I went with the tri tip burrito and although it wasn't the worst food i've ever had in my life, there was nothing really special about it. The tri tip was kind of dry and it was smothered in beans and sauce to compensate for the lack of actual flavor.

Love the vibe. Food was killer. I'll be at the tacos fell apart because they were so saturated with sauce, but flavor was amazing and the beer was cold. We ended up sitting on the curb in front of the restaurant because there was very limited seats and a lot of people

I liked the casual grungy vibe. We got a ton of tacos. The food presentation was pretty impressive. It was very busy so it's obviously a popular spot, or otherwise it's the closest taco spot by the beach. The food is less the traditional Mexican food and seemed like more of a Mexican/California surf culture fusion, especially with their Chubbie sauce. Apparently the Chubbie sauce is a local favorite, but it was too sweet for me; just not my thing. At the end of the day, I did enjoy my food, but I wasn't blown away by anything for the price we paid.

Sancho's wins the 'closest to the house' on this vacation. I got a breakfast burrito that was one of the best ever! Correct portions of crispy chorizo, fluffy perfectly scrambled eggs, potatoes chopped small enough to get potato in every bite. The two cheeses added a surprising addition. I had a salsa that tasted as if maple syrup had been added. I split the burrito with my granddaughter and we each had an issue finishing our halves. Great value.

My husband and I came here for lunch on a Friday in late August. The place is very casual with a grungy ambiance. You order and pay first before sitting. They don't really have outdoor dining but the inside is very airy. Service was friendly and laidback. Food came out quickly after ordering. I enjoyed my food but didn't think the tacos were anything to rave about.

You just can't go wrong at Sancho's! Located just a hop, 4 skips and 8 jumps from the beach and has a few seats on their covered deck with an ocean view...so beautiful...just can't have glass on the deck so no beers out there unfortunately. It's a walk-up register and seating is first come first serve. Got the opportunity to link up with one of my amazing friends who I haven't seen in years and who also happens to be a Chef de Cuisine of a very high end restaurant group and we loved the food! He liked it so much he went back and introduced another friend of ours to Sancho's the next day so HA! that's a nice stamp in your passport book of reviews ME: the surf & turf burrito + HE: a fish & a shrimp taco = total taste bud satisfactory compadres! Food came out quick and it was a HIT...saaaay less.

Best sunset views to enjoy the BEST battered fried fish tacos!! Everyone is cool here, young crowd always working and super busy, and friendly no matter how crowded and hectic it gets. Just a cool vibe. Consistently great food and service. It's my favorite place to recommend to anyone visiting Newport. Recently tried their churros too? That warm, sweet caramel sauce is a perfect dip!

When in Newport Beach you just have to stop at Sancho's Tacos! The place has a fun atmosphere and the workers are nice. The food is great! There is limited seating, so plan accordingly. Great for a snack or a full meal, this place is great!

Anything but a regular burrito is $$$$

RIP OFF ALERT!!! $17.60 for the Surf & Turf and $18.45 for the Caliguey!!! Didn't realize this until after I got my family to the counter and didn't want to disappoint them... but the food did that for me. The burritos didn't have much in them but at least the flavor was decent (but nothing special). My wife and son got the bean & cheese burritos because they felt bad for spending almost $20 on the a burrito they wanted. But they were even more bummed because they tasted mid and fell apart because the beans were so runny and greasy. BUT THIS IS WHAT PISSED ME OFF THE MOST: they offer a variety of hot sauces and you get ONE CUP per order!!! You want more? They charge you a DOLLAR per extra cup!!!!!!! WTF?! But the kicker is they don't tell you when you order or have it on their menu so I had no idea until I got the bill. I have been a customer here for many years and $ancho$ has always been the most expensive Mexican option... but now they are just a rip off and I will never come back.

The lunch and dinner menu is a 5 star let me start with that. It's always our go to when we need a quick bite. The breakfast is a 3 star (hence the 4 star middle ground.) The vegetarian taco was lacking flavor and the mushrooms tasted a little bit funky. The chubbie and chipotle sauce saved it. The breakfast burrito was wayyyyy over salted. Luckily I wasn't the one who got it but my boyfriend was struggling eating it. I think it was just an accident I'm hoping that they don't usually salt them that much. Coming back around with the non breakfast menu though it's amazing and the chubbie sauce is so good. Def stop by for lunch but skip the breakfast!!!

This is probably our third time here. The place is tiny but with a good cool chill vibes. This time we got the OG taco, tri-tip quesadilla, tortilla chips and a fountain drink. Their OG taco is good, with generous amount of tri-tip in it. I enjoyed it. My husband enjoyed the tri-tip quesadilla..it was cheesy and good. It was also a healthy portion. The chips tasted fresh and love their right crunchiness. Together with their salsa makes it even better. They do serve beer. How I wish they also serve margaritas. Service is good too. For a fast food, they still go around when they get the chance to check if you're okay or if they can get you anything.

We came here on a recommendation and enjoyed our lunch. We had the fried fish taco which I would have again, the OG steak taco was... meh. The shrimp taco and grilled fish taco were good. Service was quick and ambiance was fun. A bit above average food.

Food is good. Terrible service. The employees definitely look a little homeless and they could care less about your experience.

We also saw some dude try to get a drink for what may have been his minor girlfriend. And the manager on duty shut it down HARD. Kudos to you! But seriously, the tacos were so good! Thanks!

To be honest, I…read morewasn't feeling most of the places I encountered - however a family friend said they had tried Great Mex and had good things to say. Mexican sounded good, so I decided to check it out. Great Mex is located right on the main strip on the Balboa Peninsula. It's very much a hole-in-the-wall space - with a super simple/casual set up. The space isn't large - you order your food at the counter and then there are a few tables where you can sit. I was lucky that the place was empty when I arrived - shortly after I sat to eat a bunch of people came and filled the tables. They have a good variety of Mexican dishes - nothing too outrageous, mostly things familiar to the American palate. I decided to get the two taco combo dish and chose al pastor as my protein. The tacos were super tasty - generously filled with two being enough if you're hungry but not starving. The dish came with rice and refried beans which were also good. They carry Mexican Coke, so I got one of those to finish the meal off. Service was great - they were super friendly and the food was ready relatively quickly. They also went above and beyond - two people in my party got fountain beverages but they noticed they were too watered down and were quick to replace the syrup and provide us new beverages. Overall, I had a good meal at Great Mex - definitely a standout on Balboa Peninsula.
