Called for two same day 60 minute massages for a friend and myself and was able to book both. When I got there they were able to accommodate my request to change to 90 minutes. The women at the front desk were friendly and helpful. My therapist, Julia, was awesome, good technique to address my needy areas. My friend, who has some back issues, received a very customized gentle Swedish and cranio-sacral massage. She was very happy with Brooke's attentiveness and skill. Lobby/rooms were clean and serene. I recently visited Tahoe City and wanted to find a nice massage center that my mom and I could go to -- as a present for her birthday. I found Lighthouse Spa on Yelp and liked the reviews, especially one that was from a massage therapist. I got a 1.5 hour massage from Lesley, and it was wonderful. He worked deeply on areas that I haven't felt for years, and advised me on ways to keep the "adjustment" he did. My mom got a facial from Shiloh and loved it! I just finished an hour long Swedish massage at Lighthouse Spa. I booked same day and was pleasantly surprised that they were able to squeeze me in. Although it seems like an odd location (located behind the Safeway) it has a beautiful view of the lake from most of the room. She did a foot massage that amazed me, I had to ask her what part of her hands she had used because I couldn't tell how she was able to really get to those pressure points so accurately. The best massage I've had in YEARS!! I called this morning to see if they had availability as we just got in to town last night and my back is killing me from our 12 hour drive. The owner, Sheila, who is absolutely adorable and SO sweet, came in herself to accommodate me. She did such an amazing job that I booked a wrap and facial for next week. I love that they've been in business for twenty years, too!! Unfortunately, in Tahoe, you see so many small businesses come and go..even great ones. The receptionist Amy was absolutely lovely. She helped us find cool jewlery stores and was very accomodating. Even though we had to wait a bit for the massage therapists to get there because they were stuck in traffic they saw us within an hour of us calling which is very short notice. Totally worth it. Our massage therapists Cindy and Jamie were wonderful. They have very tallented hands and can find all the knots and are skilled at relaxation with therapeudic massage. This is a really nice spa and all the good reviews are well deserved. We had two 90 minute massages on a Sunday afternoon. The place is warm (literally and figuratively!) and very inviting, not to mention soothing. It was easy to set up appointments over the phone and everything was smooth when we checked in for our appointments. They started on time and mine even went a little over. The rooms are really well appointed, nicely lit, the massage tables actually heated during the winter months and the massage was really good. I highly recommend it! read more

