30 beers on tap. That's good beer at that. Stumbled on Liquid Gold a few months back and it's a lovely spot to grab a pint and discover some new brewskis while you're at it. Tried some new pints from dependable brewers like St. Archer and Half Moon Bay but also was pleasantly surprised by the the blood orange gose that was like a wheat ale with citrus tartness and a slight pinch of saltiness. They have happy hour plus you can also get flights of beers (1-5 beers at $3/5oz for most beers sans a few) to increase your sampling pleasure here. Service is friendly and you'll meet local regulars at happy hour time. Not much for food except some popcorn but feel free to have beer for dinner. They have an amazing selection - I'm usually a stout guy and they have great, harder-to-find stouts like Bottle Logic (not easy to find in SF!) but even their IPA selection makes me happy (specifically Humble Sea and Equilibrium)! YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2017: 8/100. THIRD OF FIVE SPOTS FOR NYE! Hubbers and I continued our quest for random NYE bar stops and decided to walk up this street from O'Farrell. Whoa, those hills! Hubbers and I certainly felt like we had a workout of some sort! We walked by this place, did a double take, stopped, then decided, "Eh. Why not?!" I let Hubbers decide on our drinks. It was a good change from the first couple of spots we went to. There wasn't a crowd and it was pretty chill. I guess you can say this was our eye of the (NYE BARHOP) storm. I work in the neighborhood and have never been more impressed about the atmosphere and CUSTOMER SERVICE this brewery provides! I have been to my fair share of breweries from half moon bay, Pacifica, to SF and so on and so forth! Despite the small handful of low reviews, I say CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF! I stumbled upon this place trying to find my way around Lower Nob Hill and I have become a REGULAR! Breweries/Tap rooms are supposed to be simple. Not your average BAR environment that can get overcrowded, noisy, not being able to grasp the bartenders attention - this place is the complete opposite which is why I enjoy coming here! Such a friendly environment all around and EVERY bartender -- specifically Sam, Peter, Melissa & Sebastian have always made me feel welcome as I come here on most weeks 5 days out of the week because of how incredibly genuine they are individually and even more so when they work together. Their selection of beer is a BONUS! I am never disappointed when looking for a new taste in beer to try. Because they have such good beers on tap, they do go through them pretty quickly and Sam, Melissa & Peter always help me pick out a new beer that they think I'd like from previous interactions and I always end up grabbing a 9oz of whatever they pick! Had a beer here before a show at the Masonic. Well, had a flight, I should say. Really appreciated that I could choose any beers for my flight. I'm a stout fan so when I'm forced into an IPA or anything else, really, just so I can get that last selection in the flight of a stout, it ticks me off. They do a good job of keeping beers rotating in, which you can watch on their live board, as happened when they ran out of one stout and replaced it with another. There wasn't any whale-of-a-stout that night, but it was just mid-November, so I would hope for more interesting offerings to come soon. The service was fine - friendly, to be sure, but not gonna be besties with anyone working here. The atmosphere is also just fine - not spectacular - just fine. Came on a Wed night around 630 and place was busy but able to find 2 seats just fine. By 830 it was pretty empty. Tried several beers because the bartender was super cool and friendly and wanted you to love your beer. I had a milkshake IPA (very surprised I loved it so much) and then a sour that was delicious. Since I've moved down to the Peninsula I haven't been coming in as often as I'd like, but still need to support them through these crazy Corona times. I have to admit, I thought it might be a bit more pretentious than it turned out to be - I keep forgetting that we are SF, and we are a welcoming culture. This is a good beer-centric Tap Room that is focusing on diversity and novelty.. 30 Brews On-Tap, and a good range of selections. I like the lay-out of the space. There is a deep space that has good flow. There is room for a few people to a good-sized crowd as it get's more popular. Their service was excellent. I went off of recommendations for my 4-Beer Flight. All good. There is a good vibe here - it is born out of a love for beer and a desire to share a lot of interesting options. I told the gent I talked to tonight that I LOVE a place that has things that I haven't tried. They have a lot of interesting stuff, and aim to bring in more. They also have an extensive Off-Sale Bottle selection. 