Lindell Air Duct Cleaning - This is all the ash I scraped out from our chimney flue that was blocking the smoke from escaping. I put the can there as a size reference.

Hired this team to come and clean the ducts and chimneys of our new home back in May. It was hard…read moreto pin them down for an appointment (I left a few messages, but eventually the owner called me back), but when they arrived the team was professional and kind. The owner stopped in near the close of the job, too, and talked to me for a few minutes, gave me a bonus clean for my laundry vent for no charge, so that was nice. He did seem scattered, like he had too much workload, but there were also some structural changes happening in the business then, too, so I didn't think anything of it. Come late October things got cold enough that we wanted to fire up our wood burner insert to warm the house. We loaded the cavity and lit the fire but the smoke was somehow trapped and got into the house; we put out the flames immediately once we saw there was a blockage. Well, at first I thought, "Operator error" and we pulled out the fireplace manual and read and re-read it to make sure we hadn't missed a step. Well, when hubby pulled out his flashlight, we were (seriously) displeased to find that the scrapings from the chimney cleaning hadn't been removed and were blocking the outlet! HUGE fire hazard! Good thing we'd been standing there to put out the fire immediately. Had we walked away to let the fire build itself, we would've had a serious problem on our hands that would have likely involved calling the fire department and running for our lives. I called the company Monday and left a message to have someone come out and clean the mess and clear our chimney of (highly flammable) particulates; called again Tuesday morning and left a message and was called back a couple hours later and talked to the owner, who (again) seemed scattered and overloaded. I explained the situation and his defense was "That's never happened before," making it seem as if it were our fault our chimney was blocked with debris, not taking responsibility at all. I insisted it wasn't operator error, explained and he somewhat reluctantly said he'd come in to take a look at it, but reminded me (again) that he was really busy and wouldn't be able to come until Thursday or Friday, that he'd have to check his schedule and, again, he was really busy. Well, here it is Saturday and I haven't heard again from the owner, even after calling and leaving (another) message Friday. We gave them a week's time to fix their mistake, so forget it. We'll do it ourselves. Not that this isn't something we can't handle ourselves, but it's an annoyance and definitely a disappointment to have to do something that you paid to have done. Besides that, the failure of this company to clean up their mess unknowingly put my family in danger, creating a huge fire hazard that could have burnt down our entire house. Again, had we lit the flame and let the fire stoke itself (as I might guess some people would), who knows what would have happened. Tried giving these folks benefit of the doubt and what we feel is a good chance to at least stop by and see for themselves what the trouble was, but not after this unresponsiveness. We'll do it ourselves so we can have a fire this weekend and heat our living room.