Found this place through yelp and sooo glad I did. The place was tucked back behind Safeway upstairs, but nice secluded with a view over the lake. The receptionist was very sweet and Shannon, the cmpt was exceptionally good for my 1 1/2 hr massage. I was just traveling through for vacation away from work and wanted to splurge on myself, which I did, and happy with my results. On those rare occasions when I can get to Tahoe for some R&R, my decadent splurge is a luxurious massage at the Lighthouse Spa. I'm a physical therapist and know when a masseuse is getting to the origin of a muscle or just grazing past a bundle of them. Thankfully, the masseurs at Lighthouse are all keenly accustomed to working on athlete skier bodies and know exactly where to place their thumbs and elbows to release the tension in already sore and stiff muscles. My BF bought me a gift certificate to this spa. We came up on a ski trip and I finally got to use it. I came in Sunday morning. It was a beautiful day outside and I was looking forward to a post ski massage. My masseuse was very young and she seemed new. She barley got into my muscles; it was like being kneaded by a kitten for an hour. I also had a facial massage. It seemed like she kept running her fingers from my chin to my forehead over and over in the same motion. I felt awkward and a little uncomfortable. I also didn't know what products she used. Wow, what a find. My friends and I were up for a weekend ski trip, but on Saturday, with lift lines long, we decided to make a ladies' day out of it and signed up for a same-day massage. My massage therapist was Julie Brown. If you need a relaxing, amazing massage, ask for Julie. This business is dishonest, the waiting room is a hallway (not serene at all--especially as personnel go bustling by with sheets and towels), and the services were just *okay. Why is this place rated so well? First, my massage started 25 minutes late, which is annoying in and of itself but is borderline maddening when you're spending that time in a hallway (no waiting room) with people bustling by all the time. It was cramped and awkward. But I tried to make the most of it. Massage was ok. I got a deep-tissue, and the massage therapist was very elbow-heavy.... going for quantity (of pressure) over quality. It's not my favorite technique, but I understand that it's a common approach to deep-tissue. He was very nice and paid special attention to the areas I had highlighted, which I appreciated. My facial, following my massage, was a disaster. When I made the appointment I made a point to confirm that the 60-minute facial involved steam and extractions. I highlighted this b/c I had just had a 30-minute facial in Calistoga that did not have steam/extractions and it was very unsatisfying (why else would a person get a facial but for the steam and extractions?!). I wanted to be sure to get a full facial in Tahoe. I was assured that Lighthouse does do steam/extractions (it's friggin' standard for 60-minute facials), and so I made massage and facial appointments for my friend and me. But, when I went in for my facial--no steam/extractions. We got far enough along that I got concerned and asked the aesthetician about it. She told me they only had one steamer and it was being used in another appointment (my friend's, apparently). I told the aesthetician that I was disappointed, and she even acknowledged that I could use it on my nose. But no steam, so no extractions. I left my facial very disappointed--I had explicitly confirmed the steam and had been looking forward to having a smooth complexion for the new year. I spoke with the woman at the front desk, who called the manager (owner?), Shelia. After about a half-hour of fighting with me, Shelia finally agreed to not charge me for the woefully deficient facial. Fine--that is what I asked for and is why this review is two stars instead of one. But the dishonesty of the whole process has left a horrible taste in my mouth. First, it was never acknowledged until I asked about it that a key component to the facial would not be occurring. Then, Shelia tried to tell me that the aesthetician must have decided extractions just weren't appropriate for my skin (bullsh*t--I get facials several times a year and always get extractions, not to mention that the aesthetician acknowledged that the problem was the lack of sufficient steamers--but she shouldn't be penalized for finally being honest when called out on it). Someone who is less familiar with facials would have totally been deceived, and that's not ok. And then they tried to charge me *more for the massage to recoup the cost of the facial! Seriously? By that point I was livid--totally un-doing any good the massage had done to relieve tension. I could not believe that a small business would treat a customer so poorly. I will not be going back--I simply do not trust them. read more

I have been to the Lighthouse Spa twice now and the first experience was just ok. My second experience was good and bad. The good - I had a facial that was really nice. My skin really looked great after the service and the gal who did it was really nice. The bad - The young girl doing the massages was not very good. She talked the entire time and the best part...She actually asked me if I was the mother of my best friend who got a massage with her right before me...keep in mind, we are both mid-30's and I KNOW I do not look old, let alone that old! oh.my.god. honestly, the best massage of my life. it was so incredible. my husband also had a massage and we were both melty piles of our selves when we emerged. i had sheila (the owner) and mike had rachael and we are both toying with the idea of driving to tahoe monthly for these massages. admittedly, i don't get massages often and my muscles are TIGHT. after about 2 minutes, sheila asked if i wanted the whole hour concentrated on my back and neck. she could tell it was jacked. honestly, i've never felt like the therapist would understand what was going on with my body and adjust. the amount of work she put into my massage was incredible. i'll go back everytime i'm in tahoe. Searching for a spa for an upcoming vacation, I was between this place and Massage on the Lake. After speaking with the Lighthouse Spa, I decided to book because 1. They took Spa Finder gift cards, and 2. They had a yelp deal going on. It was going to be cheaper to go here. The woman on the phone put the yelp deal information in the notes section. So the day comes.. My massage was fine, not spectacular, but not complain worthy. But when they charged me (I paid for myself and 3 other people), they didn't apply the discount. With a waiting room full of family members, I decided to just call later rather than make an awkward situation. Today I called and the owner is issuing my "account" a credit for $44- the amount of the yelp discount. This is going to an account for a place in a city hours away from my house. So essentially, I get store credit to a city I'll never be back to. There was no way for them to issue the credit back to my gift card (I paid with both cash and gift cards). Long story, but my advice is to head to Massage on the Lake. After reading the yelp reviews of both places, my gut was telling me to go there from the beginning. read more

