Well known as the town with the teapot water tower just north of Forest Lake. Along with a tasty lunch in Chisago. Places and things we checked out included lots of cute local shops and of course some sweet treats! @thelindstrombakery was worth the trip on its own We tried a variety of things and got some take home goodies. Swedish Almond Cookies (so. darn. good. Had to get some for later) ALL of their donuts were so fresh and light. Highly recommend getting yourself here for treats. Aw guys I hate to down my previous rating. Nice remodeling job and for fixing the dangerous floor with the step down on entrance. Simple scheme with tables and a smaller store as the rest of the space is used for another shop. Problem: There is very little selection. The bakery used to be lined with shelves, now it is all in the front closed off as the employees have to reach take it out. No rolls or buns, just basic breads and nothing all that creative. There are bags of cookies to go and they have coffee beans with no price marked. Others have mentioned donuts, but I didn't see any. The previous owners had loads of donuts and the signs still says "Scandinavian Donuts". The changes haven't seem to affect business as it was bustling on a Saturday morning. I never saw that many people in the store in years past. read more

My wife and I were passing through today and stopped. One thing we bought was a large chocolate brownie. The ones in the display counter looked delicious. My wife said when she asked for one the lady went elsewhere to get the one she sold us. She wrapped it and put it in he bag so we never did see it. When we got home we sure did. It was inedibly dry with deep cracks in it from being dried out. The chocolate chips on top were white. Beware of the bait and switch from this place! read more

A truly old fashioned bakery that boomers like me grew up with. I stopped on the way back from St. Croix Falls and I always will. I didn't need bread but there's plenty of it. I got the famous plain doughnuts and loved them. What I believe was an apple streudel was light and flakey but could use a little more filling. The cookies were perfect. My favorite were the white Swedish and the CCC. The spice in the oatmeal raisin was over powering so Basil got to enjoy those for himself. The service is friendly. When I read that Food and Wine had rated the donuts at Lindstrom Bakery the best in MN, I had to add that to my list of places to try. We were heading up north to visit some friends which provided the perfect opportunity to grab some breakfast on the way. The bakery is easy to find and is right on the main street in town. We arrived just before 8:00am and there was already a line out the door with more people arriving. We ordered 2 glazed and 2 cinnamon sugar of their Scandinavian donuts. You might say what is a Scandinavian donut? Besides being made by a nice Scandinavian lady, they are in my opinion essentially a smaller version of an old fashioned donut. They are slightly crispy on the outside and cake like on the inside. Well in my opinion Food and Wine had too much wine and not enough donuts. This is a good donut. Hard to not like a donut. Just ask Homer Simpson. I just didn't love this donut. I have said that the apple fritter is my favorite donut. The old fashioned is my 2nd favorite donut due to the combination of textures. These donuts were a little smaller, I liked the cinnamon better than the glazed because of that slightly crunchy exterior. They do also have other donuts, breads and cookies available. Next time I'm in the area I'd be interested in trying some more items and probably some more donuts too. read more

In a world where you buy cookies & pastries in supermarkets prepackaged by the dozens, this IS your place to come for the old fashioned pick each of your choices-as many as you want. My friendly wait staff answered my questions and bagged up ALL our treats, 3 bags for under $10. Whoa-you mean fun/different pastries for NOT $5 a piece? Yes, please. We stopped at the Lindstrom Bakery on the way to the casino. When I first walked in, I saw the crunchy cinnamon toast, and immediately thought of my Swedish grandfather. He loved that toast and so did I. The first bite brought me right back to those past moments. I also picked up some of the crispies with apple, which were also utterly amazing. I'm from out of state and was looking for a nice Swedish bakery and stumbled upon Lindstrom bakery. I came at the end of the day so there weren't too many options but I ordered a few Swedish old fashioned donuts and a Swedish almond cookie. The GLAZED Swedish old fashioned donuts are THE BEST, especially when dipped in coffee!! I noticed some Limpa bread options and there seemed to be a variety of baked goods offered earlier in the day. The prices are also relatively cheap and you can get many donuts for a good price!!! The staff wore masks but the store is a little small so I would recommend not going in there with too many people due to COVID. When I was leaving the store a lot of people were eating outside to come in, so it must be very popular for the locals. read more

