Veggie burger with fried onions and chips

I had not been to this place since before Covid, but went to have lunch with friends who had been kayaking on the river behind the restaurant . There is a very convenient ramp there for boaters to tie up and dine. The place looks much cleaner than it was, and of course the taxidermy features everywhere. We had a very large elk head looming over our table . We all had something different, from fried shrimp to BLT. The food was okay, not exceptional , and the prices were the same. There is a modern campground right beside the restaurant. All in all I'd say it looks much more modern than it used to and has lost some of its charm.

I had heard of this place but went for the first time. It's a cool spot, def a lodge feel. I really went just to check out mainly how the place was decorated and see what all the talk was about. I was pleasantly surprised at the menu and the quality of the food. I ended up getting the smoked ribs which were very very good. BBQ smoked sliders were also good. Had a piece of peanut butter pie for dessert. It was great but was taken back by the $10 price. We had 2 meals , 2 beers, an appetizer and the pie and the bill was about $80. It surprised me a bit. Will we be back ? Yes Service was great and the folks were very friendly

AMAZING Florida Cracker style food! You can't find many restaurants carrying on traditional old school Florida country style food but this place is Historic in its food and decor! Everyone is like family and treats customers the same. The Gumbo & Jambalaya is the ABSOLUTE BEST I've ever tasted and I have eaten in Louisiana for decades! All the Fried food is sinfully delicious! Fantastic, Friendly Service! Browse the pictures and make your plans to visit Old Florida and this hidden gem! Highly Recommended!!

Food is good service is great. The ambiance cant be beat. You could walk around and look at the taxidermy for hours.

Loved everything! Went kayaking right at the launch and then had lunch here. The hush puppies were the best I've ever had - light, flavorful and a nice crunch on the outside. We shared the fried sampler - alligator, FG tomatoes and the frog legs. Yummy. We also got the sampler meal grilled - the garlic lemon sauce fantastic! This came with catfish instead of tomatoes and two sides. Wow! I've never had collard greens so good. And the spiced apples - perfect. The ambience was just as good as the meal - forgot to add I had two beers it was all so perfect (I normally have one, if any). We ate on the screen in deck overlooking the water - lovely. It was neat to look at all the stuffed animals and I love my souvenir t-shirt!

If you are looking for an exotic food to try, you should check this place out. You can try snake, snake, squirrel, gator, raccoon, sparrow, tortoise, etc. (See the menu in picture). I tried the special that day, Gator Ribs and I wished I ordered some things else. The meat is fishy and like a tough fish texture. I take the left over and put lot of chili, still can't eat it. The side dishes also not that good. But my friend ordered their burger and enjoyed it. They didn't allowed us to sit outside at first since we didn't make reservations but there were few tables open so when we asked the second time, they moved us. I'm glad we got to sit outside! The have lot of preserved animals inside, it's a bit depressing to see all the snakes around. They have live music outside and we're glad we could see the river as well. We went for lunch on Sunday and arrived at 12.15pm they weren't that busy but after we got our food, looks like almost all tables are full.

Sat out on the patio. The view of the river with the Spanish moss hanging in the trees really sets the tone. Gives old Florida vibes for sure. Lots of taxidermy animals inside the main restaurant area. Pretty cool looking critters. Our server was prompt, kept our drinks filled and had some great menu recommendations. I ordered the shrimp sizzler sautéed in their famous garlic herb butter sauce, with a side of the wasabi mashed potatoes and baked beans. The food had good flavor and was nice and warm when it came to the table. Definitely will be back.

We even got to chat with Eddie the Pitmaster for a couple of minutes, he is the real deal. I love BBQ and to me, there is no such thing as bad BBQ. That said, this was super good. I tried their Beef Brisket Platter and part of their The Pig Mac. With Manny the humanoid pig looking on, we dove in. The brisket was flavorful, no sauce needed. There was plenty of fat and plenty of slices. For my two sides I tried their coleslaw, which was fine, and their cucumber salad. I'm a big flavor guy and love cucumber slices soaked in vinegar. After we had ordered our food another customer stopped by our table and praised their The Pig Mac so much, we added it to our order. What a great recommendation. It is a sandwich with a cheesy patty of mac n' cheese, pulled pork on the side. We even got another side and tried their potato salad made with both white and sweet potatoes. I liked the thinking outside the box potato salad. The pulled pork, like the brisket, stood very well on its own without sauce. The pork topping the cheesy patty just worked so well. We will be back.

