Celebrated my mom's 60th birthday here and had a wonderful experience thanks to our waiter JC. Not only was he super attentive to us but he sang to us more than once and had us laughing the whole night. If this waiter ever decides to do stand up we will be there to support him. The ambience was family friendly and we were seated with views to the boat dock and enjoyed watching people fish on occasion. My toddler and baby also enjoyed the views. The food was also pretty good. Our family tried everything from aguachiles to fajitas and street tacos. Ask JC for recommendations and you will not be disappointed. We were very disappointed with our experience at Sol Cocina, the service was extremely slow. It took about 30 minutes to get our first margarita, and we waited a long time before anyone took our order. The tuna carpaccio we ordered was unavailable, so we switched to the tuna ceviche, which was bland and lacked flavor. I asked for salt and lime, but neither ever arrived. My second margarita was so watered down it tasted like lime water. My friend's salad arrived after I had already finished my meal, and despite requesting extra beets and watermelon (and offering to pay extra), it contained very little of either. Slow service, poor communication, disappointing food, and high prices made this a very frustrating experience. Unfortunately, I would not return or recommend this restaurant. Came here for my birthday and had a great overall experience. The atmosphere was fun, the staff was friendly, and it made for a nice place to celebrate. The food took quite a while to come out, which was probably the biggest downside of the evening. I ordered the carnitas burrito and found it a little on the salty side, but the flavors were still good. We had our bookclub with a party of 16 here on Cinco de mayo and they were happy to accomadate our large party in their downstairs dining area. We were worried about parking but there is a nice large FREE lot if you're ok to walk a bit. It's right in the water so the view from the ground floor is lovely. The menu is identical to the Irvine location. Delicious! They had specials for Cinco de mayo so prices were good too! The corn is grated tableside which is fun! I would recommend getting a whole one for yourself though..my friend and I regretted sharing one. The vegetarian options are great too! Most of us got the sweet potato taco. I think the most special part of this place is the full size tortilla that she served as chips with a bean dip and salsa that are delicious...careful yo don"t fill up on them they are addictive! Our server seemed a little overwhelmed but it was a busy night. We only found 2 mistakes on the bill which they happily fixed. Came to eat and try the other location from SOL. The inside was pretty dim and kinda hard to see! Plenty of seating and kinda nice that you can see inside the kitchen! Service was a 2/5. Feel like it took long or time was delayed for the service. It gave me the vibes that he was new or something and seem a little of an inconvenience to him. And the fact that it wasn't busy also said something. Food was a 8/10 between all 3 of us. I feel like it was better than Irvine tho for sure. From the rice to the beans and all that. One thing I will say it said margaritas are 2.99 ALL DAY and was not truly informed of the information but regardless paid for the full price. Which in a way feel like false advertising but I'm not gonna argue with the waiter and just let it be. Will say tho will come back to try more stuff cuz the drinks were delicious!! The food was delicious and the ambiance a 10/10. The service was great from the moment we walked in everyone was nice and greeted you. We ordered the guacamole, ceviche and beet salad. My kids were excited because instead of chips it was whole round tostada chip. We had the steak fajitas as an entree and it was the best steak. The only thing that we weren't impressed with was the dessert, we had the sea salt caramel chocolate ganache. This is my favorite SOL location! The waterfront view is unbeatable. I love being able to bring my dog to their outdoor patio. Food is great and prices are reasonable! We had a very good experience at SOL! This was my second time dining at this location and third visit overall. We made a reservation but had to wait about 20 extra minutes to be sat. However, we got a great table right by the window on the water, so the wait was worth it 100%. Our waiter was super nice and helpful, he did have a lot of other large parties so he was putting in the work! The manager was also walking around helping tables which was nice. We weren't starving so we got a few things. We tried the guacamole (mixed with the complimentary salsa and bean dip was so good), chicken flautas, and one grilled steak taco with rice and beans. Everything was super good and you could tell was made fresh. I really liked my steak taco, I just wish the steak in it was cut up it would have been easier to eat (I made a mess of my top lol, maybe user error). Had a business dinner one night at SOL and it was a mediocre experience. First off, the food was ok at best. SOL charges a premium, but delivers lack luster food. The calamari breading was thick and because of this, some pieces were under fried. The chicken wings were so sweet, they might as well have called them candied wings. Next, the branzino, which really was a single filet that was dry. The carne asada burrito should have just been called a bean burrito. Lastly, the ceviche should have just been called a fruit salad. Unfortunately besides the food, the service needed improvements also. The hostess and our main server were great, but for the rest of the staff who served the table, based on the look on their faces, they made us feel like we were bothering them. All we wanted was some help clearing some plates off the table. All in all, there are plenty of better Mexican restaurants especially at this price point. read more

