They were able to get me in for an appointment hours after calling them. Check in, even as a new patient, was a breeze! They are state of the art here, have all your information at their fingertips and show you instant X-rays in your private room. The waiting area has a flat screen and is very comfortable, but I was not waiting for more than a few minutes. The examining rooms also have cable TV Dr. Roland took lots of time to explain my treatment options and costs and Elizabeth (Technician) was very knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. Dr. Roland was not rough at all, and the whole experience was pain free. While not the least expensive in town, Austin Dental definitely takes time to make sure your treatment plan makes sense and your teeth look good. They spent a lot of time making sure that my temporary crown looked nice. Cost for Exam, X-rays, Root Canal with Porcelain Crown (plus temp), 2 fillings, and scaling was about $2800. They gladly take most insurance as out of network as well as payment plans or Capitol One Health Care Loans.

Jeff was my dentist for maybe 30 to 35 years. Never once did he do a procedure, xray, or work he…read moredidn't feel he could do or deemed necessary. He also didn't jump right in to do one either. He took a "wait and see" attitude and kept an eye on it. The if it needed it, he took care of it. He preferred to refer you to highly qualified experts which I find an asset rather than having someone fumble their way through a procedure and perhaps do more harm than good. No, Jeff isn't for everyone. He doesn't suffer fools gladly, and he didn't want to do children of any age or adults with past dental traumas. But there is a very, very good reason why. He served as a medic in Vietnam during the war, and was there on the day of the famous evacuation of families and children. Beyond that I cannot say because he is a man of integrity, respect, and intense privacy. Once when I asked Jeff to treat my then 8 yo son he told me to take him to a pedodontist when my son cried upon seeing the needle. It was only later that I could guess why. I miss him, and it hurts not to be his patient anymore. I have yet to find a dentist I know I'll stick with. Jeff wasn't in it for the money. A living yes, but not the money it would take to dress up his office with remodeling, plush furniture, paintings, and decorations. That can help or hurt a dentist. Those who "judge a book by its cover" may find the "70s" decor with cinder block white painted walls, and mementos of his life and framed collages of his time in Vietnam off-putting. And yes some of his major equipment showed wear and tear, but it worked just as well as the new 2016 showroom floor models. It also meant it kept his overhead down, way down. I don't know how much less but my cleaning earlier this year cost at least four times the $69 for cleanings Jeff charged and Jeff did the cleaning. He would say several times over the years, he'd rather keep his prices low so people would get dental care, than not and suffer through worsening conditions. Yes, Jeff is and was becoming a crusty old man, but the situation that caused his retirement wasn't the only serious condition which he had to fight. He never let on about it. Sometimes, after he knew you well enough and a relationship had developed, he let little snippets out. I can safely say, he was an Aggie of the Brigade through and through, with a backbone of steel to take him through the dark times, and love of humour, and every corny Aggie joke out there to share. For a number of years he donated his time to nursing homes, telling jokes, and doing other things to bring laughter to those who are forgotten, the elderly. For those who feel going to a dentist in a well decorated, plush, elegant office, with lots of staff, and lots of the newest, latest tools of the trade, then that is where they should go. It doesn't mean the quality of their work is better or necessary. It means there's a big budget to take care of those things. The same for offices with multiple dental specialist for just about everything. The practice's fees pay for it, and when your insurance runs out, it comes from your pocket. It's going to take time to find a new dentist, one who has just some of the same qualities as Jeff, a no frills skillful dentist with commensurate fees to match. The only good thing to come from his retirement is I take better care of my teeth now than I did before. Jeff is a good man and a good dentist who cared more about his patients than his bottom line or how nice his office looked. I miss him.

I was calling around and what made me choose to make an appointment was the absolutely charming lady who is his receptionist. She was extremely accommodating with the scheduling, very pleasant and easy going with everything that we wanted to have done. I arrived with a very friendly welcoming, the paperwork was very easy and fast to fill out and the lobby is inviting with personal photos of Dr Nieland and all of his lovely animals and family....He was very personable, humorous and made me feel comfortable the whole visit..also did a great job on my cleaning, was clean and Knowledgeable...I recommend him to anyone...and I will definitely be going back..

From the moment I stepped into Dr. Schrader's office I knew it would be different. There aren't a million people in the lobby waiting for their turn. All of his chairs aren't filled up with people while he runs to each one and to quickly assess the problems. No. He spends time with you and talks to you about any problems you may have. He asks about your day, your life and your health. He may gently reprimand you for not flossing, but we're supposed to floss dangit! If you can change dentists, you should. She even got me to have my HR dept call her and she still was focused on her one wrong attempt at verifying. I later got an appt with another dentist easy in 5 min. and wasted my whole morning with her. I was crushed when I realized this meant sawing off half my tooth! This is just the procedure btw, not Dr. Cass's choice lol. It ended up just fine. No one can even notice which tooth it is unless I told them. I had another last month and didn't think a thing of it. He makes the tooth same day, in the office, and puts it on! No temporaries or anything. One stop shop. His staff is extremely friendly as well. If you have a bad tooth ache or an emergency they will get you in right away. I definitely recommend him! I had heard horror stories from people who went to Castle, so I have stayed away from them(im sure they always aren't like the experiences I have heard, but I just choose to find a place elsewhere) . When I got in there, the staff is incredibly nice and there-after, every time I went in, they always were very friendly. Now, Chiang Jan Xie, The actual dentist - Love her. I have had a wonderful experience with them and she always hints at the regular bad for your teeth things that I do, such as soda, smoking, ect. (yay for me, I actually quit smoking!) I have had some tough times with my teeth and well, they aren't movie star quality at all, lol, maybe .0001% of that. She is always patient and gentle with me and we built up a great repor. I personally like this place and once had a nerve so bad, we couldn't work on it that day, the pain was ridiculous even under a numbing agent. She prescribed me some antibiotics and I was able to come in over the next couple of days, to have my procedure pain free. This was a great dentist and if I hadn't of moved so far away from them, I would gladly stay. Thanks for all the work you have done!
