I ordered and picked dinner for 2 at Lighthouse Bistro. I owner was so nice when I walked in to pick it up. It wasn't quite ready and the owner offered me a glass of wine while I waited and the chef came out to let me know he was preparing my dinner and that it wouldn't be long. My order was packed up along with and I was on my way. The calamari with french fries was delicious and both orders of linguine with clams was excellent! We couldn't get enough of the linguine sauce! Felt upscale but the prices were very reasonable. Service: Excellent. Our initial waitress was helpful as we decided what to order. When she got busy elsewhere, another gentleman stepped in and made sure we were taken care of. We never felt ignored. Food: You wouldn't necessarily think pomegranate and chicken would go together, but you'd be wrong. It was delicious. The veggies were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. Personally, I found the rice a bit on the bland side, but I mixed it with some left over sauce and slapped some pepper on it and yum yum yum. My fiancée thought the rice was perfect as is though. We came for the Nepalese food, specifically, and this had all three dishes currently on the menu. All were fresh, nicely prepared, well-spiced, and authentic. We were familiar with Sunil, when he was the manager at another popular local restaurant, and were happy to hear that he has started this new venture. In addition to everything else he doing, he is also preparing the Nepalese food. The location, ambiance, drink selection, vibe, and prices are all SUPER. First off, when you see this place, it's a very simple store front restaurant, a little difficult to find. The atmosphere is akin to having a cozy meal in your grandmothers kitchen. So please do not be put off as a first impression! The owner and staff are very nice, and gracious. What makes this place a 5 star to me is the food! Absolutely amazing!! My wife enjoyed the sand-dabs, and I enjoyed the seafood pasta. The portions were the perfect size, and the flavors just work together perfectly! The chef knows his craft! My seafood pasta was loaded with calamari, shrimp, clams, mussels, salmon, and the red sauce was not overpowering, but complemented the rest of ingredients, the pasta was done to perfection. The sand-dabs were accompanied by squash, zucchini, and carrots. The veggies were not overcooked, but nicely crisp. The Sand-dabs were covered with a nice capper sauce. At first it looked nice and had cheap drinks(for California) but entering the bathroom there was a huge, black as tar and smelling like death, log in the women's toilet just left there. In the men's there was no toilet paper so I went back to my table disgusted and defeated. I returned on my third night and had the caprese sandwich. it was also delicious. the food is priced nicely and the staff is kind and attentive. I was in town with my girlfriend and saw this place on IG. What caught my attention was the pricing which was pretty low in comparison to restaurants in the area. We were the only people in there when we arrived and were promptly greeted by the chef. He was the only person working but took our orders and cooked our food which was awesome. I had the cioppino which has a generous amount of seafood especially considering the $25 price tag. My girlfriend had the chicken piccata which was flavorful. We spoke with the chef who was very attentive checking in on us making us feel like family. He seemed to really enjoy his job and as a fellow chef that can mean all the difference in the execution your dish. I really enjoyed this place and definitely recommend giving it a shot. Welcome to Lighthouse Bistro, a new, family-owned restaurant in Monterey. This is a small, unassuming, charming "storefront" eatery tucked away on a busy street. It oozes a simple elegance with no sense of ostentatiousness. I brought my 18-year-old, "soon-to-attend an expensive school in Palo Alto" son for a 4-day, father & son road trip to Monterey and needed a reasonable yet tasty place to dine for our last night together. This was the perfect place. The meals were delicious -- and hot, I hate when food is served cold --and the portions were good enough for an 18-year-old boy's prodigious appetite. We asked for bread and olive oil. They served a delicious garlic bread with high-quality, silky smooth olive oil, instead of some cheap, throat-burning stuff. And to top it all off, the price was very, very fair. The only suggestion is a bit more generosity with shrimp and clams in the Cioppino. Overall, I highly recommend the Lighthouse Bistro and will be returning when visiting my son at that "expensive school in Palo Alto" this fall. read more
