I will start by saying that we have had several great meals at Southern Social. However, our last visit on 9/8 left a lot to be desired. First, ordered cocktails. Then I learned they did not have my liquor brand of choice. Not a big deal, but not a good start. Not what I expect at a fine dining establishment. We each ordered salads, entrees, and sides. My entree, redfish with crab, was inedible. The fish was clearly spoiled. It smelled bad and tasted rancid. We both tasted it and both agreed. I sent it back and ordered meatloaf instead. The side of mashed potatoes was served luke warm, and the texture was off (kind of runny). Asked to have it warmed up as I waited for my meatloaf, but that did not happen. The salads had toasted candied pecans. The pecans were burnt, not toasted, clumped up and so hard they really could not be eaten. Our server was great. No complaints with her whatsoever. However, it might have been nice to have had an apology from the manager. I was clear about the redfish ... it was rancid. Yet no visit from a manager. Again, not what I expected from a fine dining establishment. The total check was around $200 for two people, and at this price point in Germantown, frankly I expect more. I was not charged for the redfish, but nothing else was discounted or comped. No place is perfect, but it seemed like there were a lot of things wrong with our experience. Chose Southern Social to celebrate Father's Day. Made a reservation a month in advance for the first available time at 4:00. We attended church in Memphis which ends at 12:30 and bc we live out of state, we had to find things to do for 3 1/2 hrs. We discovered when we arrived that they had opened up reservations an hour early after we booked. I wish that they had first informed those of us who had first reservations so that we could move ours up. We arrived about 20 minutes early expecting to wait until our 4:00 reservation but they seated us immediately. We ordered wedge and harvest salads for our first course and the oyster deviled eggs appetizer. Both salads were very good. I did think the egg were a little bland and I didn't taste the oyster on one of the 4 deviled eggs. The candied bacon topping is what made the eggs overall good. Otherwise l, without the candied topping it was bland. I ordered the pork chop with sweet potato casserole and Brussels sprouts. My dish was very good and enough for me to take more than half for leftovers. (This doesn't mean change the portion bc it's just right.) My husband ordered the fried chicken dish. It was a giant piece of chicken. Fried very nicely but the coating was not seasoned well, if at all, to me. However, he enjoyed his meal and that's what counts. He said the collard greens were absolutely delicious and the mac and cheese was very cheesy and good! He also took home most of his meal. We don't have big appetites so the portions are probably just right for the majority. I took home the lemon pie dessert. I was expecting more of a meringue taste based on the description but it wasn't, so I wouldn't order it again. We ordered the house wine and 1 of the specialty drinks. The staff were very professional and friendly. The manager (I assume) stopped by every table to check on us. The restaurant has very nice ambiance and the tables have a nice amount of distance between them. It looks well maintained and the bathrooms are clean. The food and service as always great. Went there for our anniversary dinner, but I made a reservation for the wrong day. Yeah, I know. They immediately offered us a table on the patio. Not what I wanted, but was happy to be seated. Our server was very nice and accommodating. She brought us two chocolate strawberries and two glasses of champagne to celebrate our anniversary. The wife order the pork chop, and I had the fried chicken. Both were delicious and both were plenty to eat. The chicken was moist and tender and she said the pork chop was very tasteful. We were in town from Dallas, Texas, celebrating my godmother's birthday. We made a reservation for a 4-top (High-top table near the bar) because that was the only table available. When we arrived, my godmother couldn't sit in the high seat. This is Saturday night service and the restaurant is packed, yet the server found the manager and seated us at a regular table. I have never known a restaurant to do that during a busy service. Our server was Garrett, who was spectacular. The food was superb (we came here for my birthday last year). I had the meatloaf last time, but Lasagna was on the menu, so I tried it. As a cook myself, I can say it was one of the best dishes I have ever tasted. It is so good that I am working to recreate it at home. They brought my godmother a birthday crème brûlée and had the valets bring our cars around the front so she wouldn't have to walk down the stairs. These people