Okay so I tried this place and could not have been more disappointed. We ordered egg rolls, crab Rangoon, wonton soup, pepper steak and orange chicken. The egg rolls, crab Rangoon and wonton soup were awful. I didn't think it was possible to truly mess these items up but they did. They could f-up a cup of water. The entrees were okay, not great but okay. The restaurant look run down and the service was about was expected but over all not worth the trip or the money. read more

The Chinese restaurant that we normally go to for wonton and hot and sour soups was closed today. So we went to Lily's. It was the best hot and sour soup I've ever had. Filled with veggies and just enough hot to make your sinuses feel some relief! The egg roll was similar to ever other egg roll. Definitely will go back! read more

There are some aspects of Lily Chinese that I believe are 5 star worthy, while others only merit one at best. Let's start with the good: Their egg rolls are the best around. Period. Portion sizes are great. They are one of the few places that can make my favorite dish (Beef w/ oyster sauce) the way I like it. Their House Lo Mein is very good. Their lunch specials (which include a generous portion of your favorite dish, fried rice, and an egg roll) are dirt cheap and usually can provide two meals unless you're a big eater. They're also open on holidays - even Christmas - which came in very handy one year. The not so good: their fried rice is just not very good. Bland and at times almost like white rice with vegetables. My main complaint is that no matter how many times I say I want a dish to be spicy, extra spicy, super duper extra spicy, or "en fuego" spicy, they're rarely ever achieve it. Not great! There was a gel like substance in my broccoli and chicken lunch special. The fried rice used was not a properly made fried rice. More like a regular rice trying to pass. Cannot complain about the lunch special price though $5.25. I may try again just to see if they had an off day or batch. read more

The only reason Lily got two stars is the pick up order was ready on time. We had ordered from Lily in the past and the food was good. This time the food was quite a let down. The fried rice was burnt and didn't look anything like fried rice. For a chicken meal it was hard to tell. Very little chicken. New to the area so trying to find a new local Chinese food takeout restaurant & we decided to first try Lily Chinese Restaurant. Ordered the sweet & sour chicken entree with fried rice & egg roll. The egg roll was delicious but did not enjoy the chicken & fried rice nearly as much which lacked much flavor other than an over abundance of salt. We will most likely be trying a different Chinese restaurant in the area our next round. read more

The food isn't bad; about average for a small Chinese take out place. The service, however, is great. I used to eat here a lot when they first opened, but haven't eaten here for quite some time, and the woman who owns the restaurant still asks my family how I'm doing, and is very courteous to any dish alterations. This place has really gone down hill in the last several years. Tonight was the icing on the cake. We got take out and of course she said pick up in ten minutes and then it wasn't ready. My husband went to get the food and he ordered seafood soup. The soup that was in our bag wasn't seafood. My beef and broccoli was terrible. The beef and the broccoli was so unevenly cut that some of it was under cooked. The gravy was too thick and coated everything. Throughly disgusted. read more

I love the vegetable egg rolls and fried rice. My wife likes the vegetables with cashews. Great price, fast service.

Looks can be accurate. From the outside you would think this is a place to be avoided - and you would be right. There's a few tables (2 to be exact) for in-house dining, but this place is geared for the take-out crowd. Portions are HUGE and price is average. I had the Cashew chicken, and while the cashews and chicken were tasty, the huge portion had a ton of filler (aka Celery). Run, do not walk, from the Seaweed Soup. Eggrolls were ok. Not much choice out in the Township, but if you need something fast for dinner this will do...once in a while. read more

The most likely reason for the disparity in reviews is the varying standards. It's a chinese take-out restaurant in strip mall, located in a suburb so xenophobic (Olmsted Township) that I've seen residents (at various stores) ask non-whites what they are doing there. You were expecting world-class dim sum? Peking duck? Is this place better than Wok of the Falls (Columbia Road in Olmsted Falls, five minutes east)? Not really. China House (Bagley Road in Berea, ten minutes east?) Nope. Definitely not better than Nam Wah (about 500 feet past China House). I doubt it's better than anyplace in Columbia Station or North Ridgetucky. It is what it is. I have two major gripes with Lily. First, none of the entrees are good enough to order. When I get it (when I'm visiting my sister-in-law, who lives in the township), I stick to first courses and sides, which they handle well. The egg rolls (as Dan L notes in his review) are really good. I'm very fond of the dumplings / potstickers (the sauce especially)-- they're quite large. The fried rice doesn't taste like it ever hit the inside of a wok-- and it is very lightly seasoned. But there are lots of chunkies in it (the pork is the best). The lo mein (my sis's preferred) is not bad. She prefers the veggie, feeling that the meat ones taste funny. I've tried all the spicy stuff and basically given up. If you order the sweet and sour anything, the sauce comes on the side. YMMV as to whether you like that. Second, this place gets flagged A LOT by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. Not major violations (usually), but more than I'd like. The portions are very big, the prices are reasonable and they get the food out fast. I can place an order, go into Shakers (in the mall) to buy beer and snacks and the order will be done. Also they speak english well, so I don't get the wrong food. We still go there, because nothing better is close. I wouldn't drive more than five minutes, however read more

This is the best chinese food i have had in many, many years since the days of Shanghai and Chung Wah back in the 60-90's. I grew up on Chinese food - I finally found the best wonton soup in years. I was convinced after ordering wonton soup and getting everything from water based broth or chicken broth to no pork or no bok choy, that I was never going to have the wonton soup I remember over the years. Their food is excellent, high quality ingredients with an abundance of vegetables. The portions are very large. Their egg rolls and spare ribs are outstanding. I have turned my family members on to this restaurant as they too had been in search of good chinese food as we had years back. We are lucky to have this restaurant in our back yard in Olmsted Township. We got takeout and it was great! The wait time was longer than expected, but they were very nice. We had soup and shrimp lo mein.

The absolute worst even if the food is decent. Went in lunch break. He said he never got my call. Not only did I call but I called back to add an order. He stood there for fifteen minutes not taking or preparing my order. I asked several time if he would please start my order. Complete language barrier. No lunch. We live nearby and order fairly regularly. Food is delicious. Wait time is longer than 10 or 15 minutes as they try to accommodate but worth it. Lily is the owner and she aims to please along with her family who work there. Same people since opened. Anyone we've referred are returning customers. read more

Probably the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Chicken friend rice looked like white rice and was flavorless. Chicken was also rubbery and looked fake. I love Chinese food and Lily's take out is great! It is less salty and less greasy than most Chinese food I have had. Priced a bit higher but gives bigger portions, so it works. I ordered LoMein - had great noodles and lots of protein, MooGooGaiPan had perfectly cooked chicken and loved the big servings of Chinese vegies with it.
