    Red Oak slab
    Dano R.

I'm looking for a couple of 8'-9' foot live edge slabs for a basement bar and visited this establishment. The staff (Nicole) was very helpful in explaining the process as well as showing me what the current inventory had to offer. They had a decent supply of Live edge slabs from various types of trees including: Black walnut, Sycamore, Beech, Ash, White Oak, Red Oak, etc. They also have smaller pieces (round pieces) of live edge for various wood projects such as tables, shelves, etc. You can also purchase a slab and they will hold it until your ready to use it which is very important in my case.

The first cooking class was Latin steak night where we made steak with chimichurri and gelato for dessert. The second cooking class was crabcake with steak and garlic aïoli with oven roasted asparagus and chocolate lava cake. It was such a delicious meal. And she is a fantastic instructor. I've signed up for my third class and can hardly wait. As for the store itself, the staff are really nice. I've purchased a number of items here. If you take a cooking class you also get 10% off in the store which I took advantage of. They have a beautiful selection of just about everything you would ever need for your kitchen and serving goods. What's not to like about that?

The room for the class isn't very big. The class consisted of 3 tables of 8. Twenty-four people per class is too big. It felt too cozy. I've taken a Sur La Table class before but it's been awhile. I remember it being more hands-on. In this class, we barely did anything. The lobster was cooked and cut for us. We cut some herbs and mixed the dressing. Not very exciting. The potatoes were pre-cooked and one person from each table got to smash them. We were given all the ingredients for the pie and we threw it all together and into a pan. The dough for the roll was premade for us. We each took a piece and rolled it into the shape of a roll. The Rickey was made for us. I wouldn't take another class.

No matter the time of year I love visiting Downtown Home & Garden. My previous review stated, "I love any store where I can get tulip bulbs, a new bird house, a winter hat shaped like a Christmas tree, a new cookie sheet and a loaf of Zingerman's bread" and all that still rings true. But these days I also add national parks merch, gear for my dogs, holiday decor, kitchen gadgets and cookbooks and, perhaps most exciting for a Polish broad like myself, a variety of Polish pottery pieces. In the spring and summer months I can be found perusing peony bulbs for my garden, hummingbird feeders, bird seed and squirrel proof bird feeders, planters, plants/starters for my veggie garden, pest control and fertilizers, plus a variety of lawn decor and sculpture pieces, etc. Some things can be kind of pricey but you truly get what you pay for. Even after years out in the elements everything I've bought for my yard here is still in amazing condition, my plants from here always yield the most delicious fruits and veggies, and the little birdies are so happy with the snacks we provide them from their bins.
