Linda was great to work with, especially as a person who had no idea what to expect when it came to wedding dress alterations. The bustle she sewed was beautiful and the veil was exactly what I needed!

I have a more muscular/athletic build and Linda helped to make sure I could raise my arms in these lace sleeves.

I ordered my wedding dress from Etsy and it only needed some minor alterations. Linda added a bustle for me and took out the arms a bit in the biceps. Everything turned out so perfectly, I could raise my arms and was comfortable the whole night. Linda was so easy to work with too. Very communicative and flexible. I'd highly recommend her to anyone needing alterations.

I was told I HAVE TO go see Linda to get my wedding dress altered. I am so thankful I did. She was so professional, made me feel comfortable, and made my dress look stunning! She even turned my Mom's wedding dress into robe! Linda gave me tips and tricks about storing my dress, caring for my dress, and how to make sure it never got caught under my feet. Linda is your go to wedding dress specialist!

    Wedding dress alterations

Linda is absolutely the best! The alterations she made to my wedding gown were breathtaking. She also engineered a waist belt so the weight of the dress was distributed evenly between my waist and hips. This made it incredibly comfortable to wear all day. My friends complained of bruising and bleeding from the weight of their wedding dresses, but I did not experience any of this at all. She made sure my look was absolutely perfect at my final fitting (shoes, hair, veil, etc). My veil was a little long compared to the dress length, so she was able to alter it quickly so it all flowed together seamlessly. If you are looking for any alterations or custom pieces, look no further! Her rates are very fair and I can't recommend her enough!

However, the experience my mother and I had at this establishment was so disappointing that I feel compelled to share it. My mother brought in the dress she planned to wear to my wedding for alterations. When we picked it up, we noticed several blue ink marks on the dress. I calmly said, "Oh my goodness, could you please take a look at these stains?" At that point, the man I believe to be Abel immediately began yelling at me, told me to "shut up," and insisted I was making a big deal out of the situation. He repeatedly used profanity while speaking to us. Throughout the interaction, I remained calm and chose not to argue or escalate the situation. His wife then came out with a wet cloth and attempted to remove the ink marks. While she was apologetic and made an effort to address the issue, the stains were not completely removed. Upon further inspection, we also noticed that the hem of the dress was uneven. We paid over $200 for these alterations and expected to receive quality workmanship and professional customer service. We were not asking for a favor--we were paying customers expecting the service we had paid for. My mother and I are hardworking people who make a conscious effort to support small businesses because we value the work they do. We also believe in treating others with respect, regardless of the circumstances. Unfortunately, that same respect was not extended to us. While I appreciate the wife's attempt to remedy the issue, the behavior we experienced was unacceptable and unprofessional. WE WERE NOT LOOKING FOR A DISCOUNT AND WE PAID THE FULL AMOUNT WE AGREED ON. Based on the quality of the work and, more importantly, the way we were treated, I cannot recommend this business. I will not be returning, and I hope this review helps others make an informed decision. What should have been a joyful and memorable part of preparing for my wedding with my mother was instead overshadowed by the way we were treated. Abel's behavior turned what should have been a special experience into a deeply upsetting one

The dress fit perfectly afterward and they completed it within a week, earlier than the pickup date I had asked for. The main issue for me was the organization during pickup. I received a text saying my dress was ready, but when I arrived they brought out a completely different piece of clothing even after I clearly described my dress. Turns out they had mixed up the name tags between my dress and someone else's. I ended up going to the back with them and immediately spotted my dress myself. I pointed it out and they asked if I was sure it was mine, which was a little strange. Then they asked me to try it on. At first I thought they just wanted to confirm the alterations looked right, but it turned out they wanted to see if it fit me to determine whether it was actually my dress. Thankfully it fit like a glove. Even after that, they still seemed unsure so I showed Yelp messages I had previously sent with photos of the dress, along with my receipt and even how much I paid. I usually throw receipts away, so thank goodness I still had it. After confirming in multiple different ways, they finally let me take my dress home. Another woman was also there picking up clothing after receiving a text notification and they were struggling to locate her item too, so it didn't seem like an isolated issue. Overall, I think the tailoring work itself is solid, but the shop felt pretty disorganized. The guy working there did apologize before I left, which I appreciated, but the whole process of having to repeatedly prove the dress was mine was definitely frustrating.

Not only did they hem my wedding dress, they brought it in so it fit perfectly and they added sleeves - exactly as I wanted. They allowed me to come in for fittings as needed and made sure my dress fit like a dream. I also needed a dress tailored for our wedding dance which included adding a split so I could lunge, hemming it to remove the train, bringing it in and adding sleeves. They nailed it!! They were so awesome that I ended up having three other dresses altered in addition to my wedding dresses. Now let's talk cost. The value was SO REASONABLE! The shop where I purchased my dress wanted to charge me triple what I paid at Abel De Valente. So glad I stumbled on this mom-and-pop, family-owned shop! After being discouraged by a couple of unfriendly locations on the phone, I came to the number for North Riverside Cleaners. A little farther from my neighborhood than I wanted it to be, but I thought, "Why not call them? For giggles...." I spoke with a woman named Bonnie. She said she couldn't give me an exact price for alterations because she needed to see the dress. Understood. I asked how late they were open to find out I had only 45 minutes till closing, but I had to get the darn dress in, so I got in the car and booked. Bonnie was a sweet little woman with short, doll-like but slightly graying curls. She was dressed like she came straight out of a 1950s issue of Better Homes and Gardens with an A-line skirt past the knee and a pretty, conservative blouse. The shop itself mirrored her antiquity: old, wooden paneling; a vintage-looking sign out front that lets passers-by know they do alterations; homey, not sterile and steamy like most cleaners.... Bonnie greeted me with a humble and hospitable smile and knew I was the one she had recently spoken to on the phone. She took a look at the dress and keenly advised me of what needed to be done since there were different fabrics and particular frills that needed to be tackled. I could tell she was a seamstress fit for the task. Within minutes and well before closing time, she showed me to the fitting room, pinned what needed to be pinned, took down my information and said she would call me when the alterations were done. All this with a gentle air. I felt like I've known her since I was a child and knew I could trust her. She just made me feel so at home; I almost thought she'd bring out a plate of cookies and some milk! Not much more than a week later the dress was finished and I was very impressed by the handiwork. Such fine and delicate material was perfectly stitched, and the frills looked as if they hadn't been altered or reconstructed at all. Great place, great work, great satisfaction. I will bring all of my cleaning/alteration needs here. Go see Bonnie. She'd love the business!
