What a delicious lunch! I brought my parents to Gurkha and we enjoyed everything. Service was very friendly and I learned this location is the original Gurkha Kitchen. We ordered a variety of dishes to share-Chicken Momos, Goat Curry, Thalli set chicken and garlic naan. Loved all the flavors. The momos were filled with tender ground chicken in a delicate wrap and served with a curry dipping sauce. The goat curry was very tender and savory. My parents especially loved this dish over rice. I loved the Thalli set which is served with a variety of sides. The dal (black lentils) and the sautéed veggies were so good and the restaurant offers free refills! The chicken (bone in) curry was flavorful. The garlic naan was soft and fresh. Perfect for all the sauces. Delicious and I'll definitely be back! read more

Dining in may have provided a better experience. We were so enamored with the San Ramon location last night, we went to try the Sunnyvale location since we were in the area. The servers were friendly and brought us complimentary chai tea while we waited for our food. The restaurant was smaller and more decorative than the San Ramon restaurant. We ordered our food to go and were slightly disappointed, partly because our bag tipped over on the way home and the tandoori chicken sauce got over every container and inside the bag. The chicken momos were shaped more like Chinese dumplings/Japanese gyozas instead of the unique little volcanos we had last night. They were still delicious. The tandoori chicken was not as juicy since we lost a lot of the sauce. We tried the lamb biryani. It was spicy and good. Definitely use the yogurt sauce they serve with it. Loved all the big chunks of lamb. We will go to the restaurant again and dine in to get the full experience. read more

We saw this next to "new india bazar" when we visited on the weekend for some last minute grocery shopping. It has a big parking lot right outside. It's open till late. Then we saw it "open" on yelp late last night on "uber eats" past 9 pm also and giving out promotions like "free item over $30" and "buy 1, get 1 free" on butter chicken, channa, gurkha chicken. So we decided to give it a try. In $41, we got: - chicken momos (regular-medium spicy) - 3/5 the mixture was ok but shell was slightly more doughy for me if i compare it to Everest momo food truck. I wish they gave the chili hot sauce for dipping on the side like most momo places. Their orange sauce was lame. Reducing 1 star for sauce :( - butter chicken 4/5 - it was buy 1 get 1 free which was a good deal. It was more tangy than most places but i think it showed it had less processed puree. It did taste better today as leftovers with home made rotis. - fried rice veggie 3/5 - a full size portion of it came free when you order for more than $30. Stopped into this restaurant after binging a bunch of Pani Puri videos--had to try it for myself. Pani Puri: super fun and fresh; crisp shells, tangy water, and a great kick. A bit too sour for me but quite refreshing. The dining room is spacious and super clean, with unique wall decor and lots of certificates. We also got the buffalo platter--the side salad was surprisingly good, and the buffalo had that savory, jerky-like chew I love. The chicken tikka pizza came loaded with cheese. The ambiance of this place is cute, it's on the dimmer side, but I liked the interior. Service was quick as when we went for pickup, our food was ready. I highly recommend the goat curry and dal tadka. Actually, everything in these pictures is delicious. The curry and dal are must tries though! The green chutney that comes with the pokora is so flavorful and pairs perfectly with the fish. The cauliflower has an amazing soy-garlic sauce that's really good. The service is great and our water cups were constantly being filled. I like how there are pictures of the food around the restaurant and a chef's special menu to choose from. Food was delicious and service was excellent! We came around 9:45pm on a Friday night. We sat right away, ordered right away, and ate right away. Their butter chicken is excellent! I think they use dark meat chicken which makes the chicken super juicy. My husband got the tikka masala and he liked it very much. There is a lot of sauce so rice or lots of naan is a good idea. And the garlic naan is delicious! We also got the Taj Mahal lager, and Nepal Ice beer. They were very refreshing and tasty. Perfect pairing :) We will definitely be coming back. I ate three dishes here that made me dream about coming back just to have them again. The "Chicken C Momo"? DELICIOUS. Literally the juiciest dumplings with the most comforting spicy garlic sauce and chopped veggies together. When these arrived at my table, the momos were CRISP even with the saucy glaze they were covered in. I was mesmerized by its beauty and the blend of textures. It's something I want to have every time I'm feeling down in life because eating these felt like I was being lifted up and hugged. The "Pahadi Chicken Tikka Kabab" was excellently spiced. Paired with the "Garlic Naan" and you have a winning duo. The chicken was soft and tender, easy to pull apart. The bread had literal minced garlic pieces and was so soft and hot. I can't tell you the number of times I've ordered garlic naan and it just comes out as buttered bread with garlic flavor. This naan here was the real deal y'all. The only thing I didn't like was the "Thakali Thali Goat". The goat was great but the veg dishes were a bit lacking. Since the menu labels the contents with "veg of the day" it'll probably be a hit or a miss depending on what you like. There's also plentyyyy of seating for you and loved ones, heck, an entire family of 8+ walked in for a casual dinner when I ate here. And the highlight of this place? Definitely the foreign music videos that play on the TV. My company and I enjoyed seeing that cultural touch on top of all the beautiful decorations surrounding the space. read more

I had their veggie chowmein for takeout, it was fantastic. The menu has plenty of vegan options, although they are not labelled. I emailed to ask and I am told the vegan options are: mixed mass tarkari, channa masala, veg chowmein, dal tadka, and aloo bodi tama. The veg momos are not vegan. The plate was served with either rice or naan. The garlicky naan was exceptional! Exactly how I like and how it should be. My curry fish was mild with a tang of spices, from the result of tempering with pepper, etc. Authentic and tasty. Tried a bit rice with curry goat, the taste was inviting! I figured it was the curry sauce that did the magic. By just looking at my son's Nepalese Thali, I already knew it was good. My intuition is always right. That's the dish I am going to try next time. My first time trying Nepalese food, it's more agreeable to my palate as it's milder. Kudos to the chef who knows how to cook yummy food. :) Service was friendly and attentive. The waitress kept things coming up and did her job very well. Interior was culturally decorated with Nepalese landmark paintings and artifacts. Clean, simple and elegant. My husband is Nepali and this is our whole family's go-to spot. We frequent Gurkha Kitchen at least once a month -- both in the restaurant and also for takeout. Everything on their menu is great and authentic. We always order a few servings of chicken and buff johl momos. We particularly love the salty/sour sauce that the johl momos come with. We've also tried their Goat Curry, Wai Wai Sadeko, Thakali Thali Goat, and Khasi ko Sekuwa. All delicious! Their mango lassi is also quite delicious and we always grab at least one each time we visit. Staff is always friendly and the food is consistently good. Definitely recommend! read more
