We waited a bit on line (they don't accept reservations), but then the service was quick, which we appreciated because we had our toddler with us. Atmosphere is so busy and lively, with white a modern decor. It's certainly a hot spot among tourists. We got the Shoyu Tonkotsu ramen, the Jinya Tonkotsu Black, the gyoza, the brussel sprouts, and some beer that my husband wanted. The food was so comforting! So filling! Appreciate that you can choose your spice level and that they had small bite appetizers that children can eat. Jinya is a solid ramen spot and the perfect place to have a pre show dinner downtown. We did just that last night ahead of our show at the Orpheum. I've had Jinya twice now and enjoyed it both times! The classic ramen is my favourite so far. Last night I had the chicken wonton ramen + egg and it was abit too heavy - they give you quite a few wontons! We also had the crunchy cucumber salad which Wes tasty but wanted abit of a kick of spice to it. And we got the spicy creamy shrimp tempura which is exactly like an ebi mayo which was so delicious! Great sauce great crunch factor! Service is always fast! You may find a line when you go but they try their best to seat you as quickly as they can. Spent the day walking the streets of Vancouver and came to Jinya for a warm bowl of ramen for lunch. It was delicious and would definitely come back for more. The staff were very kind and attentive - made my elderly parents feel right at home. The staff really seem to like their jobs as there were lots of laughs and chattering among them as they worked. Been coming here off and on for years. Not a favourirlte, but ok in a pinch. But after today, decided never again. Total quality downgrade. Char siu not like you'd find at a normal raman eatery. Not the thinly sliced rounds of delicious meaty morsels. This was more like a cheap alternative of a 1 x 2 inch pork belly cut quite thick for raman terms. But the worst part was, it was cold. Like stone cold. And because it was so fatty, it had the texture of eating straight lard. Gross. I thought it was odd when the dish arrived, you couldn't even see there was meat in it. Until you realize they buried it in the broth in a futile attempt to warm it up. Sorry chef. Didn't work. Still stone cold. Couldn't eat it. Just too fatty and the cold grease coating my mouth was just too off putting. On a positive note, the broth was quite good. I had the Black raman. My friend had the Red. What we got: Tonkotsu black ramen Tonkotsu black broth had smooth tonkotsu flavor blends with black garlic oil well. Noodle itself was just ok. Topping were delicious. Salmon poke mini tacos was unique menu. Salmon poke was just ok. Tacos shell was crispy and enjoyed that combination. Pork chashu bowl was solid item. Great spot on Robson Street with a lively vibe. The Impossible Gyoza was delicious and surprisingly innovative. Cucumber Salad was good but a bit too salty. It was our favorite restaurant to have dined at during my partner and my trip to Vancouver. Everything from hospitality, quality of the food, ambiance and décor was well planned and executed perfectly. Upon arrival, we were seated at the high tops next to each other with menus and prompt waters delivered. The host also informed us of the specials for the day before asking us to take out time with the menu. The bartender quickly finished the two cocktails he was preparing and then came over to address us. After asking if we had been there, he made a few recommendations before telling us to give him a wave when we were ready. My boyfriend got their Signature Ramen Combination and a Highball while I got their Classic Ramen Combination and a Beer. The combinations arrived within 8-10 minutes and included a salad and a side of your choice. My boyfriend got the Gyoza while I opted for the chicken pieces. We also decided to share an order of the Salmon Aburi. After finishing our appetizers, which were delightful and left us craving move, they bussed our plates and delivered the main entrees. The bartender also made it a point to chat with us, asked where we were from, whether the food was to our liking, and talked a little bit about the ramen before tending to another couple that had been seated to the high tops. UNHAPPY HOUR WIMP Impossible TACO We came in for a bite after attending the FIFA World Cup soccer Fan Mart up the street . Although it was 2 pm , The waiter said the happy hour usually starts at 3 pm . Jinya was my first visit, and I think they did an exceptional job of meeting my expectations. I loved the richness of their broth and how flavorful it was, as well as the way their noodles were perfectly prepared. Every bowl seemed to be created with care, and it's the kind of ramen that will warm your soul. I went in the middle of lunch rush and the wait wasn't long for me, and I found the service to be very nice, polite, friendly, and accommodating. Kids each got a kids meal and husband got a tonkatsu ramen bowl. We also ordered some gyozas and the lychee martini. The lychee martini had no trace of alcohol lol. It was literally just juice. The chicken chasu bowl was disgusting with absolutely ZERO flavor. I ate 1/4 of it and the rest went to waste unfortunately. Even my kids wouldn't eat it. The kids got a decent kids meal with ramen and crispy chicken and French fries. Husband's ramen broth was so salty and just underwhelming. Total was about $140 CAD and absolutely the worst meal we had while in Canada. Our waitress never once checked on us and when we did ask for some refills on water, we had a horrible attitude. Everything was really good, some of the vegan/impossible stuff was a bit on the saltier side, but still good. Drinks were good, but on the lighter side (like a bud light). TLDR: Confrontational experience with Waiter Sara. Bad pork chasu. First let's preface by saying i am a ramen fan, eating ramen weekly at various places in the Northern CA Bay Area. It was a hip, modern bar (kind of loud but modern feel). We ordered pork chasu ramens. When we told the waiter the pork chasu was 90% fat and not happy about it. She justified by saying that it was pork belly and said that i should not order it if i did not want the fat. I escalated to the manager. Manager apologized and offered chicken in lieu of the pork. She said it was corporate decision. Whether it was the truth or not, she had way better attitude. I might try a different Jinya in the Bay Area and hope for a better experience. read more

