Linh's has good food but their service has really taken a hit lately. My last two visits during lunch have yielded poor customer service by the wait staff as well as the cashier at the front desk. The wait staff comes by the table one time during the meal to bring your food. If you need your drink refilled, good luck. The cashier barely acknowledges you and seems more concerned about getting the money from the next person than greeting you and asking how your meal was. I guess when your the popular spot in town then you can afford to skimp on the finer details like customer service. I won't be back for lunch anytime soon. It's too bad because their kitchen does a good job but the front of the house needs help. read more

Summer's a weird time for us in quite a few ways. We start off with the whirlwind that is the Origins Game Fair, which is followed almost immediately by both Fathers' Day and my birthday. My birthday actually fell on Father's Day this year, which Jules and I spent at her parents'. Ironically, we spent at least part of that time trying to schedule our next get-together, for Jules' sister's birthday. With all that in mind, Jules and I scrambled out this evening to find Katie a birthday present, and decided to grab dinner somewhere new to us: Linh's Vietnamese Bistro. While I'm fairly well acquainted with food throughout Asia--Indian, Malaysian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Korean--I'd never actually had Vietnamese food before. Jules is a big fan of the iconic Vietnamese dish, 'pho', having become an addict during our trips to Columbus' North Market. But me? No real experience here. Well, that was about to change! Linh's is fairly stark with high ceilings, but has some bright decorations and feels like a welcoming place as you enter. We were seated almost instantly, though service throughout the meal felt somewhat hit or miss. My Coke ran out about halfway through the meal with no refill even offered, but the waitress did inquire as to the quality of my meal in between bites. Both Jules and I elected to order from the Vietnamese half of the menu, as opposed to the Chinese half, which featured mostly classic Chinese-American classics like General Tso's and Sesame Chicken. Jules' dish of rice noodles came out looking gorgeous, covered in sauteed shrimp, crispy roasted pork, and what seemed to be another type of pork wrapped in fried wonton skins. Served with a carrot-rice vinegar, it was a gorgeous bowl of deliciousness that tasted even better than it looked. I opted for the crispy duck, which came out slightly later--the waitress warned me of this, so I didn't mind--on a massive platter. The duck was delectable on its own--well seasoned and fried to a crunch--but I did have a few issues. The duck was served with a garnish of salt and citrus, though the duck was fairly salty on its own and really didn't need this sort of seasoning. A sauce of some sort would have been welcome, perhaps a black pepper sauce or the like? Further, the duck came with plain, steamed sticky rice, with no soy sauce or seasoning anywhere to be had. Blah. Rice noodles or the like would have been more welcome. Overall? I really liked our experience. While I don't know that I'll have the crispy duck again, I do know that I'll be eager to try out some new options at Linh's. Give them a run! read more

Alright my first review on yelp! I've been a closet yelper for a long long time now, but I think it's about time for me to post up some reviews. I've taken advantage of Yelp for too long :) Linh's has always been my go-to Vietnamese Restaurant here in Dayton. I went to Wright State and Linh's was one of the few places near campus to get a really nice HOT lunch for cheap. I always get the #3 Pho Bo Vien and a hot and sour soup and both are usually very delicious and is absolutely the best bowl of Pho you can get anywhere around here. However here also comes my biggest complaint. Linh's suffers from very poor consistency. Sometimes the bowl of Pho comes out steaming hot with all the proper noodles with just the perfect seasoning. Other times though the pho will come out just luke-warm with a bunch of noodles thrown into the bowl like they ran out of the correct ones and the broth will just taste really bland. It has been like this over the course of my many many visits and I haven't figured out why. Is it the time of day that you visit that causes this inconsistency? Or is it a particular day of the week? Anyway besides my gripe about consistency, you still can't beat Linh's in the Dayton area in terms of their food. Definitely a must visit if you're around the area and craving a good bowl of Pho. read more

Went in for lunch today and I was pleasantly surprised. The Pho was perfect and priced just under $7.00. The greens and sprouts were fresh and flavorful. The butterflied chicken appetizer was good. The chicken itself was average but the dipping sauce was sweet with a hint of fish sauce. Yum! The place was small and packed around noon. Servers were constantly busy and I had to flag my waitress down more than once. Despite the rush my server always smiled at me and did her best. My advice, try to visit Linh's during off peak hours. read more