We decided to sit outside since the weather was great, and it made for a really enjoyable experience, especially with the nice marina view. I went with the quesadilla, which was a solid choice. The rice was ok but the beans were bland. The server was very nice and the restaurant itself is really nice but I wouldn't come back or recommend this place. Happened to come here as we parked right in front of it to go to the next door restaurant, and so happy we did! They had happy hour from 4-6 as well, and their menu had a lot of what we liked, so really cannot complain. The portions for the price was great, just thought that taquitos were not filled with as much shrimp as we had liked, but otherwise, everything was tasty! On Saturday 05/30/26 I decided to stop by and order a light meal. This is my 4th time eating at SOL and most likely will be my last. I was sat immediately with no reservation. I was sat at a seat where I could view the water and boats which I appreciated. I received chips and salsa immediately but waited for quite awhile to be asked if I wanted anything to drink. Gianella was my server and I asked for water and a ginger ale. I got my water immediately but the ginger ale took awhile to get. From what I could see my server had about 4 tables of customers to assist. When my server came with my ginger ale I ordered ONE Ensenada Fish Taco no rice no beans. My server came to my table and asked did I want my fish grilled or battered. I said battered. A male server brought me a plate with one grilled fish taco, rice & beans. I told him I didn't order this. He seemed confused so I told him I'll let my server know. I saw my server Gianella and immediately told her I was given the wrong food. She apologized and said I could go ahead and have the wrong food and she would put in the Ensenada Taco that I had ordered. I ate two bites of the rice from the plate of food that was given to me. My Ensenada taco finally came and I ate it. Now I'm sitting and waiting for my bill. Finally I asked a server not my server for my bill. She said my server was on her break. Normally when your server is on a break or clocking out they let you know that someone else will be your server. A male manager came to my table with my bill. The ginger ale I had ordered was not on the bill. I let him know and he said that's okay since my meal got messed up. I paid my bill had left the table. I stopped my the women's bathroom to wash my hands and the bathroom was a hot mess!!! Once I left the bathroom I looked to let any employee know about the messy women's bathroom but everyone was busy and honestly I didn't want to wait any longer. read more

Loved the location and loved the view. I wish I didn't have to pay for valet parking but at least it wasn't a long wait. Our hostess and server were both lovely. We were seated fairly quickly on a Monday afternoon (2pm) , atmosphere is nice as there is a view of the water. Waiter was excellent and he did his best with the circumstances. I wanted the a soup and salad, but was informed that there were no soups that day. Ok, no problem, I ordered the crab cakes with a side of Caesar salad and elote. Waiter came back to inform me that they were out of crab cakes, so I ordered the salmon. Waiter came back to inform me that they were out of salmon. Now I'm Not sure what else I want so I ask for the menu and before getting set I ask if he can check if they have fish tacos available. He confirmed that they did. Salad came out, croutons, dressing and romaine. Elote was as expected. Fish tacos were ok, nothing special. All in all for the price and quality I could have gone somewhere else and gotten better food and the food that I actually wanted. Great food with great ambience on the harbor with a nice view. Excellent service! Minus 1 star because the Filet & Shrimp El Jefe taco claims to use "grilled Angus filet", but it is not Filet Mignon! The complimentary chips, salsa, and bean dip were very nice. The plain Naked Guacamole was great. As was the Chorizo & Mushrooms Con Queso. The grilled Sweet Corn was excellent. Tableside cut off the cob. Wonderful street corn aioli. We almost needed one per person. The Carnitas Burrito done Bandera Style (wet with melted cheese) was great. This review has been a long time coming. It's been at least 3 or 4 months since I dined here. The first thing I must note is the mandatory valet parking. As if California specifically Newport is not expensive enough. Are you kidding me. Mandatory ballet? And then to watch them almost peel out in my vehicle. You've got to be kidding me. The food is so so typical franchise Mexican food. Nothing to write home about. And definitely not authentic Mexican as I have been to Mexico and ?an attest to its non- authenticity. Easily got reservations for a Sunday night at 5:30 and was able to sit on the patio with a great view of the water and boats. Restaurant is mid-sized and wasn't busy upon arrival but started getting more full by the time we headed out at 7. I personally didn't have a margarita but they looked delish. The table salsa and bean dip was tasty and we all appreciated the large tortilla chips that were like little tostada shells. I got the shrimp chili rellano and they were able to customize for me which I appreciated. I'd rate it 3/5. Was a bit spicy for me (even without the spicy sauce) and a different take on the dish since it wasn't deep fried. My boyfriend got the carne asada burrito and it was a solid choice. Friend got the popcorn cauliflower taco and enjoyed it. We celebrated birthday and they gave us a big plate of "nachos" made with deep fried chips covered in chocolate and I believe caramel sauce, cinnamon, and whipped cream. So good! Overall it was a good experience and we talked about visiting again. Valet is $6. I think there's lot parking but we didn't find it immediately so we opted to valet. read more

Let me start off by saying the food was great. The manager and the service not so much. When we arrived at close to 5pm, they asked if we had a reservation and the answer was no. We were told that we had to be seated in the basement or outside, even though there a bunch of open tables. We sat outside. In fact, even after we were done eating, the tables inside were still empty. There was no reason we could not have been seated inside. Our server was negligent and un attentive.