60-80. They aim to get unique stuff. If you liked Beer Hall and Hopwater Distribution, this is of that vein, and this is the new kid. Three times still a charm!! First visit, came here to watch game #7 of the World Series. The intense then jubilant atmosphere was like nothing I've ever experienced, add to that, friendly knowledgable staff serving 30 locally brewed beers and selected wines. Champagne was pouring the second Giants took the championship with a 3-2 win, CLASS! You ask, what can beat that? Well.... 2nd visit, 3 pm on a Monday afternoon! The owner, Tim Lee greeted me warmly. He was with a sales rep introducing selected wines from a winery in Paso Robles. Being one of a few patrons in the bar (door just opened), Tim asked if I would like to participate in doing some tasting of the wines the sales rep brought. An offer I cannot refuse! I love wine!! I got to taste one of their rare Chardonnay they sell on tap, a Cabernet and Sangiovese. All delicious and tasty! I hope Liquid Gold will be serving these wines in the future. 3rd visit, Friday night, me and a couple of girlfriends came here to have a few beers and wine before dinner. They each had 2 beer flights. A tasting of 4 different beers suggested by the knowledgeable staff depending on your taste. I had their Cellars 33 Chardonnay on tap. Loved it! They even had a bubbly on the menu that night. All tasty and delicious. I love the comfort of the bar. Although I prefer the bar seats, they also offer a cozy couch and a long table with bench seating for bigger groups. The vibrant atmosphere and decors from a map of San Francisco, "415" area code sign, to the black and white photos along the long wall of the bar gives it a "homey" feeling! Liquid Gold also offers "to go" beers. They carry a huge selection of rare and specialty beers in their large refrigerator located in the back of the bar. Notes: Yay: - Ale industries Cherry Kush: a smooth, well-balanced fruit beer, better than the other fruity ones available. (And yes we tried them all!) - Moonlight Reality Czech: yes, it's famous already... really tasty pilsner. - Cismontane Belgian Dubbel: I don't usually go for the Belgians named multiples (multipels?) but this one was smooth and Chimayesque. - Heretic Chocolate Hazelnut porter: neither of us tasted chocolate or hazelnuts... instead we got a strong taste of coffee - in a really well balanced beer. Meh: - Dogfish Head black and blue: way too funk / sharp for me. - Almanac Farmer's reserve strawberry: not much taste other than overwhelming sourness - kind of like kombucha - Altamont berry white: just OK, not a good balance of berry - Berryessa Propaganda Pils - Stillwater Stateside: Hoegaarden-y - Evil Twin Soft dk: it supposedly had vanilla but we mostly tasted the high alcohol content - 10.4% in an "imperial" stout. Great beer selection in a laid back environment! Bartenders are engaging and helpful in getting you something you might like from their extensive selection of beers on tap. They have many local beers to the area which is cool too! The menu is also well organized so you can find what you like easily, and you can order by a number system which simplifies things. The ambience is pretty good too. It is basically a small place dominated by a long bar, with some tables in front and back. It's not too loud for you to have a conversation, but it is lively and busy! They don't have food but you can order takeout from places around the area and eat it there, which many people were doing. There's also a section of beers you can browse to take home. They have some wine available, but no liquor license, so I wouldn't recommend trying to take anyone here who doesn't like beer. Walked in to purchase beer to go (they have a fridge) at 7.42 pm Sunday, and this quasi hipster wannabe guy says we're "closed" . Boss, your website says you close at 8 on Sundays. Get your timings straight! There were probably 10 drinking at the bar by the way. A neighborhood client looked up your timings, made effort to walk to you (with 18 mins to spare) to spend quick $50 to grab beer to go, let you know it's just to go, and you didn't have the decency to do your basic job for which you're being paid? The only way I can think of to describe what I just experienced is to write about it. I'd call them but they're too busy. I looked up a few other sites like Twitter and Instagram but alas they can't do it justice. So I turn to Yelp. I am not a regular at Liquid Gold but I stop in when I spot something interesting on their awesome tap list which is updated every day. Stopped in tonight for a Ballast Point tap takeover and Game 3 of the Warriors playoffs. Thoroughly enjoyed my flights of Ballast Point and some other amazing IPAs I've never heard of. Natalie (co owner) asked me if I'd tried the BBQ being offered by the door. I told her no and was not planning on trying it but decided I had no better options before I headed home so I decided to go for it. The lady who cooks it is really nice. She loaded up a to go plate for me that must have weighed 4 lbs. When I got home I took my first bite and had a true foodgasm. This was, without a doubt, the best BBQ I've ever had. I have not been to Texas and tried places like the Salt Lick or other highly rated Q places, but this must be as good. Everything was cooked absolutely perfect. You can taste the vinegar, sugar and whatever else is used in just the perfect amounts in each bite. Not too sweet, not too sour, just amazing. I had ribs, chicken, brisket, beans and collard greens. Even the greens had bits of meat in it which must be something you only see in the South because I've never seen it here. Ham hocks they may have been and man oh man was that good. Shout out to LG: whoever she is needs her own restaurant. That was better than 4505 by far. read more

