TRULY TRULY I RECOMED THIS BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT! I want to start by commending the AMAZING customer interaction. THE FULL STAFF was attentive, gracious, interactive and supportive. The menu is FABULOUS! A SOMETHING something from different countries. We tried the Peruvian Paella, the Greek Chicken Shawarma, Ukrainian homemade Beef Stroganoff, Calamari Steak, All American Burger, Italian Garlic Cheese Bread and every item we tried was on point. Every bite simply DELICIOUS! The food portions are wonderful, the food was fresh, beautiful presentation, therefore I think is important to point out the the prices for the food are super fair (our bill for 5 adults was $152.00 plus a $30.00 tip) We eat out at least 4 times a week and we travel often, therefore it is easy for me to compare food cost from different restaurants/locations. International Cuisine in Pacific Grove certainly lives up to its name, with a huge menu of cuisine inspired by Greece, Lebanon, Italy, Peru, Spain, Ukraine, and of course US and UK. I didn't see much in terms of Asian dishes, but that's OK since we were looking for a meat-centric dinner centered around Kabobs and saffron rice. First off, clam chowder is a quintessential dish when visiting Monterrey and the surrounding areas. Very smooth, creamy, and with a slight spicy kick. I had to ding them a star for having some leftover grit, but at least its a sign they're using fresh clams, LOL. Spanish Sangria was a refreshing dish - more sweet but otherwise very refreshing. The two saffron rice plates included Rosemary Chicken Kabobs and Garlic Parmesan Salmon. The chicken was moist and well-seasoned, and the salmon was decent with more tomatoey flavors than garlic. Surprisingly, our son did not seem to enjoy either dish. The kid's cheese pizza however, was outstanding. Crispy, puffy crust and generous gobs of white and yellow cheese. Our son ate mainly the toppings, and we were thankful there was so much of it relative to the crust. I opted for the Rosemary chicken kebab as it came with a Greek salad. Everything was cooked well and tasted Ok but it paled in comparison to the Yafa in Carmel. My friends treated me to a belated birthday dinner at this lovely restaurant. The place was spacious, with colorful decor, and wood accents. There was a cozy feel to the spot. The menu was extensive, with mostly Greek dishes, along with influences from other cuisines. I ordered the Garlic Parmesan Salmon in caper sauce, with sides of saffron rice and veggies. The Salmon was cooked to perfection, and was wonderfully tender. The sauce was a bit salty for me, and could have used more garlic. There also wasn't enough cheese. Saffron rice was fluffy and well seasoned. Veggies included zucchini, carrots, and broccoli, which were soft and fresh. Service was not the best when we were first waiting for a seat, but got better after we were seated. Prices were reasonable. There was a time when this place was pretty good but by now their gyros is greasy and overloaded with spices; their falafel is stale and dry, and their dolmas will keep you belching and burping for hours - not to mention the dolmas taste like the canned variety from any grocery store, and not the good kind. I guess they can fascinate someone who has never left their village, county, or state, but if you've travelled a bit and eaten real Mediterranean cuisine, you'll avoid this place like rat poison. We have been passing by this restaurant for years and finally decided to try it. It is upscale casual dining. The ambiance is very nice and it was quiet on our visit. The menu posted outside is more extensive than what is shown on Yelp and what you receive when seated. We are unsure if you can order off of the extended menu. However, you may be able to as bottomless mimosas are listed outside and we were able to order that for $20. Couldn't get our moneys worth on that, but tried--hicup! ;) We got the chicken fettuccine alfredo and beef stroganoff with mashed potatoes (not served with the standard pasta). Both were excellent. The stroganoff had 4 pieces of beef that were like mom's pot roast and were super tender so that you could eat them with the mashed potato spoon. The stroganoff portion may be small for big eaters, but the Alfredo portion was good. There is a Yelp check in deal for a free garlic bread that is like a pizza. It was very good, don't miss out. Our server told us that they have been there for 27 years. Business was slow on our visit. They are a little expensive but comparable and/or a little cheaper for the touristy area. We have been enjoying the International on Lighthouse for many years. We love the hospitality, the extensive menu choices, the reasonable prices and the people that work there. Wa'el is frequently waiting on tables and overseeing service. He is delightful. Faris (we believe) is the owner and chef. Faris makes what I believe to be the best, most authentic hummus I've enjoyed since my childhood in Amman, Jordan. Last time we were there I had the chicken shawarma plate and it was delicious. In PG restaurants are pretty small and it is a challenge to find space for groups bigger than 4. International has a large dining room and tables that can be arranged to handle pretty much any sized group. It also has a good children's menu. Give it a try. Their service was amazing and it was hard to decide what to order because they had so many options. I feel like we all got to try cuisine from all over the world. I personally got a cup of clam chowder which was recommended by another customer there that was waiting and the falafel salad which was huge. I also got the blue hawaiian cocktail. We arrived right as they opened, so it was a bit chilly inside, but nothing too bad. The server was super friendly and seemed genuinely happy it was our first time there. I loved the mussels, my partner did not (never was a fan). But he