Omg what a hidden gem! It's located in the back side of Nick's and by the valet. James so friendly and walked me through the menu. There are sooo many options! There was a nice vibe to the place too! I ordered the Baja Bowl with Carnitas and it didn't not disappoint (: Parking can be a challenge. But I would recommend you park closer to the front of nicks and walk. I look forward to coming back to try more! I wish there was agua fresas to complement the meal!

I always get the best service here. Always greeted with a smile and the food is super tasty!

The food is so fresh you can really taste the quality in the meat. I'm someone that prefers chicken breast over any other type of meat and I can say that I absolutely love this place. I go to Chapman. I live in Orange so I make the drive to Newport sometimes just for this burrito the Staff is so sweet, everyone is so nice and always smiling and accommodating. You can really taste the love in the food As well for the ambience it's a very clean environment - even the soda tap stood Out to me !! 10/10

Service was good, nice people. Food was tasty. However I was disappointed because they forgot the guac in my burrito and also the beans. This is my fault, but I didn't realize this burrito had lettuce or else I'd taken it out because the lettuce steamed up in the burrito and was mushy. Clean, tasty and nice staff.

Scrumptious fish tacos including generous salsa and sauces and tasty soft tortillas! Great for lunch or a snack for two.

The service was excellent, attentive, friendly, and welcoming throughout our visit. A funny side note: We had purchased two $20 gift cards from a friend about 1-2 years ago and had been meaning to visit ever since. When we arrived, we realized we couldn't find the gift cards anywhere. They must have been misplaced or lost at some point, and neither of us is sure when that happened! Despite our missing gift cards, we had a fantastic meal and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for great food, ambiance, and service. We were so hungry and we didn't even remember to take pictures hahaha

However, parking is not something you have to worry about for this spot as they have their own parking lot. The place has an open window concept, so you will not get out of there smelling like the food, however the rich flavors of Mexican cuisine can be definitely experienced. The decor is beautiful and picturesque. The staff were super friendly and attentive. So very attentive that they kept trying to take my plate as I was actively still eating lol but I know they were just trying to be attentive. I got the breakfast tacos. Simple but delicious. The flavors were so good. And the 2 tacos were super fulfilling. I enjoyed every single bite and I'd totally recommend it. I also got a mimosa to celebrate my graduation, although their mimosa flavors were basic and the orange juice was the bitter type. Also the glass for the mimosa wasn't the best. I attempted to cheer a couple times but it was filled to the top and it spilled everywhere. Anywho, the girls all loved their brunch and we totally recommend this spot. You'll feel like you went to a Cancun vacation

We waited almost 2 hours to be seated which is ridiculous! Once we finally got seated, our waiter was great and was very attentive. The food was great as usual, we absolutely DEVOURED the chips and guacamole! I had the Enchiladas Suizas which was a first time for me, I enjoyed them a lot and they had a little kick to it but nothing I couldn't handle. Overall our experience was a 6/10, though the wait was really long the food and vibes were great!

I've been coming here with my family for years, celebrating countless birthdays and special occasions, so I figured it was time to update my review. One of the biggest improvements is the remodel they completed a few years ago. The restaurant feels much larger, more open, and more modern. The atmosphere has always been a huge part of Javier's appeal. The food has consistently been good, but the prices have climbed higher and higher over the years. At times, they feel close to being a "ripoff", but the ambiance, ocean adjacent location, and overall experience help justify it. That said, the "scene" isn't quite what it used to be. Javier's has long been a staple of Newport Beach culture and will probably remain that way forever. Years ago, it felt like the place to see and be seen. Today, it feels more like a local institution than a hotspot, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. As a family with several vegetarians, one thing that has always bothered us is the pricing. Charging extra for beans and rice often makes certain vegetarian dishes more expensive than entrées that include meat, which feels hard to justify. My family's favorite vegetarian option is the spinach enchiladas, while my go to order is the three item combination plate with a chicken enchilada, taco, and chile relleno. While many people argue that South of Nick's serves better Mexican food, I respectfully disagree. South of Nick's may be more affordable, but I still think Javier's serves the best Mexican food in town. It's a great choice for date nights, family dinners, celebrations, or anyone looking for a classic Newport Beach experience. The service and overall food quality may have slipped slightly over the years, but Javier's remains my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Yes, the prices are outrageous, but the food, atmosphere, and tradition keep us coming back. Cool Fact: Kobe Bryant used to regularly come to Javier's and they had a drink called "the black mamba" named after him on the menu!

Mexican sounded good, so I decided to check it out. Great Mex is located right on the main strip on the Balboa Peninsula. It's very much a hole-in-the-wall space - with a super simple/casual set up. The space isn't large - you order your food at the counter and then there are a few tables where you can sit. I was lucky that the place was empty when I arrived - shortly after I sat to eat a bunch of people came and filled the tables. They have a good variety of Mexican dishes - nothing too outrageous, mostly things familiar to the American palate. I decided to get the two taco combo dish and chose al pastor as my protein. The tacos were super tasty - generously filled with two being enough if you're hungry but not starving. The dish came with rice and refried beans which were also good. They carry Mexican Coke, so I got one of those to finish the meal off. Service was great - they were super friendly and the food was ready relatively quickly. They also went above and beyond - two people in my party got fountain beverages but they noticed they were too watered down and were quick to replace the syrup and provide us new beverages. Overall, I had a good meal at Great Mex - definitely a standout on Balboa Peninsula.
