We're regulars at the 5:30 AM Zombie Class -- yes, it's early, but 100% worth it! The atmosphere here is welcoming, supportive, and full of positive energy. Everyone we've trained with has been incredibly patient, caring, and fun to roll with. The instructors are fantastic across the board -- Keith goes above and beyond, dedicating a ton of his personal time to help us grow. David is calm, patient, and excellent at breaking things down, and I've really appreciated Alex's wisdom and thoughtful insights as well. Whether you're a complete beginner or experienced practitioner, this is one of the best jiu-jitsu studios in town. I highly recommend dropping in and becoming part of the Infinite family!

However, the details of instruction and the friendliness of everyone at Infinite, from the owner to beginners, is unmatched. Gustavo (owner/instructor) continues to compete and master his own craft while stressing the importance of technique over brute force to students. I appreciate this approach as an older practitioner, especially after training overseas at an MMA gym which had the opposite mentality. Gustavo is also supportive of kids and adults who want to compete and does his best to be mat-side with them at tournaments. Regarding the kids classes, I also appreciate the few minutes he spends a with them at the beginning of class talking about their day and trying to connect BJJ lessons to proper behavior off the mat.

I've been training Jiu-Jitsu for over 20 years, and I can honestly say that Professor Elizandro…read more"Eli" Beda is the best coach I've ever had--hands down. That's not something I say lightly. His Jiu-Jitsu knowledge is on another level. The guy has a photographic memory, which is amazing on the mats (and let's be honest--kind of annoying off the mats when he remembers everything). But when it comes to Jiu-Jitsu, that recall makes him an absolutely world-class instructor. Eli isn't just one of the best Jiu-Jitsu minds out there--he's also one of the best people I know. His values, morals, and integrity are unmatched. He leads by example both on and off the mat, and you truly feel that every time you step into the academy. He's built a team of amazing black belts under him, and the culture at Beda BJJ reflects his leadership--technical, positive, humble, and family-oriented. One thing that really stands out is that Eli teaches the kids classes himself, which most high-level instructors don't do. The kids' program is thriving, and the young students love it. He's got a group of incredible assistants helping out, and they all bring the same energy and dedication. On top of that, Eli is also incredibly intelligent. He was an electrical engineer before going all in on Jiu-Jitsu, and that analytical mindset is part of what makes him such an elite instructor. I consider him one of the best instructors in the world, and more importantly, one of the best people I've ever met. If you're thinking about training or bringing your kids to Beda BJJ--don't hesitate. This place is something special.

The coaches are plentiful, accessible and very knowledgeable, who have even given extra time to help our kids when needed. Our kids have excelled because of their care and the care of helpful students. I have often discussed with other parents of the students about how good the community is at CHECKMAT. I personally believe that Eli and Brandy have created a purposeful, approachable, and family-friendly environment. My baby has grown to love it there too!

Update: Darren did reach out and his sincerity was felt. I…read morecan tell coach Darren is a great coach but doesn't have enough of him to go around. I hope he finds another coach as passionate as him who can help assist him in his class so it can shine to its brightest. ----------------- We wanted our daughter (6 years old) to start doing a self defense class and was recommended jujitsu. We were trying places out that were under our charter. We called this place and left a message as it says to do. Coach Darren called us back a couple days later and was very kind and accommodating. We came into his class and he was kind enough to loan us a pink GI :). Upon starting the class it was similar as the last one we tried out the week prior ( my daughter loved the last class we tried out at Cassio Jujitsu in Carmichael but we found out they do not accept our school funds so we tried this place). There was probably 14 kids in this class maybe a few more. There was only 1 Darren. They began to do drills like "knee to the gut" which my daughter was paired with a similarly sized kid but much more advanced and I watched as they were supposed to be only doing 6 to each other but my daughters pal did 19 I counted. My daughter had a brave face but I would see she was uncomfortable. I should have stood up and said something because that's my job and I will next time something like this happens. Darren was to busy to be sure the new kids in his class where being treated properly. She was complaining of her belly pain and they moved on to shoving each other down. He didn't explain how to properly fall before he paired my daughter with a boy similar size but he pushed her so hard in the stomach. She began to cry and pushed him back. Coach finally took noticed and told her to go get water and calm down. She drank one drink and puked in my hands. I can tell he is an excellent coach and I understand this might be the nature of martial arts but the other place did a much better job and had two coaches to keep an eye on each child match to be sure each child knew what was being taught. I felt like she was met with a sink or swim coach. I felt like his class was to big for him to properly monitor the class. And I fell dropped as he never checked in on us or even helped us understand how to help my daughter to either learn the techniques or help us know what we should have done. I hope when he reads this and when anyone reads this it is to understand my situation and not to say anything bad on Darrin. The other parents in that class seemed to really love that class and love Darrin's approach. I can tell coach Darrin is a great coach but I do think he dropped the ball with our kid and unfortunately she is terrified to ever go back.
