First let me say that for a surprisingly small venue they get a lot of great talent in on a regular basis. That being said, the sound system is trash. It's literally been months since the one speaker on the stage has been broken and nothing has been done about it. Also, what they have of a sound system is geared mostly and directly towards VIP with almost nothing left for the GA. When you are in front and center of the stage you can hear people talking louder than the music you are listening to. Just talking. Not yelling or screaming. Even with all the sound that should be happening around you, it's like basic apartment level speaker volume that you can talk normally and hear yourself over. Think about that. read more

Liquid is really fun to go to when there are events going on during the year! if there is an artist that you want to see the space is perfect for it. I think they do a really good job making it a fun event for all and making sure it is a safe environment. The staff is friendly and drinks are good. This places sucks. My biggest problem is that the staff here are actually horrendous. The bartenders were outright rude to me and my friends and could not make a decent drink to save a life. How hard is it to not f up a vodka soda with lime? Also talk about pricey drinks. Why are you charging $13 for a vodka soda?? This is madison not New York City. Additionally, I appreciate that they have 'security' but the only thing they did was gawk at college girls dancing. Maybe hire people who don't look like pedafiles? As someone who works in the service industry, I feel like having good customer service skills is one of and if not the most important part of the job and this place fails on all fronts when it comes to that. The venue is really sick and some super cool artists go here. I will say the security is on ass about everything tho. They won't let you sit anywhere which is really disappointing especially for the longer shows. Overall, decent time at this venue the artist is really what made it memorable. read more

If I could rate this place a zero 100% would. It's not like the prices aren't good or anything, it's the security. They literally treat you like an object and just do whatever they want to who they want because they believe they deal with enough. Again if these people can't handle their jobs or their "customers" find a new job. He's personally taking action to better his business and I can 100% admire that. That's already a great step keep this place going on a great note as their club was amazing. This place is trying to fill the gap of a big city dance club, and fails on all accounts. Drinks are expensive, poorly made, served in plastic cups with a lot of ice. Male bartenders ignore men who want to order drinks, so we ask women to order. Cement floors are sticky, no place to sit. Bathrooms were disgusting. There were a number of underage (17 to 21) people drinking with no problem. Crowd control was poor, late in night started wondering about safety issues. Surprising, since they wanted to take photos when you enter the club. They told me my suit top was a jacket, and I had to take it off and pay $5. There are other wierd and inconsistant rules for dress code, centered around target black customers to keep them out. No baggy pants? Let's keep out people of color while we play latin music and hip hop. It's too bad Yelp makes you give one star just to rate something. It's unearned in this case. read more

The more I EDM the more I hate Liquid. When I was new to the scene I enjoyed shows at Liquid but now that I've been to lots of shows at lots of venues Liquid has fallen to the bottom of my "favorite places to see a show" list. I will say on the plus side that they bring in top-level names in dance music. But that's about where my compliments end. My top complaints: -Same light show every time. No haze/atmosphere to actually see the light beams - it's almost pointless to have moving light fixtures without atmospheric haze. I know their fire alarm system is supposedly set off by it but, you're a club for Christ's sake, figure out how to have a fire alarm that allows for haze. -I don't think I've seen any new equipment on their lighting and video rig since I first visited 5 years ago. -Touring acts seldom bring much of any production: there must be some type of "just show up with your jump drive" booking that allows them to get big names for minimal money. It's not doing it for me anymore. -Awkward dance floor. The size and shape just suck. People can't move in and out. For most shows, you can't get from the far side to the bathrooms without shoving your way through - not unless the upstairs bar is open. -VIP. I thought we were done with that in Madison...move to a couple little VIP sections by the bars on the side if you must keep VIP, but that real estate has to be part of the GA dance floor. -No beer on tap. -No way to buy tickets without fees. I will go here when friends want to or if there's an artist I REALLY want to see. Otherwise, I'm not looking for opportunities to go to Liquid. read more

Updating this after our most recent visit. One of my friends got bottle service (our first time getting VIP here) for our group and honestly if you plan on drinking A LOT at the club, I think this might be the better way to go. It was definitely a lot more convenient than having to stand at the bar with a ton of other people, and if you need a break from how hectic things get on the main floor, this is a good option. If you feel like treating yourself or have some friends who feel like treating you, consider it. A couple of bad/inconvenient experiences for this particular night: I feel like this place is kind of inconsistent with their rules. I've come here before on certain nights where they will let you wear a leather jacket/light jacket inside, but this last time they made everyone pay for coat check. It didn't seem any busier than previous nights that I've been here so I'm not really sure why they did that. At some point in the night I ended up ordering drinks at the bars. The female bartender who was working the lower bar near the dance floor was very pleasant and took care of us surprisingly fast! However, when I ordered drinks at the upper bar, the male bartender we had was EXTREMELY rude. He asked my group to show our wristbands (multiple times) and threatened to kick us out (multiple times) and kept saying we were minors/giving our drinks to minors. First off, everyone in my group was at least 22/23, none of us were minors. Second, if it's that big of a deal to you and you don't believe our ages, then just check our ID's instead of repeating yourself and threatening to kick us out. This particular night, I did see several people get kicked out for being too drunk. However, I think the crowd control could have been a lot better. Two of my friends got thrown up on, and there were definitely a lot of other people who were probably too drunk to be there. Security at the door was good and they did deny some people from coming in, but inside it was for the most part a free for all. Despite these annoyances (some of them bigger than others), I will say the music was poppin and the night was still fun. P.S. Unlike my previous review, the women's restroom was really clean this time! So +1 star for that! read more

