We were going to another local Thai Restaurant when we realized it was closed on Tuesday. We had tried Rice a long time ago and couldn't remember if we liked it. The biggest problem in my opinion is that they put way too much sauce on everything so if you're ordering a dish that comes with some type of sauce, you may want to tell them to use a little bit. Baked green mussels, albacore ponzu dish, spicy scallops all drowning in sauce. Spicy tuna was not spicy at all, zero flavor heavy rice. My husband has been going to Rice for 20 years, I've been going since 2019. Service tonight was good as always, however, the value for our money has depreciated greatly. Tonight was very disappointing (see attached receipt). I ordered the chirashi don, side tuna sashimi, my 4 year old had two appetizers (shrimp tempura and fried Goyza) and a Japanese sprite. We also ordered 1 cup miso and 1 ginger salad. Our total was $79.18. The miso + ginger salad for one was $10? I understand that prices are up, but $10 for something that typical comes with your order, is a lot. It was my first time ordering chirashi don at Rice and the sashimi pieces were very thin, there was more rice than fish. I understand that times are hard, but when your favorite sushi place is not up to your expectations, it's truly disheartening. read more

Rice is hands down the best sushi restaurant around the Cumming Georgia area. These guys have a very unassuming store front in the Publix shopping center, but when you step inside you enter the hidden gem of all things sushi. Of course their sushi is wonderful, but I love that they serve brown steamed rice on request, and they have a full line of Asian beers, wines, and whiskeys. The staff is always first class, taking care of patrons, and they occasionally will add in a nice dose of humor. I love these folks and would eat here every day if I lived closer. We absolutely love Rice! My partner loves sushi, but I'm allergic, so a lot of times, most sushi places don't offer more than that. Rice has us covered! They have classic dishes, such as Sweet and Sour Chicken and Crab Rangoons, but they also have Hot Pot, a wide variety of sushi and a wide variety of chicken, vegetarian, and vegan opens! We were sat at the bar and we were able to watch them make all of his sushi in front of us, which was really cool. You can tell they really put a lot of effort into their presentation. We got some crab Rangoons for an appetizer, I got the Chicken Hot Pot and he got a Ginger Salad and for his sushi, he got Salmon skin, Salmon, Yellowtail, Octopus and Eel. Solid Chinese takeout option. Big fan of the Hot & Spicy Beef! Less so of the "General's Chicken" (no "Tso"?). The former was perfectly hot and the beef tasted good. The latter was a tad soggy and the chicken was near flavorless. My wife really enjoyed the hot & sour soup, I thought it was too "brothy". Spring rolls were excellent, Crab Rangoon had no crisp/crunch, but rather was a little soggy and chewy. White rice was excellent. Will definitely return to sample more of the menu. Cheers! So good! Tonight my daughter and I went to celebrate her receiving all A's and making the KSU's Presidents List. We love to try at least one new sushi roll each visit. The Orange Christmas Roll made with salmon was savory with a tongue tingling mix of spicy and smoky. The Double Salmon roll was tasty but every roll I've ever tried at Rice has been freshly prepared and delicious. The Kani salad (cucumbers & crab) is one of my favorites and my daughter loves the crab rangoon. The hot Jasmine tea was perfect for the cold, rainy weather outside. The wait staff is always attentive. This is definitely the 'go to' for Sushi when in or near the Dawsonville, Ga area. My only critique, yet not a big deal as long as you are mindful of, is the limited seating and small tables. Due to their continued popularity and reputation, it can be quite cozy at busy times during the day and week. read more

This review is for the sushi bar. We are "Old Rice " customers & we recently returned to Rice to sample raw fish & rolls at the establishment's sushi bar. Sadly, & once again, it wasn't the best food quality experience. That being said, the service is very pleasant & polite. Way back in the day, Rice had different ownership & had created a quasi tavern like atmosphere at the sushi bar with mugs & other bar paraphernalia, & personal chopstick collections hanging on the wall. That Rice was a hoppin' joint. The old Rice provided patrons with quality raw proteins. At the old Rice, The itamae or chef preparing & presenting sashimi, sushi & rolls, excelled at providing great selections of different types of fish, mollusks & crustaceans, perfectly sliced & artfully arranged, often on lovely china. Unfortunately, Our recent experience was a disappointment with miserly & mushy cuts of sashimi & totally one dimensional tasting rolls. That being said, the raw fish was completely edible & we ate everything without complaint. For one selection, I requested nori on the outside of their simple Rainbow roll - which is a simple California roll with slices of sashimi draped over the roll but they couldn't accommodate my request. Every California or FUTOMAKI roll I have eaten has always had the nori on the outside of the rice. Not sure why the chef couldn't make it that way but no biggie. We also observed that much of the fish in the case was already pre-sliced. The 1st item we ordered to share was the app portion of Miso Black Cod. It was expensive & slightly undercooked & it was served after our raw fish course. Not sure why. To add insult to injury, the after meal fortune cookies were stale. I'm so sad to say that, as a family that has frequented Rice since it opened, it is no longer our go-to for Asian food. In the last 4 years, we've given them the benefit of the doubt because we've always been huge fans. Although the service has remained great (Alex is the best!), we've seen the prices go up significantly (just as it has everywhere) and the quality and portions go DOWN even more. That's where they lost us. Our last two in-house visits (we gave them another chance), the protein that was supposed to be in our dishes was non-existent--each entree contained basically just vegetables and sauce. Then our last to-go order was the final disappointment. The sushi roll pieces were half the normal size, the wonton soup was different (not a great flavor), and both the crunchy noodles and fortune cookies were completely stale. First timer here and definitely enjoyed the food. Located in a plaza so there's free parking, and I ordered take out. The portion sizes are small and for the 2 rolls it cost $35. Sushi is never filling but this was indeed delicious. If I was back in the area I'd revisit and try something else on the menu. read more

