Little Bird Dim Sum is a very nice place to eat tasty dim sums if you are near Kits. or Jericho beach. Lots of options to choose from. I really liked the sticky rice and sesame prawn toasts. Also a good option the fried garlic squid, it's lightly breaded so it doesn't feel heavy to eat. The BBQ pork bun were too much for me. The taste is nice but too much dough so I didn't enjoy it that much. The siu mai and cilantro shrimps dumplings were good. I have had better at other restaurants but those are still enjoyable. They are quite big so it's a generous portions, maybe better for people who like a bigger meals. Everything is great to share. Service is good. Prices are very decent for Vancouver especially since the restaurant is on the Michelin 2025 bib gourmand. read more

I've been here twice and tried a good variety of dishes. Overall, I've found that all the steamed dim sum items were quite tasty - fresh and flavourful. However, the deep fried items were not good. Sometimes they were unevenly fried, sometimes the oil tasted really old and gross, almost mall food court quality. We waited 20min at the end of our meal for the egg tarts, thinking they were probably making it fresh, however, they came out stale and cold, not appetizing at all. read more

have always been curious about this michelin dimsum place so went to try the 2 of us ordered a total of 6 items (5 savory and 1 dessert) i personally like the steamed chive and shrimp dumplings. they were well seasoned and you can really taste the shrimp paste which means they used enough shrimps and minimal filler ingredients another item which i liked was the sweet rice puff. this is one of my favorite dimsum items. the sweetness of the sticky rice and the savory fillings were very well balanced and were freshly made however, the sticky rice wad a bit overcooked which made the rice to become too soft and mushy. I am unsure if the soup dumplings were made in house, the wrappings were so thick on top and it became a bit hard after cooking. the one i would not recommend is the shrimp toast. there was so much sesame on the toast and after frying, the taste of the sesame was so overwheming that you couldnt even taste the shrimp read more