Went before a show at the Orpheum to watch AR Rahman and had the spicy creamy vegan ramen which was pretty good but the vegetable broth was a bit weak. It had tofu, green & crispy onion, spinach, garlic chips, garlic oil, chili oil and sesame seeds. I've ordered their Jinya chicken ramen many times (breast meat) along with trying some of their fried appetizers chicken karage, fried salmon tacos, along with others but I used to live near the downtown location so would frequent it much more but now there is a new location so would be keen to try it for happy hour. read more

I so appreciate the strong influence of Asian restaurants in Vancouver, especially Japanese. In randomly coming across Jinya, I found they are a chain and have many location across the U.S. Not knowing of them, this location does have exceptional food. The wait staff is wonderful, very attentive, friendly, and helpful. They let you know up front that they do not accept cash. The waiter carefully explained the menu and asked repeatedly, with sincere concern, if we had any food allergies. I had to try the ramen, but I was also tempted by the Jinya bun. So we ordered two. They were superb, a real highlight! The bun was so tasty, soft, and a puff of goodness. Perfectly made and stuffed with tender pork and wonderfully delicious. Do not miss it, and it is pointed out on the menu as a specialty. My entree was the Creamy Spicy Vegan Ramen. YUM! I am a carnivore and definitely not vegan, but this dish is superb. Full of spinach, tofu, and other fresh ingredients, the best is the broth, indeed a milky creamy consistency and unique, plus the fabulous noodles! Give me just a bowl of the noodles, and I'd be happy. I like extra spicy, asked, and they did it exactly to my level of tolerance. It's good to note that you can customize the ramen in dozens of ways to your liking. My better half tried the Tokyo Curry Rice, and greatly enjoyed it. Trying a bit, the curry also has a very unique flavor. The rice was to the side along with some greens. We each washed it down with Sopporo beer that came very refreshingly cold. It was such a beautiful evening that we ate outside at their sidewalk side seating, which was quite comfortable and offered an opportunity to watch the passing crowd. The inside has lots of seating and a bar in the center, with a nice bar-ambience. There are tables, booth, and stool seating options. Brilliant everything! THE superstar truly was the entire staff however, especially Toshie (talk about a superstar server / bartender). I got the shrimp wonton ramen but was a bit disappointed. The taste of the broth reminded me of spicy shrimp paste (which I didn't mind), however the wontons were more like dumplings (wonton wrappers are supposed to be very thin). The noodles also didn't have any additional toppings other than the wontons and mushroom. Peeled garlic was also brought to our table in the event I wanted to add more garlic to my ramen. Orders arrived fairly quickly, and they looked appetizing. Tonkotsu Ramen came with thin noodles, while the Cha Cha Cha noodles were thicker. Pros - hubs liked the chicken karaage, and the noodles had a good consistency. Cons - the broth for both bowls were quite bland, which was surprising as they looked rich and we even added more garlic to the broths. Also, I expected jammy eggs, but these were quite cooked in the middle and not a whole lot of added flavor. There is one near my home in Burnaby. But this one was Vancouver. We did go during dinner rush. But apparently wanting to sit inside Vs outside there's no wait outside. So we sat on the patio. Noodle menu was very busy and a bit hard to understand it but we ended up asking the server and he explained it. And made some good suggestions. My friends noodle was vegan soup. And I liked the noodle that came with hers. Mine was a wonton one. And the noodle was a thinner noodle. I'm not a fan of thin noodles. So I had mentioned next time I'd ask for what she's having with my wonton. They offered to cook me up a noodle if I wanted that one. I did. It was nice of them. They didn't have to do that. we used to patronize jinya for happy hour frequently, before covid, but not sure why we don't go more often. i have a soft spot for their lychee-tinis. to be honest though, i'm not a fan of ramen, but with their 7 year anniversary promo, we took this as a sign to revisit jinya for lunch. we showed up approx 30 minutes after opening on wednesday and there was already a steady line up outside, but the wait wasn't too bad, maybe 5 to 10 minutes. the place was bustling with energy, and the service was professional, efficient, and friendly. we both had the bowl of jinya tonkotsu black, pork broth; pork chashu, kikurage, green onion, nori dried seaweed, seasoned egg, garlic chips, garlic oil, fried onion and spicy sauce. i liked the thin noodles, it had a nice texture and chew, and i enjoyed the flavourful, rich, hearty broth. the egg was overcooked for my liking, i prefer a more jammy yolk consistency that slowly oozes when pierced. i found the broth to be a tad on the salty side, but it was a satisfying bowl of ramen at only $10. while we slurped our noodles, we noticed the queue outside wrapped around the corner from robson to richards, indicating jinya's popularity. wishing you a very happy 7th anniversary. your journey so far has been truly remarkable. may your future be filled with even more success and growth, kanpai! read more