The service here is wonderful, although the interior is a bit small for such a busy place. The food here is okay - very middle of the road. The shrimp teriyaki meal and the chicken teriyaki are things I would skip. The meat for both was dry/tough, and the veggies had more flavor than the rice/meats. The Benedict sushi appetizers are good! Definitely unique with quail eggs and spicy tuna but delicious. Their fish is fresh if you get the sushi. It seems like all of Forsyth County raves about Rice, so I finally gave them a try a few weeks ago on a Friday night. I called in an order to go. The lady who answered was very pleasant. My order was ready when I arrived. We ordered a fried calamari app, seaweed salad and three different rolls. The seaweed salad was good but the calamari was not. The rolls we ordered were between $12-$15, and for that price I was expecting bigger portions, but unfortunately, these were not. In fact, they were on the smaller side. They were however, fresh and tasty. The restaurant was very busy, so maybe I'm missing something or ordered the wrong items. Although I live in Cumming, Rice is about 25-30 minutes away from me. We weren't super impressed, but willing to give them another try in the future. read more

I haven't been in awhile, but I feel it's important to support our local businesses and write reviews for places we love going. I have tried many different dishes here and several different sushi rolls. My favorite items are the eburi escolar, the Mongolian beef, the Casanova roll and the lady Godiva roll. If I find some of my previous photos from past visits I will certainly add them as their presentation is gorgeous here. Went for lunch with a friend because she's come here before and I wanted to try it out. The ambiance was welcoming and quaint. The waiters were attentive and nice. Got the lunch special- I believe the sushi deluxe. Got to pick which soup and I got the wonton. It comes with a salad too. The soup was really good! The salad was alright.. just not my cup of tea. I've been coming to rice for quite some time now and each and every time has been a wonderful experience! This time, I brought my mother here for her birthday dinner. The interior is pretty standard for a Japanese restaurant. Modern wood furniture with Japanese decorations displayed on the walls. They also keep this place pretty clean. Service is usually pretty quick and the servers are all very friendly. We had ordered the Black Forest roll, two spicy scallop hand rolls, and rolling in lobster roll. All the rolls tasted amazing! The Black Forest roll is my personal favorite since it has a very nice balance of fish, avocado, and cream cheese while the outside is fried to perfection! The scallop hand rolls are also a must have! There was so much scallop in every bite. There was never a point where I felt like there was too much rice or too little scallop. The rolling in lobster roll was super good as well. I love how they plate this roll using the lobster's tail as a boat to hold the lobster meat. However I did notice that they put little fried pieces of batter in the lobster boat to make it look like there was more lobster... so sometimes I would try to find a piece of lobster but only pick up a piece of fried batter. Also, the lobster was slightly over cooked. Overall still a good experience with pleasant presentation. Rice is my go-to sushi joint when I'm up in Cumming! I highly recommend you stop by for good food and a good time! :) read more

It is almost impossible for this place to get less than 5 stars based on the experience my family and I had! My cousin and her husband just moved to Forsyth County a couple of months ago and they joined some groups about the area and the best restaurants. They kept hearing about this place in all the groups. They actually live a little far from this place and it is not close to anything you would go to, but we made the trek out here! And at first glance, from outside, you wouldn't even know its here. When we were driving there, we had to swing around the parking lot because we didn't see it at first. The RICE sign doesn't light up from outside. But once we entered the restaurant we actually felt transported to Buckhead, Atlanta. You would never expect this place to be so nice. Our server was awesome. He said he's been working there for several years. We tried a couple of different rolls, dumplings, and quail eggs with spicy tuna. All of the sushi tasted amazing and our server gave us some recommendations and we should have followed them, but despite that, we still enjoyed all our dishes. One note to take is if you want to try the explosion roll, it is actually like a deconstructed sushi and best to eat with a spoon. And the quail eggs are pretty good, but they are $4 each (not $4 for 3). The sushi here is a little pricier than other places, but it still tastes great and the experience here is great. My family and I am adding this to our favorite-sushi-places-of-Forsyth-county mental list! read more

The Lady Godiva roll......mmmmm that garlic butter! You had me at hello! Service at Rice was great. Being busy didn't stop them from checking on our table and giving good service. Sushi is on the higher price range. Rest of the food is moderately priced. What did we order: chicken satay spring rolls shrimp tempura clay pot chicken lo mein lady godiva roll perfect storm roll Except for the chicken satay and the peanut sauce, everything else was good. Shrimp tempura stayed nice and hot and good crisp. Clay pot chicken and Lo mein, seem like they are cooked in the same sauce. Located: In the Publix shopping center Both sushi rolls were yummy. 4 stars because the prices for the sushi are WAY to steep for a strip mall. $20 is the price of the lady Godiva (after tax/tip), and the chicken satay/peanut sauce could use some attention. The food was amazing! I would do order I just about anything again! We had the nigiri bluefin tuna and it was AMAZING! So good we had a separate order at the end of the meal for the 'desert'.
