This is a sister restaurant to the Tasty BBQ & Beer Bar located in Richmond. I saw this restaurant while it was being constructed, as it is located right along the seawall, just before the Burrard Bridge. What a phenomenal location! In the summer, there's an outdoor seating area which is literally right by the water, and the view is gorgeous. And in cooler months, the restaurant interior is amazing, as they suspended a lot of vibrant, arresting neon signs from the ceiling, reminiscent of the downtown Tokyo alleyways and street scenes. Whoever did the interior design of this place, my hat's off to you! It's incredibly effective and eye-catching. Now for the food review....wow, it's super good. They specialize in skewers here, and you can get all sorts of shish kebab-like skewers, for a wide range of price points, too. But the dish that really blew my kid and I away was the grilled eggplant. I can't say enough good things about this dish. It was absolutely delicious, and we'd go back again for this dish alone. Our server was lovely and very patient in describing all the various skewers and plates. Oh, and I really liked the service-wear and pottery, too. Very authentic. When my kid and I dined here, the restaurant was fairly new and it didn't have its liquor license yet, but when I last passed here on my seawall walks, I noticed a sandwich board outside the door advertising its Happy Hour specials. Sloppy Management or low team morale? made a reservation on Xmas Eve 2024 and with no prior notice, Tasty shut down for the night. Our family of four showed up at the door and were quite agitated by the AWOL... really messed up our Xmas Eve plan. I called and left voice messages and never got a call back from anyone explaining why we were not given any notice. And couple days ago their Wechat Official Account left a message saying the restaurant in Yaletown has now paused their operations. Pity to see the bar gone. This place is a bit of a mystery. I liked the food (though of course I sampled only a small part of their extensive menu), the prices were fair. The service was hard to predict, because staff did not seem to last long. But one day, perhaps a month ago, it simply closed and has not reopened. No signs, no notice, nothing. It is as if the owner simply walked away. After the extensive redecorating and re-branding of the location, it would make some sense for the original Tasty in Richmond to take it over, if they could get good terms. on dec 9, 2024, a neighbour took me to this restaurant because he knew the owner and said the food was good. he ordered lots of dishes and chatted with the owner, who sat down with us briefly. the restaurant was mostly empty and there was only one server. the food tasted ok, but a lot of the dishes were rather oily/greasy. as the meal went on, my stomach started feeling uncomfortable and then nauseous. I couldn't wait to go home and as soon as I did, the projectile vomiting started. it went on and on until my stomach was empty. and then the rounds of diarrhea started, emptying my intestines. I suffered in pain and couldn't eat or barely drink water for days afterwards. a pharmacist told me that I had caught norovirus, which is caused by a fecal-oral transmission. my neighbour didn't get sick, but had not eaten any beef, for religious reasons. I emailed the restaurant to let them know what happened and got no response. my neighbour said he'd tell the owner, but I heard nothing back from him or her. so I assume she didn't care at all. my warning to you is to stay away from this place! read more
