A cute cozy cafe in Keningston Market that serves Japanese desserts and delicious drinks. It is close to other Japanese places that sell treats like taiyaki and mochi. It's also located near Chinatown and Baldwin Street. I would recommend the Japanese tiramisu since it has a good rendition of a tirasmisu with an East Asian twist! The drinks here are all top quality and can be had either in the cafe or on the go. The one downside to this cafe is the space. It is cozy but that means there is very limited seating. You are better off having your treat to go and hiding someplace else to sit then in the cafe if its a busy time of the day. read more

I went there for their famous croissant cube and grabbed a box of assorted croissants and one piece of burnt cheesecake. I think the croissant cube is not as great as I thought it would be, it looks cool but It's not crunchy as it should be. Because it's too big, eating croissant with no filling is mainly for the outer layer of crunchiness, but because of its size the inner softness dominate your experience. But remember croissants are filled with butter, so that kinda wasted your quota of eating soft croissants rather than the crunchy ones you're trading your quota with. If it's 1/8 of its size, it will be so so so much better, I want the edges in each bite of the croissant. The burnt cheesecake was good, I ate it when I was in the car, great softness and flavours. This is a glorified waffle place. I tried Classic Croffles which was around $6 for a small single piece. The Croffle was very hard and difficult to eat, no different than average waffle. This place is easily one of my favourite cafes in Toronto! Its a hidden gem inside Kensington Market and theres not a lot of seating available but that does not stop people from coming in non stop. Ive tried their chiffon cakes and swiss roll cakes before and they are just so light and fluffy! Their drinks are really good as well! The staff are really friendly and they offer to adjust the sweetness level of the drinks beforehand because they just know. I recently tried their 'Fujisan' cake and Tiramisu Latte (seasonal item) for the first time. Ive had their matcha latte and black sesame lattes before and it has never let me down so I decided to opt for something new on their menu. The tiramisu latte was just a little too heavy for me but I expected that because of the layer of mascarpone. Other than that you can definitely taste all the layers of a tiramisu in your mouth with every sip. The fujisan was amazing though, i felt like i was eating a pyramid of matcha ice cream with a subtle sesame base layer. The matcha was on point and i just wish i had more! I would definitely recommend you to find this little cafe and try it out because i know I'll definitely be going back sometime soon for another cake fix! read more

Little Pebbles is a super cute modern Japanese café located right in the heart of Kensington Market! It is especially famous for their freshly baked Japanese desserts and drinks. I honestly LOVED their matcha tiramisu! The tiramisu was served inside a cute small wooden box like the size of our palm. Scooping into the box, there were layers of fine matcha powder with cloud-like cream filling along red bean paste in the centre, and a final layer on lady finger at the bottom. The cream literally melts into your mouth blending into bitter sweet from Japanese matcha. The matcha powder that Little Pebbles used was leaning towards the natural bitter side, but made their matcha flavour standout perfectly! If you love eating a more bitter matcha, you will for sure love this one. The portion is definitely a bit small to share between 2 people, because it wasn't long until we devoured the whole thing one bite after another. Aside from the matcha tiramisu, I REALLY REALLY recommend trying out their hot Black Sesame Latte! The natural, creamy and rich Japanese black sesame flavour is definitely a drink that paired both the dessert really well! Super cute spot, it was kinda busy when I went so there was limited seats but we ended up standing at the little table near the entrance, which I didn't mind. I got a matcha latte with soy sweetened (you can ask for no sweetness) and my friends got chai lattes, the total came out to be $16 - We had to take the drinks to go since they didn't have anymore cups left (it was New Years Eve so it's understandable) We didn't mind this as well as the Christmas to go cups were super cute - but do wish to come back and get a chance to experience the full aesthetics of this place We all enjoyed our drinks, no complaints, it tasted very delicious. - Nothing too special but we literally got the basic/simple matcha and chai and they didn't mess it up so its a winner in my book! 4.5 stars... with each visit, this place just gets better. It helps they just