are amazing. We loved the fried pimento sandwiches though it was too much and they weren't all evenly sized (not sure why that irks me). The best thing we had was the pork chop. Very, very nice. The chatter was a little loud so that I had to talk loudly to be heard and place a cupped hand to my ear to hear. :-( Maybe the owner should consider heavy drapes or sound deadening wall and ceiling coverings. The fried pimento cheese sandwich was stupendous! It was fried to a perfect crispy crust, the cheese was melted to a velvety smooth dollop and served on a very shallow pond of toothsome sauce. The fried chicken was a show stopper, eating it was a drop-the-mike moment and truly one of the best I've ever had...by far. Perfect crust and seasoned and cooked just right, plus moist and very flavorful chicken. The tater tots were not so crisp, not much honey and the jalapeño specs were concentrated onto a few of the tots rather than applied to all or most. Suggestion to chef--brush on a light coat of honey then place in a bag with finely minced jalapeño and lightly shake. Just trust me. Try it. Approaching the building you get cute, cozy and quaint vibes. They offer valet parking so score there. You can also self park. They have two outdoor patios, a very nice bar area and then regular seating. Reservations highly recommended especially on the weekends. Walking in you are greeted at the door and every single person working stops and speaks. They're overly pleasant and I greatly appreciated it. Once my party of 5 was seated we had absolutely no wait. Hannah was AMAZING! She was attentive, kind, knowledgeable and patient. Now on to the food. Now this was a hit or miss with each guest. I had the redfish and crab entree that came with asparagus and grits. I'm not a grit person with fish but if that's your preference you should enjoy it. Two guests have steaks and they enjoyed them. Not the best but cooked to perfection and juicy. Another guest had the shrimp and grits and absolutely loved it. The fried chicken was massive but lacked seasoning. But to be a breast it was juicy. The greens were vinegary (if that's a word) so not everyone enjoyed that. They were decent to me. The Mac and cheese was over baked so a tad bit dry. But the loaded mashed were out of sight. Perfection. The rolls were a hit and one of my guests had 4!! And as an appetizer we had the deviled eggs with the fried oysters and we asked them to separate the two. Each had a decent taste but again lacked seasoning. Would I return? YES! And guess what, not the food but for the service. It's not many places now that provide that exceptional level of care. Oh and how can I forget the best part of my meal (which I didn't get a picture of) was......the creme brûlée. OMG. The best I've had so far. It's a #1 tie between another local establishment. Finally tried this place after visiting Coastal Fish and Porch and Parlor (related brands from my understanding). The decor was gorgeous, old Southern charm with dark, hard woods, chandeliers, and tufted booths. We had a reservation and they honored, about 10 minutes past time which was ok with us. We had a very friendly server who made great recommendations to us. I went with the Sea Bass with yukon whipped potatoes and a chopped salad (Romaine, Iceberg, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Black-eyed Peas, Bell Pepper, Celery, Grape Tomato Feta Cheese, and Green Peppercorn Buttermilk Dressing) to start. I also tried the Socialite cocktail which contained 1792 Small Batch Bourbon, Peach Liqueur Honey, Mint, and Lime. Really well mixed cocktail and the peach was a nice touch. I also tried The Memphian (because, duh) which had Huling Station Bourbon, Domaine Canton, Luxardo Cherry, Lemon, and Bitters. It wasn't as refreshing as the Socialite but was well made and was smooth. Everything was very good but I took off one star because the sea bass was lacking a bit in flavor and didn't seem as tender as I've had it in other establishments. I had a really nice Christmas Eve dinner here with my wife. The service was personable and fairly efficient. The atmosphere was casual, but many of us diners dressed up anyway. For appetizers, I shared some of my barbecue shrimp, which came in a delicious sauce which was a twist on bbq and perhaps chocolate? I ate all my delicious and fresh quarter wedge salad myself, however. I was so impressed with the fried chicken breast. It came with gourmet mac & cheese and field greens full of bits of ham. We dined here for my husband's birthday. Overall the hostess, our server were very pleasant. The reason for the three stars was solely based on the quality of the food. Our appetizer was great and our dessert was amazing. As for our main course it lack seasoning. We had to ask the server for melted garlic butter and seasoning to help bring some flavor to our meal.
