Local Tap is a bright and airy space, with plenty of seating and TVs. The food menu has sports bar staples like wings, burgers, and nachos but also adds customer favorites such as fish & chips, onion rings, and cheese curds. I had the cheese curds, onion rings, fries, and chicken sandwich which were all very good. The service was great too. Our server checked in with us literally each time she walked by and other servers also checked in as they walked by. I especially liked and appreciated how customers finished dishes were immediately cleared, leaving tables and the space looking organized and clean. Girls trip to a Giants game and got into the city early. Checked into the Luna and went on the hunt for lunch. Found this little corner place that was all we could hope for! Great drink choices and brews, but it was THE FOOD! The best grilled chicken sandwich ever, carnitas tacos, chicken tenders and fries, salad, & onion rings. All pretty common, but this food was really, really good! We actually planned on going back after the game, but the wind and cold was too much. This is a bar for the cheeseheads - an official Packers Everywhere establishment. Went on a Sunday and the Packers game was on half the TVs with audio. There is Packers decor, but also local team gear. The food is slightly elevated bar food, definitely nice for a midday game- get lunch and a beer. Service is friendly they are all over keeping the water filled, filling orders, pouring drinks. If you're a Packers fan in the bay you should be at Local Tap on Sundays. thursday night football- i get it, the place is packed, but when a table opened up at halftime me and my two guests (who are visiting from paris and big packers fans) were happy for the opportunity to sit down and order some food. the table was covered in dirty dishes and empty beer cans from the prior patrons, so i went to the bar to ask if it could be cleared so we'd have space for our own plates after we ordered. the bartender audibly huffed and puffed, asked aloud "are you fucking kidding me ?" and rolled his eyes while continuing to mutter and pout. he came over, took some plates, all while CONTINUING to mumble and eye-roll. after walking off with those, he came back with a rag and spray cleaner and grabbed the rest of the items, while, you guessed it ! continuing to moan and groan. he left the rag and spray bottle, leaving us with a sticky, dirty table, which is fine because after his wildly dramatic performance, there was no way i was going to give this place another one of my dollars. i have never been to a bar/restaurant where an employee was so bothered by being asked to do the bare minimum ! if he had used his eyes to look instead of roll, he might have noticed the menu i grabbed from the bar, but his visible attitude shifted the entire energy at the table and made me too uncomfortable to ask if they had table service or if i should order food at the bar. just all-around embarrassing to be a fully grown human who treats people like they're a nuisance instead of a customer hoping to eat and drink...at a place that serves food and beverages. he never came back to wipe the table (which like, why bother with the theatre of bringing the cleaner over to begin with) and we never went back to the bar to order anything else. people say the french are rude, but my french guests got to see that americans are too, so i guess thanks for the cultural enrichment ? in conclusion: this guy sucks and go bills ! read more

We visit this place every time we are in town for a baseball game for a drink or 3. We make it a frequent stop because the drinks are always good & the service is always great. But last night they truly outdid themselves. We were in town for the My Chemical Romance concert (a well known emo band) and as soon as we walked in we were greeted with emo music playing over the speakers. Talk about appealing to your demographic!! It felt like a community, which exactly what I would expect from any place with "Local" in the name. I haven't been here since the pandemic and back then it was an occasional weekday lunch spot of mine when I worked in the area. Unfortunately, not quite the same experience and the food I ordered was not good. :( My co-worker also did not enjoy his food. [Service] Once our food was delivered, we were left alone pretty much the whole time. It would have been nice to get more water but by the time someone came around we were already done. There weren't too many customers but they just seemed busy so we weren't even able to flag anyone down. It was also clear no one was coming to pick up our check/card so I just walked up to the bar to pay. [Fish & Chips] I used to love the fries here - they're the long skinny ones! Mine were some long ones on a pile of a bunch of broken ones...looked like I got the last of the bag or something. The fries were also not freshly fried...just kinda warm. As for the fish, there were three little pieces. The batter was light and crispy, but the fish was a bit gummy