We loved Sancho's Tacos so much while visiting Newport Beach that we ate there three days in a row! The first visit was for breakfast in the restaurant, and breakfast burritos did not disappoint. The next two were takeout trips to enjoy at the beach. On our first stop, I ordered the chicken tacos, one of my daughters had the shrimp tacos, and my other daughter got the beef burrito. Everything was outstanding. The burrito was especially impressive, and everyone loved their meal. The real star of the show for me was the chips and salsa. The chips are an easy 5 stars. They were perfectly crunchy, fresh, and tasted homemade. The salsa was authentic, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. I enjoyed them so much that I went back another day just to order a large bag of chips and salsa for the beach. If you love great homemade tortilla chips, this place will not disappoint. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was hip and welcoming, and the staff was friendly during every visit. I make it a point to try tacos wherever I travel, and Sancho's definitely ranks among my favorites. Great food, nice people, and a great overall experience. We normally eat at the Huntington Beach location as we frequent HB. We were in Newport last weekend and ate here for lunch since we discovered Chihuahua had closed down in the same lot. This is the one Sancho you don't have to worry about. Once she tastes the food, she'll be back. The steak had a weird sweetness to it that I wasn't expecting, almost like Korean bbq. 1 star for customer service -- the cashier was super kind and sweet. But no stars for the food. I paid $34 for two tacos, carnitas and tri-tip, and both came with the "chubbie sauce." Not my style -- I think it should be offered on the side as an option. The tri-tip had too much cumin in it. I'm 100% Mexican, and these tacos must have a twist to them, fused with something but they're not Mexican tacos, : ( neither the carnitas nor even the tortilla, which was way too oily, more like a tostada, hard and chewy . My 7-year-old loves beans, rice, and guacamole, so we also ordered chips. The salsa was watery with no flavor. He gave the beans and rice a 2 and the guacamole a 1. He took one bite of the taco and chose not to continue eating it, he looked around and asked how anyone could like this food. I liked the casual grungy vibe. We got a ton of tacos. The food presentation was pretty impressive. It was very busy so it's obviously a popular spot, or otherwise it's the closest taco spot by the beach. The food is less the traditional Mexican food and seemed like more of a Mexican/California surf culture fusion, especially with their Chubbie sauce. Apparently the Chubbie sauce is a local favorite, but it was too sweet for me; just not my thing. Sancho's wins the 'closest to the house' on this vacation. I got a breakfast burrito that was one of the best ever! Correct portions of crispy chorizo, fluffy perfectly scrambled eggs, potatoes chopped small enough to get potato in every bite. The two cheeses added a surprising addition. I had a salsa that tasted as if maple syrup had been added. I split the burrito with my granddaughter and we each had an issue finishing our halves. Great value. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch on a Friday in late August. The place is very casual with a grungy ambiance. You order and pay first before sitting. They don't really have outdoor dining but the inside is very airy. Service was friendly and laidback. Food came out quickly after ordering. You just can't go wrong at Sancho's! Located just a hop, 4 skips and 8 jumps from the beach and has a few seats on their covered deck with an ocean view...so beautiful...just can't have glass on the deck so no beers out there unfortunately. It's a walk-up register and seating is first come first serve. Got the opportunity to link up with one of my amazing friends who I haven't seen in years and who also happens to be a Chef de Cuisine of a very high end restaurant group and we loved the food! He liked it so much he went back and introduced another friend of ours to Sancho's the next day so HA! that's a nice stamp in your passport book of reviews ME: the surf & turf burrito + HE: a fish & a shrimp taco = total taste bud satisfactory compadres! Friendly staff, active and moving employees, great ambiance. As for the food, I think it had a style to it that almost benefitted from sauces so therefore the burritos didn't have much in them other than the protein, starches and vegetables. We visited Sanchos NB on 3/12/2026 around 7pm. Lots of Spring breakers in town. They only had 3 people that I could see working at the time, tall white guy handling the register, delivering orders to customers, etc, he also stopped to push the overflowing trash in the can down using the re-usable trays they serve your food in. Then he placed the trays on the counter for reuse, didn't get washed, and he never washed his hands! There was food, and litter all over the kitchen, seating area, and we didn't see one employee changing gloves or following any kind of protocols for food handling being used! Won't be back to this location, but may check out the HB location to see if it's any cleaner. Very sad read more