Everything I said in my previous review still stands but I just ate here again yesterday and discovered something yummy that I had to pass along. Get the Pho and drink the broth without any of the meat or noodles. For some reason, it takes on an entirely different, delectable taste. I've been going here quite a bit over the last year or so. I have gotten a few menu items here (all good), but always go back to the pho. It's my favorite and the portions are huge. The broth is always good but never tastes exactly the same. Also, the butterfly chicken on the appetizer's menu is pretty fantastic: thin triangle slices of chicken, fried asian style. read more

Nice place but service is terrible! Why? We went here twice to try their food and came around 8:35pm and they denied us service because they said it is closing soon at 9 pm.. Really? When a customer comes in and it hasn't hit 9, you still have to serve the customer. As it states on the sign. "Closed at 9pm".. So finally we got in at 8:20 pm and I was told that they only accept orders for food to go since they are closing.. I was okay with it. After taking my orders, I paid right away.. 4 people was behind me in line. They took their orders as well and we all waited. One by one those people who were behind me got their orders. 5 minutes to closing and I wondered where my food was. I asked the server, he then went to the kitchen and started asking the crew (who at the moment is busy cleaning up in the kitchen) about my order.. They haven't cooked my food! Their excuse to me is, "sorry about that, someone else handles the vegetables".. Really?! Ugh! The lady at the counter who I think was the owner asked one of the servers if I paid already and I was like thinking to myself, "aren't you the one who swiped my card the moment I ordered? You greedy person!" I was asked to wait in my vehicle while they cook it, and I'm like, " I waited long enough and all the people who were behind me got their orders ahead of me. It won't change anything if I waited in my vehicle besides if I go out you might forget my order again. Greedy people! And oh, the pho they served me have the same broth for beef and chicken.. Real beef pho broth is made out of toasted veal bone marrows for a rich flavor which is simmered for hours or overnight with carrots, onions, peppercorns, and celery and a bit of ginger and then adds the star anise and cinnamon stick in the very end coz' the spice can get strong.. The one I got was with chicken broth and to make it look like it was beef broth they added the slices of beef on top and called it Pho Bo.. Very deceiving. read more

I had the best meal here. Thanks I found it based on all the Yelp reviews. I ordered the weekly special in the clay pot. It was a stir fry of various protiens, they put that is a rocket hot claypot that was lined with good sticky rice. Not the no taste fluffy American crap like at most places. The hot pot crisped the rice that was touching it a bit. So you got this nutty, crunchy rice with the sticky ricey flavor. Very good. I wish I wasn't just visiting or it would be a regular stop for sure. read more

We eat at Linh's on a regular basis and will continue to do so. My favorite is their soup. You can alter the taste to your preference with all of the options Linh's provides. The staff is friendly and their new location is clean and welcoming. I will say I haven't been thrilled with any of the Chinese dishes I have ordered here, but my husband loves them. read more

The spring rolls and the pot stickers were incredible with a dipping sauce that was out of this world! The beef/meatball pho on the other hand was bland. Pho I've had elsewhere had a rich beefy broth and thinly sliced ribeye steak. This broth had much less flavor than what I was expecting but it was better than the beef which flavorless and tough. Dining companions that ordered from the Chinese side of the menu appeared to have much better luck. Also, the portions are immense, so go hungry. read more

The restaurant space is large and nice and the service is good. I've had a lot of good Vietnamese food in my life and this is average or below, in terms of flavor. Perhaps for the area it is the best you can get, but it's certainly not amazing. Still, I'd be willing to give it another try. read more

This place was OK. I thought it was going to be better than what it tasted like since it was so packed during the lunch hour. I ordered a honey chicken dish with fried rice and an egg roll. The chicken tasted very plain, wasn't seasoned at all-- only had the honey glaze for flavor. I had to add salt and pepper on my fried rice as well because there wasn't any flavor. I enjoyed the egg drop soup that came with my order, as well as the tea but other than that, I most likely wouldn't eat here again, at least not during the lunch hour. read more

I was very disappointed with our waitress both times that me and my boyfriend went here. Our Vietnamese selections, specifically the Pho, was very cold and we had to ask for it to be hot. The waitress seemed very angry that we requested a warmer meal, but it's only fair for us - we have to eat it and pay for it! Their General Tso's chicken is probably one of the best in Dayton. When I used to live in Dayton Linh's was where I went with some college friends. It didn't matter that it was a whole in a wall restaurant, the quality of the food was the reason we came here. They have great beef pho and soft vermicelli noodles. Plus the price for lunch seemed very reasonable for some college students. read more