did love the fish that was mixed in it. It is a heavy dish so I couldn't eat much in one seating. I'll never go back there. If you do, I'd highly recommend inspecting your bill very closely. Like, VERY CLOSELY. I didn't plan to write this review, but after reading other people's reviews right now, I see that this scam is a pretty common occurrence. Food was decent. Problem is, we were scammed by our waiter. So....when our waiter brought the bill he was "super rushed" so asked if we wanted to see the bill and my hubs just handed him our card to pay. When the server brought the receipt back for signature, the itemized bill was not included so we could not see that a gratuity was added, and the server did not tell us that it had been added, so my husband added a tip on top of the already applied gratuity. On our walk home, I asked him how much the the final bill was and he said $300. I did the mental math in my head because I paid attention to what we ordered, and I was certain that our bill should have been roughly $200. He said his card was charged $240 and he tipped $60 on top of that. I realized we'd been taken advantage of, so I walked back to get the extra $60 removed. The waiter would not look me in the eye and said that he told my husband about the gratuity. That was a lie - he never said a word about it, I was right there the entire time. Then the server told me he remembers my husband telling him it was the best service we'd ever had. Nope, he didn't say that. Again, I was right next to him the whole time, no such conversation was had. Bottom line, that server knowingly hid the $40 gratuity he added and counted on us being naive and tipping on top of it. Admittedly, yes, we should have askee to see tthe bill and inspected it closely. But that doesn't excuse the waiter stealing from customers, and he doubled down on the lies when I confronted him. Thankfully, the owner agreed that it was not right and removed the additional $60 tip. read more

My wife and I love the food here but the past two visits while sitting inside we have noticed that the locals tend to be very rowdy leading to an uncomfortable dinner. We arrived before 7pm ready to break our fast. Opted for the hummus and pita bread for an appetizer. My wife ordered the hot tea, I opted for iced tea. For our main course we ordered the chicken kabob and Monterey chicken. All was going well, food was delicious until a couple sat down next to us. Immediately upon their arrival I could tell these folks were hammered drunk. They sat down, the male was loud and slurring his speech, he tried ordering a bottle of wine but couldn't even pronounce it right. The waiter had to ask 3 times. That should have been a red flag for them. The guy continued to be extremely loud and cursing as well as just not making any sense. His wife was also very drunk as her eyes were dazed and also not making sense. The waiter brought them their wine and they drank the entire bottle before things got worse. The male got up and almost fell over while trying to dance with his wife, no music was playing. She thankfully made him sit down. I get they are having a good time but you can do it without spoiling everyone's night. The fact that the restaurant didn't notice this behavior is astonishing. I couldn't bare the behavior anymore and got up to get out bill. I told our waiter that the couple are completely wasted, he did not understand what I was saying. I went to the owner and told him the same. He said sorry but we must treat our regulars.... I'm sorry what? What if they get into a car and kill someone! I am forever fascinated by restaurants that have a lovely facade but choose to treat people poorly simply because they are tourists or Yelpers. It breaks my heart because I'm a wonderful, caring person and a great tipper who doesn't deserve bad treatment. My cousin and I spent the day at Scheid Winery's Harvest Party and were super happy, ready for a nice meal. Spending the night for the first time in Pacific Grove, we walked into their cute downtown area looking for a nice place to have dinner. The location being good and the patio inviting, we decided on International. We were seated outside by a tall, lovely, dark-haired woman that was so striking that I thought she was a model and asked her if she was. I've been in the entertainment industry for decades and love to tell people how much they're appreciated. Not sure if she was upset by the compliment or what happened, but it wasn't good. We sat for over fifteen minutes without a server approaching us, even for water. When we were finally asked to order dinner, it never came. Two tables of locals were seated around us, pampered and pandered to, waited on immediately, served their salad, soup, entree, and dessert, and left satisfied while we sat there waiting. Mind you, I blew bubbles for the children at the tables and taught a child of what appeared to be an owner how to do a round-off while waiting for them to bring out dinner. And yet they still ignored us. Finally, one of the six different people that repeatedly passed by our table asked if we wanted anything else and didn't seem surprised when we said we wanted our dinner order that never came. They said something must be wrong with the printer even though the other tables had no problems. They offered to give us our order for free and I said I didn't want it, but they insisted. I put the food into a to-go container to give to the homeless. No amount of free food can compensate for bad behavior. I'm always kind and expect nothing but others to be the same to me. International was extremely disappointing because of their Tourist Bias. They waited on all of the locals like they were family and treated us as if we had the plague. If you're local, please encourage them to stop this treatment of tourists. We're the lifeblood of Monterey and not all of us are jerks. And management, you can do better.
