    Donovan's Favorites In San Diego
    Andy R.

Stumbled into this gem following a Padres game and then a trip to Little Italy where this wonderful place is located......let me rethink this, I'm not sure if this place is so spectacular or if our experience was so exemplary because of Donovan the bartender.......not only was he incredibly knowledgeable about all the wines and knew exactly what would tickle our palates, but as visitors, he took the time to share his favorites list of San Diego......don't let his young looks fool you, Donovan knows his shit!!!

A very cool little spot in Little Italy for wine lovers. They have a very great and friendly staff. The selection is huge and they have great deals that vary depending on the time. Great place to come and hang out and have some great wine.

I really like this wine spot in Little Italy, very centrally located and in a very cute old house. The seating areas are diverse - outside on the patio and alley, first floor indoor area and upstairs. It has a very comfy homey feel with quirky wine sayings on the walls. The diversity of wine is pretty good as well and on this particular visit, I got the red sangria. It was good but I personally like mine a little sweeter. Service here has always been great and the bartenders are helpful and friendly. I do notice that there is some confusion when people walk in as to whether they order at the downstairs bar first or if they sit down and order. I highly recommend, it's a great choice if you like wine!

Cute little hidden Gem! They are known for Sangria. Upstairs has board games with a view of the outside. Highly recommend!

My friend and I came in for a quick glass of wine but stayed for Nico! She did such a lovely job at suggesting different wines we would like based on our different tastes, that we ended up staying for 3 glasses. Not only was the wine great, so was the conversation. She gave us a lot of good info & tips for our first time in San Diego. Shoutout to Nico for such a fun experience!

I have been wanting to come to M Winehouse for so long. Located in the heart of Little Italy, this little wine shop is housed in what looks like a literal two story home. It's got cottage vibes on the outside and quirky 50-something woman vibes on the inside. You'll know what I mean when you walk in. The walls are littered with posters of cheesy sayings. Those ones that give sassy vibes about coffee, wine or age. There are two stories. You order from the bar downstairs and can sit either downstairs or upstairs. There are a bunch of board games upstairs. The upstairs area is better for larger groups while the downstairs has smaller seating options. They had a good selection of wines- all glasses at around $12-18.

Visiting from LA we were walking around the area and saw this cute wine bar that resembled an old house from back in the days (the plaque said it's a historical landmark from1888). There was a sign on the sidewalk that said "oh look, it's wine o'clock" and that was the perfect time to get some wine. They had some options for seating which was the Porch, Bar area or attic, so we decided to head upstairs to attic. We had the space all to ourselves which was great. I love the shabby chic decor with sayings and drawings in frames all over the walls and a shelf full of games for us to play. This space was so cozy and inviting. We chose the table closest to the window with open air, watching the people go by as we played dominoes and enjoyed each others company. The server who was super nice and energetic, came up to take our order and serve them. Honestly, if they served actual food, other than the charcuterie board..., we probably would've stayed longer. It's like we didn't want to leave but we were too hungry. Service: great Cleanliness: great I would come back when I visit SD even though I'm not much of a wine drinker, but my friends are .

Loving this little wine house. Go in, order at the bar and grab a seat. Lots of options to select from. Also has beers and sangria. There's bar seating, table seating, upstairs and a little porch in front. Seating is limited, but people come and go so I've never had a problem. I wish I could sit in the porch, but usually the people who get lucky enough to claim does seats never leave! Little dim, very intimate vibes. Interesting decor. Bathroom is walking through a little hall outside the house which is actually kind of creepy, I'd recommend going with someone.

Their signature Red Sangria! It was so good!