Fast service, pretty good pho. Sometimes the broth is a little bland, but you have many condiments to doctor it up. The chicken vermicelli salad is tasty. One time they were out of basil and we didn't know until the pho was brought out. I wouldn't have ordered pho that day if I'd known that. I would've got the vermicelli salad instead. All in all it's a good modern, clean restaurant with quick service and good Vietnamese/Chinese food in the Dayton area. read more

Food at Linh's is outstanding. The atmosphere is all business and a little obnoxious during the Lunch rush. Vietnamese and Chinese menus are authenticly presented and great... Taking into account that portions are American sized. The fried spring rolls are the best! Soups are the thing here but Stir Fry rocks too! My only negative is the volume inside the building. I eat here approximately once a week with my boyfriend - what a great place! The food is pretty good and the staff is prompt to take orders and deliver meals. If you go there frequently, take a chance to get to know the staff that works there. They're all extremely friendly and fun. They always make the dining experience well rounded. read more

We are fans of the Banh Xeo and also the vermicelli special with everything. We drive up from south of Dayton just for their food so you know we like it. The restaurant itself is not very fancy so probably not good for a special occasion. We have always had good service and they do bring the sauces if you ask. It would disappoint us if they ever closed so I guess they merit a five. read more

Linh's used to be my absolute favorite Asian-food place when it was located a little further down Airway (and I lived in Dayton). We used to eat there constantly and for every special occasion. I also used to get a ton of take out. I was in Dayton last weekend and we got a large takeout order. And I have to say, it really wasn't that great. I was pretty surprised at how much the quality has went down. I got a Tofu with Peapods and Mushroom lunch special. It was mostly peapods and the flavor was just lacking. They included a onion ring on every meal and that was actually pretty good--though a strange addition. I ate a little of it and really wasn't that interested in eating more. I actually threw out my leftovers which I NEVER do. Everyone else thought their food was ok. They did all really like the fresh shrimp spring rolls a lot. My mother had ordered a couple large pho soups as well. One of them had broth so spicy I couldn't eat it. The other has a very odd flavor and I didn't care for it at all. I ate the soup ingredients and skipped the broth. I also had a couple crab rangoon that we perfectly fine--but definitely not as good as I remembered. I would eat at Linh's again, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it, which is sad to me now. read more

Very good Vietnamese restaurant. I had one of their clay pot weekend lunch specials, and the rest of my party had the pho. My meal was quite tasty. I tried some of the pho and, while it was good, it wasn't to the level I've had at some other Vietnamese restaurants. The service is pleasant, albeit somewhat slow. I ordered the #1 Pho lunch special and the soft pork egg rolls as a carry out order. I did not like the rolls. They had no flavor at all and the pork was just dry and gross. The bowl was alright. Not a lot of flavor. If I hadn't used the hot sauce they put in the bag I would not have eaten the meal. The very first thing I noticed as I got in my car was that the food didn't even smell good. This was my very 1st time eating here, & the service was awful. I placed a takeout order at the counter & the girl who took my order seemed like she was irritated that I was bothering her with my being there. Maybe she doesn't work off tips, so politeness doesn't matter to her. IDK But I sat in a chair by the window while I waited for my order to be ready. I watched as a group of 5+ female employees gathered around the front counter and talked intently to each other for the next 10 minutes. When my food came out the girl carrying it from the kitchen to the front counter sat it down on the counter and proceeded to talk to the other girls. I waited for about 5 minutes, not sure if the food in question was MY order, or someone else. Finally another employee asked if I was waiting on a takeout order and offered me the food sitting on the counter. This will likely be the first & last time I ever go to this restaurant. read more

Their noodle soups are just mediocre. I was pretty disappointed in the "bun bo hue" / hot and spicy pork and beef soup. Thought it'd be the safest option since I've had this dish several times elsewhere and I didn't think it could be messed up this badly. I never changed the spiciness level of the broth, but that doesn't mean make it till it burned a hole in my stomach. (Yeah, I had to run to the store to get Pepto after that.) However, it was a large portion and meat plentiful...but it was missing the steam pork rolls "cha lua" so it just wasn't the same. Herb side dish only had tons of bean sprouts, cilantro, and a small sprig of Thai cilantro. My counterpart ordered from the weekly special menu - the claypot rice. The rice was actually fragrant and crispy on the bottom. It had tons of veggies and chicken piled on top in a savory brown sauce. (I swapped the rest of my bun bo hue with his claypot rice. It felt like swallowing fire at that point.) Yes, please make sure to indicate your level of spiciness so it doesn't turn out to be a bowl of lava. read more

