Kofta & heart sandwiches !!!!

The service is great but the food is awful!!! I haven't been in this restaurant for about 20 years! the last time I ate it tasted amazing. sandwiches made well everything was well seasoned and it had some soul in it!!! this past week however was a completely different story. Not sure if it's new ownership/management but it was a joke! it was so bad I was in complete shock after I started eating my sandwich. I couldn't finish half my sandwich and the ones I ordered to go I tossed in the trash because they were embarrassing.

I usually get the Kofta Kabab but this time it was a bit burnt. I also like hungry man which includes sausage & other meats & is pretty damn good. I really like the Kofta Kabab too. Their steak is too dry & bland though. My brother choked on it & I thought he was gonna die. Their fries are ok. The salad is good. The rice platters come with fries & salad but the sandwiches dont.

Lamb shank with rice

I'm a bit disappointed in the food based on the good reviews here. I had the lamb shank with rice. The lamb was very tender, but both the rice and lamb lacked flavor. The rice was very oily as well. There was also an employee who was talking about an inappropriate NSFW incident of his which ruined the mood. The other employees were nice though.

Service, Price and Food Quantity...This place deserves nothing less than 5 stars! Ever since I've moved to NY, my husband has been wanting to bring me here. He can't stop raving about this place, so I finally decided to try it last night. My husband had his usual Kofta Sandwich. Since I'm not a big sandwich eater, I decided to try the hot menu bar. I saw Lamb Shank and Beef Shank and could not resist, nor decide which to get lol. I asked the staff for his recommendation and he said, "I can do half and half for you if you like." Yay!! I opened the platter, and was blown away by the amount of food I just received for $13! This is the real deal! Delicious, fatty, moist...win! The platter come with delicious saffron rice and bread. Though on the heavier side, you won't be able to stop eating so be careful! It was way too much food for me so I had left overs for the next day and it tasted even better! All I can say is, if your in Astoria, don't miss out on this hidden gem! It's well worth your money!! I can't wait to go back!

This place has hearty homemade food. Tasty Moroccan style cuisine. Their fries are seasoned southern style and are very tasty. They are not skinny and oily but medium thickness and crunchy. Their sandwiches are big and full of the meat of your choice.... (no pork). Their dishes are generous but they only give you the option of rice, vegetables, or fries with their meat. Of course you could get both for extra but it's well worth it. If you come in the morning get their falafel sandwich, so fresh and well done.

Chicken Tajine with Vegetables
Imtiaz S.

Tajine, made with either meat, poultry or fish, is a cross between a slow cooked stew and a pot roast. It is an age old nomadic food named after the earthen pot in which the dish is cooked. There are broadly two styles, .Qidra style Tajine, which is made with "Saman" (clarified butter); and the Muqawlli style, which is made in olive oil. Dried fruits like dates, apricots and plums are added to give it its unique taste. Needless to say, there are spices, some very exotic ones, that additionally flavor the dish. In some places, they make the Tajine by smoking the earthen pot over a gentle olive wood fire. The beauty of the dish is that it is gourmet proof. When it comes to Tajine, any day of the week, I will take a Grand Ma over a fancy Michelin Chef. BUT sadly there are very few real Tajine places in the tri state area. There is hardly anyone who can do it like Tanjawi Sandwich Shop. This place consistently gets it right. Yes, it started off decades ago, as a hole in the wall, sandwich shop with a mile-long line waiting to order food. It is a messy and chaotic place. Recently it has expanded and has added a few tables. It is still messy and chaotic. But very few can compete against this humble place in terms of the sandwich or its Tajine. Generally, it has at least two Tajines (Chicken and Lamb Shanks) but occasionally has some very unusual Tajines also. Fans of grilled meats will be thrilled. They have a vast selection. The lamb sausage, Merguez, is outstanding (sandwich or platter). They have grilled Rocky Mountain Oysters on the menu too. Start off a meal at Tanjawi with the best Harira Soup in United States. (period). Harira is a legendary hearty soup. made of tomato, lentils, and chickpeas. Includes meat, but can be vegetarian. Then have a Tajine or Grilled Meat for your main dish. Save some room, for the mint tea and a flat bread pancake with honey (desert). Yes, this place is a messy hole in the wall. Very chaotic, but who cares, the food is unparalleled.

