Was in the mood for a light lunch whilst in the area for work and naturally, I turned to Yelp. That search sent me to an unassuming little sushi joint and since then I have added it to my regular lunch rotation when in town. Walk in and be both greeted and seated. They have quite the menu and offerings but for my visits, I typically stick to their sushi menu. My go-to's have been avocado rolls and veggie rolls and they've always come out super fresh and fast, I also go with the seaweed salad and it barely beats the rolls coming out...I said fast! Each visit and order has been both delicious and filling without leaving me feeling lethargic or slow the rest of the day. Service has also been friendly and attentive to my needs, ensuring that I am satisfied and well taken care of. Short, sweet, and to the point: Little Katana has quickly found its way into my lunch time rotation and I quickly have made my way onto their list of regulars. Ok - I won't gate-keep Little Katana any longer! We've come here at least 10x over the past couple of years, usually to take advantage of one of the best HHs in DFW but also for lunch and dinner. The quality is consistently good and the prices are excellent. We always order the sashimi appetizer, and it usually comes with 2 pieces of hamachi, 2 pieces of salmon and 3 pieces of akami tuna. Tonight, however, the chefs must have been feeling extra generous and instead of akami they included chu-toro! The app comes w choice of wine or beer for $15. The dragon roll comes w eel and avocado on a California roll and is a huge serving, as is the tempura appetizer ($7) which includes 3 shrimp, onion, zucchini and sweet potato. Our server, Jenny, was so friendly and helpful. Her timing was perfect and whenever we needed anything she was right there. I have been to Little Katana twice now and I definitely plan on going back. Each time I have went, the staff was extremely polite with amazing service. On my first trip, the restaurant was so busy there were only three open tables. The second time I went, I chose to go later in the afternoon on a weekday and my friend and I had the place almost completely to ourselves. The atmosphere is very nice here where I think it would be good for a small group or a date. It has the right balance between an intimate classy establishment and a casual meet up place for a few friends. I went around Christmas time and the decor was really cute and not overdone. The food was amazing, and I would say it was reasonably priced. My dad loves this place because of how healthy fish is and that he can eat it with his special diet plan due to medical reasons. I have also tried the crystal roll (no rice), eel, and tuna, all of which were amazing. I absolutely plan on visiting again. read more

It's a tall order any time I'm told that a certain restaurant will undoubtedly become my new favorite place once I've been there. But since that's how Little Katana was sold to me, they were under extra scrutiny during my recent visit on a busy Saturday night. Things were off to a good start walking into a clean and cozy, minimalistic dining area. I also liked that they have an extensive menu which includes every type of sushi and sashimi you could want and more. Everyone in our group of 4 has such different preferences that we ended up ordering a decent variety of dishes. The Yellowtail Heaven appetizer and a sashimi boat were first. The boat's contents are kind of a mystery since they're simply described as "chef's choice" on the menu. It sounded interesting, yet a little worrisome at the same time, but we were feeling adventurous so we went for it. Fortunately, everything in it turned out to be wonderful, as was the Yellowtail Heaven. The rolls that followed -rainbow, spider, crunch, fire and shrimp tempura - were all equally as delicious. Each was made with noticeably fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. Sake was a must so we got a bottle of peach and a bottle of pineapple to share. These, too, were tasty and provided some nice sweetness to complement the savory food and salty soy sauce. Even though it was a fantastic meal all around, I can't give them 5 stars due to the steep prices. Our bill came to nearly $375 after tax and tip. Now I'm not opposed to paying more for high quality food and service, but when it's a king's ransom I have to draw the line. Tried Little Katana while in Dallas for a couple of days based on the good reviews. Stopped by on a quiet Monday evening and had their Chirashi Don. Interesting presentation as the Chirashi I have had has been served together with the fish served on top of the sushi rice. Here it is served side-by-side. Positive was the fish was fresh and tasty. Downside was the sashimi was sliced pretty thinly so the total amount of fish was a little light. Service was good. 3-1/2 stars for the Chirashi, rounded up due to the solid service. read more

Great find in our backyard. Nestled in the back of a shopping center, this place is always busy and now I know why. Really good Japanese and Asian food and the servers work really hard to ensure you have what you need. The sizzling dumplings have amazing flavor and are paired perfectly with the two sauces. I was greeted warmly upon entering the restaurant, and the service throughout my meal was top notch. I started with the Sizzling Dumpling Miso Soup, which frankly, was a little disappointing. The three pan fried beef dumplings became soggy in the soup, and there was no tofu, scallion, or wakame seaweed, which is included with their basic miso soup. The Escolar Heaven was a lovely dish of sashimi with a light lime sauce, but the portion was really small for $19.95. On the other hand, the Spicy Tuna over Crispy Rice was a pretty filling dish, packed with spicy flavor from the sriracha soy sauce base, spicy tuna and jalapeño. The spice was not overpowering though, paired with creamy avocado and uniquely textured crispy rice. Very good. Lieu made me a Gun Boat cocktail, which was sort of their version of a margarita - a tequila and lime cocktail. Dining at Little Katana is an experience. Lofi Japanese jazz/electronic from jujubes, Potau, Blazo and UFO fills the background, the interior reminds you a little of Japan (with cool wine housings) and the food is excellent. I got the gyoza, wagyu beef on a lava rock (where you use the rock to cook the beef), the Osaka ramen, sushi selections and a mango cheesecake for dessert. Service was also very prompt and thorough. They even made a special iced green tea beverage for me even though it wasn't officially on the menu. Highly recommended experience for sure! read more

I need to update my "always good" five star review. I found out tonight "it's not". The $38 sea bass was by far the worse sea bass I've ever had. Texture bad. No taste. Watery. The "sauce" on top seemed like an afterthought and did nothing to enhance the taste. And the side of wasabi mashed potatoes seemed a bit overpowering for the fish. Our waitress was sweet and mixed the tower up into the shape of a heart for us. The other rolls were okay, but didn't make as big of an impression at the mango roll.