I was seated facing a wall so I didn't get a good long look at my surroundings but between what I did see and looking at photos posted on Yelp the theme seems to be chickens. Our server was friendly and available to answer any questions as we spent time looking over the menu. I settled on The Hitman, a double patty smashed burger with American cheese, hen sauce, fried mozzarella, Nueske's bacon, with a side of garlic parm fries. It isn't listed on the online menu but there is a note the menu changes frequently so it may not match the day's offering. Let me start by saying that two of the people at my table got salads and were disappointed that there was too much lettuce and too little other stuff. With that out of the way, let me talk about The Hitman, which I loved. What is Nueske bacon? This is a special smoked flavorful bacon made by the Nueske family. Fork & Hen uses thick cut, and there were two slices on my burger. My burger towered so high there was no hope of picking it up, so I attacked it with knife and fork. Being made with Focaccia bread certainly added to the height, but so did a thick block of mozzzrella cheese. The cheese, melted on the inside and crispy on the outside, was substantial. I would be careful biting into a hot block of melted cheese, think pizza mouth. In my photo I broke into one corner to show that is cheese, so much cheese. The burger patty part topped with American cheese was by itself great, like you might find at a home cookout or Smashburgers. Other toppings were there but for me this was meat and a lot of cheese. And as much bread as you want. I loved my surprising good cheeseburger.

Our table ordered a couple of dishes: chicken and waffles, southern fried chicken, shrimp fried rice, and the hitman. The water tasted like it came straight from the water fountain outside the restaurant. Chicken was overly breaded and salty, and the corn cake was sour. I also don't know how they managed to dry out dark meat. The waffle was semi burnt. The shrimp "fried rice" was soggy, vinegary, almost sushi rice like texture, and shrimp was heavily salted. The hitman smashed burger... the hitman probably killed people with the insane amount of salt on the plate. See the theme? Lighten up on the salt unless you're trying to give your customers clogged arteries. Extremely disappointing considering all the great reviews we saw before going.

We ordered the fried green tomatoes, fried chicken, a vegetable medley that included collards, black eye peas, Gabon beans, and boiled peanuts, and corn bread, which was delicious. I think what took the cake, was the waitress who was obviously having a bad day. We overheard a customer asking how much the cornbread, and she told him, "free because you don't like it!" Oh and when we tried to pay for the food, their credit machine could not read our numbers, so we had to give them three different cards and then received no receipt!! The ambiance reminded me of being at one of my friend's row houses in DC back in the day, so use your imagination. I think this is a place a lot of locals hang out and get better service. This creative twist on eggs Benedict is pure Southern comfort food heaven. Then come two impeccably poached eggs with those runny yolks that ooze out beautifully when you cut in. The whole thing gets smothered in rich, creamy country sausage gravy that's loaded with flavorful sausage bits and has that perfect peppery kick without being overwhelming. We parked and walked the deck to the restaurant, we walked in and were greeted by the host, and were asked if we wanted to sit inside or out, we chose out and were led to a table on the deck, which had a beautiful view of the water, and gave us menus. Our server came and brought us water, we ordered something to drink and perused the menu. There was lots to choose from, and even though I wanted fish, I saw the burger and nearly went with that, but I decided to get the Blackened Mahi sandwich instead, I also ordered the Smoked Mahi Fish Dip as an appetizer. The fish dip came, complete with the prerequisite saltines, which I love, and while the dip was okay, it wasn't great. Not very smoky and too tuna-salady. Still, i enjoyed it, and it was a large portion. My wife ordered a burger, and they bought hers as well as my sandwich. They were both on brioche buns, and I was disappointed that the buns were not toasted- that would've made the sandwiches! My Mahi was okay, good flavor and firm flesh, I wish I had ordered black beans & yellow rice, however, as the fries were not very inspiring. We finished and got the bill, I should've asked before ordering, as the Mahi sandwich was listed as "MP," it was a whopping $28.00! While it was good, it wasn't $30 bucks good, but hey, you're paying for the view. This is a nice place inside, and the view of the water are spectacular but it is a bit pricey in my book. However, our server was awesome, as well as the staff, so I would definitely come back here.
