I really don't understand how this place is getting so many 5-star reviews. 1. The quality of the sushi rice was terrible. It tasted overcooked and didn't even taste like sushi rice. 2. Maki Boy is everything you want in a simple Asian meal. The portions are huge, the food is excellent, and the entire place smells awesome! The fried rice dishes might need a pinch of salt or msg, but the textures, flavors, and oils are wonderful. The spicy pork might be the best thing on the menu. Tofu costs $3 extra as of November 2023, but there are vegetarian dishes even without tofu. Service is pretty lacking but that's their business model. You have to order at the front, then find a table in a very small area, and a cook will bring out your food. Nobody will ever check how you're doing minus water refills. I have never had to wait that long at their other restaurant. I watched people come and go. The employees consisted of three young women and the man making sushi. The one female at the counter was a young Hispanic girl who appeared to be more engrossed with trying to look cute rather than the customers. After she served a man who came in at least 15 minutes after me, I asked about my order. She let me know it was ready (really?) and handed me my order. This was at the THIRTY MINUTE wait! The ding-dong I Take Selfies employee bagged my hot udon in the same sack as the sushi.... Um, hot food with raw fish... thanks I am giving three stars because the udon was really tasty. Oh Maki Boy how you've fallen. The past 2 times I've ordered, you have not met your previous delicious standard. The gyoza was flat, soggy, and lukewarm. You really can't go wrong with makiboy. This is our go to spot when we don't know what to cook for dinner or if we're just in a rush and want to snack. I love the self-service kimchi bar that they have because I go crazy with kimchi. I usually get the chef special so that I can get a variety of sushi however the sashimi salad is amazing! It's also humongous. Fried rice is really good and they'll even give it to you and a pineapple which is cute and tropical. I ordered spicy sauce udon as in picture. Udon was ok, i would rate it 3 out of 5. However, I went back to work and it was around 3 pm ish when things went bad. I felt nausea, and vomited 5 times. I had to stop working and kept running back and forth to the restroom. My colleagues kept asking if I were Ok and my face looked completely pale. I ended up vomiting until nothing left, but bile. I went home taking bismol and only drank electrolyte water. This morning I feel better and was sure I had food poisoning from Maki boy as that morning I didn't have anything but a banana. This place is a combination of the Japanese and Korean food. The sushi was good but the Korean spicy pork was just okay. This was my first visit and I was a bit confused whether it was a self service or full service restaurant. It turns out to be a semi-self service meaning that you would take the menu from the register, find your own seats then order your food and pay at the register. You would pick up your own drink and side dishes. However, staff would bring food at your table. It seems to me that the management applies a "stay in the middle" strategy to its operations and food items. In my view, it is not a good approach because it would be hard to stay in mix markets to remain competitive. They practice social distancing and staff is very friendly. In fact, for the price, it is such a good deal! We love Makiboy and frequently visited for the past few years. Best dishes I had were: eel donburi, spicy sashimi salad, and daily bento specials. Eel donburi is deliciously constructed with good amount of eel, a large scooping of imitation crab, and avocado on top of rice. Eel sauce is a must addition. You cannot go wrong with this one. If you are into sashimi, spicy sashimi salad is a good option - it comes with salmon and some other sashimi on top of mixed spring greens. You can add rice and spicy sauce to make sashimi bibimbap! I was on a budget and needed some sushi and I remembered that Maki Boy is popular in the Las Colinas area for cheap sushi, that's still yummy! We went and I had trouble finding it because it's in the middle of a strip mall, but luckily there is one of those large signs by the road that lists all of the places inside. The actual restaurant is really tiny (check out the pictures) there might be 6 or 7 tables and then the bar that you can sit at. It has pictures of the food everywhere, and I think it was because we had so much to look at that it took me so long to order! Amazing choices and from the reviews it seems like everything is delicious! I'm on a tight budget though so I got the 12 piece california roll and snacked on some of the korean side dishes they had available. There were no names on the side dishes, but they tasted interesting! My california roll was fresh and tasty, I appreciated that they had the low sodium soy sauce to choose from. My friend got the "Texas Roll" and the Chicken Rice Bowl. The Texas Roll is a warm roll and is more savory than anything else. It actually didn't have a ton of flavor and it was weird eating a warm sushi roll with beef in it. The sauce that came with it was flavorless and kind of strange. I liked the Chicken Rice Bowl, it was just tender chicken on top of steamed rice with a semi-sweet sauce. Nothing special, but it was good! I can't wait to go back and try something else! read more

It's like Korean side dishes. I normally don't like boiled broccoli but theirs was pretty good! They also had bean sprouts which was pretty fresh. These side dishes, drinks, and silverware are self-serve. I got the tuna hand roll and the eel donburi. Both were delicious! The hand roll was also decently priced which is always a plus.