So dang CUUUTE!!! This little wine bar is absolutely adorbs. And not only that; they have a nice selection of wine too. Service was good albeit a tad slow since there was only one gentleman manning the fort on a busy Saturday night. However, that man was busting his arse to keep up with the crowds, and acknowledged everyone that came in. The interior space is small but comfortable. They have a patio parklet right in front that seems to be way more popular than their indoor bar. I loved reading all of the funny quotes on the walls. You know, those funny wine quotes that you'll often find in souvenir shops?! Well, they have a slew of those. They carry wine from all over the world here (France, Italy, Austria, Spain, California, etc). You can taste a splash of anything off of their menu before you commit to buying anything. You can purchase by the glass or bottle, and the prices are pretty reasonable considering that their bar is located right in the heart of Little Italy. The wine steward was really great in suggesting some wines to try based on my palate. I ended up having a few glasses of Pinot Noir and Zinfandel. I also enjoyed a scrumptious glass of their house made sangria! You guuuyyyyss.... their sangria is the shiiieeett! I wasn't going to get it until the wine steward convinced me. He was right. It was so fragrant and fruity. They're known for their house made sangria and rightfully so. It perfect to sip on when it hot outside. They have daily wine specials and they also carry light bites if you're hungry. Since I had planned on having dinner a few doors down, I just hung out and enjoyed the wine. I can see why this is a popular kick it spot. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a nice place to chill with some wine in Little Italy.

This spot may not look like a wine spot , It is this wine house has a very homely feel. It's like your home, right in the heat of little Italy in San Diego . I you want to relax, this is a great spot with good service. thank me later. Shaun Rossettos

This place is definitely small and quaint but it is such an awesome spot to grab a night cap glass of wine after dinner. They do have charcuterie boards you can order if you need a bite to eat but their wine selection is pretty great and quite extensive. Monica was our server running the show and she was very knowledgeable on what wines we should try. There is also an upstairs area that has games to enjoy with friends while you enjoy some vino.

I absolutely love this place! The historic setting (little house built in 1888) is just magical, and I found my new favorite wine there. The bartender asked us what kind of wine I liked, and from very little information he was able to recommend an absolutely fabulous wine from Tooth and Nail. I have since been back for a glass of it several times, and even bought a few bottles to take home. Truly a wonderful experience!

This time around, it was just the 3 of us, to chat over some wine and apps. Had their April featured Pinot, which was amazing (had 2 glasses). It's good to keep in mind that they only sell their flatbreads on certain days and unfortunately, they didn't serve it when we went. So, instead we had the crostinis, which is perfect if you want a little bit of everything, but not sure what to get. My friend got the chicken Caesar wrap, and it was a lot bigger than expected. First, I still really enjoy the Carruth Wine Garden. It is nice to have an outdoor space to drink wine right in the center of the city. In general there plenty of parking ,and it is dog friendly. As far as the wine, it is very good. I like some more than others. More recently, I have enjoyed the Unicorn Red Blend ( a longtime favorite) and the Syrah. I love that it is dog friendly, inside and out. My dog loves going there and she makes friends each time. A change that they made recently is that the main garden area is now child-free, which was a positive change in my options, as it had gotten a bit chaotic in the past with children not being very well supervised. The still have a family-friendly outdoor space. In the past, there was always live music when I came. I was there most recently on a Saturday evening and was disappointed that there was no music. Also, the prices have gone up ($18 per glass). Unfortunately, I found the pours to be somewhat inadequate, though it depended which staff member was pouring the wine. They do not allow for outside food, and only make certain dishes certain days of the week, which unfortunately doesn't allow for many options if you are hungry. Water is readily available inside and outside. All in all, it is a lovely place with good wine to come with friends and your 4-legged friends. It has gotten a bit pricey, and I do wish we could bring out own snacks, but I still enjoy going and am sure that I will be back.

So I turned around and stopped in. What I found was a quaint, tucked-away, almost inconspicuous spot delivering food and hospitality at a level that honestly borders on absurd for how unassuming it appears from the outside. The service was warm, polished, and intuitive without ever feeling pretentious. Hats off to both chefs, Christi and Mark for making me feel welcome. The wine pairings? Thoughtful, balanced, and exactly what you hope for from a restaurant that actually respects food. And then there's the burger. This thing reads like poetry: Ribeye and NY strip trim blend, cooked like a proper steak (medium rare, the only correct answer here), melted gouda, a soft house potato roll, all resting in a luxurious bordelaise sauce that would make a French chef nod in approval. Seriously. This is not a "burger joint burger." This is a chef-driven, butcher-minded expression of beef. Every bite tastes intentional. The bordelaise underneath ties the entire thing together with this deep, glossy richness that elevates it from comfort food into something bordering on fine dining. Places like this are why I still love discovering restaurants organically. No hype machine. No gimmicks. Just confidence, technique, restraint, and execution.
