My friends and I drove up from Laurel, MD to visit the Strawbridge Shrine (review coming soon) outside of New Windsor. We had a whole list of potential lunch spots for when we left there; two in New Windsor and some on the way back to Laurel. We ended up choosing UME because of the bigger variety of food on offer and we were so glad we went! Parking is free, on the street. There are probably times you'd have to park farther but we arrived just as they opened at 11 so it was easy. Décor is fun - like a diner I might have gone to as a child in the 60's. The "public face" who seated us (they actually told me this) is the most welcoming and affable person, who grasped our lady date vibe immediately and was just as fun as the place. I will warn you right off - too many amazing sounding choices on the menu! Also, it pays to ask for more detailed info: I don't like horseradish and it turns out the tiger sauce on the Matty Melt is made with that. Our person (I never caught their name, dangit!) offered to customize by having it made with plain mayo. Sold! So, C ordered the cheesesteak sub, E chose the turkey bacon ranch panini, and I did get the Matty Melt, sans horseradish. We each cut our sammie in half, then a half in half again, then shared all around. For those of you who don't want to math, we each had 1/4 of the other two flavors, plus 1/2 of our own and it was a delightful sampler! All of the ingredients were so fresh and so flavorful. The lettuce on them was not wilted like shredded lettuce can get so easily. Tomato bursting with flavor, crispy bacon, and the steak! wow! We all turned down chips or other starches, but we each got a dill spear which was tasty. Even sharing out the food, it was too much for me for one meal so I have lunch for tomorrow :D Prices are right in line with any other casual dining experience. $14.99 for a really good hoagie or panini is perfect. We treated our friend and split the rest of the bill in half, so it was less than $30 for me. Toss in the cash tip which happily C always does, too, and it was still only $40! I often say this but I'm very serious - if it wasn't so far from home, since I'm not in Laurel but 20 minutes from there - I would make the trek again and again to eat here. And you know what, I might just do it anyway! I have loads of time when g'kids are in school and I could easily drive up just for lunch... Hmmm. read more

Amazing food!! I work in traffic management and I was out working all day outside Uncle Matty's. The smells were amazing. I went in to use the bathroom and the server was very kind and welcoming. The bathrooms were also very clean and charming (lovely decor!). I ordered the Matty Melt with jalapeños and tiger sauce on the side. Best off the beaten path to eat in Carroll County. Don't be fooled by the low key decor, or the single page plastic covered menu. The food, is fantastic. Try the cream of crab soup, which will leave you in ecstacy. Then entrees and sandwiches will please your pallet, and leave you enormously satisfied. And definitely have some room left over for desert, which are most excellent! The wait staff is very friendly and efficient, and you will have an enjoyable experience. read more

Many know that I have many meal destinations. Places that produce plates test are so mouth wateringly ideal that I'll sometimes travel many miles or hours to them. Uncle Matty's is bc such a place. Don't let the simple, unadorned exterior fool you. The food here is magnificent! Easily the best burgers I've had in the state of Maryland. Although it's not a menu, do yourself a favor and have it topped in their pork BBQ. The beer menu is also diverse and has outstanding quality. The owner should give seminars on the hiring, training, and cultivation of restaurant staff. I can't think of any other place that so consistently provides their level of courteous friendly service. Whoa. Came to Uncle Matty's based on some yelp reviews. It's this tiny little hole in the wall place in a small town and I loved everything about it. Caitie was our waitress and she was adorable and full of recommendations. She did a great job! Kudos to her. We started with the boom boom shrimp. A tad spicy and fried as near perfect as possible. Next I got the hot turkey sandwich. The turkey is roasted in house and the gravy is made here too. I added gravy fries for $2.99 and I literally wanted to lick the gravy from the bowl. It is clearly the star of the show and something I would eat everyday for a week and not think anything of it until I peeled myself out of my sweatpants and realized I gained 10lbs! My husband got the cheese steak with the ghost pepper cheese and it too was amazing. Never frozen, super fresh everything. Really nice find in this random local we happened upon. Take-out or eat-in casual? Choose Uncle Matty's! We haven't been at this location in MANY years, but after a name change and menu change, we are impressed with our carry-out order! The food is just plain good, so if you are on the fence for fast food or a step above, either way, choose Uncle Matty's Eatery. The Caprese Panini was spot on with a good tasting tomato this time of year, flanked by quality mozarella and a nice basil pesto. The Italian cold sub was fresh and a step above, and we topped off our order with feta fries, which were tasty. The fresh cut potato chips needed a little toast in a 425 oven for 5 minutes by the time we got home, but they were perfect and so flavorful. We will return! Everything I have had here has been delicious... Recently I had a Caprese Panini. That sandwich was every bit as good as anything I've gotten in the best Italian restaurant... The cheese was very fresh and the basil and balsamic reduction with tomato was perfect, especially on the toasted Panini. I wish I knew where they got their pickles because I have never tasted a better pickle than the ones they serve at this restaurant. I'm not sure what it is... Maybe they make their own. I didn't think the food was as great as the reviews personally. Went there on an early Saturday, lunch time with 2 tables besides us. My wife and I ordered two bacon burgers, an order of fries, 2 soft drinks, and a hotdog. 