This place somehow never seems to earn less than 5 stars from me -- and it's not just because the cuisine is consistently excellent. In my opinion, the true measure of a business is how it handles things when something goes wrong, and this restaurant handled the situation exactly the way a quality establishment should. Here's what happened: I stopped in briefly to use the restroom and grab one of the spritzers they make here. First off, the spritzer is absolutely delicious -- light, refreshing, and something I highly recommend if you visit. Unfortunately, my interaction with the host was less than stellar. I asked about ordering the spritzer and was told two things: 1. He didn't think they made it. 2. He "didn't have time." That response honestly caught me off guard. A paying customer walks in asking to purchase a product your restaurant does in fact make, and the answer is that you don't have time? Serving guests is literally the core function of hospitality. Thankfully, one of the waitresses, Rachel, who had helped me during a previous visit completely turned the experience around. I asked her for the drink and without hesitation she smiled and said, "Right away!" Within moments she returned with the spritzer in hand. Professional, courteous, and exactly the kind of service that keeps people coming back. I explained the interaction to her and she looked genuinely puzzled. I later mentioned it to the manager, whom I've met before and always found to be approachable, professional, and kind. He was clearly appalled by what happened and handled the situation with sincerity and care. That's exactly why this place continues to earn high marks from me. Problems can happen anywhere. What matters is whether management and experienced staff know how to recover -- and they absolutely did. The seasoned staff and management here understand hospitality. I added this place to my list after the chocolate croissant experience went viral on social media. It definitely gets busy, so I'd recommend making a reservation online even on weekdays. I had one and was seated right away, and both the host and waitress were really friendly. The place itself is super cute with a slightly dressy vibe, which feels very Coronado. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and overall it's a really nice atmosphere. As tempting as the famous chocolate croissant experience looked, I ended up ordering the hazelnut banana croissant instead. It was HUGE, so I'd definitely say the portion size was generous. I really enjoyed the croissant itself, although the hazelnut spread tasted a little off to me personally. The latte was also just okay. It was good just not great. Not sure I would return for +$100 breakfast for 2 (not including tip). We were seated on the sidewalk next to the fresh flowers and under an umbrella. Comely, popular and quite busy French Bistro on the south side of Coronado City. Loved my jambon sandwich and soup, very tasty. However what I came for was the signature hot chocolate served in a spiral croissant with a side of fresh whipped cream and strawberries. Heavenly. So much sugar that I decided to take a Mike walk to the Coronado Ferry Landing. The service is excellent. They work really hard and are able to maintain a friendly and hospitable atmosphere. I was impressed. Coronado city, which is also an island, is a great place to explore before or after you dine at Little Frenchie. I suggest you take a walk afterwards to burn of the sugar high. Oh my goodness I have been seeing their hot chocolate croissant online and oh my gosh not only was that delicious but all their food was amazing and our server Sokol was such a bright light. Parking is tricky in the area so I would definitely recommend arriving early, and reservations are highly recommended. Our server Sokol was the star of our visit. He was super attentive, highly understanding of my husband's gluten allergy, and was a great conversationalist. Made reservations in advance because it's impossible to get a table with a weekend walk-in. Considering how busy they are they manage it well with limited seating. Had to try the hot chocolate croissant, the hot chocolate was decadent and delicious. Very sweet and perfect for dipping the croissant into. Also ordered a slice of quiche which was tasty, but seemed a little less than fresh, and had a couple of cloth fuzzies on it. Overall was good though. My husband really enjoyed his vanilla latte. He has celiac so he got the Buckwheat crepe which was labeled GF on the menu. It has a lot of smoked salmon, which was not his favorite. Through this process I learned they have mimosas, fresh squeezed juice (recommend the orange juice!), and their signature hot chocolate (that you can get IN a croissant!). We started off with their orange juice and the baguette with butter. Refreshing to start. My husband got the Herb Omelette. It was delicious! The herbs and the creme fraîche inside of it was super flavorful. I got the croque madame and just as I said last time this may be the best one I've had. Thick. Savory. Sweet. Perfection! For both is us we subbed salad with potatoes (highly recommend!). I asked for mine to be crispy and they CAME THROUGH. Divine. Next time will get more of their pastries as they are homemade. They have a pastry board which we will definitely do next time around! Lovely second visit to Frenchie. Katie was a great server. I was bummed at first that they didn't have any salads anymore with their BOMB truffle vinaigrette. AND they are a French restaurant but can't make kirs - cuz they don't have a liquor license. And on top of that, the Parisian gnocchi dish which looks so appetizing on their website (with chanterelle mushroom, sweet potato and hazelnut butter) had been replaced with one that had just... artichokes. I love pretty much any kind of vegetable - except artichokes! I think Katie thought I was going to be That Customer when I asked if they could still do something with the truffle vinaigrette, and if they could make the gnocchi any other way but with artichokes! But once I got my food -- and wine pairings instead of kir - I was happy as a clam and so was she LOL. We got: baguette: very delicious, though it's $10 for half a baguette with great butter, so we ended up getting a second one which then seems a little excessive. Wine pairings - and food: I love that