Place is small, only have 8-9 stools? But this small place seems to be the place where magic happens? There is no menu, well I didn't see one so I basically watched what other people ordered and asked the guys what was good to get... From there I ordered: Fresh grilled fish meal that came with a side of rice--I think you can substitute for fries? Got the chicken roast meal with rice Cheese steak Cheese burger A "hungry man meal" which had a few pieces of chicken, 2 sausage things, and a piece of steak with rice And got three drinks, totaling to be like $55? The food was yummy, the rice though I wasn't crazy about, wasn't up to par with my taste buds :/ Overall was happy with my dinner, would come back for sandwiches ! They really do need to expand and find a bigger spot with better seating!

Where do I begin??! First of all i must thank my Yelp buddy…read moreSuper K for recommending Sals!! Absolutely delicious subs!! Better than Katz and Carnegie!! Sandwiches are huge!! Its possible to share a sandwich with a friend. My favorite is the da bomb or pastrami. I love dipping mine in Italian dressing.... Service is great! Located in the Astoria part of NYC. You might have to wait but its worth it!! They don't take plastic!!! You need cash!! Oh yeah no place to sit ..so take it the park.. so after you eat you can take a stroll and not feel guilty!

The service is very professional. Takes a minute because they're extremely busy if you visit during the lunch hours. If you're a foodie and enjoy the view of fresh meats, cheeses, salads, breads, and sandwiches being made fresh..... then the ambiance was bliss. The fact it was in a common neighborhood made it even more enjoyable of a visit! Now to the sandwich..This sandwich itself DEFINITELY lives up to the hype! It really is the REAL DEAL!! Maybe they should change the name to "Da Bomb", because it's that's good! However, through no fault of anyone, this is the learning experience I take back for my next visit: 1) Extra lettuce, tomatoes, onions, hot peppers. Potato Salad IF extra hot peppers! 2) Bring reusable containers for your sandwich, especially if you're not going home/ hotel right away. Next visit, which will be my next visit to NYC, I intend to try the roast beef and turkey hero, extra lettuce, tomatoes, onions, hot peppers. Overall, I still rate 5/5. They do a fantastic job here. Service is awesome, food is fresh, and the amount of food they offer for the price is well worth it. Definitely worth visiting again and again!!

So when he mentioned how his burger was the most popular item, I definitely had to give it a shot - $8.75 for a no frills 8oz Angus burger with American cheese, tomato, onion, lettuce (I believe I saw pickle was available, but didn't get it). What I got was the 8oz of meat, but it was on a gorgeous brioche bun, with 2 slices of beefsteak tomato and really fresh lettuce. The red onions were meticulouslu cooked down in garlic butter on his griddle, and the burger patty (100% fresh, by the way) was cooked on grill using wood chip-fueled fire. Like I said, the guy really cares about his food. The meat was cooked to order, and all of the ingredients (bun, produce) were from LOCAL SHOPS freshly delivered every morning, so no unfresh ingredients. He dared me to eat this burger and come back to tell him it's not the best in the area, and I think he has an argument. So if you want to get a really good burger, all while supporting a 1-man show who supports Astoria's local businesses, stop by! This place is a great addition to the neighborhood, and I can't wait to try the rest of his sandwiches.

I did a delivery of 2 sandwiches recently, and both arrived fresh and packed well. I got the "Aged…read moreto perfection" which was prosciutto, and the "US open fan favorite" which was roasted chicken breast. Both came with generous amounts of meat, not too saucy either which sometimes makes sandwiches soggy. I got the regular sub size which I ate half of. It can easier feed 2 people! I could have done without sundried tomatoes in the prosciutto sandwich but overall it was very delicious. I would get it again, or try a hot sandwich variant next time.

I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to get a sandwich from Stacked since I haven't had one in a while. I I walked in and waited to be greeted while the staff chatted and gazed at me for about 5ish minutes or so. Finally, I'm acknowledged and asked "what can I get for you". I saw they had a Thanksgiving sandwich called the "Gobbler". I asked how long they would have it as even though it's the November special, sometimes places might make it last through the holidays. When asked I was told "it will be available until whenever November ends". This whole interaction made me feel so unwelcome. It didn't look like there was much going on there in the relm of orders, but it still took them a while to make my sandwich. Finally they bring it to the front counter. Pack it in paper and a paper bag and I'm off. I didn't have much time to eat so I scarfed it down in my car before heading down Queens Blvd. It was very good. Not my favorite, but def has potential. I also feel like, though this is a nice sized sandwich, they were a bit stingy this time around. I would say the star was the stuffing. It just tied everything together. As you all know, I love a good sandwich shop. I wish this was as good as it once was to me. Not sure if I'll give it one more shot just yet.
