I was a customer here for 17 years.. I would ride my bike here or stop in for a chat and coffee-. The deli has been closed for some time.. I know as I worked there for the last 3 years the customers were great and the views perfect.. But if you call do not expect an answer on the phone? I was a team member always Cleanning and always on time.. I can't say their were not stressful days , and communicating uninstalling other employed was a challenge.. I'm going to miss the scenery.. This little market has a huge selection of local beers, wines and spirits. It's worth a stop for that alone. You can also find snacks, pre-made sandwiches and burritos, as well as hot clam chowder, which was pretty tasty. You can also find post cards here. Grab them while you can, even at $1 a pop, because I wasn't able to find them anywhere else except the light station gift shop. You can buy stamps for them at the post office next door and mail them right off. read more

A stunningly awesome find on my drive up the CA-1 coast! Their prepared food selection was laid out so you could buy just the amount you wanted AND it tasted great. Bonus: the awesome little slice of apple pie I got from the farthest rear cooler door. Good range of beer! I was surprised the wine selection is as large as it is for such a small store. As a bonus, the staff was incredibly friendly, and not in a fake way. I'm glad that just about any weirdly twisty road up the coast connects near Little River so I can plan ahead to stop again next time. read more

The guy working here today is rude and not helpful in any way. When we used the air pump to add air to our tires, the air valve broke off the tire. We could not get reception on our phone (damn AT&T)! so we asked to use their phone to call AAA. He would not let us use the phone. Not only were we stranded, we had no way to call for help. He did not care. He did not help in any way. So we drove away on a flat tire with no other choice since he was not helpful. What we found out later is now we need a new tire (which had to be ordered and takes two days) when all we really needed was a new valve that would have only taken a few minutes. Ugh ... So now we had to get AAA to tow us to a hotel room for two extra days ... while we now wait for a new tire. Seriously the cost is now outrageous for something that could have been so simple with just a phone call for help. Not a nice experience here. Very frustrating! read more

We chose this deli based on all the other Yelp reviews and boy, our experience could not have been any different. I'm wondering if the place is now under new management. As you can see from the photo I posted, the sandwiches are pathetic. All I could taste was bread! There was hardly any meat on it, one little slice of a tomato, and one small piece of lettuce. And all of this for about $9? It was a rip-off! I couldn't even eat the sandwich, it was that bad. We also found the workers very unfriendly and unhelpful. It's true, this place has a new owner. The deli is still good, but no longer great. The kale salad with lentils is still delicious, though. Customer service needs some help. The strange middle aged/older woman at the register needs to zip it and just do her job without the oddball/rude commentary. The deli staff needs customer service training. I ordered 2 bagels with cream cheese and it took 20 minutes. The guy after me who ordered 2 sandwiches and several sides received his order and was out the door before I finally received my 2 bagels. Hello? Slice, toast, spread. 90 seconds tops. Basic customer service rules broken: 1. orders filled out of order 2. no apology for either the length of time to ready my order nor the fact that the guy who ordered after me received his stuff before me. 3. people preparing food without food service gloves/hairnets 4. small child in the kitchen (who hopefully wasn't touching any food since she obviously didn't have clean hands) Still good for basics, but a 3 star no longer a 5 star. read more

I was also hungry so I grabbed a burger from the deli and it definitely got me feeling satisfied. I couldn't have asked for a better burger for the price I paid. This is a special place, let me tell you! Great selection of specialty food items. Coconut water with pulp? Decaf iced coffee beverage? Dried edamame? Fresh, local (I presume) bread? Cheese and crackers? All here. Somehow, all of the products I love made it into one store - and it's here! Prices are decent for a little shop along the coast. Great little deli to boot. I had a killer samosa (surprisingly, one of the best I've ever had! And from a random little deli!) and some quinoa salad that was also good. If you're in the area, highly recommend this place. Normally when we pass by the Little River Market it is way, way past closing time. But miraculously we were ahead of schedule last Sunday, and the market was open. I'd provided some basic hippie sandwiches for our journey (sunflower butter and homemade plum jam, anyone?) but thought "oh, maybe I can find something to jazz all this up". So, scratch those frugal plans. It was late in the Market and Deli's day (they close at 6 on Sunday, and it was around 5:30 or later as we stopped to gas up the faithful Toyota) but...looking at the myriad choices, including exotic things (seaweed salad?) and vegetarian options...and at the cozy tables facing a window that has a fantastic view of the sea--I figured vegie burgers all around. And yes, everything on them. Son and I sat at one of the rose painted tables and devoured burgers (with very fresh tomatoes, red onions, nice lettuce, yum) while partner decided to go deliver some papers in Albion and return for us. So we made the nice people late in closing by probably 9 or 10 minutes (no one said anything or even looked impatient). The place seems very well stocked for picnic needs and grabbing neat things to illicitly nibble in your hotel room. The sweet potato fries looked like a very tempting option. For those who eat higher in the food chain than we do there were seafood dishes and chicken/meat options. Tamales, fried clams (I think). Kale salad. Lots of ice cream in the market section (my kid spotted that immediately). Oh, and don't worry, we ate our sunflower butter sandwiches the next day. They were yummy too. read more