It's aight. Let's be clear, this place is cool and hip but it ain't Sun Sui Wah or Kirin. I might come here for lunch, and maybe get a nice glass of wine or craft beer to go with it. The food is good. But my parents would not approve of this place. They would tsk about how it is more hip than it is delicious or good value. They wouldn't be interested in paying extra for the ambiance or attentive service when there is better dim sum to be had in town. That being said, there's also nothing wrong with it. We had an AMAZING experience at this spot! We made a lunch reservation and were running a few mins behind. The staff was so accommodating and understanding. We were explained the menu and it was super easy to check off what we wanted. We also expressed that we didn't eat pork so the sever gave us some good suggestions . We ordered 6-7 tapas items since everything was tapas style but VERY Filling! Dumplings and egg rolls were filled with flavor and the amount of filling in each was significant whether it was meat or vegetables. Really amazing dishes! The dumplings are a MUST. On a Saturday afternoon, my husband and I made our way to Little Bird Dim Sum. I saw that they took reservations so I made one, not sure how crowded they would be. When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly full, but we were seated right away. The restaurant is very minimalist in nature with a long slender profile of tables, almost as if down a walkway. We were given our menu and explained to mark with a dry erase marker what we would like to order. Everything sounded so amazing that we had such a hard time choosing. But we settled on a nice mixture of items: a barbecue pork bun, shrimp and chive dumplings, soup dumplings, shumai, sesame balls, and egg custard buns. They offer a nice variety of local beers on tap, but my husband and I ended up sharing a nice pot of Jasmine tea since it was a cold and rainy day. The food came out quickly, but the staff did a tremendous job of pacing it so that we were not overwhelmed with all of our dishes at once. I swear that each and every bite was better than the last. This is the sort of place that I would have a very hard time not coming to every single day if I lived locally. So if you live in the Vancouver area and have not been to Little Bird Dim Sum yet, what are you waiting for?! I first learnt about the restaurant this summer and I'm glad we finally paid a visit for dinner tonight. I'll admit that the Seth Rogen publicity helps push me with the decision. We went for an early dinner at 1730. Among the two of us, we had: - chive & shrimp dumplings, - siu mai - shrimp toasts - crispy bean curd rolls - fried garlic squid - egg tarts We also had a pilsner and a cider. The dishes and their flavours were as authentic as one would expect of good Cantonese dim sum dishes. The egg tarts were baked to order and they came piping hot. We had real and honest (i.e. not pretentious ) dim sums served in a lively trendy neighbourhood restaurant. My friend and I made the trek here on a chilly Sunday evening - it's not the biggest, so definitely make a reservation, since it did start filling up quickly around 6:30pm or so. We weren't the hungriest at the time so we ordered a bunch of smaller things to share: The spare ribs had a nice flavour but tended to be on the tougher side (hard to chew). The black bean sauce was tasty though (and you could tell as soon as the dish arrived how authentic it smelled haha). The pork bun was really big (!) - not the usual type you'd expect to see at a dim sum restaurant, it was more like the big baozi. The bread was a bit bland - not my favourite - but there was a lot of juicy pork as filling. Siu mai was quite good, I liked the overall full/rich flavour, and the shrimp in particular tasted great! The Shanghai xiaolongbao were average at best. The soup smelled very fragrant, but the skins were not very soft at all, and the meat didn't have much flavour. The egg tarts were a delightful end to our meal; the egg was light and creamy and the crust wonderfully flaky. The cherry on top was the price though; we couldn't believe our eyes when we paid our cheque. We fully expected the bill to come out to at least twice as much as it actually was, especially comparing to some of the other Michelin-related dim sum restaurants in Vancouver (cough cough). The steamed bbq pork buns, sticky rice, pot stickers, Shanghai soup dumpling, spring rolls, and the scallop taro puffs were delicious. Decided to try Little Bird Dim Sum after discovering that it was recognized as a Michelin Bib Gourmand. I had really high hopes, especially having also heard that Vancouver has incredible dim sum. Walking in, the restaurant is a long rectangle that extends quite deep with seats lining against one side of the wall - half booth, half chairs. There are coat racks available which is nice given that it was raining on and of. Upon entry, our initial interaction with a staff member was quite awkward. A hostess walked up to us but did not say hi or ask if we had a reservation. Instead she kind of just stared at me. Feeling kind of weird, I told her that we had a reservation for two in which she nodded and walked us to a table. Still, she did not utter a single word. Then all of a sudden, she started talking and explaining how the menu worked. Once again, I was kinda struck off guard because considering she hadn't said anything the entire time, I wasn't expecting her to talk. Like, why didn't you say hi when we walked in? Anyways, we proceeded to place all our orders by indicating on the menu what and how many of each item we wanted. Food, at best, was solid, but it wasn't amazing. The spare ribs and har gow were my favorite. The BBQ pork bun only came with one order. We also got the sticky rice. Once again, everything was just solid. Cute little restaurant serving dim sum and beer - friendly and helpful staff. A good selection of dim sum and dishes came out at a good pace. The beer was good too (pilsner). Overall - OK. Would like to return and try it again on another night. The siu mai is big and flavorful as was the chunky fried squid and shrimp toast. The soy sheet rolls were unevenly cooked - one crisper/browner and the other quite pale. The egg tarts (made to order) were served nice and hot ... but one had a flakey crisp crust while the other was soft/doughy on the sides/bottom (of course, it's the one I had). This little, non-descript restaurant is bloody amazing. It doesn't look like much from the outside, and once you enter, the interior is comprised of an unpretentious long, deep and narrow galley-way. No windows in the interior; just a straight aisle to the back of the space, with a column of wooden tables adjacent to one wall. It's bustling. My party of four were seated promptly and given a menu encased in a plastic sheath, along with a black white-board marker to circle our order on the plasticized menu. It's not a fancy place. I left it up to my friend to choose what to order. (It was his birthday, and he had lived in Asia for many years so was most familiar with all the dim sum dishes). We got a TON of food - SO many dishes and plates. I have no idea what most of it was. I don't know the names of the dishes ordered. But it all was EXCELLENT. (Even my friend, who is usually quite critical of Asian foods here in Vancouver, said these dishes were excellent). I had a bit of sticky rice with chicken and sausage in it (excellent). I had a big, fluffy white bun with a delicious pork filling in it (OMG this was so good). There were dry rubbed small spareribs (delicious). There were soup-filled dumplings (delicious). There were two other types of dumplings that I did not have but were gobbled up fast by my friends, who said they were delicious. (I was stuffed by this time). I had a wonderful glass of pinot Grigio (small but decent wine offerings here). Then there was dessert. I did not partake (I truly was stuffed), but my friends ordered egg tarts (my friend said these were good but the pastry was a tad undercooked and there was a bit too much custard filling. Still, he had three of them lol!), and these sesame-covered balls filled with a sweetened filling. My friend said these sesame balls were as good as any he's ever had in Asia. Now THAT says a LOT! Our servers were attentive and friendly, and the prices were quite reasonable. I'm already planning on returning with my daughter. This place is truly a find! read more

