After glancing at Yelp photos, the 20 % off Yelp check in caught my eye, and the funny t-shirts, the ones on their profile pic. I asked my personal Uber driver ( my other half) to take me. You will not miss this place, there is a huge business sign and parking is available on both sides of the lot. I don't know where to begin looking, the store is clutter but it is a good clutter. There are tons and tons of stuff. Its like a one stop shop, Things you need in Chinatown and the flea market combined together. I am pretty sure you will find something you don't need but actually need here. Just like my experience here. I had fun looking around, Lets see this shop is HUGE! There are sandals, shoes, clothing for mens, womens, children, tshirts, hats, make up, hair accessories, phone accessories, even blankets. If you can't find what you are looking for, ask the owner, she is super friendly. I recall her name is Long. I had fun talking to her and she helped me find what I was looking for. As I mentioned I found 2 items that I didn't need but needed. I saw 2 hats , I didn't think I needed it but bought it for my mom and good friend. ( they both love hats!) I came to shop not looking for hats and not needing it but then I am so glad I bought them because my mom and good friend loved the hats. I also bought those funny saying shirts to give away as souvenirs. They are pretty funny! I was able to use my 20 percent Yelp check in and I am so happy to discover a new place in Portland. I noticed the blankets are cheap, they are the really soft blankets which comes in different color, prints, and even comes with a bag. I remember those blankets, during my childhood days my mom used to buy that blanket for us and I remember they cost more than what Portland Closeout sells them for. I am going to buy a blanket next time I visit. After paying for my items, Long mentioned that her husband is at the store across. Note: Portland Closeout is in 2 separate shop. The store is in front where Long's husband manage has all household items for your kitchen, home and garden which includes furniture, plants, even paintings. This store does look clutter as well, but its a good clutter!! I noticed children's bicycles out in front. This store has EVERYTHING!! It was Wednesday night, and I must say, the cashier I spoke to was phenomenal. I was having a terrible day. This may be tmi but the visit was spurred on by my grandmothers death, and I was in a very bad mood on Wednesday night. I came in just to buy an energy drink. And just the energy that cashier gave. She was incredibly respectful, a little jokey. It just brought some light to my night that was goin so terribly. I went to a couple dollar trees and similar stores on my trip, but that was suprisingly the highlight. I didn't catch her name but it appeared she was the only cashier working. Since I was already there, I ventured through. Huge bags of shredded carrots, prepackaged bags of chopped salads and other produce nearing expiration date for just a $1. I grabbed two. Containers of cut up watermelon, cantaloupe as well as whole bananas and other produce very cheap. Picked up an onion to use for that night's dinner. Didn't want to buy anything I couldn't use immediately as these veggies are a day or two away from going bad. Shelves and carts filled with canned pantry items, cereals, breakfast bars all nearing expiration - good for families that go through these items weekly. By the checkout there were some Chocolove and Theo chocolate bars. These are high end chocolate bars that usually sell for $3.99 a bar and here they were just a $1 with an expiration of Dec 2021 so I picked up two. That alone was worth the stop! Items move fast which is why the store is in a constant stage of unpacking. Huge outdoor area with produce located close to street - don't forget to check it out. In addition to produce they had 6 packs of bottled water, huge containers of pretzels, bags of dog food and other items.. Very random, no rhyme or reason, seems like items are placed where there is room. Friendly owner and staff, everyone chatting with everyone; clearly there are lots of regulars. They take credit cards. Parking out front. I missed the turn into the lot so parked around the corner by the Goodwill and walked over. This store is exactly what it is. A market that takes in items close to expiration and liquidates on the cheap. It's not New Seasons! So as long as you set your expectations and you have a need for these type of items, it's all good. There are no other stores in town that are so affordable, not even close. So, they're providing an important service. But if you choose to visit around this time, know that the employees there could really use your kind words and your support, because they very recently trapped inside the store with an active shooter, who entered the establishment to attack a person they knew. Many shots were fired, and the young guy they were after was shot in both of his legs. Some of us went into the back by the loading dock to avoid the shooter and to help the victim remain calm, because he was terrified. Shoppers and employees looked for places to hide and be quiet, hoping not to get shot. I was a bit traumatized from the experience myself, but I had to go back and check to see how the employees who were there that day were doing, and they were all traumatized. One very nice woman who usually cashiers at the front of the store told me that she was scared to work there anymore and had given her notice. This isn't the business's fault, that some random kids decided to follow someone they were after into this store. They still deserve support for the service they provide helping the poorest of the poor to survive on what little money they have. And to be sure, this isn't a normal occurrence there. Usually, shopping there is a good experience, with employees and other shoppers being peaceful and polite with each other, so please do give them your business... and as I said, if you encounter employees who were there on the day of the shooting, ask them how they're doing and offer as much positive energy as you can. It's very strange that after the people in this store were traumatized by this shooting, yet it still has never been mentioned in the news...
