I came to the gym in this plaza, not realizing that it was the same plaza with Lion Supermarket here - what a lucky surprise! This used to be my go-to Lion Supermarket as it was closest to my apt. (Now I usually go to the one closer to work), but then moved and haven't been here in years. I think this is one of the cleaner Lion Supermarket around the area and they usually have what I need in stock. Today, I found a drink packet that I have been looking for at several other stores and haven't had any luck. Awesome! And since it's close to my weekend gym, I will be coming here more often. The parking lot can get tough on weekends, but you can always park a little farther away without too much hassle. Customer service is pretty much the same as at other Lion's - it depends on who you get and what you need. I've had some very nice people try and help me find what I needed and others who just barely do their jobs. You learn who to avoid and it's not too bad. read more

I visited this supermarket for the first tume at around 6:30pm. I haven't been before because it is usually closed and because I mostly cook American food. I was craving boba, so I went in to check if they had any instant frozen boba packets, but the doors were cloudy with condensation and there was no light inside the freezer ice cream section. Its probably there but I was unsuccessful. I did find many pantry can boba options in the drink section. I was happy about that, I tried a taro flavor in a tall can with pearl boba, I'd recommend for quick boba fix. It does smell inside, but its a fish market so....if youre sensitive to smell this is your heads up. Its a huge store with lots of products. Prices are great and I would recommend this place for any or all Asian recipe ingredients because theyll probably have it. They were cleanung the floor with a machine when I was leav8ng around 7pm. Few weeks ago, Hispanic guy from Meat Department was playing with his phone when I asked for shrimp. Today I came back, Another guy was pouring Clorox on something when another guy came to help me for a pound of shrimps. ***Asian guy wearing red hat was very helpful. He started putting in the bag and I asked him to stop Coz I couldn't stand the smell. I'll probably just toss it away, it's probably contaminated. This Lion's market is like any other market. You can find your local Asian necessities in this supermarket. There is nothing special to this place. Don't waste your time or money here. I've been to this Lion many times. I think they have a good selection. It's definitely not the nicest place and it smells bad but the prices are good. I went here today. Since there were no carts outside (there rarely are) I walked in and went to grab a basket. I saw that two women were taking a cart from a line blocking the unused register lanes. I went and grabbed one in the different lane to avoid the women. As I started to go into the store to shop a lady who worked there blocked me and told me I had to take another cart. I asked why and she wouldn't say. She barely spoke English from what I could tell. She just pointed and said that I just had to use the other cart. She started shoving me so I stood firm and raised my voice with a firm "hey." I kept asking why and she said something (I think) about that cart not going outside. I told her that I brought my own bags and I normally carry my groceries to the car so I don't leave a cart in the parking lot. She would not stop so eventually I gave up and grabbed the other cart she was pointing at One of the wheels didn't work so I just gave up and left. I will never go back here. I'm not sure what was going on with this lady who acted so rude, but this place isn't worth going back. Update: I emailed my experience to the store and never heard a response. I dislike going to Asian supermarkets so much. I want to scream and pull my hair out every time I'm at one. Very obnoxiously rude people. I mean very!. The only reason why I go still is because I can't find a lot of these snacks, drinks, and fruits anywhere else. So these 3 stars are solely for their products. This particular Lion's usually always has fresh fruits and vegetables. Seafood section is alright. I love the drink aisle! So many drinks. I especially love the coconut milk drink, I would buy a case of it before but now they come in 6pk so I just buy 2. And 50 other can drinks. That's all I have in my fridge, a variety of Asian drinks! It's more clean and organized than most other Vietnamese markets I've been to. Prices is acceptable! I buy so much and my wallet isn't emptied at the end. That's always really nice. read more

I much prefer this location over the story Rd one. As soon as you walk in it doesn't feel like you're boxed in to go a specific way, it's much more open, the isles are wider and the selection is better. I specifically come here for sprouts, enoki mushroom, I always stock up on the soup base packets because I can't find them anywhere else too. The parking lot is very big though there isn't much shade. This location always has clean isles, they seem to put a lot of effort into the upkeep and it's noticeable. I never notice long lines here, just yesterday when we went as soon as we got into line an employee opened up another cash register and started ringing us up. Overall I would definitely try shopping here, the price point is right, the employees are helpful, and you'll most likely end up leaving with everything do you need and more. read more

