These people working here are absolutely miserable. Rude, overworked, either these people need raises or need to be gone. Sure they'll load your groceries when you order online but only if you pay the 10c per bag. They won't if you bring your own bags. They leave the cart full of groceries for you to bag on your own and then you also have to take the cart back. Might as well just shop in store. Then you only have to deal with the cashiers who are usually much more pleasant to deal with. Yall need to do better read more

My family loves the store! The majority of employees here are super friendly and very helpful. We especially like Edmond in the meat department and Brad who works in Produce. They will no longer help you order florals for delivery over the phone, so I had to go online and do it. This would have been fine except the online ordering was not easy to use and kept kicking me out. I finally got the floral delivery order placed for the next day, only to get an email, no phone call, stating that my order had been canceled, without explanation. When I called Safeway, there was no one to help me. The closing manager was absolutely useless and said there was nothing he could do because of what time it was. It was 430 on a Sunday afternoon. Our local Safeway has been a staple for our town both as one of the largest employers and also providing groceries. A great staff of helpful individuals work there and are itching to help. The selection has picked up since the supply chain issues have been sorted. Very clean and well kept too, great selection. read more

Store was extremely busy, packed and limited options. I can understand it takes a huge hit on being often the only stop in a large vicinity but extra staffing and stocking would be helpful for travelers. Parking lot is tight and packed for oversized rigs. Only regular size vehicles for pick up orders. read more

This is a smaller Safeway compared to others I have seen in California. They still have quite a lot and I was able to find cheese to go with the leftover wine though not a corkscrew and no glasses. The store is a bit older and in need of a refresh. They still have deli, produce, frozen, meat and fish counters. The self-checkout worked just fine. Quality/Quantity - Consistent. Atmosphere - Drive up & go grocery pickup - they redid the cart entrance to accommodate this new system. Plenty of parking Open 24 hours. Wells Fargo Bank in this location. Pharmacy, bakery, deli, propane, bakery, floral, produce, meat, seafood, western union, redbox, etc. Service - Our cashier just got lectured for taking a long break, so she took her frustrations out on the customers... Price - More expensive than our local Safeways, maybe there is no competition here? Or this location caters to tourists? Of course, I am referring to the local beer, see pictures. Ordered a sandwich from the Deli, which was great but the cleanliness of the glass surrounding the precut deli meats/cheeses/condiments had a significant amount of dust on it, enough to write your initials in it. I'm guessing that the SSOP protocals were not being completed on a daily basis. read more

Not sure why the low ratings on here. My girlfriend and I were in Mendocino for Thanksgiving from the Bay Area. We loved the nature up in the area yet compared to the Bay Area it was a bit of a food desert with expensive food and lack of vegan options. We looked all over Fort Bragg for a restaurant open on Thanksgiving with reliable vegan options. One Italian restaurant served pasta with veggies for a whopping $38 per dish. We decided to take things into our own hands going to Safeway. We arrived 10 minutes before they would be closing. We got salad, olive oil, lemon, whole wheat pasta, marinara sauce, and broccoli to make a nourishing humble Thanksgiving dinner at our Airbnb. Having picked up supplies at Safeway we had a memorable Thanksgiving meal. read more

No 15 items or less lines cashiers, unattended. Self-checkout has regulations around a bottle of wine. If you get more than one cashier here at a time, you're lucky! I've seen full carts to the brim, eight customers deep for a single cashier, queued well into the aisles. Cashiers are always really nice when you meet one. Great hours, mostly everything I want in stock, reward system, contactless online order pick up available. Can't ask for more from a grocery store in a small rural, occasionally touristy town. The deli is my husbands new sandwich place but it's also a hit or miss depending on who is in charge of the sandwich. The dry humor Asian looking guy makes the sandwiches the best. Yes the lines can get crazy.... It's really a hit or miss. Some customers still use check to pay! But most the employees have always been so nice, and I've always gotten good service at the desk for any mis-charges. Favorite purchases: $2.15 for English muffin bread loaf, 88¢/lb of pork once in awhile, BOGO frozen shrimp, frozen okra (my fav!), chayote, and decent Asian stuff when I'm in a pinch. read more

This place is Safeway heaven! 8 self checkout stand, a football field size store with everything that any Safeway carries except gas! The bakery is off the hook with all they have. I've lived here 20 years. I'm writing a 5 star review of Safeway. Who knew. Tara was the lone cashier tonight. Cool as a cucumber. So focused and relaxed and tolerant; tolerant of the two annoying and high maintenance parties ahead of me. The only cashier. There's a line. I work in customer service and hospitality 7 days per week. Tara is a star. When it was my turn, and my eyes fell on the "trainee" labeling on Tara's name tag, I had a laugh and asked how old that was. Tara is on day 6. Working alone, the only resister, at 10:30pm, two nights after Labor Day. Superstar. So smooth and professional, and deserving of recognition. And really, same for all the staff. I've never had a bad experience, except when the lines are backed up terrible at night. Tonight that was not the case. Thank you, Tara. read more

