Enterprise rent a car is pathetic. Two weeks ago my daughter and son in law and young kids were…read morestranded in this town due to a problem with their truck. They were headed up to our family in Truckee. They found an auto shop that was willing to store their truck for a week and then they were going to rent a car for the week so that they could make it to Truckee. Enterprise, the only rental car place in the whole area, flat out refused to rent them a car because they didn't have a credit card. My daughter had her debit/visa available and my son in law had a digital credit card. Enterprise told my daughter that it has to be a credit card to rent a car so my daughter told them to run her card as a credit then since it can be used as a credit card. Enterprise then said "no your card has to be run as a debit because we run the transaction as a debit if it is a debit/Visa card." My daughter then said to run it as a debit and then they said "no we can't do it because it isn't a locally issued debit card." I guess if you're more than 50 miles away you're out of luck with a debit card here. Then my son in law said to run the transaction on his digital credit card and they wouldn't do that either. My daughter explained their being stranded situation and then I called them too. We begged and pleaded with them to no avail. They had spent the whole day waiting in the hot sun for AAA to tow their truck and then at the auto shop to find out what was wrong with the truck. The auto shop only had a tiny shed for sun protection. If they had a car from Enterprise they could've at least been able to have AC while they waited, since the auto shop was too far walking distance to any places to sit in AC. They had to stay in Bishop an extra night and the only saving grace was the Vagabond Inn. My daughter's Venmo card wasn't working when she tried to book a room there so I called the Inn to rent them a room. Luis took pity on me when he heard the desperation in my voice. Normally you have to be there to show your I.D. which is their policy. Unlike Enterprise, Luis waived the policy, and graciously let me rent them a room at the Vagabond. Luis recognized that this was an emergency since they were stranded. Enterprise on the other hand, didn't give a crap. My son in law finally was able to rent a truck through Turo. They made it up to Truckee and at the end of the week they rented a car in Reno through Budget, with absolutely no issues, to drive back to Arizona, since they had to return the Turo rental to Bishop. My husband and I have been long time customers of Enterprise but no longer. We will use Avis, Budget or Turo from now on and we will certainly share this negative story of what my daughter and son in law went through, with everyone that we know. Enterprise has lost a customer of over 35 years and will be losing a lot more customers after everyone hears this story.

Brett, the owner, and his helper Jared were both incredibly knowledgeable and took the time to explain everything they found without ever making me feel pressured. They serviced my transmission and also tracked down and resolved a fuel/air gap issue that had been causing problems. Instead of just throwing parts at the truck, they took the time to properly diagnose the issue and fix it the right way. It's obvious they take pride in their work and stand behind it. Finding a mechanic you can truly trust is rare these days, but Brett and Jared have earned my confidence. They were friendly, transparent, and communicated throughout the entire process. My truck is running great, and I won't hesitate to make the drive back for future service. If you're looking for an honest, skilled, and dependable mechanic, I highly recommend Jim Allen's shop. Thanks again to Brett and Jared for the outstanding service!

We narrowed the sound down to the transfer case and drove the truck to the Chevron in Mammoth. They put it up on the lift, and confirmed the transfer case and recommended Jim Allen's Auto-Matics in Bishop, CA. I called and spoke with Brett the owner of Allen's Auto-Matics. I made an appointment with him for Monday July 6th and delivered my truck to him. Brett also diagnosed the swishing sound and unfortunately for me, the Ram needed a rebuilt transfer case. What fast service, in on Monday, July 6, and out on Wednesday July 8. Thank you Brett for taking me in on short notice and getting me back on the road like a pit crew at a NASCAR race. We left Mammoth on Thursday, July 9 and drove 314 miles to SoCal without any issues. I highly recommend Brett at Jim Allen's Auto-Matics in Bishop, CA.

I stop in Lee Vining for fuel - and what happens? The bus won't start. Of course, it won't start. I'm stuck 350 miles from home. At least its summer and not snowing.... After several attempts to self-diagnose the problem, and a recommendation from the Lee Vining Shell station (a great guy named Shelley), the bus was towed to Bishop and taken to Sierra German where I eventually met Tim Miller. He took interest immediately and noted some problems with fuel seepage. Being the only noted VW mechanic for some hundreds of miles around, he was busy with work - and the pandemic wasn't helping. Anyway, he traced the main problem to a frayed wire to the cylinder head sensor and also a bad electric connection to the air box. He noted a few other things "that should be taken care of" too. All in all, the experience was top notch and my bus came alive and made it home. Bishop is a great small town in a beautiful part of California - so the pace there is understandably different than the bigger urban areas of the State. I read some of the other yelp reviews before heading to Sierra German. That said, Tim was responsive to my plight and is an expert I'd seek out again if I'm ever passing by within a 200 mile radius of Bishop. On the wide, open road that is California and Nevada, Tim's shop is now on my list of reliable mechanics.

All I'm going to say is that he will tell you your vehicle will be ready in a few days with parts ordered and then after he gets the part, it will take him 3 or 4 more days to start working on the vehicle and then days to finish. Finally .. we are physically waiting on him to finish so we can go back home. Why couldn't he just give us worst case scenario with truthful waiting times instead of keeping us hanging on?? Like his time is way more valuable than anyone else's? disrespectful . On a lighter note his work was well done! And I appreciate that. Just do not believe him when he states it will be done by a certain time .

Avoid This Circus: Predatory, Hostile, and Trashy…read more I'd give zero stars if I could. I booked a one-way trip from the airport to Mammoth Mountain Inn with "Scotty," who was clearly too busy juggling three other conversations to do his job properly. Despite his distractions, I explicitly reaffirmed the $100 rate and my destination before hanging up. The real "professionalism" started ten minutes into the ride. Scotty called the driver to arbitrarily hike the price to $140. When I objected to being scammed, he actually told the driver to either leave me stranded or dump me at the Village--miles from my actual destination. But wait, it gets classier. Another ten minutes later, Scotty calls the driver's cell (thinking he's off the radio) and says, "Go ahead and take him to the Inn since he's being a little b****" Little did he know, I heard every word. Scotty is the definition of a "tough guy" behind a phone screen--disrespectful, immature, and fundamentally unprofessional. This isn't just a bottom-tier taxi service; it's a predatory vendor that makes the entire local community look like a joke. I've already filed a formal claim with the airport and the city regarding their "partnership" with this hostile operation. I won't stop escalating until I get a formal apology. If you value your money or your dignity, call literally anyone else.