Forced coat check even though it was FREEZING in there. They take everyone's picture to get in, which is a ridiculous privacy violation. At the show I was at, some guy in the VIP area pulled out a bottle of champagne and dumped it all over the crowd in front -- twice. Security did nothing even though I saw a ton of people complain. Well I have never been there when it was open but I was scheduled for an interview a few years back when they first changed from Segrados and the owners never showed up for the interview, or even gave me a call back explaining what happened. I drove from West Bend for the interview because I was thinking of moving to Madison. This is an hour and a half drive. I was not pleased to say the least. One star is too generous for this garbage dump of a "nightclub". Walk up and get our ID's checked and allowed in. You walk up to this counter where they scan your ID and collect your money. Let me tell this was the biggest waste of $10. We happened to go on a event night where they had glow sticks -- well the ones they gave us did not even light up like a glow stick should. When we actually get in the first thing you experience is a sticky floor and an empty dance floor. There was a couple on the floor who were basically dry humping each other and constantly lifting up each other's shirts. It was highly uncomfortable. This place had no seating and when asked they said it's only for VIP and that's an additional $15. We decided to leave and before we left we asked the guys at the counter for a refund because we were there for maybe 20 mins max. We got told "it's like paying for a movie" so you don't get refunds... Paying to watch a crappy movie would have been better than experiencing this trash place. Never again will I return. Every single time I have been in liquid has been absolute rock bottom. When you first walk in the door you are promptly met with military base level security. They scan your ID, take a photo of you and i can only assume that they also hack your phone and implant a microchip in your brain. Every step on the sticky cement floor is a struggle as you desperately try to lift your feet off the ground without leaving a shoe behind. I had to hand over the deed to my house to get a plastic dixie cup of mixed drink, filled to the brim with ice- not to mention that I had already sold my first born son to pay the cover fee at the door. The dance floor is either deserted with tumbleweeds blowing across or an absolute endless sea of sweaty drunk men, there is no in between. The lavish VIP area is set up nearby, taunting you with the fact that you are already in crippling debt and can not afford such a luxury. You will leave liquid without a penny to your name, feeling as though you just made a deal with the devil to escape hell. Would probably not recommend. read more

We went to Liquid on Saturday night for a friend's birthday. We were in VIP and had an amazing time. The young brunette woman who was taking care of us was amazing, unfortunately I forgot her name but she is truly an asset to her employer and hopefully they will read this. This was my first experience here and all I can say is, it was crowded. The security was very nice and helpful but the dance floor is small and tight. People are very pushy and rude. There is no room for dancing so I practically just watched the whole show and could not enjoy it. They put a good amount of drink in your cup though and the bartenders were nice. read more

I had bought tickets to one of the shows, which a friend of mine was driving 3 hours to come visit and to go to this club with me and another friend. We drove an hour to Madison to see a post on the door stating that the club was closed. I had not received an email, phone call, nothing. I called and the guy told me that they would be refunding us in 2-3 business days, and said that the D.J was going to be at the Ruby Lounge next door. We waited till 10 to find out that my friends could not get in because they were under 21. We drove all that way for nothing. Also, I have not received my refund and it has been 2 weeks. I am upset with how they handled this situation. Can't tell you how the club is because they closed unexpectedly. read more

This place is a disgrace of a venue. Their management is terrible, their drinks are overpriced, and booking events with them is hazardous. They screw you over with bar minimums and will switch locations inside the club on you literally the day of your event with nothing but "I'm sorry" as an excuse. The only reason liquid gets business is because they enjoy a monopoly for nightclubs in downtown Madison. Every weekend, there are fights outside the club. Talk about maintaining safety for patrons. On top of all this, there are rumors of drug dealing going on within the staff. Smells like a money laundering operation if anything. Oh, and I've heard too many stories of people being drugged within the club. There's a million bars for college kids and other townies to go to in Madison yet liquid can't seem to keep their patrons safe. If you want to support a poorly run, dishonest business then go to this place. Good riddance. read more
