I ultimately ate all of the fries to clear up some room to handle the hot dog. Ended up using a knife and fork because i was making a mess. But both the fries and the dog tasted great. My waitress got me a box before i had to ask, and brought me the check. It was a quick, tasty, pleasant experience.

It arrived with onion rings... 4 of them, from medium down to small. The dog was mostly warm (not hot), but withered like it had been cooking for a while. The meat was placed atop chili that was cold... cold enough to rob the warmth from some spots of the dog. The bun was a soggy mess, and none of the cheese was melted, so it couldn't have been under the heat lamp. It looked fanciful when served, but it was very underwhelming eating compared to past experiences. My wife had the chicken wrap, served with French fries. In a day and age when competitors give out fries like they need to clear an overstocked situation, it was a small handful that would normally be found in a Happy Meal from the famous clown. The wrap itself was shy on the chicken, and heavy on the dressing inside. What used to be a nice place, appears to be sliding downhill, as if the kitchen has given up. If they've checked out, so have we.

It's located next to railroad tracks and embraces the train ambience detailed decor. The dress code is very casual. I was greeted warmly as I entered, and shown to a table. I was pleasantly surprised to not have to wait for a table on a Saturday night, even though they were rather busy. Service was top-notch throughout my visit. And we were even reminded of the "whistle stop" which is when a freight train rolls through unexpectedly and many drinks are half off during that time. It happened once during our 2+ hour visit. This is a barbecue place with many options for carnivores. During Lent season, they have a delicious fish sandwich available. It's really limited options though if you're vegetarian. That may change when they add some Mexican food to the menu soon. I hope. We chose to visit on a night when performer Terrance Wafer was playing. He played known top hits on an acoustic guitar with incredible vocals. We really enjoyed listening to him. I'm already looking forward to returning here.

I ordered the Cod Sub, the Buffalo Chicken Sub, and the Raspberry Chipotle Chicken Sandwich (mine without bacon because of a red meat allergy). While I waited, they offered me a glass of water which was a nice touch. The smell when I opened my food in the truck was AMAZING. I went straight for the Raspberry Chipotle Chicken Sandwich--grilled chicken, cheese, that sweet & tangy chipotle raspberry sauce, all on one of the freshest buns I've had in a long time. Juicy, flavorful, and came with fries that were seasoned just right. Honestly, I wish I had a side of that raspberry chipotle sauce just for the fries because the ones that caught extra sauce were SO good. The other two subs had to wait until I got home that night, but even a few hours later they held up. The Cod Sub was thick, flaky, and perfectly topped. The Buffalo Chicken Sub had good flavor without being overwhelming (and I'm kind of a spice wimp, so if I can handle it, it's definitely on the milder side). And can we talk about the bread? SO good. I don't know if they bake it in-house or get it from somewhere special, but it's not your standard cheap sandwich bread. It really makes the difference. Overall, I'm super impressed. Great food, great service, and clearly a local favorite. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town--probably after my next camping trip. If you live in Washington and haven't tried this place yet, you're missing out. And if you're just passing through on your way to I-44, do yourself a favor and grab a sub to go.