moved west on the same street to a much bigger space. Little Pebbles is a bit of anomaly in Kensington. There are no hipsters, loud music, or grittiness that the area is known for. Stepping inside the small bakery resembles a bit of the serenity of small store in Japan. Clean white walls and thoughtful cute accents are it's only decorations is a minimalist zen atmosphere. The seating area is further down which is a nice relief compared to the cramped quarters of the previous spot. There are no true tables here... just small shelves that allow you to sit as you enjoy your amazing drinks and food. They do have a communal table finally. I love how they restrict the use of laptops to only weekdays mostly. Nothing is more frustrating than to find a spot when a bunch of laptops are taking up 2 seats. I find the staff here really great. When you first enter, you're warmly and politely greeted by the staff... there's usually 2 of them. On weekends, I do see 3 people now. You're given the opportunity to drool over the desserts in the case. They have a lot of seasonal items and YES, the matcha tiramisu is great but if they have the strawberry or cherry blossom items... grab them! They are very good on offering explanations so if you're not sure of something... just ask! I had to ask a bit about their drink menu and they took the time to explain. I highly recommend you try their drinks here. They use De Mello beans which is a local Toronto coffee roaster... it's definitely more on the bitter and adventurous side but its a good one. I really love the black sesame and kinako lattes here. Quite unique and if you love roasted nutty notes... these are so soooo good. They do offer it without a syrup if you're wanting more of the authentic nutty note. As for the baked goods... they're all good. I've had the mochi and it's wonderfully smooth and with the right QQ texture. Tender and soft but still bouncy. They also offer cakes like swiss rolls... unlike other places, the swiss roll is a perfect swirl and the cake is still tender. One thing I love about the Japanese influenced baking, it's always just the right minimal amount of sugar. It's really about letting the natural flavours show through before any sugar is added. Kinako Latte - Kinako is roasted soy bean ... now I know most people would be 'eh' but this note is so wonderful and clean. Though it veers towards the nutty... it's a light note and in a latte, it just makes the drink very creamy. It just had a richer taste than your normal matcha latte. Between the Black Sesame and the Kinako, it's so hard to choose a favourite. There's so much care when they make this drink. I saw the barista gently use a whisk of the kinako and a bit of the hot milk to make the paste be smooth and creamy before doing the rest of the pour. 5/5 Matcha Tiramisu - This is one of their showcase desserts... well I think so just cause their presentation is so unique. The tiramisu is layered in a wooden box with the vivid green of the matcha powder dusting the really silky custard. When you dip your spoon, you immediately scoop up the lightest cream filling you've probably seen. Lightly sweet from the white chocolate, this light cream is almost cloud like and then you notice the natural sweetness in the end. The matcha powder on top gives you that strong burst of flavour that keeps this out of the boring territory. It can be a bit bitter... but when you take a big scoop of the creamy interior, it's not so bitter. On the bottom somewhere is a cookie that has been soaking up the flavours. All together, it's easy to eat one just by yourself. I may have argued for the last few bites. 5/5 Flat White - Still think these are good but I'm not sure Im a fan of these beans. They're a bit more bitter than what I like but I've been finding that as a De Mello feature instead of a Little Pebble. 4/5 My previous review had the Black Sesame latte at a 5/5 and I highly recommend it if you love nutty flavours. I think the can even do it iced but honestly... it's so good as a latte. Hopefully you'll come in a small group so you can try all the various little desserts. Alright! I love my coffee, and Little Pebbles is a must-visit if you're in the Kensington market area. Despite living in Toronto for 18 years, I have never been to Kensington. Fortunately, that has been remedied at the ripe age of 22, and the black sesame latte from Little Pebbles was the best way to round out a visit to this Toronto gem. As I entered, I immediately felt very comfortable. Interestingly, there were no hipsters, loud music or pretentious cafe-goers- the café was quiet and unassuming. Instead, you'll find a semi-basement that is a haven of hand made desserts and pastries. The ladies that own the restaurant were very sweet, and the service fast and amiable. I had their black sesame latte, and it