There aren't many bakeries in northern Washington County and Southern Chisago County. So, we enjoy going to the Lindstrom Bakery to get fresh-baked items. There is a nice selection of pastries, cookies, and breads. It is easy to purchase treats for the entire family for under $5. It's a bit smaller than the bakery I remember visiting when I was a child living in north Minneapolis, but it has that typical bakery smell the minute you walk in the door. It brings back good memories of a simpler and happier time. There are health food items, crafts, pop, and other miscellaneous items available throughout the store. There is a little eating area with tables and chairs if you want to eat your breakfast or treat there and not in the car. For this visit, my daughter ordered a filled doughnut which she enjoyed. We brought back home rosettes which were delicate and lightly dusted with powdered sugar. I have never been able to make these successfully, so it's a real treat when I find them. We will definitely be going to Lindstrom Bakery in the future. read more

stopped there today, looking for cardamom rolls. they didn't have any. Scandinavian bakery? What we had was pretty good, not outstanding, so a star for that. If we had gone into the seating area before ordering, we probably would not have ordered at all. The dining area was absolutely FILTHY! Not just the tables. Stopped by on a drive up north. There place is bigger than I thought and on a late afternoon the cases were full with cookies and donuts. It's cash only, but everything was cheap and you could buy a little something for everyone in the car for less than $10. I tried a few cookies. They were crumbly and dry (dont eat these in the car). The Scandinavian donuts were alright, and the regular donuts were a bit dry as well. The guy behind the counter seemed absolutely annoyed that he had to work. Overall not a good experience and I probably wouldn't stop back. If you do end up going I would recommend the Scandinavian donuts. Almost like a donut hole with crispy outside. read more

We stop at The Lindstrom Bakery when ever we leave our house in Ham Lake going to our son's home in Western WI. We love many of their sweet treats, especially the donuts. When we saw it was for sale we were sad, but it sounds like the new owners are carrying on the Swedish recipes and the customers have continued to buy their fantastic bakery items. You might drive right by this place if you didn't know it was there. I wanted to try some Swedish donuts and this was the perfect opportunity. I walked inside and there was quite a long line which was a good sign to me. They were out of the coconut donut which is what I really wanted. I was excited that you could also try the donut holes. The old fashioned was delicious and I really enjoyed he donuts. They have a whole bunch of health food which seems pretty random in the front of the store and a bunch of homemade bread and cakes. I have not been to the Lindstrom Bakery in 25-30 years so I had to stop in to show my family a cute little bakery. It was the early afternoon, so technically I understand why there were basically no doughnuts, but that was really a bummer because that is what we were looking forward to having, but they only had 2 kinds and they looked rough, so we opted for cookies. We ordered 6-8 cookies to try every kind and that was a lot of fun. Hopefully when new ownership takes over they don't change it too much, because we will stop in again. read more

I grew up going to this bakery, and every time I return "home" to my parents in Luck I stop in if they are open during my drive up. Thrilled they are still open so 5 starts for that...but they used to be so good (4+ stars) ...now they are average at best. This is a quaint local bakery with breads, cakes, cookies, and donuts. I only sampled their baked goods because they use shortening, and I'm a trans-fat phobe. I'd love to see them switch to non-hydrogenated oil. Their overly sweet donuts and cinnamon rolls were decent, but I've definitely had better. I give them an extra star for their excellent organic pantry, full of spices, grains, and other healthier options for the home baker. It's amost schizophrenic, the sugary trans-fat filled donuts on one side and the organic rolled oats and other pantry items on the other. The ONLY issue I have is that they only take cash, which I never have on hand so I can't go there as often as I'd like. My favorite items are the Scandinavian donuts. They're a sort of cake donut, but the outside is delightfully crisp while the inside is mouthwateringly tender. I love them to no end. The apple crispies are also fantastic. Stopped here today. We purchased 2 donuts holes, dozen almond cookies, almond cake and a pineapple upside down cake. Donut holes were dry, almond cookies didn't have much of an almond flavor. When we got home we saw that the pineapple upside down cake had mold growing on it and the almond cake was very dry and not very fresh. We won't EVER be stopping there again. read more