This place gets two stars simply because the deli girl was nice and helpful and the breakfast burrito was very tasty. Be warned, you order from the deli and once you get your food you take it to the front to pay before eating. There are small, small, signs everywhere but the whole process is ridiculous. Our friends paid afterwards and while we were waiting in line the cashier lady was telling everyone how stupid our friends were. Then, after SHE offered a trash can for their trash, told everyone how crazy they were for bringing their trash to her... Instead of having people take "per pound" food to have it weighed in the front, just move a scale to the deli and have them write the actual cost of the food on the package. Better yet put a register back there. I'd rate more but the woman cashier was a real killer for us. Very rude. Great stop for a meal, snack, a drink, or to just enjoy the afternoon! I had a piggy burger, and it was just amazing! The homemade coleslaw they had in the burger combined with the pulled pork and pickles made my tongue explode by the impact of flavors. And the size of the thing, it was well worth the cost, definitely very filling! I recommend asking for some extra BBQ sauce for the pulled pork. The lemon shortcake they had was also tasty! It was moist with just the right amount of lemon flavor. It was not too light, nor too overpowering (compared to most other lemon shortcakes I've tried which makes it feel like I bit into a lemon not a cake). As for the drinks, they have a large variety ranging from alcholic to non-alcoholic. Especially their alcoholic selection. It is indeed very impressive for a market of this size. Within the market, they have a small dining area with windows facing towards the ocean. In the evening, the view is simply breathtaking. The area is also fairly quiet, making it a perfect place for a bit of afternoon reading. As for the workers, I'm assuming that the other reviews are rather old. The workers were friendly and greeted me with smiles! I did encounter the man behind the counter that Lux claims to be "new to english", and I had no problems understanding him; he simply had an accent. Moreover, I found some of the staff to be extremely helpful when I asked them for suggestions on beer. Overall, I would definitely stop by here again when I'm up in the area! read more

I wasn't expecting much from this little gas station joint, but after going inside to grab a quick snack for the ride home from Mendicino, I was pleasantly surprised by the selection of food and drinks. It doesn't look like much from the outside...I think the gas pump and port-a-potty threw me off, but it is actually a small market that makes a variety of fresh sandwiches, salads, and other snacks. I had a curry tofu salad, deviled eggs, and an amazing slice of carrot cake. They also have seating in the back and an incredible view of the ocean. It's definitely worth stopping in! read more

Stopped here looking for a quick dinner on my way through the Fort Bragg area. Deli has a variety of hot and cold foods including a nice selection of vegetarian items (tamales, burritos, cutlets, salads and appetizers) and a small dining area w/a great ocean view. I tried the couscous salad, veggie cutlet, samosa, and coconut cake, all of which were very good. The market also has lots of homemade baked goodies and artisan breads. Spent a couple of days in Fort Bragg and was leaving town. Didn't really find anything in town that was clicking, either too long a wait, or closed. We decided to head down Highway 1 and see what we found. On a whim we pulled in here. Nice little store, friendly staff. My 10 year old son was really happy he could get an orange soda and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Usually there are only a handful of people he'll accept a PBJ from, mom, grandmas, maybe me. He loved this one and he shared the crusts with our dog. Everyone's a winner..... I had a meatloaf sandwich that was really good. Washed it down with some good root beer. Wife had a turkey sandwich, and she enjoyed it. Food isn't what makes this place so good, it's the view. Sitting at the long counter by the window gives you a million dollar view of the ocean. It was a beautiful day and we were wrapping up a couple of days off. A really nice way to round out the trip. I'd absolutely stop here again, mainly for the view, but also for a good sandwich. I'd really like to stop in here when there was a good storm going on. I bet it'd be a great place to sit and watch the waves. read more