45 minutes for it to come out, and it was mediocre. My food and service was great. I had the Matty's melt which was a rib eye panini that came with house-made chips. I was told that I could not substitute fries for the chips-even for an upcharge. I ordered the fries knowing that it was more food than I could consume but I wanted fries. The reason for the 3 stars is because I was charged .50 for a side of mayonnaise and could not substitute my chips for fries-what a waste of food. This place is a hidden gem in New Windsor. Can't wait for warmer weather so we can sit outside on their newly appointed dining-deck area, with a roof for shady comfort. Street parking only. The food is very good. We are big fans of a hearty cup of cream of crab. They have a tasty version. I will say the last time we ordered it, it was thick. Needed to be a little more like bisque, and a little less like applesauce-- the consistency, not the flavor. Also I ordered sandwiches both times we have been there. There was more bread than necessary. I ended up not eating quite a bit of the roll on both occasions. Suggestion: beef up your meat-to-bread ratios, or just make smaller rolls! Our first visit was 3 months ago, then we went back a month ago; I had the cheesesteak sub the first time and the Panini Caprice (I think!) the second time. We love the atmosphere and the historic setting. Matty's is on our list of new discoveries we will continue to visit and enjoy. The staff is always super friendly and very attentive. Uncle Matty's Eatery in New Carrollton, Maryland, is a great place to stop for a quick bite whilst traveling on business. Two of us came here today for lunch after a meeting. The coffee is a little anemic for us full lead, regular coffee drinkers who lean French and Italian roast, but the coffee was warm and fresh none the less. I had the bleu cheese chicken panini which was A-OK. My companion had the Simone. Both were pronounced delicious. There was also a pickle. Yay, pickles! One bone to pick: Uncle Matty's was cold! There is no vestibule so the opening and closing of the door made this place freezing. Or maybe I just need thicker socks? Probably the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at. My wife asked about the calamari and the waitress told us it was great, fresh and made to order. I guess frozen is considered fresh. Tiny pieces with huge amounts of batter sitting in a pool of oil. Wife complained that it was horrible and the waitress just said she was sorry, and still billed us. 3/4 of it was uneaten. I had a gyro that had so much sauce it was a mess. Total lack of flavor. Inside the restaurant it smelled pretty bad. We should have listened to our instincts when we got there and just walked out. This place doesn't look like much in a little town without a stop light but make no mistake, this is a hidden gem inside Carroll County. When you walk inside you immediately notice that they have a little bar for your thirst. Not very big but it does have a TV and I'm sure locals frequent this bar since there isn't much in their town. I'm here to eat tho. The fries were ordered plain, lots of toppings to add if ya want, with a side of ranch and ketchup. Outstanding batter and fry for these tasty taters. One could come here just for their fries. I came here just to order an Italian sub but there are plenty of good items on their menu. Need to have some of their hotdog creations as a start. The sub came out and I was impressed with how it looked. The bread was soft and good. The tomato, and I'm sure other items here, was sourced from Local Homestead Products which is a farm down the street in New Windsor. (you must go there) The deli meat was piled high and also quality. This was a really good Italian sub very well made. The service is super friendly. The place is really clean and all about Carroll County and MD inside with their decor. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, restaurant was cold, as in "no heat" cold. Lots to choose from but $15 for a cheesesteak is pricey. There are no sides to choose from for the entrees; only vegetable and starch of the day. Took forever to get our food and we were the only ones there save for the 4 people at the bar. 30 minutes later I went to check on our food to find the server coming out of the kitchen with it who replied to me commenting about the wait about the food cooking to goodness. I then asked if they had to wait for the chef to get there. My father's pasta was barely cooked; not even al dente. My chicken caprese was tasteless. The roasted red potatoes were cubed like has browns, undercooked and tasteless. The broccoli was the only thing I could eat. $63 spent on food we couldn't eat. Now I have to go home and find something to eat. Oh, and when I said that my dish was horrible and tasteless, he quickly brought the check as requested, but took absolutely nothing off the bill or offered to get me something else. I don't know why it's taken me a year to try uncle Matty's but boy am I glad I did. I finally found a scratch kitchen up here in Westminster!!! Everything was fresh. Everything was homemade. Nothing was frozen. You can't beat that. I'll start with the fact that I'm a stickler for cleanliness. On that front uncle Matty's nailed it. The restaurant was super clean and cozy. Even the bathrooms were clean!!! I loved our server Katie. She