The chicken quesadillas did not look like the restaurant photo! They were small, not enough chicken, not enough cheese, and not tasty at all for approx $15. I ordered off the restaurant website this morning and was told I wasn't supposed to order quesadillas in the morning, but it's on their website in the morning. The lunch and dinner menu is a 5 star let me start with that. It's always our go to when we need a quick bite. The breakfast is a 3 star (hence the 4 star middle ground.) The vegetarian taco was lacking flavor and the mushrooms tasted a little bit funky. The chubbie and chipotle sauce saved it. The breakfast burrito was wayyyyy over salted. Luckily I wasn't the one who got it but my boyfriend was struggling eating it. I think it was just an accident I'm hoping that they don't usually salt them that much. RIP OFF ALERT!!! $17.60 for the Surf & Turf and $18.45 for the Caliguey!!! Didn't realize this until after I got my family to the counter and didn't want to disappoint them... but the food did that for me. The burritos didn't have much in them but at least the flavor was decent (but nothing special). My wife and son got the bean & cheese burritos because they felt bad for spending almost $20 on the a burrito they wanted. But they were even more bummed because they tasted mid and fell apart because the beans were so runny and greasy. BUT THIS IS WHAT PISSED ME OFF THE MOST: they offer a variety of hot sauces and you get ONE CUP per order!!! You want more? They charge you a DOLLAR per extra cup!!!!!!! WTF?! But the kicker is they don't tell you when you order or have it on their menu so I had no idea until I got the bill. This is probably our third time here. The place is tiny but with a good cool chill vibes. This time we got the OG taco, tri-tip quesadilla, tortilla chips and a fountain drink. Their OG taco is good, with generous amount of tri-tip in it. I enjoyed it. My husband enjoyed the tri-tip quesadilla..it was cheesy and good. It was also a healthy portion. I visited Sancho's tacos for a late lunch. I ordered the shrimp taco and the tri-tip tacos. Both tacos were served quickly and they pack a lot of meat into each taco. The shrimp were cooked well and the flavor was good. However the tri-tip taco did not deliver. The meat tasted more like it belonged in a stew than a taco and was not what you would expect when ordering a beef taco in Southern California. read more

I usually love Sanchos, especially after a long day at the beach. I ordered the chicken nachos and a drink for $21. The chips in the nachos were very soggy and not crunchy / crispy at all. It felt like I was eating reheated day old nachos. I was expecting more from sanchos! I usually love their food but this time it wasn't good. I was only able to eat a few bites due to the soggy chips. Besides that, service was quick and food came out fast. It is a tiny shop with a few seating arrangements and it is usually packed. I went to Sanchos in Huntington Beach a few days ago and couldn't stop thinking about the surf and turf tacos. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned, the steak was juicy and cut up so there were no weird rubbery chunks. I enjoyed my lunch there so much! The girl at the register was super friendly. I saw there was a closer location to me in Newport so I tried it tonight. I was so hungry and didn't see tacos available on the order ahead menu so I opted for the surf and turf burrito and a side of 4 pieces of churros. The burrito was a good size, but I only ate a 1/4th of it. The shrimp and steak are both so overcooked and rubbery. The shrimp very fishy tasting. The steak wasn't juicy and flavorful like at the other location. The churros were also disappointing and super hard and stale. Totally different experience which sucks. Even the fountain drink Diet Coke was all syrup and I tossed it. What a waste of $35. read more

Some of the best tacos I've ever had. Can't go wrong for the price point and the quality. The menu is broad! There's a lot to choose from. The soda fountain dispenser is accessible to customers so you can get refills which is great. Classic taco place. HB location might not accept Apple Pay. The Newport location did. The only thing I would critique is that my burrito didn't taste like a classic cali despite the same ingredients. Was really disappointed by my recent experience at Sancho's. I used to eat there at least once a week when I lived in Orange County. I'd order tacos and walk down to the beach and they were guaranteed to be good (and affordable). I'm not sure what's changed, but recently I drove up to OC to run some errands and made a point of stopping in. I was extremely disappointed. First of all, the prices have gone up significantly. One fried fish taco is now almost $10. After I got over the sticker shock, I decided to proceed because I used to genuinely love their food. I got to my car and opened the package excitedly and took a bite...and the tacos were cold. They used to make the tacos fresh as you ordered, I'm not sure what's changed has happened. Beyond that, my fried shrimp taco had shrimp with the tails still attached and was also completely cold. The batter on both was also different, maybe because the fish had been sitting for a long while. I used to boost this place so much to all of my friends but...it's no longer worth it. I didn't have time to go back into the restaurant and complain and have them remake them because I had to head to another appointment, but I really wish I did. read more

This restaurants proximity to the beach is one of the best parts of it. The sunsets this time of year are perfect to grab a bite at Sanchos and go eat on the beach! HUGE fan of their breakfast burritos. Tacos are OKAY compared to alternatives. When you ask for salsas for your tacos a few girls who work this location always say "there's salsa already on them" and stand firm on charging extra for regular sides of salsa - even when you're paying $30+ for your family. They don't actually load up your tacos with salsa which is why I ask for more in the first place. Unappreciated when establishments do things like this. read more