My wife & I come here often for lunch when we are hiking in the neighborhood. We really enjoy their burgers, salads, and most of their desserts. We usually eat there to enjoy the view out the back windows. Or you can take out and eat in the adjacent state park. They serve Thanksgiving coffee which I like. The store has a good beer & wine selection but you can't consume on premises. We found the staff to be really friendly & helpful. Sounds like a foolproof plan, and it would be as long as this wasn't the deli you decided upon. The store itself is pretty well stocked and and at least equal in terms of variety that one might find at say a super gas station mart. Large alcohol selection. The sandwich I had from the deli nearly competed with something any 5 year old might construct if they were low on ingredients. Literally one thin slice of meat. You would think the owners would at least want to hide this glorified sliced bread in a thick non transparent bag but instead made the surprising choice to place the finished product? I love this place. I just ordered the mushroom vegetable soup. Delicious! I was looking for something mild and soft that I could handle after the brutal cleaning I got at the dentist yesterday. I pine for the sweet potato fries. They were amazing the last time I came to Mendocino. We stayed at the little river inn right across the street. But, my mouth being a little sore, I had to deny my craving and settle for the mushroom veggie soup. I asked the guy behind the counter if it was spicy and he said "no. Not at all". Okay honestly yeah it was a little spicy. I didn't mind because it was so freakin good anyway. But, I know some people who have a ridiculously low tolerance for spice. If you're one of them, stick with the sweet potato fries. Everyone else, try the soup. Or it appears, anything else you find here because I haven't seen anything that didn't look appetizing to me. This place really has everything you can imagine. And its cheap as hell. My soup and 2 bananas were only $5. I'll be back tomorrow for the fries I've been fantasizing about. Can't wait. Btw, the people were so friendly. I asked the lady at the counter if they had soup. She walked me to the deli, showed me the kinds of soup and told me to ring the bell. I came here with my daughter to order sandwiches and go for a picnic (as it was a glorious day). We ordered our sandwiches at the deli with no other patrons ahead of us. It got busy after we ordered. It took a long time for our sandwiches to get ready (I guess that's just the pace of life up in this area). I thought it was strange that the fellow making our sandwiches came around the counter and handed us 1 sandwich and went back to make the other!!!!....I should've known he's not all that bright. We finally get both sandwiches and go on our picnic. When we opened the wrappers, we realized he had gotten both of our sandwiches wrong. My daughter's BLT sandwich had no lettuce on it and my sandwich had a ton of mayonnaise slathered on when I had clearly emphasized on "no mayonnaise". We couldn't eat these sandwiches. We had to pack up and go back to the deli, they offered to make new ones, but they had completely ruined our plans with their careless mistakes. If you work in a deli, then your #1 priority should be to get the sandwich right because I am not behind the counter to see what you are putting on my sandwich...simply disappointed. read more

My husband and I passed the deli on our way to Van Damme beach. We were going to go to the Little River Inn for dinner the first night, but saw that they had a full deli. I had the Samosa (reheated in a microwave but rather tasty!). I also had a sandwich (pesto) on dutch crunch (7.25- pricey but not bad). It was GREAT! Nicely packaged, too! Husband had fish and chips which he thought was good. They had candy and wine which was a pretty good price. I can't believe I am the first to review this gem! We were taking a stay-cation jaunt from home and decided to skip the big stores in Fort Bragg and try our luck at the Little River Market Deli on the way to the beach and so glad we did. They have a GREAT choice of sandwiches, including grilled, and a yummy looking selection of fresh pre-made sandwiches. We opted for the grilled and they came out on neat little wrapped styro plates and looked small at first and we were like wow, expensive for that little sammy but when we ate them they were SO good that the price made total sense. I had the grilled albacore sandwich and it had big yummy chunks mixed salad style and was awesome! Hubby had the Reuben and he loved his too. Also, they make the best deviled eggs I have ever had. Gigantic beverage selection including reasonable priced wines. I totally recommend this place and I will go here first for my next picnic. read more

Great combination of flavors and they cooked the fries properly which seems to be an issue with similar places. The only thing I would change is the beef patty that comes with the piggy burger. Just to be clear, my low rating is not about food or service. Its about the ownership. I recently moved into the area and was told this was a great place to grab a sandwich. So I did and it did not disappoint. So I went there well over 10 times the last month or so and then I heard some crumbling from other locals about the owner "Joe" and how he treated his employees. I just figured it was gossip, but one day I was going to the City and stopped to crab a pre made sandwich for the ride. I went in and heard yelling from the back. a mans voice yelling that "you don"t know what you're doing, don"t touch that etc.. A young lady came out of the back and was visible crying followed by the owner who saw me and turned and went back to the kitchen. I asked the girl if she was OK and she said just a bad day. So over the last couple days I've asked around the Local Mendocino coffee shops and I am surprised at how many locals will not go to The Market because of Joe and the way he treats people. They have told me of several different accounts that are clearly not isolated incidents. Talked to one person whose friend worked there for a short time who describes the owner as a bully. I for one have never gone back, I will not support a place that treats its employees in that manner.I went on Yelp to see what the reviews were like and its obvious that they are all passer-byes who have not seen the daily ins and outs of a "Bully gone wild". read more
