I couldn't have asked for a better lunch. After moving to sfl after living in San Francisco for 20 years, I have found few restaurants meeting even the quality of fewer starred restaurants in SF. But this was a diner and it had Beach scene exterior and there was a kite store alongside so I decided to give it a try. The waitress showed up quickly and let me know the brisket I ordered was smoked on site. I had my eye on fried okra and she suggested that the steamed mixed greens were going fast. I expected a bacon crumble or two in the greens, but they were strewn with bacon. The okra was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. And no slime at all. The card-sized cornbread was sweet, like it is supposed to be, and while flatter than I expected, it turned out to be just the right size. At first glance I thought the portion of brisket was small, then I discovered there were slices and slices of it buried beneath. It was served au jus and the gravy was delicious, complementing the brisket perfectly. Between the meal and dessert, the waitress listened patiently to my stories, who turned out to be a philosophy major -- no really -- timed serving my homemade coconut cream pie after I digested a bit. The meringue had the consistency of whipped cream. The slice was twice as high and twice as wide as I expected. I haven't had such a creamy, puddings like coconut cream pie since my mom made them. After giving me a few tidbits of philosophy, she gave me a tip: if you see a carrot cake in the bakery showcase, get it. She says they don't stay along. Since she steered me right on everything else, I damn well will get the carrot cake. Oh, the Arnold Palmers with fresh brewed tea and squeezed lemonade are made on site, too. YUMMY! read more

The service and the food was awful!!! Don't waste your time or money!! My kids and I stood there in pretty tight quarters to begin with, waiting for a table when clearly there were a few in plain sight available while the young, unfriendly and inexperienced hostesses sat there chatting it up... the owner or whoever the woman was who looked like she was running the place was barking orders all around us. She was less than friendly when she tried overcharging me for a side of fruit. Way to win customers over lady!! Never again!! And, the food came out... Such incredibly tiny portions. Wow what a refreshing feeling it was going to a diner, that has really good FRESH food, unlike most places I've been too. Finally had a chance to stop for breakfast and it was delightful. The interior is very nicely done diner style and very clean. The staff is very friendly and attentive. I had the root vegetable hash, my boyfriend had eggs Benedict and biscuits and gravy. Everything was delicious, even the coffee is great. I had breakfast here several months ago and wasn't impressed, but it was mostly because of the server and the seating. Last night we had dinner there and it was most enjoyable. The menu has the usual comfort food but also has some unusual and tasty appetizers, sides, and entrees. We shared cheesy grits fritters appetizer with jalapeno dipping sauce. My wife had bacon wrapped fried hot dog with broccoli-brussel (sp) sprouts slaw. I had teriyaki chicken entrée. Both were very good. We were tempted but passed on the unusual desserts. Unfortunately a place is only as good as its employees. I went on a busy Sunday and waited about 20 minutes for a table. No big deal, the reviews I read made me think it would be worth it. With a party of 5 we were only able to be seated when tables were pushed together. For some reason the hostess made a comment to another employee about getting in trouble if they put a chair at the end of the table. Anyway after we were seated the waiter that served us and was very rude. Like he didn't want to be there (not my fault, quit your job if you don't like it ) When asked the ingredients on something he flat out wouldn't tell. Causing someone in my party to order something they ended up not liking. When asked for additional condiments he said I'll check. Never looked and never came back or mentioned it. The food was okay, the prices were fair. It's not good enough to justify being treated poorly by employees. read more

I love this diner. My absolute favorite! There food is delicious. You have to try the Low Country Benedict, it has crabcakes in it! So good!. Also there famous country fried steak with the mac and cheese delicious! And you gotta have there appetizers especially the mozzerela sticks! read more

Worst breakfast ever. This place is a complete rip off. It used to be one of the best places around, 10 years ago. They closed years back for perhaps a couple years, and ever since it reopened (new ownership?) it has been terrible. We paid $26 for a single waffle, an omelet with potatoes, and 2 eggs. That's about $16 anywhere else. The potatoes were absolutely disgusting and completely dry. The waffle was halfway decent, the omelette was basically just egg, and the sausage was absolutely disgusting. If you are looking for a good breakfast nearby, try Cypress café in Tequesta, or Center Street Nook. Both are absolutely delicious, and both are a great value. read more

Best hidden breakfast spot in northern palm beach county. Bacon is the best anywhere, thick Smokey perfection. Coffee is always fresh and pancakes are fluffy big (barely can finish 1). Breakfast was ok. We went Easter Sunday and it was not busy at all. Our server (young girl with short dark straight hair) was not very good. She only visited our table a couple of times after getting obviously annoyed with us ( she rolled her eyes and walked away a few times) forgot some of the stuff we ordered and then when we questioned her about it she got huffy. Brought us out bacon that was burnt to a crisp and non edible. My mom ordered challah bread and she came back to tell us they were out, but offered no other options for her. I ordered multigrain bread with my breakfast and she brought out white..I would have told her that it was wrong, but she never came back to ask. We had to ask for refills on drinks and after asking her twice for a refill of coffee she never came back and I never got my coffee. The table next to us as well as our table had to get up and get our own silverware. She dropped off our check and never asked us if we wanted anything else, as a matter of fact she never said anything to us at all. As we were walking out she was standing at the servers station complaining about how tired she was while tables around us sat with empty drinks. Service was just bad. read more

