Cute restaurant in a very non descriptive strip mall. I stopped in here when I was waiting for my Indian food two doors down. Happened to be visiting Madera from the Bay Area, so took a chance on the food to go. The pork larb was very generic and I even ordered medium spice !! Pork larb is like ordering spaghetti - sets the tone. My other dishes were good but nothing screamed at me. The helpful smiley staff were nice . My rating is based on the staff and timing of the foods. My Thai coffee was great fuel for my three hour drive home. read more

Went to visit my parents in Madera today. I decided I didn't want to make sides for the meat we were bbqing and decided to get rice and noodles here. We got pad kee mow with chicken and pineapple rice with pork. They were both delicious and I would for sure come back to try other things. Only losing one star because my rice had chicken and my noodles had no meat but still very good. The staff was kind when we picked up the food. Sorry but I forgot to take pictures. **Review from 2024 .......... Added here from previous trip** So finally tried Thai Basil. Here is my honest review.... I am sooo glad we have something different in Madera. With that said here we go... Service.. service was super slow for an empty Sunday night. The young lady taking orders had no clue what sauces were on the dishes, had no clue what the ingredients were, she couldn't explain anything, she read the description on the menu back to me. She stated she had not had most dishes there. Her description of the cucumber salad was it's cucumber in a clear watery sauce.. ‍ I'm happy she was there to take our orders and she was nice. Presentation.. Presentation was quite nice for Madera! It was nice to see simple, yet pretty playing! The curry soup.. the flavors were quite muted for Thai food IMO. It was a good difference in texture having it topped with wontons. We ordered it medium spicy as well, which was great. The spicy pork flat noodle dish had great heat at medium spice level, wish I would have gone hot, since I like things SPICY . The texture of the pork was quite tough since they used a leaner cut of meat which was ok. I was surprised at the amount of meat on the plate for a noodle dish. Speaking of noodles they were almost sprinkled in in super small pieces, but the texture was on point. We wished there were more noodles. The broccoli seemed out of place I wish there was more Chinese broccoli which was cooked to perfection!!! The cucumber salad was delicious!!! We both stated we wished the onions weren't three inches long. I will definitely be making this at home! It would be a perfect pairing to grilled chicken or shrimp for a nice summer dinner!! We loved it!!! Saltiness of the food.. I think of Thai as having a few key flavors and the dishes are definitely on the saltier side, this was lacking salt, butttttt I prefer more salt than most people so not a true fair assessment. I was surprised there weren't any sauces on the table. Design and lay out.. it was very small inside but they did well with the space allotted and I loved the decor. The place needs a good dusting, we sat next to the wall and the wood was white with dust directly over the table. Overall it was a great meal considering I didn't have to cook, the plating was lovely, and it was something different for Madera! I wish them well!!! I'm happy they are here!!! Buttttttttt so far Coconut Cafe in Merced has a strong hold on our heart!! I can't wait to go back and try the Larb and the Pad Thai! read more

When I moved to Madera a couple years ago I did not realize at first what a "food desert" it is. There are several good Mexican and other Latin eateries but not many other types of food, besides a couple mediocre chains and a couple local ones plus fast food. I love Thai food and this restaurant delivered on my faves - Tom Kha, Larb, Pad Ka Prow. The staff was very nice, food was hot when we picked it up. Sadly I think there were only 2 tables I think so would feel a bit cramped to eat in. Maybe they'll get popular enough to expand (hint hint?) some day. Don't leave Thai Basil! 10/5/24 Getting lunch! Ordered their chicken & tofu Pad See Ew, extra spicy and their Poh Pia Sod with Shrimp. The worker was kind and said it would be ready in 15 min. Walked in to pick it up shortly later. Let worker know and it was ready and waiting. Worker was very kind. I paid for the order and it was handed over with well wishes! Great! Restaurant is very nice! Calm and low key. Bar tables and chairs along with lower ones. Lunchtime! Order split! Chicken Tofu Pad See Ew portion was Fantastic! Full over flavor with fresh veggies and plenty of chicken & tofu included! Just Great! Nice, spicy kick too! Poh Pia Sod with shrimp 1/2 was GREAT! Really Graz and DELICIOUS and the sauces included made it even better!! Mother said her lunch was really Great & flavorful! Leftovers for both too! Great service & Really Great lunch! Drove passed this establishment several times until we finally decided to give it a try. It's a small intimate place with nicely dim lighting. Don't understand why most restaurants in Madera have super bright and annoying light, Blance Dubois would never tolerate. Anyway, the owners are very welcoming. The food came out hot and super fresh. Finally a great restaurant in Madera on many levels. There were a few other happy customers there as well. I could hear them talking about how good their food was. Came here on a Saturday afternoon on a whim, and was pleasantly surprised. The space is small and cozy and very well decorated. We got the coconut shrimp for an appetizer, followed by Pad Kee Mow and Boat Noodle Soup, everything tasted great. The Thai tea was the perfect amount of sweet and creamy. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. I love eating Thai food fresh at the restaurant it's just not the same when you take it home but to each own . Service is good place is always clean. We went to this establishment June 21st 2024 The food was relatively good 4 out of 5 Portions are not that great 3 out of 5 Business size 2 out of 5 (too small) Service 1 out of 5 A party of 4 showed up to this establishment and it was completely empty. We were greeted nicely. We asked for waters, soda and iced Thai tea. We asked for an appetizer and 3 meals (two of us were sharing, thus the portion issue). The meals came out but not the appetizer. By this point, two other people that we knew but were not originally in our party, showed up. They were talking to us and then sat next to us. The server took their order and we continued the conversation. She came out with their meal (still no appetizer). She then attended another couple that showed up and sat away from us. We said hi to them but that was it. When we were nearly done with our meal, the server asked me I we still wanted the appetizer and we said absolutely not. Here's where it gets good... When I got the bill (it's on me) I payed for the party of 4 (the other two payed separately) I specifically told the server that I wanted to pay the tip with cash and she replied no worries you can do so. However, she actually added a tip on our bill!!!! 18%!!! So because that happened and I didn't notice, I payed her extra with cash!! And of course she didn't tell me!! So, this was a bit disappointing and dishonest. Had I known that by other two people sitting near us and us just talking to them was going to automatically add an 18% service fee on, then we would've just gone somewhere else. Nice small place in Madera. I ordered food to-go but came in to order to check out this new location. The hostess was friendly and happy to help. I ordered the Basil fried rice with chicken - delicious, flavorful and a great amount; Som Tum Thai extra sour and medium spice - tasty! just the right amount of heat with a pleasant sour but not too sour ; Pad See Ew chicken- good mix of flavors, sauce and noodles; lastly, Green curry chicken & tofu -just the right amount of coconut & spice - veggies were delicious egg plant bamboo shoots were cooked just perfect. Loved it all!!! There was so much food for leftovers for brunch. I will definitely come back and order the same or the other 1/2 of the menu. read more