This Lion Supermarket is pretty good. Similar to the Saratoga Ave location, it has a clean interrior, veggies, there could be more variety but it is OK for a Lion. Similar to Milpitas, it has a high ceiling at some places, but when you come in the ceiling is lower. Service is OK, it is not too crowded. Not too much ambience in there. I just entered to grab something small to go with my dinner. I came in with my backpack since I just got done with the gym, not knowing that backpacks weren't allowed but the older lady with short hair in customer service let me know to leave my backpack behind. I understand leaving my backpack behind but what's the issue with leaving it inside the customer service area? She lets me know to keep it in the cubby in front of a register where it's obvious no one was working at. I asked her if she would still be at customer service so she's at least nearby. She ignored my question, being rude by telling me the same thing. I would suggest she could fix up her demeanor and answer questions more professionally. She kept telling me "no, leave it there " where she kept telling me to leave it. It would've been simple to just let me know she'll be nearby but she may have mistakenly assumed I wanted to leave it in the customer service area. She brushed off my question in a rude way a few times. All I wanted to know is if she would be in customer service still so she's nearby and my backpack would be safe but instead I got an instant repeated response of telling me no that I can't leave it in customer service. There's a better way to answer customers instead of saying "no, we can't help you if you don't want to place it there." All she had to say is that she would still be in the area she was working at so I know it's safe. This kind of customer service, along with the others I've seen through ratings clearly tells me this is an ongoing issue this place needs to work on. Let's be real, this store is no H-Mart, but they are fairly large in size and stock quite a bit of quality goods at a fair price. I like to shop here whenever I am in search of specialty snacks and ramen items, but for my fresh produce, I'll always hit the farmer's market first. Upon entering the grocery store you'll note the large produce area on the right hand side of the store filled with fresh veggies and fruits. They almost always have an impressive selection of bok choy, broccolini and other green veggies perfect for soups, stir-fry or just steamed. Daikon, ginger, fresh tamarind in its pods are among the unique items found here as well. They have a fish department- where they will clean and fry it for you for free (so you don't have to deal with the mess of cooking and cleaning it at home). There is also a larger at department too. I come here on a regular basis to purchase bok choy, red salted duck eggs, Menlo Lumpia wrappers, jasmine rice, Knorr Sinigang seasoning packets, Mochiko Rice Flour and coconut milk. The lumpia wrappers are found in the frozen food section near the fresh veggies. If you love Filipino lumpia but don't know how to make it- don't worry as they sell the ready to fry version next to the lumpia wrappers (they taste good without all the hard work of rolling them yourself). The entire grocery store is well kept- clean floors and such. Sometimes the meat and fish department have a strong unpleasant odor (be warned). Very cheap market with the usual findings you can get at a Ranch 99. Only but is that smells kind of rancid and old. Maybe I got too spoiled living so close to the newest H-Mart in town and any other Asian market pales in comparison. Still, very cool products at incredible prices and friendly cashiers. Lion Supermarket is the closest asian market to my house. Scratch that. Full-disclosure: It's the cleanest Asian market I'm willing to buy perishables at. The Lion market on Capitol is well-lit, and it's pretty clean as asian markets go. Great spot to buy cheap asian veggies and meats you can't always find at Safeway like oxtail, short ribs, and pork belly. I actually prefer to buy my seafood at Lion vs my regular American grocery store. On my most recent trip I was planning on getting a cooked dungeness, but they were out. I ended up buying a couple of live crabs and cooked them at home. Super easy, btw. The crabs I got at Lion were kind of wimpy at a 1 ¼ pounds each. I much prefer the 2+ pounders. Lion Market doesn't have a built in Chinese deli, but luckily there's Tai Pan right next door if you want to get some BBQ meats. One nice thing about the parking lot is each row is really wide, but be careful; you still have to deal with all of the crazy drivers. read more

I was looking for the brown sugar boba ice cream pops and was saddened to see that they were sold out. Like the shelf where it was supposed to be was empty. A hole to the back of the fridge. As I was heading back towards the exit of the store I decided to double check... maybe some are misplaced on other shelves? I then decided to go ask a worker there. He was a nice friendly uncle. As I approached him and asked for help, he smiled and was slightly shocked that there were no more. He kindly offered to check in the back and came back with a dolly holding 4 inventory boxes full of the boba bars! He opened the first card board box and told me to take it fresh from the box. I happily grabbed a couple boxes, thanked the kind uncle, and went to check out with the other bags of chips in my arms (Calbee Tom yum flavor!) I was one happy camper! I bought 2 packs of instant noodles past the best by date by 2 months - July 2021. Before I made it through the first pack I got food poisoning. They were made in Korea.
