yum yum great music, nice clean place, nice servers who were patient and also gave warnings about mustard oil in my salad + it being all cold ingredients. if you ask for mild they don't give you actual mild (if you can't handle spice just ask for zero spice) i got the chicken choile and it was very pleasant! there's like some kind of crunchy bean and it was nice, as well as a spicy potato thing on the side. i ended up not loving the mustard oil but i think the chefs went easy on it for me lol. i still really enjoyed the chicken flavor, it reminded me of chinese bbq skewers also tried shrimp curry - delicious fish/tilapia - super tender and flavorful and fresh chicken momos - personally don't think it has as much depth of flavor compared to chinese dumplings, but they were juicy garlic naan - wish it was cooked till crispy but it's chill, nothing spectacular though read more

It was our first time trying Nepali food, and overall we had a great experience. We ordered the Thakali chicken tray, which was nice, especially with the peas and beans on the side. The only downside was the chicken was chewy and pink. We also ordered the chicken tikka masala, and it was delicious the chicken was cooked perfectly. Recently visited Gurkha Kitchen as a group of 4. Tried several items and most of them were pretty good. The chowmein was way too oily though. One thing that struck us was that though the food was tasty, the prices for most dishes were on the higher side, specially looking at the amount of food. It is a small, homely place in a quiet, deserted strip mall, so you are not exactly paying for the location or the ambience. They either need to look into increasing the quantity of food accordingly or reducing the prices of most dishes by about 15%. read more

What a delicious lunch! I brought my parents to Gurkha and we enjoyed everything. Service was very friendly and I learned this location is the original Gurkha Kitchen. We ordered a variety of dishes to share-Chicken Momos, Goat Curry, Thalli set chicken and garlic naan. Loved all the flavors. The momos were filled with tender ground chicken in a delicate wrap and served with a curry dipping sauce. The goat curry was very tender and savory. My parents especially loved this dish over rice. I loved the Thalli set which is served with a variety of sides. The dal (black lentils) and the sautéed veggies were so good and the restaurant offers free refills! Dining in may have provided a better experience. We were so enamored with the San Ramon location last night, we went to try the Sunnyvale location since we were in the area. The servers were friendly and brought us complimentary chai tea while we waited for our food. The restaurant was smaller and more decorative than the San Ramon restaurant. We ordered our food to go and were slightly disappointed, partly because our bag tipped over on the way home and the tandoori chicken sauce got over every container and inside the bag. The chicken momos were shaped more like Chinese dumplings/Japanese gyozas instead of the unique little volcanos we had last night. They were still delicious. The tandoori chicken was not as juicy since we lost a lot of the sauce. We tried the lamb biryani. It was spicy and good. Definitely use the yogurt sauce they serve with it. Loved all the big chunks of lamb. We will go to the restaurant again and dine in to get the full experience. read more

We saw this next to "new india bazar" when we visited on the weekend for some last minute grocery shopping. It has a big parking lot right outside. It's open till late. Then we saw it "open" on yelp late last night on "uber eats" past 9 pm also and giving out promotions like "free item over $30" and "buy 1, get 1 free" on butter chicken, channa, gurkha chicken. So we decided to give it a try. In $41, we got: - chicken momos (regular-medium spicy) - 3/5 the mixture was ok but shell was slightly more doughy for me if i compare it to Everest momo food truck. I wish they gave the chili hot sauce for dipping on the side like most momo places. Their orange sauce was lame. Reducing 1 star for sauce :( - butter chicken 4/5 - it was buy 1 get 1 free which was a good deal. It was more tangy than most places but i think it showed it had less processed puree. Stopped into this restaurant after binging a bunch of Pani Puri videos--had to try it for myself. Pani Puri: super fun and fresh; crisp shells, tangy water, and a great kick. A bit too sour for me but quite refreshing. The dining room is spacious and super clean, with unique wall decor and lots of certificates. Didn't know about quantity but between the three of us it was more than enough and good for next day too. Everything tasted good and I particularly enjoyed the soup momos. I think they use dark meat chicken which makes the chicken super juicy. My husband got the tikka masala and he liked it very much. There is a lot of sauce so rice or lots of naan is a good idea. And the garlic naan is delicious! We also got the Taj Mahal lager, and Nepal Ice beer. They were very refreshing and tasty. Perfect pairing :) We will definitely be coming back. I highly recommend the goat curry and dal tadka. Actually, everything in these pictures is delicious. The curry and dal are must tries though! The green chutney that comes with the pokora is so flavorful and pairs perfectly with the fish. The cauliflower has an amazing soy-garlic sauce that's really good. The service is great and our water cups were constantly being filled. I like how there are pictures of the food around the restaurant and a chef's special menu to choose from. I ate three dishes here that made me dream about coming back just to have them again. The "Chicken C Momo"? DELICIOUS. Literally the juiciest dumplings with the most comforting spicy garlic sauce and chopped veggies together. When these arrived at my table, the momos were CRISP even with the saucy glaze they were covered in. I was mesmerized by its beauty and the blend of textures. It's something I want to have every time I'm feeling down in life because eating these felt like I was being lifted up and hugged. The "Pahadi Chicken Tikka Kabab" was excellently spiced. Paired with the "Garlic Naan" and you have a winning duo. The chicken was soft and tender, easy to pull apart. The bread had literal minced garlic pieces and was so soft and hot. I can't tell you the number of times I've ordered garlic naan and it just comes out as buttered bread with garlic flavor. This naan here was the real deal y'all. The only thing I didn't like was the "Thakali Thali Goat". The goat was great but the veg dishes were a bit lacking. Since the menu labels the contents with "veg of the day" it'll probably be a hit or a miss depending on what you like. There's also plentyyyy of seating for you and loved ones, heck, an entire family of 8+ walked in for a casual dinner when I ate here. And the highlight of this place? Definitely the foreign music videos that play on the TV. My company and I enjoyed seeing that cultural touch on top of all the beautiful decorations surrounding the space. read more

I had their veggie chowmein for takeout, it was fantastic. The menu has plenty of vegan options, although they are not labelled. I emailed to ask and I am told the vegan options are: mixed mass tarkari, channa masala, veg chowmein, dal tadka, and aloo bodi tama. The veg momos are not vegan. My husband is Nepali and this is our whole family's go-to spot. We frequent Gurkha Kitchen at least once a month -- both in the restaurant and also for takeout. Everything on their menu is great and authentic. We always order a few servings of chicken and buff johl momos. We particularly love the salty/sour sauce that the johl momos come with. We've also tried their Goat Curry, Wai Wai Sadeko, Thakali Thali Goat, and Khasi ko Sekuwa. All delicious! Their mango lassi is also quite delicious and we always grab at least one each time we visit. Staff is always friendly and the food is consistently good. Definitely recommend! read more