Wanted to try this place out given the Michelin guide. The dim sum here is a lot less flavorful compared to many of the other Chinese restaurants in Vancouver. Food was solid/mediocre but it wasn't anything to write home about. I'm Asian so I've been to a lot of the dim sum places around Vancouver. Service was also a bit awkward... it's just 2-3 servers constantly moving around but there's not really much passion or excitement going on. They just drop off the plates and don't really explain what anything is. Chrysanthemum Tea was also more on the watered down side and didn't taste like anything for $3. read more

Generally good service, portion sizes make sense, many dishes are two or four, the sticky rice is one giant serving (pictured). Nothing else like it in Vancouver that I'm aware of that you can get beer with dim sum. Do not bring granny here that speaks 台山話. She'll hate it. Don't bring your 鄉下 parents either. They'll hate it and give you an earful. 「衰嘢! 咁唔抵食嘅!」 Do order a heaping meal. When I say heaping, do what I did. 15 plates for 3 peeps. I swear, I ordered close to half the menu. That's how you do dim sum properly you noob. Do not expect to order sweet and sour pork, chicken balls, or chow mein etc. You deserve to be bitch slapped if you do you noob. Do order the "feet". You know, the chicken feet. I don't eat it because I'm a hypocrite. If you're going to do dim sum with beer, you may as well order the feet and drown it out with the beer. Do not expect to see a lot of Asians. This place is targeted for a specific demographic. Do expect "authentic" dim sum. Yes, this is not Western bastardized Chinese food in any manner whatsoever. It's the real deal. If I'm not mistaken, there appears to be a hint of MSG for the complete experience. I couldn't fully come to a conclusion on that one. Do not expect to be overly confused by the menu. It's all in English and is laid out nicely. Do expect a conclusion for my review. The food is authentic as you can get. Hits and misses here and there but overall not bad and pretty good. Hard to compare to another dim sum place because, depending on your semantics, it's hard to declare what's authentic and what's not. The atmosphere is definitely Western demographically aimed. Arrived at 530pm and the place was packed. Was worried but the food came out quickly and hot! All the dishes were good too great. On a mediocre note though, the xiao long bao was average, would like to see a vinegar and ginger sliver option. I do appreciate this a difficult dish to get just right. 2-3 portions per dish allows one to try several dishes, which we did. Overall would recommend and looking forward to going again! Unfortunately, I was really disappointed. I went on a Saturday night around 7 to put my name down for a party of 3. The hostess said the wait would be around 30-45min which was very manageable, so I added my name to the clipboard and waited outside. However, the wait ended up being much longer than this. We ended up getting a table around 8:30. They don't allow you to add your number either which means that you'll likely have to wait outside for them to call your name as the waiting area inside is rather small. The rest of the experience did not get that much better. I was extra excited because most dim sum is traditionally meat-based, but they had a bunch of different veggie options to try! I picked two out, and was told that they had ran out of one of the dishes today, so I picked another item. Five minutes later, the waitress came and told me that they were also out of that item, so I ended up getting the veggie Shanghai bun and spring rolls. My friends' food took a while to get ready, but it all came out around the same time. My first dish came out around 15 minutes after both of theirs, and the other one followed. The waitress didn't apologize for this nor even checked in to say that things were on the way, even when we flagged her down to ask if there were more dishes on the way she said "I'm not sure, I think so". As for the taste of the food, it was decent. The spring rolls were good but my shanghai bun barely had any filling in it and was rather tasteless. Overall, I really wanted to like this spot but that wasn't the case. This might just be because they're so new and trying to smooth out all the kinks, but I'd be hesitant to come back until they made serious improvements - especially to their service. read more

LB offers traditional dim sum in a modern setting. Dim sum is often better with a group in order to try a variety of dishes, but LB's menu/portions and two-tops tables actually encourages a duo to enjoy this style of food. Spouse and I booked a table for brunch and were able to sample 8 dishes with minimal leftovers. It's worth noting that LB offers dim sum beginners an easy way to start exploring. Spouse doesn't share my ardent love of all Asian foods, but he has been eating it long enough with me to comment that the quality of the dishes he felt comfortable eating was pretty high. We had Chinese greens, sticky rice, steamed shrimp and chive dumplings, bean curd rolls, spring rolls, two kinds of pan fried dumplings and fry garlic spareribs. Everything was fresh and well prepared. Fried items were not greasy. Service was quick, though slightly confusing when trying to get a check. Several people waited on us through the meal. Our bill came to $65 Canadian with tea, which felt totally reasonable for this meal. I highly recommend LB to dim sum newcomers and lovers alike. Dim sum and craft brew? It's a perfect match in my book. This is a cute little place with little dividers between tables for 2 and 4 people. I started with the Juicy AF Hazy IPA from Boombox as I perused the menu (can, $7.50) It was delicious - juicy af just as advertised (though the menu indicated a bit lower alc% than was written on the can, but I didn't care). The food - you circle things you want on the menu and they bring them to you hot. We had sticky rice, dry garlic spareribs, cilantro and shrimp dumplings, fried garlic squid, baby gai lan and crispy bean curd roll. Everything was super tasty. Great squid, great bean curd roll. The spareribs were a lot more bone than meat, but good garlic taste, good to gnaw on. The standout was the cilantro and shrimp dumplings - we ordered these twice (3 in each order, $7). The servers were very attentive to re-filling our sriracha, sesame oil, hot mustard, etc. Would come here again - especially for more dumplings and to try more things! read more

