This place was a one-and-done experience for us. Never again!!…read more My husband and I ended up here after the Dave Chappelle show because our original dinner plans fell through when the restaurant was fully booked. We should have made reservations, but at that point, all we wanted was a decent meal (nothing fancy) after a long workweek and then to head home. Unfortunately, a decent meal didn't happen. The food was some of the worst we've had in a long time. My husband actually spit food into his napkin, shook his head, and said, "I'm done." I've never seen him do that before. Several dishes were simply inedible. The mashed potatoes were bland and flavorless--how do you mess up mashed potatoes? The potato salad was equally bland and disappointing. The French onion soup had very little broth and was overloaded with a thick layer of hardened cheese. Overall, the food tasted cheap and poorly prepared, yet the prices suggested otherwise. It felt like diner-quality food being sold at premium prices. What made the experience even more frustrating was the manager's response. He came to our table after hearing about our concerns, but instead of focusing on the quality issues we raised, he seemed more concerned that my husband refused to order a replacement meal. That spoke volumes about where the priorities were. The one bright spot was our server, who was attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the meal. No complaints regarding the server as he was extremely apologetic with our experience. To our surprise, the restaurant also added an automatic gratuity to our bill. Ironically, had that not been done, we likely would have tipped our server more because he was not the problem. The kitchen and management were. No, I didn't complain about the tip after I noticed it on our bill. We were over the experience and just wanted to pay and get the hell out of there. Save yourself the disappointment and spend your hard earned money elsewhere. We certainly wish we had. Gordon Ramsay, if you're looking for a future Kitchen Nightmares episode, this place could desperately use the help. P.S. A business name change is not going to help with the quality of the food. Do better and prove that you actually care about your customers, not just the $$.

Got their belly buster breakfast as I was super hungry. Two pancakes, 2 French toast, home fries, 3 eggs, 3 sausages, and 3 bacon for $16 currently. A heck of a price for so much good food. Had to get the pancakes to go as I was so stuffed! Overall, good prices, good classic diner food. If I'm up here again, I'll be sure to come back.

Servers were short staffed this day yet they were working the restaurant like pros. Vanilla milkshake didn't feel full but the vintage glass was cute. My BLT was solid they go heavy on the tomatoes though they had like 3 slices and fries were fresh and crispy the old school ketchup bottle really took me back. The chicken and waffles were loaded they surly don't skimp on the protein and fluffy Belgian waffle. Nice strips of bacon you really can't go wrong here. Our server (insert name tbd) bobbed and weaved with impeccable service. The vintage juke box, attractions for the kids and just that homely vibe has the locals coming back for more. I'll for sure come back and try Ed's famous chili when I get the chance

Now, years later, my wife and I would pass by the new 81 diner and would always say we needed to try it. We'll, today was the day. We stopped in for lunch, and aside from a gentleman waiting for his to-go order, we were known as the customers. I guess not a lot of people eat at 3 in the afternoon. The atmosphere was very nice. The tables, chairs and booths all fit the diner nicely. My cheesesteak sub was very tasty. Their menu said no substitutions, but they let me withhold the lettuce, tomatoes and onions, which I'm not fond of, so I'm glad they let me do that. Along that note, my wife ordered the BLT sandwich, and gave me some of the bacon, which was really good! Our friend George ordered the pizza burger, which also looked good, and he seemed to enjoy it. Their fresh cut fries were fantastic as well. If I had anything to complain about, it would be that the music being piped in was too modern for a classic diner atmosphere and wasn't something we were expecting. Hopefully that's something they will eventually change. Maybe next time we will stay long enough to try some of their desserts, which looked pretty good too. We will definitely be back soon.

The restaurant itself feels a little like a nursing home cafeteria. You order and pay on your way in. We chose the chicken tenders, roast beef and strip steak. Once you sit, they bring some of the sides and take drink orders. The sugar rolls are good, but I didn't really want any of the other starter sides - apple butter, cottage cheese, Cole slaw. I did try them just in case they were surprisingly good, but they were just meh. The chicken tenders look hand breaded but were a little dry and under seasoned. The roast beef was literally swimming in gravy. The flavor was fine, but for the price ($26), there are a million meals I enjoy more. Daughter enjoyed her strip steak but it also has zero seasoning. The main sides were buttered corn, fries and green beans. These were all edible but meh. The ice cream is Hersheys and they have a lot of flavors including unusual ones. The almond joy ice cream was my favorite part of the meal. We were also able to bring in a cake and they sliced and served it, which was very nice! We had 20 people across two tables and service is friendly and efficient. You pay the gratuity on the way in.