I loved visiting this beer bar during my trip! They have a very well-organized menu that breaks up their beers into their types/flavors which I always appreciate. They let you try the beers before buying them or making you get a flight, which is also a plus! We grabbed the couch so we could watch the basketball game comfortably. They have tons of games such as Connect 4, Battleship, Cards Against Humanity, etc. Liquid Gold also has a fridge in the back filled with bottled beers and ciders that you can buy for a small extra opening fee, I think about a dollar. read more

**BEWARE** Liquid Gold is no longer offering drink flights. Yes, you read that correctly. A business that bills themselves a Tap Room is refusing to allow customers to pay to sample their beers. The really sad thing is that this place should be getting a 5 star review. In fact, if this review had been written before COVID, that's exactly what I would have given it. (Not to worry - I would've updated the review with this one anyway) It's nice and clean inside, dog friendly, and they have a large rotating selection of all different types of beer. Like, really large. As in 25-30 beers on tap at any given time kind of large. I love beer, and I visit breweries and tap rooms in the city all the time. I live in the neighborhood, so I was thrilled when Liquid Gold opened and used to go there quite a bit. With all of those beers I would usually go through at least 2 flights before I would settle on "the one" to drink for the afternoon. I was excited to go back after CA fully reopened, and even went online and saw about a dozen beers I wanted to try. Then I get there and the bartender tells me they no longer offer drink flights!?! Are you guys insane?!?! You expect me to pay full price for full pours on several beers and I'm SOL if I don't like any of them? He said they "might be offering small pours sometime in the future". Really? So you "might" offer a second way to rip your customers off? Small pours are generally 5-6oz. They are for restauarants, so people who don't want a full beer can still have one with their food. I don't need an extra 2-3 ounces, at an additional charge, to find out if I like the beer or not. 3oz tasters at $3ea are perfect, which is why every other brewery and tap room in the city offers them. The price isn't even really the issue. I know COVID really screwed things up for businesses and I'd be willing to pay a little more just to help out, especially to a place like this. But offering up a selection like that and refusing to let people pay to sample them is beyond ridiculous. I completely understand why they would put drink flights on pause during the lock downs. It's not practical to make a bartender carry them inside and outside all day long. But now? I actually waited a few weeks to write this review. I wanted to make sure I wasn't overreacting, and take some time and see if I was missing something. Well, in that time I have been to several other breweries, and talked with a couple of dozen people about it, and it turns out I'm not alone in my anger/confusion. I got a variety of responses, and not one of them was good, nor could anyone come up with a logical reason for them doing this. Wake up guys. You're not a regular bar, with selections like Bud, Anchor, Shiner Bock and Racer 5 on tap. I just looked at your website and you have 29 beers on tap (I'm not counting the 2 ciders), none of which can be found anywhere in the neighborhood, and many that likely can't be found anywhere else in the city. This used to be one of my top 5 places in the city to visit, and I would recommend it all the time. I was so happy that you were able to survive the lock down, but now I will be steering people away any time the subject of beer comes up. There are plenty of other places in the city that actually understand the type of business they run and don't force their customers to pay for full pours for beers they've never heard of. My friend had some guinness (I prefer the pale ales, the ciders and the stellas over dark beer and I sometimes view dark beer the same way I view keystone light) and I tried a little bit. Again, I do not like dark beers. I stuck with my cider and my bohemian nectar, one glass each. They went together well. Liquid Gold is a nice little craft beer spot in an area where I don't visit much. It being so close to Polk I didn't really expect much. Kind of small and dark, they have a pretty diverse bottle selection in the way back that's nicely sorted by beer type. There's also a decent selection of local brews on tap. I've been seeing more and more Bay Area brews on taps around the city so it's good to see that diversity. It was quiet when we were there so we just settled down with our beers and had a nice game of Battleship. Chill neighborhood craft beer bar. If I lived in the area it'd probably be my go to spot. What made my experience so GREAT though was that the back was filled with kegs and boxes of beer. Why is this great you ask?? I'll tell you why. For the first time in years, I managed to get my hands on a CASE of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. I've tried looking for it in Chicago, I've tried looking for it around the city and I've never been lucky enough though maybe I haven't tried hard enough shrug. Oh, I've had it on taps during beer week etc. but never actual bottles! I saw the boxes against the wall behind me and asked the bartender and he casually said yeah, the boxes are full.
