All three times we stayed in the "sunset suites" rooms. Rooms 201, 202, and 203 are looking straight at the beach. The indoor pool is airy. There is always hot coffee available. The breakfast room is large, well-maintained, clean, and free. Our suite has two full bathrooms. The bed is very comfortable. We love the balcony. The hotel has its own private path the incredible beach across the street. If I was forced to complain about something, it would be that the coffee creamer comes in those little plastic hard-to-open containers, rather than in a large pitcher. That is my only tiny complaint. Love this place.

With that amount of payment immediately, I presumed that I would be treated well, not have to call the front desk twice, who routed me to the reservation coordinator, and then another two emails to ask for details. The details, once provided, were sparse, and upon asking if I could at least book more rooms if they were available, never received a response, even though I could see that the email had been delivered and read. This was a very disappointing interaction, and in particular when it was for setting up a happy weekend. I have taken my cash to another Inn, where I have had warm customer service, time updates, details on logistics, and a helpfulness which has been stress-reducing. They have even making the effort to call other businesses on my behalf, so to say that their customer service is excellent, is an understatement.

Everything is small. The beds, the rooms, the stove, the shower, the toilet. All smaller than you are used to. Definitely not ADA accessible. - This place is old. It smells like your Great Aunt's house and you'll be checking the cupboards for Ribbon Candy. - The place is clean. Spotless. Linens were fresh and not a speck of dust or dirt anywhere. Dishes, cups, everything. Super clean. - It's not modern. At all. You'll use a real key. You'll get a handwritten receipt for your stay. The WiFi is a strange little router plugged in to a random ceiling plug. The stove is small and has coil burners. - It has great beach access. Out your back door and a few steps away. Okay, several steps but still close. - Close to the old town. You're about a 5 minute drive to the old downtown and far off the highway so there is no noise. - It's expensive. A tad uncomfortable with the price but you're paying for the beach access and view. There is a chain hotel across the street that is significantly cheaper but if you want the access, get your credit card out. Hotels / motels are limited in this town and this was the best option we saw. We will stay here again. Once you get over the "weird" of the room set up (it takes about an hour) you will really like the place.

This review is difficult for me to write because, honestly, I wanted to love this place…read more The location is beautiful. The proximity to the beach is outstanding, the setting is relaxing, and the property has tremendous potential to provide a wonderful coastal experience. That is part of what makes this experience so disappointing. I did not want to write this review out of anger or spite. In fact, my initial goal was simply to alert management to a serious issue so it could be addressed before another guest experienced the same thing. During my stay, I discovered multiple bed bugs on the bedding. I photographed the insects, photographed where they were found, and documented the resulting bites. The issue was significant enough that we felt unsafe remaining in the room. What happened next was even more disappointing than the discovery itself. We immediately attempted to contact the hotel for assistance. We called the regular hotel phone number, called the emergency contact number posted on the office door, and sent multiple emails. Despite repeated attempts, we received no response. With no assistance available, we were forced to find alternative accommodations late at night, around 10:00 PM, incurring additional expenses, stress, disruption to our travel plans, and concern about possible exposure to our belongings. The following morning, because all of our attempts to contact management had gone unanswered, we returned to the property in person to speak with management directly. I was not looking for a confrontation. I was looking for compassion, accountability, and reassurance that the matter would be taken seriously. Instead, I left feeling dismissed, disrespected, and treated as though my concerns were an inconvenience rather than a legitimate health and safety issue. I will also note that management declined to accept responsibility for the condition of the room. While I cannot speak to when the issue originated or whether management was previously aware of it, the number of insects I discovered and documented left me deeply concerned about the extent of the problem. To management's credit, a refund was eventually issued. However, a refund does not erase the experience, the inconvenience of having to relocate late at night, the bites, the anxiety of potentially bringing bed bugs home, or the feeling that our concerns were not genuinely heard. What troubles me most is that I sincerely expressed my hope that the issue was isolated and encouraged management to thoroughly investigate it for the protection of future guests. My purpose then, and now, is not retaliation. It is concern that another family may unknowingly find themselves in the same position. I hope the hotel conducts a thorough inspection and remediation of any affected rooms. Every guest deserves a clean, safe place to sleep and a management team that responds promptly and compassionately when serious concerns arise.

It's very well maintained and landscaped with lots of flower pots and greenery. Check in was quick and easy, and the desk clerk friendly. I got the "Tiny Tim" room which is well suited for the solo traveler; smaller than the other rooms on site, and is also a little cheaper. It was impeccably clean and featured standard amenities like a coffee maker, microwave, and mini fridge. It also had a USB charging port on the bedside table, which I always appreciate. Both bed and bath linens were fresh and clean, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The room is adorned with beautiful coastal photographs taken by the motel owners, who are apparently professional photographers. I'm fine with saving a little money and foregoing the expensive oceanfront or downtown motels. Bandon is so small that it's easy to get around. I didn't find the traffic from 101 to be too loud at all. There's also a little convenience store next door where you can get some snacks or drinks if needed. I would 100% stay here again.

Bandon is a small town, it is not a glitzy resort type town, rich in Oregon history, hard working folks, it definitely has its place. Sunset Lodging & Hotel exemplifies all of that, the rooms are perfectly adequate, cozy, yes dated, our room (236) provided UNPARALLELED views of the majestic oceanfront views. Access to the beach are yards away. Old Town a brief 5 minute drive, access to highway 101 even less. Parking was perfect at the property. You don't go to Bandon to sit in a hotel room, it's where you sleep and shower, the rest of your time is spent exploring your surroundings. The beds are perfectly comfortable, water pressure in the showers was exceptional, cable tv stations were great. Heater worked wonderfully, no, there was no AC other than the breezes coming through the sliding glass door, I'll take that every single day This is an old school type accommodation, the staff from front desk to housekeeping were wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable. You can't really ask for more, a simple breakfast served from 7:30am to 10:00am, nothing elaborate, no need for it to be with some fantastic eateries a mile away. An indoor pool/spa right off the lobby, lots of area literature and attractions available, super pet friendly. You must take note that moisture is in the air, the weather changes on a dime, from spectacular bright sunny skies to billowing doom and gloom clouds and rain, that's the Oregon coast, no getting away from it. I was really looking forward to writing this review, I would and will stay here again, these are the types of properties that best capture and convey the presence of Bandon.... HOSTEL - Sea Star - U (unaffiliated) (not part of Hostelling Intl.)…read more I'm a frequent hosteler, and The Sea Star Hostel was one of my Oregon coastal favorites. My favorite room had a loft spot to sleep, and was private with a great view of the harbor. Kitchen and lounge areas were clean and I met some nice hostelers too. If you enjoy hosteling, this is a good one to visit. They also rent full guesthouse rooms, separately, with views, but I have only stayed at the hostel. Hosteling is very different from hotelling, and it is NOT for everyone, so I would rate this 3 or 4 stars for a hostel, but if you compare it to a regular hotel, i have no idea. Hostels are not camping, not bed and breakfasts, but nor are they hotels or motels, so I have no idea really how to rate them, except hostel to hostel. Hosteling is affordable, social and educational. Someday I'd love to own a hostel.
