I ordered the daily bento box today that comes with salmon and chicken teriyaki, but the store was so busy today and it's only the lady working and a man in the kitchen. My chicken teriyaki is not well cooked and the chicken And salmon does not have enough teriyaki sauce on it. I could tell that the lady was very stressed out because of the many orders she has today which also makes the food not come out good and the service sucks. Absolutely delicious. I'm a huge sushi fan, and this place is literally "as good as it gets." I was in town for a conference on stumbled upon Maki Boy on the way to the airport. It's in a strip mall, which I've decided is the best place to find killer ethnic food. My servers were incredibly friendly (they even poured me a free coconut/pineapple smoothie as I rolled my luggage with me out the door!), the secluded booths feel cozy and private, and the food... huge portions for a cheap price. I had a yellowtail handroll (gorgeous and delicious) followed by the unagi (eel) bowl, which was filled with eel, crab, and other goodness. The Korean side dish bar is also a blast. I came in for lunch on a Friday not knowing what to expect. I saw a picture of their eel donburi bowl on Yelp and I knew I had to get it! I like that they offer a bar with sides. Theres broccoli, sprouts, ginger and etc...they might have different sides from time to time. Lets talk about the unagi donburi bowl. If you like teriyaki eel sushi roll then you will like this bowl. I love this place and now I can never go here because they are ALWAYS CLOSED. Hours were closing at 3:30. Which is stupid early to begin with. Then it was 3. Then 230. Now its two. Everytime I check and think that I'm for sure going to be able to make it then whaddaya know; they closed another half hour earlier. Amazing is simply an understatement here. Maki Boy is always a great option for lunch or dinner. Fast service, sweet server, affordability, and a welcoming cute lil' ambiance to boot. One of the best aspects of any Maki Boy establishment is their complimentary pickled vegetables bar, banchan-style. You got kimchi, radishes, bean sprouts, seasoned broccoli (my fav), cucumbers (2nd fav), and more to choose from. I usually end up getting the Chef's Special Bento Box if I can't make up my mind. It always amazes me how it consistently fills me up and is such a great value for your $8.50 (before tax). They change it up sometimes, but usually, there's a filet fish, some cheesy baked seafood side, a handful of sushi pieces, salad (sometimes), white rice, and shrimp tempura. It comes with a medium fountain drink too. Another good option to order is the tonkatsu (pork cutlet) which can also be subbed with chicken or fish. The crispiness is always awesome, and portion size again is HUGE. I'm looking forward to trying the unagi donburi (eel rice bowl) and some sushi rolls later on. Something I LOVE getting here is the unagi donburi (eel rice bowl), which has a delicately baked buttery-amazingness eel seasoned with this delicious teriyaki-like eel sauce. The rice bowl comes with slices of avocado, crab meat, crispy panko pieces, nori and tobiko. Just divine. Worth the $13 for sure, treat yo' self! The servers used to give us complimentary smoothies after each meal, though they've stopped that a while back. They each taste delish, though. Recently, I came back in JUST for the smoothie; specifically, you can mix 3 fruits but I had mango + strawberry which was yum. The bf had mixed blueberry + mango + strawberry and that was better than I thought. They both hit the spot if you're craving something cold and fruity. The server even recommended the triple berry yogurt smoothie, if you dig that Asian yogurt at those supermarkets. I'm def going to have to try that one day. Anyway, one more aspect I loved about this new location is the seating. There's a long row of individual booths to separate you and your guests from the rest of the restaurant. This location is larger than the Irving restaurant. The food is equally delicious. The menus are slightly different, but you are sure to find something yummy. I love the private, high-walled booths with a call button for service. My jobche was good. It came with rice, which was not necessary, but I do not complain about leftovers. My hubby's udon with shrimp tempura was perfect slurpy rainy day food. Our appetizer sushi was fresh. I really enjoyed the complimentary pickled veggie bar. I visited it twice! Ever since returning from Japan, I have been craving a big bowl of udon. So glad Maki Boy opened close to our home! Upon entering, I was greeted immediately. The employee was super sweet and personable! Unfortunately, they did not have sushi at noon :( I had planned on getting the bowl of udon and some sushi, but oh well. Maybe next time. The restaurant inside has the feel of restaurants in Japan, complete with neon signs, clocks with plastic sushi for numbers, and the famous Maneki Neko on signs and statues. Loved it! Another employee (owner?) came out of