While on Summer vacation in North Lake Tahoe the girls booked a spa afternoon in Tahoe City. I had made arrangements prior to being there by using their online contact form. The employees got back me immediately and the customer service was superb. The spa is located in a shopping complex on the second floor overlooking the lake. Small walk up the stairs and there you will find the door. I booked myself a facial with Heather. She was extremely courteous and listened to my requests. They use Dermalogica products here which is a super plus. They even were having a sale at the time on some products and I scored a really good deal on facial cleanser. The second half of my spa afternoon consisted of getting a hot stone massage. Not my favorite way to relax, but the massage specialist listened to my requests and did a good job. My only complaint about this place is the overall ambiance. I like treatment rooms when they are dark and secluded from the outside world. The rooms here have large windows and you can hear all the outside noises including loud boats on the lake. I will give Lighthouse Spa a call next time I'm in the area for sure. Jackie was my masseuse and she did an excellent job! It has been 4 years since I've splurged on a massage and I wish I'd gone sooner. I was in such an uncomfortable state with tension and knots in my back that it was now affecting my sleep. After my hour long massage I felt so peaceful, relaxed, calm and surprisingly taller! Jackie listened to my status report of where I was hurting. The room was very comfortable as was everything else you'd expect out of a quality spa. Music, ambiance, the staff are friendly and they are quiet and calm. I can not wait to go back and as a long time T.C. local you bet I will be as soon as I can. I look forward to trying one of their facials some time in the future when I have extra money. But for now I'll be going back for a massage once a month so that with all the out door activity living in Tahoe affords doesn't return me back to a low energy hunchback. For any who complain about this place you have to remember that the basis of Tahoe City is small town. Yet because it's a vacation destination, rent is high. Space is limited so most businesses are small. Be thankful for what you have and that it is a special oppportunity to receive a massage. Go in with a peaceful state of mind and start to relax in the waiting room hallway. If you want big city largeness with massive space set aside for large populations then stay there. Come to Tahoe City to appreciate the quiet small town atmosphere and with the reminder that peacefullness is a blessing. It's the largeness of the outdoors that makes Tahoe special. read more

Brooke gave me a superlative massage! I came in exhausted and stressed from too much modern life, right after finishing a job interview. So yeah, I was a tough customer. But she listened to my specific needs and preferences and helped me relax my tense body and calm my spinning mind. One thing I really appreciate in a massage is smooth, gentle transitions between body areas. Brooke kept a soft, sweeping hand on one area while staring the next. She was friendly, but not chatty once the massage started, except to check in about pressure, which was perfect anyway. The reception was professional, efficient, and warm. I just got back from a terrific hour+ massage with Bethany, who has been doing massage for 5-6 years and has been at Lighthouse Spa for about 3. I had back and hip issues from sleeping/working in a vacation house that didn't have the comforts of home, so I was in need of someone who wasn't shy to go deep on my aching muscles. Bethany listened carefully to my problems and customized every aspect of the massage to my needs. I couldn't have asked for anything more. This place apparently requires a minimum of 500 hours of experience from their therapists, compared to 120 at other locations. They also have a male therapist who has been doing massage for almost 20 years. I saw a woman come out of the room with him and she was raving about how good her massage was. This place isn't cheap, at $90/hour, but the price is probably standard for the area and Bethany took some extra time at the end since she didn't have another client for a while. I couldn't be happier with my experience. I'm feeling good enough to try out that fantastic gym below the spa tomorrow! read more

I love a good massage but this is not a good massage this is a FANTASTIC massage. The owner Shelia is my favorite but I have yet to have a massage that has been less than spectacular. I truly cannot say enough wonderful things, every time I leave I feel incredibly restored, relaxed and calm. My favorite rooms are the front two as you can listen to the lake while having your treatment. My boyfriend bought one of the couples specials. It was the aromatherepy massage for 1 hour. When we first got there they offered us tea and/or water. The tea was yummy, but ask for regular water if you dont like cucumber in your water. We sat in the little waiting room for our appointment because we arrived early. Our therapists introduced themselves and brought us into the cute couples room where they had 2 side by side massage tables and rose petals all over the floor. They asked for our specific needs and wants them gave us some privacy to get undressed to our comfort level (which made me feel comfortable that they said that). They started to massage and my personal massage was great. She wasnt rough like I had asked and she really focused on the areas I wanted her too. My massage therapist was Laura. Once we were done we got dressed and they offered us water and gave us advice about our muscles. This place was really cute and relaxing. If I lived in the area I would definitely come back! Only downside about this place was we got lost looking for it. We're really great with directions and can find things easily but the location is in the safeway shopping center behind the safeway. There were no signs that lead us to the location so we had to call after passing the safeway several times. This is why I gave 4 stars. read more
