Moroccan Bites is one of the most exciting North African eateries in the city and also one of the most pleasant locales for an afternoon cup of tea near Steinway. I came here primarily to try the msemen, similar to other North African flatbreads like Tunisian mlewi, but served sweet with butter and honey. It paired excellently with a cup of the mint tea, which the owner was kind enough to serve for us in the typical "pulled" fashion to aerate the tea. We ordered the vegetarian kosksi (couscous) to go, which was served with a spice-infused brown butter sauce and was absolutely excellent. A very small (3 tables) eatery with delicious Moroccan food. We came because of the "where do Moroccan people go when they're homesick and hungry vid". There were limited options and the couscous items are only available on certain days so we couldn't try. The items we did try were delicious! The chicken pastilla was like a chicken baklava lol. The top was sweet like a dessert so if you don't like salty sweet food this may not be for you. The lamb was fall off the bone. Not gaimy and very flavorful. The mint tea was great to balance everything out. I'd def come back to try the other items! The food was visually and physically satisfying. Lamb was very tender. It pulled apart when you picked it up. It was marinated and cooked with apricots and prunes. I never knew they go so well together. Couscous was light as clouds. Vegetables and beef were soft and flavorful. Chickens were roasted with skin. Brown glazed skin on top and juicy in the meat. I had a thigh piece. Wonderful cut. Meat was very fresh. The rice was also cooked with many different ingredients with chopped green/red peppers, moist yet light. It is a family owned restaurant. There are a couple of items in this Moroccan restaurant that are ok/tasty but the Rfissa that I got was unfortunately very bland, dry and with no flavor at all and I've had this dish many times at other places and it's normally full of flavor, top tier gravy, tasty and not dry. I pushed myself to eat some of it but I just couldn't. I wish I liked it, I really wanted to so hopefully they can improve their Rfissa dish and do better. read more

We unfortunately had the worst experience here. My family and I, a group of six, came in to eat and enjoy a World Cup game. Before arriving, we called the restaurant to ask if reservations were available. We were told that they do not take reservations. However, when we arrived, all six of us were seated in a single bench with very little room. Because we were so cramped, we asked if we could move to another table, but we were told that those tables had been reserved in advance. This was extremely confusing and frustrating, considering we had specifically called ahead and were told that reservations were not accepted. When we asked for an extra chair, a staff member told us he would get one. However, he came back with two chairs for other groups and never brought one to us. The restaurant was clearly over capacity, as there were no extra chairs available and barely any room to walk around. The experience was so unwelcoming that one of our guests got up and left to find another restaurant before we had even looked at the menu or ordered any food. During our visit, not once did anyone check on us or ask if we needed anything. None of my guests ate except for me. At the end of the meal, when it was time to pay, I was charged for seven plates, totaling over $200, even though there were only six people in our group and only one person (myself) had actually ordered food. When I asked for the seventh plate to be removed, the staff member's demeanor immediately changed. He became very aggressive and removed the extra plate. We then asked if he could also adjust the bill because he was charging my 4-year-old daughter for a full meal, even though I was the only person who had actually ordered and eaten anything. After removing the extra plate, we explained that one of our guests had left before the game even started--before seeing the menu or placing an order--and asked if that charge could also be removed. At that point, he became even more aggressive and refused to remove it. Overall, the customer service was horrendous, and I would not recommend this restaurant. I am extremely disappointed, especially since it had been recommended to us. The entire experience felt disorganized, unwelcoming, and poorly handled from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. read more