every dish here is listed with a wine pairing. I decided to go all out and trust the kitchen. So I started with the JARDIN SALAD, which I was afraid would be boring and flavorless. But it is HUGE and fresh (seriously, you want to split this with 2-3 people or if it's only 1 you're going to have a boatload of salad left). They put on some extra tarragon for me - and someone in the kitchen knew how to make the old truffle vinaigrette and put it on the side (ayyy!). The salad was very tasty with its normal champagne vinagriette without it, but I dipped the carrots and watermelon radishes in the extra truffle dressing and was thrilled. They paired the salad with a white Burgundy from Domaine Frantz Chagnoleau. Not a wine I'd get on its own - but worked beautifully with the salad. Entree: Oh! My! God! This 'Parisian gnocchi' is amazing - NOT heavy little hockey pucks like your typical Italian gnocchi - but the lightest, airiest, browned & sauteed little pillows - and then the pesto sauce was amazing. And Katie and the kitchen hooked me up with root vegetables from another dish (heirloom carrots) to replace the artichokes (did I mention I love pretty much every vegetable beside artichokes)? So I was thrilled with the dish. AND the wine pairing with this course - a St. Emillion Grad Cru, Chateau Lassegue, was AMAZING. I drink a lot of inexpensive Bordeaux and I was like, this is what a $22 glass should taste like. I couldn't finish it because the bread, salad, white Burgundy, carrots and gnocchi were already a lot for one palate - and this is not a wine you chug down. But it was super interesting - one site says it has "Flowers, cherries, herbs, licorice, mint, cocoa, and tobacco form the core of this medium-bodied, soft, forward, supple, elegant and vibrant wine, ending with sweet, red berries, spice, and spearmint" - & yes, there was a lot going on. Overall, we had a really lovely time. Katie had several tables to handle but our food came out fast, and the kitchen was exceptionally kind in adjusting the gnocchi dish for me and whipping up some of that CRACK truffle vinaigrette. The wine pairings were fantastic, the sidewalk is not too hectic, and the patio heaters were adjustable so we could have a wee bit of heat but not too much. Well...I was looking forward to dining at Little Frenchie for the first time but they were experiencing difficulties in the kitchen and you can only order a select items of cold dishes. Went here specifically for the European Hot (drinking) Chocolate. For the experience do the whole shebang, get it in the cinnamon croissant, get the whipped cream and strawberries, and then next time just get the pot of hot choccy! It was decadent. It wasn't overly sweet an it was THICK. I had been specifically looking for something just like that and was so pleased and satisfied. This place is NOT cheap though. For this drinking chocolate experience it was $28 I think... I ordered their herb omelette and opted for the caviar addition (this was a $28 addition) I don't do this often but it was our anniversary and I splurged. I also added bacon into the omelette and they use Boursin cheese. It only comes with that side salad, NO bread, NO potatoes... it was like a $$$$ dish. It was admittedly delicious! The caviar I savored. It went so well with the omlette and cheese... I'm glad I added bacon as it made it more filling only change is I would have asked for them to make back extra crispy and to have diced it they put 2 full strips in... It was odd needing a knife for a fluffy omelette! Husband got the classic American breakfast (not pictured) we were blown away by the brekkie potatoes they were amazing and enough to allow me to have some with my eggs but next time I'd skip the salad and ask for the potatoes instead! We were really excited to try Little Frenchie after hearing so much hype, so we made reservations and went on a busy Friday night. We were seated within a reasonable time, and I want to start by saying that everyone we interacted with was very friendly, pleasant, and clearly trying their best. That said, it was obvious the restaurant was completely in over its head with the volume of people that night. Everything took a very long time, and food was served very out of order, which made the experience frustrating--especially for a restaurant at this price point. I personally wasn't impressed with the French wine selection, but I understand that's simply what they choose to offer. What did surprise me was the very small pour for the price. It is what it is, but it didn't feel like a great value. We ordered hot chocolate for our boys, which somehow kept getting forgotten. We had to ask several times, and it eventually came out after dinner, which was disappointing for kids who had been waiting patiently. The biggest letdown of the night was my husband's scallops. He said they were the worst scallops he's ever had--rubbery and unpleasant. He normally never sends food back, but this was truly inedible. To the restaurant's credit, they did refund the dish and remake it, and the second version was much better. We appreciated that they tried to make it right and even offered dessert. However, timing was still a major issue. The scallops came out a good 15 minutes after my entrée, while our kids' meals arrived much earlier. Speaking of which, their "kids" noodles were oddly served piping hot in a cast-iron dish, which felt inappropriate and potentially unsafe for a children's meal. For such an expensive dining experience, the kitchen and service flow really need better organization and pacing. Had they not remade the scallops and acknowledged the issue, this would have easily been a one-star review. I truly hope they can get their timing and execution dialed in, because it is a very cute French café! read more

I've been missing French cuisine after being in France last summer. Saw this gem on social media and I had to try it! It was the hot chocolate poured into a croissant that got me! It didn't disappoint! Served with a lovely and large helping of thick vanilla whipped cream. Hands down the best hot chocolate I've had in a long time. Then I ordered the beef hash. That was devine! Served in a small skillet dish-full of wonderful flavors! My +1 had the Croque Madame. I had a bite and it was so perfectly cooked. Had a table outside with a view of Hotel Coronado.