I have not yet been to their new location so I cannot comment on that. The service here is pretty much as everyone describes - they pretty much treat you as if you're bothering their evening by dining there but the food comes out fast. I am not a huge fan of the Pho, but they pretty much have a monopoly on it in the area so when I am craving it this is where I go. It is missing a flavor component that I am used to and they also bring out the beef fully cooked and in the broth which is not how I am used to getting my Pho. This is either because a) I got it wrong in the past or b) they do it wrong. Who knows. I am also not a huge fan of their soft rolls but have enjoyed many other items on the menu. My husband also likes the Chinese dishes on the menu as he does not like to venture out and eat Vietnamese dishes. read more

Let me just say, out of all the Vietnamese food I have had, this place is at the top of the list. I have been staying in Sidney the past week and finally had to get out of the town so I ventured down to Dayton. I was skeptical because of the three and a half stars, but I was thoroughly impressed. And my company paid for everything so that made the experience much more enjoyable :) Service- A+ My server was very attentive and came by the appropriate amount of times. Food- A I had the rice paper spring rolls, lemongrass pork kabob, and the beef satay and beef meatball pho. All were wonderful. Pho is one of those things that can easily be screwed up. I'm not Vietnamese and probably wouldn't know terrible pho if it bit me in the ass, but I've had some bad pho (i think) and this was really good. Menu is nice diversity of healthy and not options. Chinese or Vietnamese. Rice or egg noodles... Fresh food. Menu well divided and easy to understand. Just hard to choose!! Some good lunch options. Reasonable prices (less than $10 for lunch) Portions were good-- we cleared our plates but I was full. They were quick to turn over tables and also food came out in a reasonable amount of time. However, service was horrible. No sauces on table. (hot, soy, mustard, sweet&sour). I had to ask five(!) times for a coffee i ordered. Asked three times for mugs for the tea that was brought to the table. Maybe better service when not in the lunch rush, but then again maybe less staff. Been to Linh's twice - once for carryout and once for dining in. Little Saigon is usually our go to joint, but my wife and I had gotten a bit burnt out on the Saigon and had heard pretty decent things about Linh's. Carryout was fine - just got some soft rolls and some noodles to share on a weeknight. Food was good and the sate is definitely spicy, probably a bit more so that Saigon which is fine by me. The soft rolls were very good - probably a bit better than Saigon also. When we ate in not too long ago the place was very busy - we got the last table in the place. A family owned joint, the servers were all young women for the most part and they were running. The atmosphere is a bit nicer than Saigon, and the food is as good at least. The only glitches we had involved service (just a bit slow and not quite attentive enough as others have pointed out), but also the dish my wife ordered. She got a special vegetarian entree that was supposed to have mock duck, veggies, and sate broth. Everything was there, but it featured tofu instead of duck, and at 15 bucks we were not terribly impressed. It was good, but not what we expected. Overall a good Vietnamese joint and we'll have to get back for some different dishes. Maybe best for carryout or for groups of people who may want a little Chinese too as that is also available. read more

Food is good but service absolutely sucks!! I only go for the Pho. While it is good know that your service will probably be beyond terrible. They are extremely slow and rude! You know a little customer service would go a long ways. I still go back for the pho and just expect crappy service. Also, if you wNt a to go order plan on waiting 45 minutes. When I called to place the order they said 20-25 minutes. Once I got there after 20 minutes I waited another 25. Absurd!!!! read more

I have been eating here for years. They moved from a very small place to a much larger place and you still can hardly get a seat at lunch time. This is for good reason. The menus, both Vietnamese and Chinese, are extensive. Both types of foods are excellent. I have tried many, many dishes here and never had one that was bad. My favorite Vietnamese dishes are the Sate Beef soup, Clay Pot Rice, Chicken with Crispy Noodles, Spring Rolls, Iced Coffee. My favorite Chinese dishes are Mala Pork, Amazing Chicken, Orange Beef, Eggroll. The Vietnamese soups (Pho) are what they're known for, and they are brought out with a plate of fresh herbs, sliced limes & jalapeños. Each type is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. The place is clean, and I've usually gotten good service. A few of the servers are less friendly, but they're all efficient. The place is very clean, including the restroom. In winter it can get cold inside. They do have a small patio area for al fresco dining in warm weather. If you desire a weekday lunch here you it's best to arrive by 11am or after 1pm. If you arrive during "regular" lunch hours you'll likely wait for both a table and your food. They are closed Mondays. read more