the kitchen and chatted with me for a while. I really liked the "family" vibe of Maki Boy. I ordered my udon and headed to the little free appetizer bar (see photo.) Yummy, yummy kimchi, bean sprouts, spicy broccoli and pickled cucumbers. So good! The udon arrived to the table quickly and smelled wonderful! I like my udon with a little kick, so I grabbed the jar of Togarashi and heavily sprinkled it into the bowl. Yumm! If you ask if it was as good as Japan's udon, it wasn't. But it was a close second! It was hot, comforting, and the udon noodles had a nice texture. It gave me the "udon fix" that I needed! I finished the meal with some pickled ginger- I could eat that by the bowl-full. Great meal for $8 and super nice staff. Maki Boys has some very good sushi and Japanese/Korean cooked dishes. We tried a variety of udon, katsu, jambong and teriyaki dishes and they were good. Their dishes have a lot of meat and big portion sizes. Service is very good and I loved their banchan. I love their kimchi and their broccoli. This place is an unassuming restaurant with above average food and service and reasonable prices. read more

Alright. So my sister has never eaten sushi before, so I decided to take her here since it had nice reviews on yelp and I am new to the DFW area. We were the only people there (about 3pm on a Friday). When we walked in the waitress/hostess greeted and sat us down right away in one of their private booths. I told her this was my sister's first sushi experience. The waitress took her time and explained the different varieties of sushi they had to offer and gave my sister a recommendation for someone new to sushi. She even walked us over to their free sides bar, which had pickled cucumbers, ginger, broccoli, kimchi and others. We got our food relatively fast and our waitress checked up on us periodically to ensure our meal was great. The sushi was fantastic (a miss for my sister, but hey i got to eat hers so whatever). This is my go-to sushi place; it's honestly a tradition at this point. The waiters greet me every time (they even noticed when I got my haircut!), and they're so friendly. The sushi here is very affordable and very delicious. I typically order the maki monster roll, the dragon roll, the Alaskan roll, or the ahi tuna tower. The tuna and eel here taste great, and they always give a hefty serving of fish on each of the dishes! The specialty rolls have unique flavors that keep me coming back, all at a great price! If you dine in, they also offer complimentary sides, which are absolutely delicious. They come with more than the typical amount of side dishes, and I really like the kimchi here. Their ice cream is also delicious and a refreshing dessert from the nice meal! The interior decorations are kind of funky but also really nice. It's a great scene for a nice date, as they have private booths, each with unique decor. read more

The Maki Tower was unexpectedly one of the bigger ones I had ever seen; had a lot more rice than anticipated. The Maki-Monster rolls were big so an order of 6 was plenty - it was delicious. They have a complimentary small buffet of sides you can combine with your dish: broccoli, kimchi, sprouts, pickles, etc. They even provided complimentary ice cream! The decor was fun and creative! If I could give 6 stars out of 5, I would. This place is my favorite cheap and delicious Japanese restaurant. I am literally in love with this place and have been there 2 times within the past 3 days. The interior is decorated very cutesy with tons of string lights and lanterns. They have these awesome table cubicle type things where you can eat with privacy- the best invention ever! And at each table there is a call button you push wherever you need service, so no more awkward eye contact making when you need something. The servers there are also so friendly and took time to explain the entire menu to me, which I appreciated. I ordered the special (spicy ramen and 10 piece sushi) but I don't like spicy foods, so they substituted the spicy ramen with a seafood udon. The food was amazing! It was a "mini" bowl of udon, but it was still pretty filling, and they really put a lot of seafood in it. The 10 piece sushi was good too, and I was impressed at how they didn't cut corners and just offer california rolls- I got 6 pieces of salmon roll, 3 pieces of rainbow roll, and 1 unagi roll. So it was a good variety AND the pieces were pretty big too. All of that was $8.95, plus it comes with a salad bar where I ate a plate full of delicious broccoli. At the end of the meal, they brought out a little cup of smoothie for me to try. It was really the best meal experience I have ever had at that price. I came here due to the high ratings on Yelp, and Maki Boy didn't disappoint! If you like reasonably priced and yummy food, great service, and up-to-date edm music, then this is the place for you. Everything looked so good that my boyfriend and I over ordered. We had the shrimp tempura udon, caterpillar roll, maki monster roll, shrimp