This new spot is super cute, and has great food The restaurant is quite large - maybe a bit too large since they were not enough staff to assist everyone. The service staff were friendly. But they were definitely understaff, which meant very slow service for everyone. I noticed some of the tables around us, ordered items and then they were sold out, some people actually left after waiting for a long period of time. The food - from what we got was amazing! I was extremely disappointed that i waited 20 minutes for a table, also spent lots of time just sitting at our table waiting for food that didn't come out. I believe we got 3/7 things we ordered. Most of the items the staff forgot about, once we informed the staff, they said they would bring the items right away, I think after that we waited about 20 more minutes, no food, after waiting for such very long period of time, we decided it was best to just grab our bill and go. I would come back since the dumplings were great, but service needs to be improved majorly. read more

This is a really interesting concept for Kitsilano, where it is a bit of a desert for Dim Sum. The offering of dim sum at night is novel - and also the pairing with craft beers! In summary, this is authentic Chinese dim sum (while adding its own flair) in an area that's lacking in this option. I went on a weekday, so it was fairly quiet. However, all the servers were super nice and attentive, grabbing drink orders and providing recommendations. There were a huge variety of drinks from authentic teas (including HK Lemon Tea) and craft beers. For food, we got the following: - The Feet (Chicken Feet) - Ha Gow (Shrimp Dumpling) - Pork Spareribs - Beyond Meat Siu Mai with Truffle - Chive and Shrimp Dumpling - Stuffed Eggplant - Curry Squid And for dessert: - Green Tea Sesame Balls - Lychee/Goji Berry Jelly The food was definitely authentic and tasted similar to a typical dim sum restaurant. The beyond meat was an interesting choice as a vegan siu mai (I'm sure I'll enjoy the meat option more though). The Ha Gow has a lot of shrimps. The Stuffed Eggplant was so delicious with the shrimp paste and the bean sauce! The matcha sesame balls are a must - there's gooey black sesame inside! The minor things that could be improved would be making the Feet a bit more saucy and steam it for longer (though I can see that making the aesthetic more sloppy). The Curry Squid came in a watery sauce though the flavour was all there - so it's more of a presentation pointer. All in all, really interesting to have a place like this in Kits. I hope that it does really well and I'm interested in trying more dishes. We talked to the owner and it seems like they're constantly innovating the menu. Just finished eating. Heard about it's opening a few weeks ago and it's already packed. Happy for them as it's a great concept. Pros/ the dim sum is as good as any authentic Chinese dim sum place. Great assortment. Fair pricing. Suitable for 2 people. Smaller portions. Modern booze to go along with the dishes. Seriously if you want dim sum with booze and with a modern feel it hits all the high notes. Aside from the typical dishes we also tried less sampled dishes. And I'm only going to comment on those Chicken feet - a bit more put together than normal and tasted on par with Richmond joints Sweet rice puff - actually the deep fried pork dumpling. The glutinous rice was definitely sweeter than Normal. It made it feel like dessert meat. Nothing wrong with it. But a bit too sweet for a savoury dish Ha gu chou cold herbal tea- was good. It sounds intimidating and probably would benefit from a more user friendly name like unsweetened Chinese iced tea. But that's exactly what it tastes like. Curry squid- as another reviewer mentioned. It was a bit watery but tasted pretty typical. But not particularly recommended. All in all. It's dim sum on par with Richmond with clean modern digs Cons : crowded entry way with some chaos. With the standing line up and no where to stand or sit and no hostess. One feels stressed about losing their place in line. Perhaps a less service oriented but more efficient method is 'write your own name down' style. Because dim sum has to be steamed and it's relatively smaller volumes vs regular dim sum joints. The initial load in is noticeable slow both for dim sum and casual eatery standpoint. So there is a bit of sitting and waiting. All in all amazing deal. With 2 beers all in was $64. I was impressed and hoping they do well. Missing 5 stars until they resolve the front entry situation. It was a bit stressful and put us on edge. read more