was ON POINT. Delicious, creamy and not too sweet. Unfortunately, they didn't have anymore tiramisu, so my partner and I will have to make another visit if we're ever in the area. These cookies just tastes ordinary. Not too surprising. I can't taste yuzu/black sesame. Matcha is fine. Hojicha is better but a little bit sweet. Not much tea flavor. After my late lunch at Seok Ar San, I was having a bad craving for dessert...cuz after spicy, its sweets ofc xD So I looked up Yelp and came across Little Pebbles at Kensington Market. From my first step through the door, I was in love w/ their minimalistic design. It was a small place no doubt (w/ only 3 bar tables on the side), but the open kitchen made it seem a lot more spacious. And the Birchwood theme w/ small plants added a soft touch to the place. In terms of food, I opted for the matcha chiffon cake; it had a sesame flavored sponge cake base w/ matcha cream on top. It was very light & springy, yet dense enough to hold its shape. It also retained its moisture and had just enough sweetness for Asian taste buds. I only wish that the flavor of the matcha cream stood out a bit more; it was too weak for me. The sesame base could use a touch more sesame as well. Overall though, it was a perfect treat for an afternoon tea. I'll be back to try their other offerings. read more

Randomly stumbled upon this place while in the Kensington Market area! My friends and I were just walking around the area and wanted a place to sit down and chat for a bit and were drawn in by the entrance of this place! It looks like a modern cafe straight out of Japan! The desserts and drinks were all delicious. We were here a couple of months ago in March when they still had their Fall/Winter specials and they definitely warmed us up. The matcha cake was super soft and fluffy and the matcha flavor was very nice as well, not too weak or overpowering. The interior of the place was also super nicely decorated and there was a nice, peaceful ambience. I really want to also commend the woman working at the shop. However this chiffon cake I had was dry and not memorable. It's a good place to go have a cute coffee date with friends. There is a tiny menu above the counter, as well as a glass shelf filled with cakes and canelés. We ordered two items to share because we were full after lunch, Matcha Chiffon Cake and a Coffee Canelé. I was tempted to order the tiramisu latte, but I was too full and was hoping I can pass by again to try it (never did ._.) The Matcha Chiffon Cake is soft and spongy; however, I couldn't taste much of the matcha flavor from the cream or the sponge cake. Though it is reasonably priced, I don't think it was too special for me to order it again in the future. Coffee Canelé is small and cute. Unfortunately, it doesn't taste good as it tastes. The shell is thick and super hard as if it is overbaked. The coffee flavor is strong, but because it has a harder than expected shell, we would have to leave it after a small bite. It seems like it was left overnight, but I wasn't sure. Compared to the cake, it is relatively expensive for what it is as well. *** Overall Impression *** Little Pebbles is a Japanese cafe that is recommended by many friends who visited Toronto. However, I wasn't sure if I ordered the wrong items, or it is just overhyped. Frankly, this is one of the best Japanese desert store in the entire Ontario. My girlfriend and I even went to J-town, and oh my, we were disappointed by the mass-produced products there. We ordered the Sakura Tiramisu, Matcha Tiramisu, and Blackberry Mochi. And they were excellent. The Tiramisu is very light. It is not very sweet compared to a lot of American sweet. And it has the right amount of richness so you won't get fed up after the first bite. The Matcha has the right amount of matcha in it so you can enjoy the treat The mochi was so good. It's very fresh and soft. Its filling is very delicious. After we finished our mochi, I had to come back and ordered the last two that they had left. We actually went to the neighbouring store (Kiss the Tiramisu) first but saw that this place looked interested and decided to get something from here to try out. We got the Sakura Tiramisu and it was definitely something really unique. Ive never tried anything like this before. The cake itself was tiny and more on the pricier side. It smelt really nice.. literally like Japanese blossoms. You can eat the leaves and the gold flakes that's in the pink clear jelly part. You can probably eat the stem too but we avoided that. My friends reaction was hilarious when she tried the cake - "it tastes like my face mask!" LOL. She's right! Weird at first but it still tasted good! The Tiramisu and cake part was at the right consistency and it tasted good together. The leaf tasted like lychee which was interesting as well.