I was in the area for business and was attracted to the shop because it said that it was home of the Swedish donut - what is a Swedish donut was the question that I asked myself. Well, I stopped in on an early cold morning and picked up a glazed Swedish donut. For a mere $0.70 per donut, the Swedish donut is effectively a "O" shaped buttermilk donut with a light glaze on top. You can also get in with plain, cinnamon sugar, and chocolate topped. It is a tasty donut. If you have a good glazed buttermilk donut in your area, then you have your very own Swedish donut! If you are in the area, this is a good place to stop. They had lots of homemade breads, cakes, cookies, and candies. I've been going here once a year for the past several years as it's a bit out of the way for me, but wroth the drive! I always went there for the ginger snaps, which they sell by the bag. They're the closest to what my Swedish grandmother always had in the cookie jar. This trip I noticed the sign stating "home of the Scandinavian donut" so I bought a plain donut just to try one. I had driven by a handful of times and I finally stopped in. A very old fashion place that hasn't changed much in the past 20yrs from the looks of things. They have some bulk spices and food in the front + some organic items. There is a large cast of cookies, all sorts of variety. There is a lot of bread and toast in the center. I was very tempted by some Rye. The donuts are abundant and looked pretty good. So...they have a lot of items to pick from...almost overwhelming at times. I chose a HUGE molasses cookie shaped like a bear. Nice flavor in this cookie and not overly sweet. They lady working was pretty friendly and gladly listed off all the prices for items in the shop. I would stop back to try more baked goodies. You just don't find this type of bakery in every town. I'm sure that most of the items aren't that healthy (transfat, bleached flour, etc) but you are treating yourself. Just don't do it every day. read more

I cannot speak of the baked goods in this shop because after selecting over $7 worth of baked goods the cashier told me they don't accept debit cards. I whittled down my purchase hoping that the four dollars I had in cash would do. Ironically it totalled $4.20 and the cashier didn't offer to make up the .20 cents, instead directing me to an ATM down the street at a bar. After walking to the bar I found that it wasn't open early in the morning and the ATM was locked up inside. I thought it very unfriendly of the cashier not to make some kind of concession (I did have some change but not enough for the .20 cents....) so they can chalk up this lost sale and lost customer to education. Me - I learned they don't take debit cards. Them - hopefully they'll learn that the majority of their customers do use debit cards. This is a place I drive by on the way up to our cabin. I expect to be driving by it every single time now without stopping. By the way, I discovered the wonderful bakery at Marketplace Grocery in St. Croix Falls which I can now highly recommend. read more

He acted like we were bothering him (I have been to much smaller bakeries with gluten free options btw). The cookies were great, I would give them a 4 stars (possibly 5 if I tried more items). Very dingey and dirty inside. Spider webs on things hanging on the walls and a few beetles crawling across the bathroom floor. We went later in the day so weren't expecting the most fresh product but had donuts that were very stale and just crumbled in our mouth- very dry. We both threw them away before we even left. I recently moved to Lindstrom from out of country and stumbled upon this bakery. This is the kind of bakery you grew up with as a kid. The donuts are incredible! They use fresh buttercream frosting on their donuts and cakes. The donuts are cooked perfect! I've taken my 2 year daughter there a couple of times and she loves it. The people that work there are typical small town friendly which only enhances the ambience. If you're looking for Dunkin' Donuts, go elsewhere. Otherwise this is as good as it gets for the small town donut shop experience. They also do special order cakes made right in the shop.