Store Curriculum Probably the worst grocery store I've ever been in, and it's not due to the employees but a mere victim if circumstance. Unfortunately, it's the only "normal" grocery store in the Ft Bragg and it always seems to be a complete shit-show inside. The Good: *Standard Safeway® prices and deals. *Didn't really interact w/ any employees but god bless 'em for continuing to work here under these circumstances. The Meh: *The parking lot is always full and the way these people drive 'round here is like a bunch of wild animals. The Ugly: *The entire store is always packed--we've been here 3× at different times of the day and it's always a nightmare. *The lines to checkout are always to the back of the store. If you have two people in your party it's probably a good idea to have someone get on-line before you're done to help expedite matters. TLDR: Avoid coming here if at all possible, but if you must maybe try super early in the morning. If not then just gird your loins and put on your patience pants. :0) read more

Food here is great. But Two of the male employees harassed me for "not smiling enough" for them. And when I don't do as they command, I'm then seen as a snotty b. Why would employees even be worried about whose smiling and whose not?? Am I there for your viewing pleasure? Just check my items out and let me be on my way! I don't appreciate being told what to do when ya ain't my boss! It's really not the greatest in terms of Safeways or grocery stores, but beggars can't be choosers. We came in on a return trip to Fort Bragg and were thankful to have this as literally the only major grocery store around. The store itself is a standard Safeway, but a lot of what makes it interesting is the clientele. It's the only big store for many a mile on a transient coastal road, meaning you'll get all kinds stopping in here - upscale beachside homeowners, weekend renters (us), locals who look like they've lived in the belly of a fishing vessel for years or psuedo-hippies looking for that laid back coastal life. Just the parking lot, which on our visit featured two competing vehicles bumping mumble rap and Grateful Dead, should tell you what you're in for. But I digress. They had everything we were looking for and the prices were about the same as I'd find in Sacramento. And one amazing manager's special on eggs. read more

Completely generic grocery store, nothing particularly special about it unless you consider it to be special to be made to feel like a Huge Problem if they scan your item and it doesn't match the price on the shelf. Not to mention the way they treat their employees--I've known people to get fired for having morning sickness during pregnancy, but they don't treat people nicely in general. Customer service desk opens up at 11...but the person who runs it is on lunch until...they can't tell you when, so you have to stand around and hope someone comes around eventually. It's a miserable place, probably about 80% of the time you can hear managers talking down to employees or speaking to elderly customers like they're stupid. Harvest Market can be a little pricier--but the environment is so much more pleasant. read more

Very unfortunate experience. We have long enjoyed Safeways across the state but this experience will be memorable for the wrong reasons. All we wanted was a few items in the evening and got trapped in the only available line behind an extremely "excited" employee as she bragged out loud about leaving work early due to a headache. It was obvious to every single customer and employee watching that Christine (Blonde female about 40 years old) was very high on a stimulant. This isn't acceptable in the workplace, and around the families shopping there. Terrible management as I sought to find one only to be told the store is understaffed. Everyone who works here is super nice, and I love that. But not only that, it has the convenience of having all your road trip needs in one spot! The deli makes pretty good breakfast burritos and other sandwiches as well. It's usually not too busy here, but there are times where the lines get a bit long. My boyfriend and I came in to town around 11pm and were so relieved that this place was still open. Got all the necessary snacks and beverages to take back to our lodge. The shopping carts are in very bad shape (thump thump thump). Its hard to find a decent one. The parking lot surface is so bumpy, that even a new cart would not last long. The place is a bit sleezy overall. Seems like they could do better, since its the most expensive Safeway in California. The produce couldn't hold a candle to Purity Market down the street. read more

Don't buy party supplies here! I have always been able to return packaged produce and sliced cheese at other supermarkets as long as the product was still fresh and sealed, and it was within 24 -48 hours. This store will not take it back, even though they can easily resell it and it was kept continuously refrigerated and I bought it last night. No wonder people no longer want to buy locally. Overall, this Safeway was your classic Safeway in terms of their selection of groceries, but I did have issues with the service at the deli. My girlfriend and I had to wait for about 15 minutes before someone finally came to take our orders for our subs, but even when they did they didn't seem to have many ingredients as our initial preferences for bread were met with the worker telling us they were completely out of that type (despite us seeing the worker earlier pull a loaf of the bread out and the store having each type of bread in stock), plus they were out of all the meats in the deli so the worker had to leave and check their supply then go cut the meats we asked for. Additionally, the bacon was not fresh at all. Overall for groceries this Safeway was your typical Safeway with whatever you needed but if you're looking to the deli to take any food to go, whether meats or subs or deli meat, I would recommend trying a different store as the wait times were long and the service wasn't that great. read more

Pay no attention to the posted hours here on Yelp. The store changed their hours 10 MONTHS AGO and didn't bother to update on the internet. Hours are 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM. I arrived shortly after midnight and was well into the store with my cart when a guy yelled at me "WE'RE CLOSED!" After all he would do it better than the other two who just kiss corporate butt to get their bonuses and make a huge mess of the schedule and don't have enough cashiers on the busiest days. but, continue to provide lazy customers the ability to drive up and be snotty to employees to use DOUG, Draining the meager pool of cashiers to check out people who bothered to come in to shop. Close Drive up and go. It's not worth having and stressed out employees who have to deal with customers who complain about the long wait to be checked out. We were traveling through and were pleasantly surprised. Very clean and appealing to the eye. Amazing selection and staff was helpful, as we didn't know the store. Stocked up for a week stay at a cabin and waited for fresh sushi made while we watched. Huge parking lot and easy to get to right on the main drag. read more
