Today I went with my wife to this restaurant to try it out for the first time. 30 minutes to wait for a small plate with nothing but disgust. i ordered a plate with chow mein and chicken with vegetables. The vegetables looked expired and old, sickening. The chow mein looked like chewable bubblegum and very cold. The only things that was quite appetizing was the chicken. Didn't enjoy my meal. I love this place. This location is actually pretty new, however, it used to be at a different location with a different name. But the cooks and even the lady at the front are the same as the old location! My family and I have been dining with them for over two decades! Their food is definitely the best Chinese food I have ever had. Their servings are pretty large and at a great price! My favorite is broccoli and beef with chow mein! Definitely a must have! I've lived in Madera for a little under 2 years and went to Liu's Village a few weeks ago for the first time and was kicking myself for not going sooner! been here a few times and had great food and service. this time we were helped by a teenage girl with red long ugly nails and she had a horrible attitude. my best advice to her is fine a better job if you're not happy with where you're at... we waited 40 minutes for two plates that we never received. she never updated us on the status so when we asked her about the food she said they were preparing it so we waited another 5 minutes but still nothing so we left. let me remind you it was a slow night with no other tables waiting for their meals. First, I love what they did with the building. They must have made a significant investment to renovate it and it shows. I typically don't crave Chinese food or get it all to often, but Liu's hasn't disappointed yet. The cashew chicken is my favorite and the accompanying vegetables are fresh and delicious. Don't be fooled. I read half the comments thought the 1 and 2 stars were over exaggerated. Nope. Teriyaki chicken was sour and salty not sweet, chow Mein was slimey (it's just soggy pan fried noodles) everything was bland. Orange chicken was soggy the breading was mushy and fell off. Came to Madera for a work trip and decided to place an order to go based off of their reviews on Yelp. I called in and ordered pork fried rice and sweet-n-sour chicken. Order only took 10 minutes which was great but once II got back to my hotel and opened the bag, they had only given me my pork fried rice. Since I was already back in my hotel room, I decided not to go back to pick up my sweet-n-sour chicken. I suppose I could've called to complain but after a long day of work, I thought the pork fried rice was enough food anyway. Just wanted to post a review to make sure that you check your to go order first before you walk out of the restaurant. Pork fried rice was ok; a little too much fat on the pork for my taste. Are all these 1 Star people going to the same place I did? This is some of the best Chinese I've ever had. The chow mein is fantastic. It has a gravy on it that is so flavorful. It's the first time I've ever passed on immediately reaching for the soy sauce when eating chow mein, because it's that good. The entrees are delightful as well, and reasonably priced. Our favorite is the Mongolian beef, paired with the pan fried noodles. They also have really good potstickers. Service has always been top notch. We have a 13 month old right now and they are so sweet with him. They offer some white rice in a bowl, they are understanding of the messes he makes (maybe because the see us frantically trying to clean up) and it has consistently been a really pleasant experience all three times we've been so far. I always thought we would have to continue driving to Fresno for Chinese (Hunan is our go-to spot) but Liu's is really making it much easier to dine in Madera. read more

I was only looking for an upgrade from standard road food when I stopped by Liu's but was treated to a delightful dish. I tried the sesame chicken, wary that it might be a puffy donut with chicken hidden inside like so many cheap versions of the dish. But the breading was light and crispy, the sweetness tempered by a touch of heat. But the pan fried noodles sealed the deal with the perfect chewy texture one hopes for. I called in an order for 2 meals and egg rolls. They said it would be 15 mins. I waited 40 mins. They charged me $37 and gave me 3 meals. Didn't realize it until after I left. I call to ask what happened and she insists I asked for 3 meals and I did not. I get back to eat the food and there's no napkins, no utensils. The egg rolls are disgusting I almost vomited. The rice and chicken I got isn't much better. Absolutely never ever going here again. Stay away. read more

Atmosphere was great, Nicole, our server was very busy with the after church lunch crowd, yet still checked on us timely and frequently enough that we were completely satisfied. Now, the food. It was the best Chinese food we've found in Madera. The sweet and sour pork was great, as was the pork fried rice, and pork chow mein. The Pot Stickers were big and full and just great!
