Dear Starbucks, After many years and many fond coffee memories I'm afraid I have to break up with you, for I have fallen for another by the name of Lighthouse coffee. Lighthouse coffee is a local coffee shop that actually roasts their own beans so they are much fresher. Plus the customer service is excellent. For example, one evening my husband and I showed up there after they had closed. They were having a private party and despite being closed they let us in anyway and served us with a smile on their faces. Plus they gave my children fresh baked cookies! The owner Todd was extremely generous and did not mind that we were crashing his party. I have ordered their Caramillo both hot and cold and found it to be delicious. In conclusion Starbucks, it's not you, it's me. I am looking for a local, unique, and friendly place to take my coffee business and I believe that Lighthouse coffee is "the one." read more

People often say that there aren't any good local coffee houses in Sparks... Only chains and a few drive up coffee huts. Well they are dead wrong! They do have a drive through but it doesn't do this place justice. From the outside the place is nondescript, with just a couple of banners for signage. it's located in a generic strip mall. But, when you walk in you will see that looks can be deceiving. I was there about 7:30 am on a Wednesday and it was bustling, but not stressed and busy looking like some coffee places in the morning. There were people bellied up to the bar, hanging out, visiting, drinking coffee and looked like they had been there for hours and would be there for hours. There were more people chatting on the burlap coffee sack upholstered chairs sitting around tables that once were large industrial spools. It was very comfortable and laid back. The owner was singing out loud while he worked and visited with customers. The two young ladies at the counter were cheerful, friendly and helpful. The specials are written on sort of their version of a reader board, it's butcher paper on a roll that can be torn off for the next message. I had just come from the gym and hadn't eaten breakfast yet so I ordered an iced passion fruit tea which was wonderful and the house made Canadian bacon quiche. I'm a sucker for good quiche so I was excited. This one was light and fluffy, just the right amount of cheese and flavor, the shredded potatoes in it were a nice touch. It was warmed up for me perfectly. The owner told me his wife makes all the quiches herself with organic ingredients and potato crusts. No flour. It was a delicious version and I'm now craving it again as I write. When I was done he came to my table to make sure I was happy with everything. Um, yeah. I will definitely be back. As far as coffee goes, it looks impressive but so far I have ordered the chai tea latte and the passion tea the times I've been there so I can't speak for the coffee yet. FYI. A great local coffee shop! I'm normally one to add flavoring to my coffee at Dunkin and Starbucks but the coffee here is so good it doesn't need it! It's location on Vista and Los Altos makes it an easy stop for me on my way to work, and they even have a drive through. If you want to see the fresh baked goods that day you can go inside and they'll get you served quickly as well. Super friendly staff is just another reason to come back. read more

Met a friend here for coffee and breakfast. I really like the atmosphere. It is cozy with church benches and definitely does not have a chain coffee house feel. I had a vanilla latte which was tasty. What a great spot. It is nice to see a warm and friendly coffee house in suburban Sparks. The décor is warm and inviting. The couches are cozy and the service is friendly. We were warmly greeted and thanked for our business which is a nice touch. We ordered the Caramilla and split a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was warm and fresh and HUGE! So yummy! This place is fan-freakin-tastic! I love the fact that we finally have a great 'mom and pop' type coffee shop in the area. I refuse to pay so much for Starbucks when I can support a locally owned business that really goes out of their way to make sure you're satisfied. I'm a fan of their Vanilla lattes and their bagels with cream cheese. It's heave in my mouth every morning! The owners (husband and wife) are awesome and 9/10 times have been in the store talking to their customers and never failing to wish me a good day. The atmosphere is very cozy, clean and hip. They also have a separate room for those that want to do their studying in private, or maybe host a meeting. Don't like getting out of your car? Well, don't rush off to Starbucks just yet! They have a drive-thru! Unlike most places, their drive-thru and walk-in customers get served fast, efficiently and EQUALLY. They offer free WiFi and have excellent store hours that, I'm sure, would accommodate anyone's time schedule. I LOVE this place and will be recommending it to everyone I know. read more

I stopped by for a quick cup of coffee and pastry this morning and I'm very please with my experience. The white chocolate mocha I ordered was quickly and efficiently made and tasted sooo yummy, no burnt taste like Starbucks. And while choosing a pastry the cashier was kind enough to tell me what ingredients were in them and did not rush me in any way. I love that the staff was so knowledgeable and the end result was so yummy and a great way to start my day. I will definitely make this part of my weekly routine! read more