tempura roll, and two hand rolls (shrimp & avocado and spicy octopus). My favorite was the udon, which was piping hot, and the shrimp tempura came on the side so it doesn't get soggy in the soup. The rolls were so good and so worth it for the price. They were so big that I could barely fit an individual piece in my mouth. My least favorite were the hand rolls. They weren't anything special and are $3 each so I'd rather spend that money on another dish or roll. For an entree, 3 rolls, and 2 hand rolls, our total including tax was $40. Like I said, very reasonable prices! Service is on a whole 'notha level here. Our food came out super quick, and our waitress was absolutely the best. She explained the menu to us and pointed out what was popular since it was our first time there. She checked up on us from time to time and always asked how everything was. These are things that should normally be done at any restaurant, but she was just SO friendly and nice. She even packed up our leftovers for us and gave us complimentary strawberry raspberry smoothies that tasted like the Power Punch Plus smoothie from Smoothie King (which is my fav so I was very happy). The free appetizer bar is a nice perk. Luckily, I saw it was included in the reviews because the waitress had a horrible attitude and didn't mention it. She acted as though it was an inconvenience that I asked for a full menu. Then I asked about a substituting a roll on the lunch menu for a roll of the same price. Trendy, modern interior with good music, intimate booths with very high walls. I ordered takeout because I was by myself, but wish I could've eaten there - definitely coming back with friends and family! GREAT, attentive service (even for takeout) diverse menu with delicious, flavorful food and affordable prices! They serve beer as well. I ordered a shrimp hand roll (temaki I believe is its true name??) and shrimp roll, and they were fresh and mouth-watering good. Did this place just open up in 2015? Looking at the menu I was surprised to see the low prices of everything. I decided to get a Shrimp Fried Rice which was only $7 and a 6-piece Shrimp Tempura Roll for $7.50. Seeing the prices I doubted the portions to be big, but (maki)boy was I wrong! I'm 6'2 and 200lbs and I can put done some food, but I wasn't even able to finish everything. First off the the fried rice came with 6 giant pieces of shrimp and the shrimp tempura roll was a beast. It took two bites to put down one piece! I have been to their Irving location. This location is closer to my office. I always like their free Korean banchan, especially the broccoli! They have them here as well. Their California roll is cheap, huge and tasty. It's something simple but many restaurant screw it up for some reason. The service is quick and friendly. The sushi and maki roll menu isn't terribly diverse, but they have some interesting east/west fusion rolls, like their Texas and Kentucky rolls which have beef and fried chicken in them, respectively. There's several varieties of California roll on the menu, and one vegetarian option which was tasty. Service was very attentive and polite. They offered us a complementary taste of their strawberry and banana smoothie as well. They have a section of private booths which was very nice. Decided to check out the new location that just opened up, since I always go to the other one in Irving. Was slightly less hopeful for this location since nothing can beat the original, or so I thought. The new space is definitely alot bigger than the other, you could easily bring a party of 8+ here without worrying about space. Also, they decorated quite nicely, fells very homey and comfortable without looking too sloppy. The food is amazing(as always) and the prices are very good, I got a 12pc roll and a chicken bowl for under 15 bucks! Their menu has a good variety of selections so you have alot of things to choose from. Plus they have an area for compementlary side dishes! Obviously not the highest quality of sushi (most of the rolls are california-based) and not very authentic (they are Korean-owned), they offer satisfying meals with great value and variety. I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review for this place. Maki Boy is FANTASTIC! I stop by at least 2-3x a month. Delicious food, BYOB, very nicely decorated, and great service - what more can you ask for? I took a friend here for the first time and she went back 3x that same week. That is how good this place is. I always come during lunch and order the lunch special Bento Box because it's so so good - very filling and everything is fresh. There's even a complimentary veggie bar with broccoli, kimchi, and more. What's surprising is that Maki Boy is almost always empty whenever I'm there. I think people just don't know it's there and the area isn't where one would frequent for food, but you will not be disappointed. It is my goal to send more people to Maki Boy until it's a popular spot and packed house every time like it deserves. read more
