Driving on 400 at lunchtime presents many opportunities for lunch. We did not want fast food today so checked out what else is available. It has been a while since we had Chinese and Yelpers liked Little Peking so here we are. Inside has a front room and a back room. The front is open for lunch and has modern Chinese restaurant decor. The back room has the more substantial and classic Chinese restaurant decor. The lunch menu is what you expect, and for one price get hot tea, the crunchy bits, soup, and appetizer, rice, and an entree. I went with the Mongolian beef, crab Rangoon, and hot and sour soup. The soup was good, could have been a bit spicier and greasier. The protein was tofu and you don't get a lot of grease from that. It was good. The crab Rangoons were also good and dipped in the sauce even better. The fried rice was just ok not bad but bland. Peas, carrots and egg and is probably the build lunch fried rice. You might be better off with the white rice. The Mongolian beef was excellent, slightly crispy yet very tender and a good amount of sauce. A couple more spoonfuls of that sauce running onto the rice would bump this review up to a five star. Megan thought her egg drop soup could use some more flavor. Her spring roll was not what she expected, was more like an egg roll but with thiner wrap. She loved her General's chicken, said it was among the best she's had. I did not get a taste! On checking out (you pay at the counter) I complimented the owner on the clean and bright interior and great food. She said she has a great team. That is what you want to hear from a leader! I asked how long she's been here, she said 28 years. That is some great staying power! Our meal was just shy of $25 plus tip, a good value! So glad we tried this place. The staff were super attentive and friendly. We had the fried dumplings, chicken fried rice, and sesame chicken. The sauce for the dumplings was really good. Not too sweet like it can sometimes be. You can tell they are making the dumplings from scratch! Actually you can tell everything was made in house. The sesame chicken was perfectly breaded and had a good sweet and savory sauce. Not like most places where it's almost too sweet. The chicken fried rice was fresh and perfectly prepared. We decided to try a new place for Chinese Food on a Monday night for a weeknight dinner and selected Little Peking. I went to the restaurant and ordered at the counter from their menu and took the food home. I did not see an online order system when I searched. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There were two people at the front counter taking orders and giving people orders when they came in. You can call in an order, and it appeared many people did that with the volume of orders being picked up. From the outside of this business, I did not have high expectations for the dining area, but once you walk in the dining room is decorated, clean, and larger than it appears from the outside. We will try to dine in on our next visit. All food is prepared when you order. There are no hot tables with prepared food items. The menu is large and complete, so choosing what I was going to order took me some time to review all the options. I ordered the black pepper beef and I ordered a garlic chicken for my wife and at home we split our meals to sample both. It took roughly 25 minutes for our meals to be prepared but it was well worth the time waiting. Our meals were both very fresh and steaming hot when I arrived home with them. Both of our meals were very good, but we both seemed to prefer the Garlic Chicken over the Black Pepper Beef. But, that is a personal preference on our part. I would definitely order both meals again. The cooking, the seasoning, and the taste were all spot on. Portion sizes are smaller than you will get at some of the fast food, Chinese places around town, but you get plenty of food and will not be hungry. The entree items are more expensive than some other local options, but all fresh ingredients and your meal being prepared to your instructions when you order make the value of the extra cost well worth what you will spend. read more

Little Peking had always been my favorite in the area. Today I tried the General Tao dish and was greatly disappointed. It was so sweet it was barely edible. Actually, this is the 2nd time I've had something that seemingly used the same type of sauce on it and both were too, too sweet. Last time it was a beef dish. You don't expect a beef or chicken dish to have so much sugar in it, that it could be served as a dessert. I think I need to find another place to eat in the future. This was my first time ordering from this establishment. The food was just ok. I called 15 min before close (my fault) they asked If I could be there in 10 min. Yeah no problem. Egg rolls appear to be left over. Cold and hard. The sizzling rice soup was a big bowl of rice with some liquid poured over it (sizzling rice means I drop the rice in the soup)I had two shrimp and two pieces of chicken. Not impressed! I can go to Osaka and get a full meal for a lot less and a whole lot more shrimp for less. Oh well.. thought I would support local. read more

Little Peking is a staple for the town of Dawsonville - one could argue it's the epitome of Chinese in the entire surrounding area. I've been going to Little Peking for over a decade, and every single time I have gone (likely over 100) the service is consistently top notch - a rarity this day and age. The layout is cozy and the ambient music is delightful. The same faces I saw when I was a child still work there today; they serve with smiles, and cater to your every need. Your glass will never be below half full here - metaphorically and literally. The food is amazing and just like their service: consistent. For the most part, if you order the mongolian beef today and then a year from now it will taste the exact same. I've never had a meal here that wasn't satisfying and tasty. The tea was hot but kinda funny tasting for my liking. So for the meal I ordered Eggrolls, Pepper steak and fried rice. The eggrolls were awesome. That and the service gave it the 3 stars. The pepper steak was pretty bad. Large portion. Meat was fairly tough and had a weird texture. Sauce was ok but not great. It had bamboo shoots and water chestnuts in it which were not in the description. Rice was good. So food was overall disappointing. But service was excellent. Place was clean. I really enjoyed this restaurant. The prices were around $7 per plate. The portions were ample and the flavors were great! My fiancé and I happened upon this restaurant by accident and it turned out to be a wonderful surprise. We were seated promptly and given some fried noodle chips to munch on. They had coke product fountain drinks available as well as hot tea. We opted for the soft drinks. My fiancé ordered the chicken fried rice and asked for it to be made spicy, which they did without issue. I ordered the Szechuan chicken which is basically fried white meat chicken pieces in a spicy sweet brown sauce, served with fried rice. Both of our meals came with soup, I had the wonton (two dumplings in a flavorful broth) and she had the egg-drop soup (complete with tofu). The fried pot stickers were not pan fried but were over cooked dark brown with hard edges. the wrap was not always done. The princess chicken (Kung Pao) was supposed to be spicey and was so bland almost no taste. The chicken was full of fat and had so much celery in it that it should have been called a celery dish. Sizzling rice soup wowed our party as it had 4 shrimp, was loaded with chicken, water chestnuts, mushrooms, green peas, and green onions. Mongolian beef was loaded with tender beef and served atop a bed of rice noodles. Egg rolls were from scratch and had chicken and were far superior to all the other frozen egg rolls made in Houston. What a delightful surprise! Word of mouth brought us to this restaurant tucked beside the old Kroger location in Dawsonville. This place is spotlessly clean and decorated beautifully with stained glass-like ceiling lighting. We also had an order of General Tso's chicken, The chicken or lack there of was like eating a dough ball, very few vegetables in this order. Also the white race tasted like pure starch!