and weird tasting. Overall, this meal did not slap! This return visit was not great, but I'd probably still come back to try other items on the menu. I remember the fried cheese curds being really good so we shall see next time! Pros: this is an awesome dive bar with friendly enough service. Cons: deceptive pricing practices. Experience: I was pretty excited to find a place with decent happy hour pricing (ex: cheese curds for $7 and the fried combo platter for $13). I wasn't provided a menu, so I showed the sole bartender what I wanted on the site. The food came and was the wrong order (cheese curds and the house made hummus plate). Mistakes happen, so no worries. Unfortunately, when the bill came, I was charged $15 for the cheese curds and $20 for the fried combo platter. Additionally, there was an additional SF mandate of 5%. I asked the server (who just hopped on shift) why the pricing was so high, and she confirmed that the happy hour time was right, but that the pricing on the website was wrong. Then she told me she would tell the owner, and left. What should've been an easy afternoon experience was now made a little bitter by these deceptive pricing practices. We thought we were coming for a drink after the game and wow, the father daughter duo (Morgan and Peter) verbally attacked the patrons. They threatened them to fight and they were clearly drunk and/or on drugs. Prior to any of this, we watched other customers "lose" their credit card and chalked it up as a misunderstanding, but then watched how they interacted with others and were beyond taken aback. They even were egging each other on to try and fight two guests to fight outside. We felt like we were part of a circus and that we were being punk'd, but they legitimately were not in the right state of mind and on some sort of power trip. We started with the Mia's Pretzel Bites (A basket of freshly baked Bavarian pretzels served with queso sauce and honey mustard). They were hot and soft. I really liked the honey mustard too. For lunch I ordered the Buffalo Fried Chicken Sandwich (Bleu cheese dressing, arugula, red onions, on ciabatta bread) with extra blue cheese on the side. Wow, I was not expecting for it to be that good but it was. The chicken was cooked perfect and it had the right amount of blue cheese and hot sauce. Didn't expect it, but the food here is quite good. Got myself the fried cheese curds and cobb salad, and I'm so thankful the barista asked me if I wanted a half portion of the cheese curds because I didn't even know that was an option. And looking at all the pictures avaliable, the full portion would've been massive. I must say, the marinara sauce that comes with the cheese curds is probably the best marinara I've tasted; granted I haven't had a lot to compare. And the salad had tons of toppings that included chopped chicken, bacon, eggs, blue cheese, and avocado. The raspberry vinagrette was delicious! It really brought the whole salad together. Compliments to the chef! Although it got a bit salty at the end since that's where all my bacon ended up. I was also impressed that the chicken stayed warm throughout my meal. It was Tuesday Taco Night so why not go for it. But I must say, the five dollars a pop per street taco seemed a bit much once I saw it wasn't much bigger than the little silver dollar sized ones, which they usually sell in threes at other typical taco nights. I ordered a steak taco and the chicken taco, and both of these were unfortunately pretty nondescript and dry. The three dollar can of Modelo was nice, though, for Happy Hour, which was 4 PM to 7 PM on nights when the Giants are not in town. Also had the Philly Cheesesteak, which was soft and tender, but I couldn't get over their unique spin on it with the melt of pepper jack cheese, making it quite spicy and overwhelming the flavor of the steak. The bartender, who also did double duty as the server, was tremendous though and earns Local Tap my four stars. He noticed I was still recovering from a knee injury, so he actually brought out the menu and took my order, so I didn't have to hobble over to the bar to do it. He also had a great, deferential attitude and was pleasantly persistent in making sure we had everything we needed. It's obviously a Giants water hole, being just a few blocks down from Oracle Park. But being here instead to watch the Warriors season opener, in which they satisfyingly knocked off the Lakers, it was surprising to see quite a few other Dubs fans, who were whooping it up with us at the big screens. Because we were in SOMA, there was actually a sizable group of tech bros and sis's who were just there to revel in that they were now done with coding. Local Tap is smallish for a sports bar, but they also have a pretty big parklet outside where there're actually some big screens hooked up on the walls, so you can sports bar outdoors as well. On the Soundprint app, it registered at 102 decibels, which is quite high, so a word of caution. Fyi, it's mostly street parking. read more