literally made the experience for us. She was enthusiastic and seemed to genuinely take pride in the restaurant. Now the food - I ordered the turkey panini Which was dynamite especially because it was real turkey and not that processed crap. My dad had the cheese steak which looked like a total winner and my mom had the Greek salad. But I think the homemade chips were the star. Omg. I've never had better. And the fries... perfection! My only gripe was that everything was luke warm. But it's a minor complaint. Besides that I'm coming back as often as I can especially since they serve alcohol! We make a point of eating here every time we visit the Serrv store in New Windsor. The food is very good! The soups, potato chips and everything are house made. Make sure to try whatever soup is on for the day. This time we decided to go for sandwiches and had Chicken Cheesesteaks with homemade chips and a half-done pickle. The chips are so tasty! In the sandwiches the meat is plentiful, as are the fried onions, mushrooms, peppers or whatever else you'd like. We both found ours to be delicious! Uncle Matty's is reliably great. They have a good menu and offer interesting specials. I have been here with my family several times. I enjoy the cheesesteak and my wife likes the shrimp salad sandwich. Their French fries are really good too. Today I tried one of the specials, short rib enchiladas, and loved it. Just went to Uncle Matty's for the first time with the family and it was great! How have we not been there before?!?! Family-friendly, our server was totally on it--friendly and attentive, just wonderful. The clientele was local and it felt good--neighborhood restaurant for the win!! Food was amazing! I got some specialty hot dogs and let me tell you they were LEGIT! And I'm from the upper mid-west where we take our hot dogs seriously! So that's a huge compliment coming from me. Absolute gem of a find. The crab dip and cream of crab soup were creamy, delicious and melt in your mouth good with large chunks of crab. The kids burgers were amazing, the hot dog selection is unlike anywhere else and were made to tasty perfection.. The Cubano sandwich, though not entirely authentic was good enough I'd make the hour drive back out to have it again. We went to Uncle Matty's for dinner tonight, we have always had great service from Katey and Kayla, tonight, we were unfortunate to have experienced the worst service we have ever witnessed from Jordyn..... if this had been our first visit to Uncle Matty's, we would never go back but because of Katey and Kayla, we will go again but if Jordyn is assigned to our table, we will ask for a different server and if they can't accommodate us, we will leave because I will not be treated as rudely as we were treated tonight, ever again. The food was great, as usual but the service was AWFUL!!!!! What's worse is we tried to talk to Jordyn to give her an opportunity to either apologize or at least say that maybe she was having an "off day" but she interrupted us to say "I'm sorry you feel that way" and turned and walked away.......wait....what? I asked her (from across the dining room) if she was related to the owner because there is no way that this would be tolerated and she said (with an attitude) "No, I'm not related to the owner"...... My husband and I were delighted when we heard Uncle Matty's was opening up in our small little quiet country town. When we first went there, we were greeted by friendly owners and wait staff! They have all sorts of great and different bottled brews at the bar that my husband and I love experimenting and the bartender Bridget can literally come up with anything your heart desires. She's also a great waitress and an all around pleasure to be around. The owner, Matty and his wife, are extremely personable and a lot of fun to talk too. We never leave there feeling hungry or bored! Their food is TO DIE FOR! What I love about Uncle Matty's is they teamed up with a local farmer who also has his own business to supply the fresh ingredients they use with all of their meals! It's an extra special touch to know that you're eating food that you know where it comes from. My husband loves their wraps and burgers. And I love their Caprese Panini! It's my absolute favorite and I've even had the Caprese salad which if you're looking for a lighter meal, it's super delicious! You CANNOT forget their home made chips! Oh my goodness, my husband and I fight over them they are so good. And I guess I'll let you in on my guilty pleasure, the chocolate cake! It's chilled and has the best chocolate ganache ever! So yummy! Another thing I love is, Matty lets an antique dealer set some things around the restaraunt that you are able to buy. We own a farmhouse and love the "rustic" feel and have found quite a few great things ranging from mason jars to old tools that they have displayed around the place. Stop in and check them out. Splendid!! A great find after a day of winery hopping. My wife and I started with the feta fries. I didn't think these would be a big deal, after all, it's fries with feta. They were fantastic! If I had one critique it would be that these weren't hand-cut, but honestly, who cares! Delicious. My wife had the Spinach pie with a side of asparagus and roasted potatoes. She was very pleased with the dish. I had a simple Gyro with house-made chips. It was outstanding. The Gyro was meaty and the tzatziki was fresh and delicious. The house-made chips are made to order!! They were still hot from the fryer! They have a decent selection of beers and wines. One small note and I hope the owners see this. It would be helpful if you had a printed beer list. Our waitress struggled to name all of the bottles on hand and she shouldn't have to do that. There should be a list.
