My family have used Laughlin for my sweet Grandmother's cremation and burial service; my beloved nephew's re-burial service from Florida to Maple Hill Cemetary when my sister and her husband relocated to Huntsville permanently and purchased grave sites for themselves at Maple Hill, and wanted their beloved son to be buried in the same area as they will be; and most recently, for my sweet Momma's cremation and burial. Somehow, there is a connection between Miss Sarah Chappell and my family, although we went to Butler High School, and I would imagine Miss Sarah went to Huntsville. My sister told me the connection, it just escapes me. Miss Sarah is knowledgeable, personable, and helpful! I met her at my nephew's reburial service. From an outsider's perspective looking in at my sister and brother-in-law's implementation of my nephew's reburial from FL to Maple Hill Cemetary in Huntsville, there were a lot of "moving parts" and logistics involved this effort! Miss Sarah was instrumental with removing nephew from his current gravesite, transporting him to Huntsville, replacing him in a new casket because the old one had deteriorated, transporting him to Maple Hill Cemetary, and then, [Phew! Thinking of all these steps, and the various laws and regulations that must be adhered to is wearing me out!] successfully holding a re-burial service for him, and likely, she and her team helped with sister's selection of his beautiful tombstone marker and its install! Miss Sarah and team pulled this entire effort off without a hitch, always remaining sensitive to the emotions and the gravity of this unusual circumstance. Fun local trivia: It was fun to see former Mayor Loretta Spencer was a former co-owner of Laughlin and is now shown on their website as being Secretary/Treasurer of Laughlin Service Funeral Home & Crematory. It was also interesting to see how the funeral home served our community with numerous grants they gifted to local non-profits in honor of their 150th year in business. The Laughlin grants totaled 54,620.50!!! Well done, Laughlin! A lot of back work goes into gifting those grants! Although it is not something we look forward to, I know Laughlin Service Funeral Home & Crematory will always be ready, willing, and able with the utmost professionalism to help out in any way that my family or I need. She requested his clothing and the director acted like he did not hear her. She feared she would not get his final belongings. My sister was not the only one in the family to witness his callousness. When I confronted the director about his treatment of my sister during her time of grief, he just chuckled and laughed it off as if it was of no concern for him. My family bought plots here in the 1990s and, when my favorite sister and her husband moved back to town several years ago, her husband bought some plots from a NASA worker who had them for sale and they are only yards from the rest of my family's plots. Talk about a score!!!! I love the wide array of tombstones and the abundant walkers [some with pups] who frequent the cemetery. It's a large cemetery with various sections: military/veterans, children, some interesting crypts, and some super old graves. It's also very well maintained. Streets are super narrow, so good luck with a large truck or SUV. My only suggestion would be to have an app or at least hard copy directories indicating where people are buried. I've been looking and looking for my best friend's father's grave and cannot for the life of me find it! I'm sure if one visits during business hours the folks in the office can help, I just happen to visit during off hours.

When my nephew passed away suddenly and unexpectedly we were at a loss as to how to begin planning his final arrangements. My fathers burial had been handled by this funeral home decades ago so we asked the first responders to contact them to arrange for his body to be picked up. The gentleman from Hazel Green Funeral Home, Johnny, came very quickly, handled the transportation of the body, spoke with the family and set up an appointment later in the day for us to meet with them. That afternoon, we met with Craig Whisenant, one of the owners, and he was so very patient in answering our questions and helping us make exactly the arrangements we desired. I guess funeral directors get a bit of a bad, often undeserved rep. You worry that they will try to exploit your grief and sell you services or materials you don't really need or want or inflate the prices of the services you do need at a time when you aren't thinking clearly. Nothing like that happened. We wanted a simple cremation and a visitation to meet and greet family and friends. We didn't wish to hold a funeral service, didn't need a casket or lots of extras. Craig listened to what we wanted and helped us arrange exactly that, while tending to the legal requirements and helping us to write an obituary, arrange for extra copies of the death certificate, etc. They even allowed us to supply our own urn for the remains, which my sister already owned. Craig arranged for publication of the obituary and explained to us some of the process that would take place next. Over the next couple of days we had several questions and a quick call to the funeral home was all it took to get an answer. The visitation was a lovely event in a nice, simple, clean and well lit space. They took some photos that we provided and arranged them into a beautiful slideshow that ran in the background. They allowed us to provide our own music, songs that were meaningful to the family and our deceased nephew, and provided a lovely sign-in book with his picture in it and other nice touches that we would not have thought of given our state of mind in the situation. When we realized that some other relatives wanted to keep some of the ashes, after they had already been sealed in one urn, they were able to split them up for us and did not charge us anything extra except for the very reasonable fee for the additional small urns. The whole cremation, transportation of the body and their services and use of the facilities was quite reasonable and we feel were were dealt with in a very fair and caring manner. I hope nobody reading this review ever needs their services. However, of course we all do from time to time. I fully recommend Hazel Green Funeral Home. They helped us immensely in a difficult and trying time and were very reasonable with the cost and they assisted us to arrange exactly the services we wanted.
