My friend ordered the wings but said they had a funny slimy texture so she couldn't finish them. She did like the gyozas though. The dough however was slightly too chewy for my liking and the centre is a bit undercooked. When you try to pick up the slice, gravity starts to do its work and half the slice sags and the cheese topping goes down with it. I was not a fan of the tagliatelle con ragu. I thought I had ordered a pasta with veal in it, but it came across as a vegetarian pasta. I actually tasted a tiny bit of meat in my second last bite. If you are charging $26 for a pasta, please don't be a scrooge with the ingredients. But, what's not acceptable was the fact that the tagliatelle was overcooked while there were a few strands that were undercooked. We did dine in at an odd hour at 4:00pm, but service was definitely a bit slow. It really took the server awhile to acknowledge us and it was only then that she tapped us up with water. Last Saturday, I decided to visit the Brooklin-Whitby area. I had lunch at this Halibut House. This eatery is located in a plaza with a Longo's, Booster juice, COBS Bread, and more. I found a parking spot fairly close to the eatery. I backed my car into the spot and then walked in to this restaurant. The sign said to seat myself. So, I did. I grabbed a booth in a corner, with a window view. My server was Sopheak, who was attentive, communicative, and nice. He came over with a menu and asked if I wanted a drink. I ordered water. I also asked if this place had Coke or Pepsi products. It has both. I went with a Diet Pepsi. I got another one halfway through my meal, as one can wasn't enough. I didn't feel like my usual massive portion of halibut and chips. I suppose that a combination of it being humid outside and my having a large breakfast made me not have a ravenous appetite. On the menu, I was pleased to see a lunch portion of halibut and chips. It also had coleslaw. Perfect! I was fine catching up with a few things on my phone. Sopheak was kind to give me an update on my food. I wasn't in any rush. I did appreciate the status report. My food came. I was so happy to see a smaller portion of everything that I love. I do like the tartar squeeze bottle. It works nicely. I want one at home! The halibut was excellent. It was flaky and yummy, with a crispy, thin batter around it. Delicious! I don't like a huge pile of fries. The fries that I got were the perfect quantity. I ended up dipping them in the tartar sauce instead of having them plain or with ketchup. They were yummy. I loved my coleslaw. It was crispy and tangy. I looked at the apple pie feature. Having a smaller main meant that I could finally squeeze in dessert. You can get apple pie with or without ice cream. I went with the latter. I just wanted something with fruit. The apple pie slice was the perfect portion. It had caramel sauce drizzled on it. I liked that the pie was naturally sweet and the light caramel added a nice flavour dimension to an already excellent slice of pie. Yum! I used the washroom twice. I used it after I had placed my order and before I left. There were three single stalls. The one that I used twice was maintained exceptionally well. I paid with a credit card. I don't frequent Pickering as much as I used to. It was new to me. I flagged checking it out in my head. Last Saturday, I dropped by for a late lunch after completing my errands. My first visit at a Perkins restaurant was in Winnipeg. I loved going there after a midnight shift to get pancakes and more. Sadly, Winnipeg doesn't have any Perkins eateries left. When I lived in the States, there was one Perkins in Rochester, MN. It's still there. I'm so glad. As a resident, I went there for a team lunch and when I was peckish for some breakfast. This eatery is in a plaza. It's next to Shawarma Royale and across from Dairy Queen, which are also new to me. I parked steps away from the entrance. It's wasn't all that busy at 2:30 pm on a Saturday. I walked in. I saw the sign to wait to be seated. I did while taking photos. It didn't take long for a nice woman to come over. She brought me to a booth. I thanked her. This woman wasn't my server, but did get me a Diet Coke. It was a bit off in flavour. I'm not sure if it was the ratio of syrup to carbonated water, or maybe the water. My refill was much better and the carbonation was great. Patricia would end up being my server. She came over and asked if I was ready to order. I was! I got these items: - French toast with scrambled eggs and sausage links - Diet Coke She came over to bring a warm bottle of maple syrup. It was a nice touch. My food didn't take long to arrive. It looked yummy. I thanked her and went to town. The French toast slices were excellent. They had a bit of powdered sugar on top. Not a lot. Just the right amount. I slathered on some butter on each slice and then poured the warm maple syrup on top. Delicious! They were crispy and chewy where they should be. The sausage links were nicely browned and had some nice crispness. Yummy! I liked my scrambled eggs. Perfect! No complaints here. The only downside was that my server didn't really check on me, except for the Diet Coke refill when I was practically done with my meal. She checked on everyone else, which was a bit odd. When I got my drink refill, she gave me my bill. What if I wanted a slice of chocolate french silk pie? You didn't ask. You simply presumed that I was done. I signed up for Perkins rewards. I have some perks that are waiting or me to use. Although Perkins is American, I've noticed that this eatery wants to tell you that it's Canadian-owned. The ketchup in French's, which is Canadian. There's also a huge Canadian flag when you enter this restaurant. I paid at the table. My server gave me the payment machine. I paid with a credit card by tipping and tapping. Done! I used the washroom before I headed home. The washrooms are by the entrance. The women's washroom was clean. The stall that I used was also clean and decent. It's a good Perkins. I love a good deal. I used the app for the first time to order my original burger and customize it. I like that Harvey's has garlic mayo and a ton of veggies. I wanted to use my Scene points. I needed to order a minimum of $5 to be able to use them. I got a regular orange cream shake, which got me to this minimum. It was nice using my points and paying just over $1 for my order. I drove southbound on Markham Road and turned right to get to Harvey's. I was greeted by a seagull and two Canadian geese. All were looking for food. I was, too! At the order area, I spoke with a helpful woman. I indicated that I had a order. She found my name on the order and said that I could pull up to the window. The woman was great. She handed my shake and small paper bag with my burger. I thanked her and drove home. I had the shake on my way home. I do appreciate that the top was sealed with a couple of sticky labels.
