Found a place that's primarily Nepalese and not Indian/nepalese with emphasis on Indian. Yay! Nice Nepali decor Prices are pretty good with location. When in Nepal, you have to get the dal bhat and thali!! Food is pretty authentic and def reminded me of Nepal. Im used to individual serving of thali but this is made for 2 and love the momos so yum!! Went on Wed night, early dinner and they were super nice to do the thali for us which is normally a lunch item. Service was very good and Biff is very nice. read more

I was really looking forward to trying Kathmandu Cuisine because it has good reviews, although there are still relatively few reviews. The food was okay--not bad, but not particularly memorable. I enjoyed the bread, but the other dishes we ordered were just so-so. I don't know Himalayan/Nepalese cuisine well enough to be overly critical of the food, so the service is really what left me disappointed. My friend and I arrived around 1:10 p.m. and ordered about $60-$70 worth of food. While we were still in the middle of eating, a server came over and asked if we were going to order anything else, which felt like we were being rushed. We ordered chai, and when it arrived, we were immediately told that we needed to pay. The server stood there waiting while we paid, then pointed out where to add the tip. This was around 2 p.m., even though the restaurant doesn't close until 3 p.m., and there were hardly any other customers there. We weren't asking for anything unusual--we were simply still enjoying our meal and chai. We ended up leaving sooner than we otherwise would have because we felt very unwelcome and as though we were being pushed out. The experience started out perfectly fine, so I was especially surprised by how abruptly the attitude changed. I understand that restaurants need to prepare for closing, but this felt unnecessarily rushed, particularly with an empty dining room and an hour still remaining. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately the service left a much stronger impression than the food. I hope this was an isolated experience, because I would have liked to return and give it another try. read more

Once they get their footing on the service this will be an outstanding restaurant. The service is, as others noted, slow. I observed only 2 persons taking care of tables. Both are extremely pleasant and helpful. The food is the highlight, as it should be. The Pork Momo's were fantastic. The dipping sauce was delicious with a nice kick! The crunchy cauliflower was also delightful. Full of flavor with a perfect blend of crunch, sweet and spicy. The chicken curry Nepali-style was right there with the first two. We started with a plate of 6 momos, with 2 of each of buffalo, chicken, and pork. I was expecting the same thing, just with different fillings, but was pleasantly surprised to see that the shapes were in fact different. The buffalo momos were shaped like wang mandu and off-white. The chicken momos were crescent-shaped and off-white. The pork momos were shaped like xiaolongbao and orange-red. Each had a distinct taste that was accentuated by the sauce. We also got a Himalayan thakali thali (lunch special) with fish curry and lots of sides, as well as a lamb taas. The portion was huge, especially the thali. The meat was well-seasoned and tender. The vegetables could have used more variety, and the salad had a few yellow leaves, but overall it was pretty solid. We also got the chiya tea, which is similar to masala chai but with a slightly more malty taste. The server gave us free refills. read more

Kathmandu opened their second restaurant in Los Altos 2 months ago and it's quite a wonderful addition. This is my first time eating at this restaurant but I have enjoyed my experience greatly. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was tasty and delicious. The dining room was delicately adorned to reflect the Nepalese culture and hospitality. Kudos to Gaugab for introducing me to this exotic cuisine. I will come back for sure with friends, especially on weekend nights when there is live music outdoors. read more

So happy to discover this exciting and delicious, yet comfortable restaurant. We have eaten here about 6-8 times since discovering it last Spring. Kathmandu Cuisine is a local Nepali family-run restaurant that offers traditional tastes and dishes. You must order the momos - I've had all of them and my carnivorous favorites are the buffalo, pork, and chicken, but the jackfruit and veg are also delicious. For your next course, the curries and noodles are all amazing. The lovely wait staff will gladly recommend items and I suggest you absolutely listen to them. Ask for the special bottle of sauce, although they will likely offer it. read more

Love love love! So nestled right in the heart o the village is this gem. First time I had Napalese style food was a few years ago in Sebastapol in the North Bay. I have always liked Indian food, however sometimes it is just too overpowering and spicy for me. The food with this napal influence has the best of 3 worlds to me, Himilayan, Tibetan and Indian food. So happy to see a Nepalese place open near me! I got takeout the other day and had buffalo momos, eggplant & tofu, and lamb skewer plate. Everything had a generous amount of spices of unique combinations. Really enjoyed the flavors. The only slight negative was that the lamb skewers were very dry. It wasn't too bad when paired with the tomato sauce/side though. Maybe it's traditionally done that way? I'll try ordering some other skewered meat next time. read more