I saw the bad reviews but gave it a try anyway. First let me star by saying I am a chef that loves to eat out. First this place is hard to find do to the lousy location (next to coastal gas) & small sign on factory looking building. As I walked through the front door I noticed a stale smell & the place was empty except for the staff .It was a little before lunch time ,no customers & ringing phone. Next thing I noticed as we were seated is that the desert display case had one remaining slice each of 4 different cakes/pies.Odd to have a empty case. Things only got worse ..I placed our order for a ham omelet with home fries and rye toast. All the staff was pleasant by unprofessional. My waiter was dressed like a bus boy and did not know the menu. Now as I waited for my food I decided to take a look at the men's room . It was clear except for the mosquitoes flying around the urinal. I then returned to my seat only to find my food. If you can call it that the omelet & the potatoes were shining with dripping oil. The eggs were flat & lifeless. I guess I was feeling brave because I then tasted it.....All that I could taste was the oil. This has been one of my top 3 worst dinning experiences. Love this place. Service is professional and friendly without being a hovering server. I had the chicken pot pie. Loaded with flavor, the top crust is light and crunchy. My husband ordered the meatloaf dinner, the potatoes were the real deal and he made the meatloaf disappear. We shared a slice of pecan pie. A sweet ending to a homey meal. read more

My husband, daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinners here. I was really skeptical given the first few reviews. We live close by and saw the business increasingly pick up. Finally we gave it a try and now I wish we had gone sooner. We had an appetizer of fried bread and butter pickles that were pretty good. Made with corn meal which made me very happy. Not just die grease soaked batter. My daughters kids meal of a grilled cheese and fries was big enough to feed 3 kids. The bread was prefect for the sandwich and it had the tastiest thick cut bacon on it. My husband had the seafood gumbo. A huge bowl with lots of crawfish and shrimp and came with white rice and 4 large sweet rolls. He just loved it. I had the southern dip. With smoked brisket. You can taste the smoke in every bite it's just delicious. Not over seasoned so the meat stands out, but again I have to rave about the bread, a white crusty garlic breast roll. It was the perfect bread to hold up to a dip. They pair them perfectly. My favorite part has to be hands down their TBC Chancellor on draft. This is my favorite and now I can have one at the diner instead of the stuffy TBC. I will definetly go back. Soon! read more

Probably frequent this breakfast establishment more than any due to its convenience from my home. If you can sit at the bar and take in the local flare and cast of characters including Kevin Kojak or at least that's a resemblance if you watched the TV show in the seventies. Many of the dishes like corn beef hash are whole made. They have a good breakfast special during the week and I also like the sausage and Lighthouse Breakfast sandwich I believe resembling a Montecristo with French toast egg and sausage. They have good specials as well and although they can be a little more expensive sometimes interesting as well. My advice is to get to know Kevin and have him pour you a drink mixed with one of his famous concoctions he has underneath the bar. It may cure your hangover if you have one from the night before and possibly Kevin's as well. Sometimes they get slammed and service can be a bit slow but this is a place you should certainly stop by and see if you are up in the north county area. When in doubt after your breakfast on Sunday never bet against the spread on a home underdog in a cold weather stadium I have been told. Man-Mosas for everyone! read more

Went for breakfast. Wasn't the best breakfast I ever had. There are much better places. Was so looking forward to it since I hadn't been since before its renovation. The service was good. Friendly, warm and welcoming staff. The problem came with the omelette I ordered -- it should have has pico de gallo, jack cheese and avocado (can't remember the name of it.) When I received it I peeked inside to see why it seemed bland. All it had in it was a few diced tomatoes and cheese.) I asked our waitress if my order was correct, since it didn't seem right, without the avocados. She said she'd check. When she came back, she told me they were out of avocados and someone was out buying them now. It would've been nice to know that before they cooked my omelette to see if I wanted to change my order. Not impressed. The one good thing was a constant refill of my coffee. I will give it a second try for lunch or dinner, but will not be having breakfast again. read more

It was our 1st time at the LHD after hearing good thing about it. The staff was pleasant and explained the recent changes on their lunch menu. She explained how they slow roast all the meats and recently added a Reuben Sandwich. My Mom and I each ordered one and both of us were very disappointed. The sauce was heavy and made the sandwich sloppy and hard to eat. Instead of the meat being sliced thinly and stacked, it contained thick slabs that were tough and chewy. Neither one of us finished the sandwiches. The cole slaw was not traditional; it had onion, red peppers and lots of vinegar in it, not very good at all! read more

Waited over 10 minutes and finally hailed the hostess who was very apologetic. Ordered the fish tacos which looked great, but the taco shells were soggy and fell apart in your hands.