The staff here is always friendly (even when there were three people in my car all wanting to pay for their orders with separate debit cards). They know their customer service! I will sing the praises of their coffee all day long. I've never had anything that tasted bitter or overly sweet; just utter perfection at way more reasonable prices than most coffee shops. Hard to give less stars here - it's 5 for friendliness and overall cool place but 3 for service/food So I guess a 4 Bagels here seem to be confusing . We went again and went through the drive through. Took about 4 or so minutes to have anyone greet- not a big deal but we were about to just drive up curious if anyone was on the other end. When we got a person we asked the bagels they had and she mentioned regular cheddar and jalapeño cheddar so right away we said perfect 1 of each She then said to wait because they might not have cheddar. So again they said they had something but then didn't so we were already craving that cheddar. She checked in the "back" and came back and said she did have them. When we got the bagels they were already pretty cold. Like if they were microwaved or something so it was a very surface level warm and when we got into them they were pretty cold. We then realized we couldn't tell the different between the jalapeño as regular cheddar. It was just one tiny spec of greenish and a slight smell of pepper that helped us decide. There was no outward show of cheddar which is common with other places and no strong taste of cheddar with either. Maybe they infuse the flavor with the dough with can account for no visible cheese or pepper but then there was no flavor either. Nice hearty servings of crepe cheese to go though which is nice! Let me first start off by saying, this isn't Starbucks, and that's a good thing. I've read some review that said they missed the bitter coffee taste of Starbucks in the drinks form Lighthouse. Please let me say, bitter, is not how freshly roasted coffee is supposed to taste. Proper espresso is sweet and complicated. Lighthouse makes a great cup of coffee, if you're going to compare it to anything, please compare it to the Hub or Bibo. But Starbucks this is not, and I'm thankful. Lighthouse has a great atmosphere with a great view. They offer nearly every drink you could think of including multiple ways to enjoy brewed coffee: pour over, siphon, etc. With the new roaster in the shop, expect it to get even better. read more

When I noticed that Lighthouse Coffee closed it's doors at the location on Pyramid Highway, I almost cried. I thought, "there goes another local business, driven out by Starbucks." But when I found it open again at the Jolt and Java site, I cheered. They have amazing drinks, the people are always friendly, and the cafe is a wonderful place to relax. My daughter has celiac and loves the fact she can eat their cookies. You won't be disappointed if you try them. read more

Not only do I like the coffee, and I'm kind of a coffee snob and searcher of good local companies, I'm at the owner and his helper. Not totally sure if it's his adult son or not, but when I happened to be in the Sparks location and they came in they were super friendly, kind, and I could tell they have really good hearts. The gentleman with him has down syndrome and it made my day to know that we are being inclusive and supportive of all. I'm a school psychologist so I look for these kind of things in people. Definitely found it at lighthouse! Also I love that they have hired employees and allow them to be themselves. A couple of them have tattoos, piercings, and colored hair. That wouldn't fly at Starbucks ;) so as a school psychologist who has multicolored purple, red, and blue hair, tattoos all over, and much less piercings than I used to have..... I also look out for inclusivity that way. They check off all the cool stuff! read more

Lighthouse is one of my favorite coffee places! When you walk in you automatically feel welcomed and apart of the Lighthouse family. The owners are usually there with their son and it is the most amazing thing to be a witness too. They are so loving and caring to not only their family but to their customers too. Everytime I come in they always know how to put a smile on my face. Now, their coffee is phenomenal! My favorite drink is a caramilla, whether that be hot or blended it is my favorite. Everytime I come in or go through the drive thru I always end up getting a caramilla(hot or blended) with a toasted asiago bagel with cream cheese and they never disappoint. I've been going here since it first opened on Pyramid, many years ago. They still blow me away with their caramilla. It's their so-much-better version of a caramel Frappuccino. It's so velvety and rich, and never has that gross separation of the ice and coffee that other blended drinks do when they melt. Friendly staff serving delicious, affordable, light breakfast fare in a quaint coffeehouse with a beautiful view of the Sierras! I ordered a Mocha which was delicious, the perfect combo of rich and creamy with just the right amount of sweetness. My Mom, husband and sister enjoyed their Vanilla chai, tropical ice tea and vanilla latte respectively. Lighthouse had a great selection of scones and quiches. I love love love this coffee place! Thank lighthouse coffee for that delicious caramilla drink. My new favorite. I usually go to the human bean but not anymore. This local business right here is the one to support. The staff is always so friendly to me, drinks are usually fast, and reasonably priced. I love that they have the loyalty program so make sure you ask for a stamp card if you like to go here often. Everything I have tried so far is absolutely delicious. Green tea matcha shake is one to try as well. I don't think you will be disapointed. I have not tried any hot drinks but I know one thing they definitely got my business. read more

Been coming here for a couple of years now. I can't believe I have not done a review of this place. The staff and owners are wonderful and always friendly and helpful, especially when I want to try a different drink. I usually order a Caramilla, cappuccino, or a Latte but today I tried something new. I tried their smoothie. It was very good and fruity. I also had a piece of quiche. Their quiche is outstanding no matter what you pick, and I have tried all they offer! Good thing they have drive thru or else I would be getting seconds. Yes, they are that good! I think it's Melanie's (Todd's wife) recipe. The atmosphere and vibe of the shop is friendly and relaxing!! This place is so welcoming and has terrific coffee! I had no idea this place even existed because it's definitely off the beaten path, but what a gem! The service was so friendly, they definitely ooze positive vibes here. I thought it was cool that they had big jars of cold brew available for purchase and refills.