Ordered Doordash from here tonight and loved the food. I've never had Nepalese food before so we ordered several different dishes, loved some and merely liked others. The garlic soup (Ajwain soup) was amazing. Next time I'll try the lentil as I liked the base but garlic was a touch strong -- even for a self-perceived garlic lover. The samosa were good, the interior/filling was amazing, but we didn't love the wrapper which was a little thick and a little too fried for us. But I'd order again to just eat the filling. The chicken curry (at spice level 2) was very good. Next time I will dial it up to 3. The lamb sekuwa were amazing, my favorite dish, with such rich seasoning. The garlic naan was quite good. The pork momos I didn't love, but perhaps they're an acquired taste. Overall, very good and we'll be back. read more

Five stars for Kathmandu Cuisine! The Ajwain Garlic Soup was a standout. Tangy, nourishing, and it absolutely hit the spot. We also loved the Veg Momos. The dough had that perfect chewy texture and the dipping sauce complemented them beautifully. For the main course, the Aalu Curry was packed with fresh vegetables, and the Garlic Naan arrived hot and fresh. The service was outstanding from start to finish. Had been to this newly opened restaurant at Los Altos with my office colleagues. The restaurant is in a prime location and easy accessible with ample of parking space on the streets of Los Altos. Coming to food, the food here was the best Nepalese food i have had in bay area, although due to my dietary restrictions i happen to try only veg and they tasted amazing. This is one of the very few places where you find Asian subcontinent style sizzlers. The food service was quick and food tasted so good and it was refreshing. The ambience was so good and that is something i did not expect. I would recommend anybody who is interested in trying Nepalese cuisine to give this restaurant a shot. read more

Kathmandu is a fairly new addition to downtown Los Altos (behind Drager's), featuring Nepali and Indo-Chinese food. It was very quiet on a Saturday night, and they have their own small parking lot. We wanted to try some less common dishes, so we focused on the Nepalese dishes - - Thukpa: Tibetan style rice noodle soup. We got the chicken one, which had a light broth, shredded chicken, and veggies - Momos: Nepali dumplings - various fillings available; we got pork, which had a nice peppery filling - Butter garlic shrimp: a generous portion of 6 large shrimped, perfectly cooked. This was our favorite dish - Garlic naan: pretty big for $7! The kids loved those - Nepali style chicken curry: a different style of curry (they have the traditional Indian ones also) The menu has lots of interesting options, and they also have buffalo meat options, which is more unique. It was nice to branch out to some different cuisine. I do hope their business picks up! read more

I recently tried this restaurant and was overall a decent experience. I would give it more a 3.5/5 rating but am rounding to 4. I ordered the butter chicken with garlic naan and Tibetan pork momo. The momo was really good but the butter chicken was not so much. It was basically tomato soup with a lot of sugar in it. I think this restaurant does Nepalese dishes well but I would not recommend ordering Indian food from here. If you're craving Indian curry, there are many better options in the South Bay. I wanted to try the Nepalese thali they offered however when I asked to substitute the rice with naan the staff said it was not allowed. I have done this replacement in Thalis at other restaurants so was quite surprised. Other than lack of accommodations/substitutions in food, the staff were friendly. I probably would try this place again since it's close, but only order momos or maybe other Nepalese speciality dishes like dal bhat. read more

We know this place had opened up recently and had been waiting to check it. It was definitely worth it. The food was amazing with layered flavors and serving sizes were quite large. We are vegetarian but there were tons of options for us. The service was also good. Our only regret is that there were only two of us and so many things to try! Wow! A neighbor recommended this to us. Great suggestion! The food isn't oily; tastes fresh with lots of vegetables and generous portions. The flavor of the water buffalo was citrusy and bright which cut the fat perfectly. The lamb was spectacular. Lots of nice pepper flavors. Went very well with the garlic naan. The garlic naan was pleasantly spiced without that overt or burnt garlic taste. Very light on butter. I can't emphasize enough how clean the food eats. The potato salad has some spice in it. I couldn't identify, but which I absolutely adore. The Hakka noodles for our five-year-old was perfect. We will definitely be coming back. read more

Excellent! So glad they've come to Los Altos. We had veggie noodles, paneer tikka, and Impossible momo which were all delicious. The noodles were perfectly cooked, not greasy at all. The momo came with a delicious sauce that had just the right amount of spice. The paneer tikka was also very tasty and perfectly spiced. Service was great. Chaya and mango lassis were both delicious.
