DJ Jacob was THE BEST! Two weeks before my wedding, it was apparent that the DJ we were going to use was going to flake out. That's a long story, but the short story is that I had to start looking for a new DJ with only 16 days to go before the big day. My first step was to go back to all of the DJs we had researched to see if any of them were still available, which brought us to DJ Sean. He was booked, of course, but he referred us to the rest of the DJs at Live Oak to see if any of them were available. Lucky for us (REALLY lucky, as it would turn out) DJ Jacob was available! First of all, the experience talking with the Event Coordinator, Shay, was SO wonderful. She was very quick to respond (something I found is difficult to say about wedding vendors of any kind!) and very friendly and professional. She directed me toward Jacob and that is when Jacob and I began emailing a little. I had a good feeling while emailing with him, but was SO happy at the turn of events once we talked on the phone. I could tell that he was going to be able to make our vision a reality! He was on board with our non-traditional music selections for the ceremony, and had lots of great advice on some things I thought I wanted, but he advised me of ways to make it even better -- and he was so right! He timed the music for our ceremony PERFECTLY. We had one very specific request about the kiss at the end of the ceremony -- we had envisioned the recessional song starting as we kissed, rather than at the very end as we walked out. The song was Strawberry Swing by Coldplay -- and he got the timing JUST right! It was amazing! One of my best friends (who didn't know this was planned) said she thought she was in a movie!!! Never before have I worked with someone who paid so much attention to what we wanted and tot he details! He was spot on! The rest of the evening was exactly perfect, as well. Jacob played the songs we asked for for the other typical wedding activities (cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc). He also kept the crowd dancing while still trying to incorporate the songs we had asked to play. Not only that, but he helped keep the schedule of the evening on track, which was so helpful. At the end of the night after the music was over, he even took charge on getting a small crowd of people out to the front of the house for the send-off when it seemed that people were a bit confused about where to go. All that to say, I would recommend DJ Jared (and probably anyone at Live Oak DJ, based on my experience working with Shay, DJ Sean and DJ Jared) in a heartbeat. Music is REALLY important to me in my everyday life, and I wanted it to be a major and significant part of our wedding -- something that stood out. DJ Jared definitely made that happen! Mike Marischen from Live Oak DJ did a phenomenal job with the sound for our October 2013 ceremony and reception in Austin! We interviewed DJ's from four companies and Mike was the most down-to-earth, easy to talk to, and clearly passionate about providing "perfect" service to give your wedding the sound you want it to have. He was also one of the lower prices (albeit all within a similar range) for what we needed. Our event was entirely outdoors and the venue already had a lot of string lights so we really only used him for sound services - very minimal lighting was needed. For the ceremony, the sound was always clear and at just the right volume. He had wireless mics for the officiant and groom and a standing mic for readers. I'm not actually sure where the speakers were because I never noticed them on the day and haven't spotted them in any photos so his setup was kept out of the way, but in such a way that it was still effective! We used Live Oak's online system (super easy) to tell him what we definitely wanted played, what we liked but didn't require to be played, and what we absolutely did not want played. The music he played was exactly what we were going for, the energy level was always appropriate for what was going on, and the transitions throughout the night always felt easy - never jarring as we've experienced at other events. Mike only made the announcements we requested and was very professional. Per our request, when more than one person requested a song from our do-not-play list, he checked with us before playing it. We had multiple people request a list of the songs that were played and comment how fantastic the music was all night! With Mike, we got exactly what we were looking for - an easygoing DJ who went perfectly with the flow, understood our varied musical taste, and enhanced the experience of our wedding by being a part of the event rather than someone who was in the spotlight/running the show. JACOB WAS THE BEST! My new husband and I planned our Austin wedding from NYC. We originally wanted a wedding band but decided to go with a DJ when we realized there were too many specific songs that we wanted to play. I was initially concerned about getting a DJ because I didn't want older guests to feel like they were at a club. We chose Live Oak DJ based on positive Yelp/internet reviews. Our DJ Jacob was very friendly, professional and -most importantly- responsive to our many questions throughout the planning process. We met once during a planning trip to Austin and for a second time in the days leading up to the wedding. He was even patient when my family members joined our meeting and asked questions of their own, and he traveled all the way to Dripping Springs on a weeknight to meet us near the ceremony site. During the reception, Jacob was also fantastic. He accommodated all special requests (acknowledging military members and collaborating closely with our wedding coordinator). We were even able to use his mic for the officiant during the ceremony. Jacob was also extremely professional and mindful of our timeline but was flexible and accommodating to make changes on the fly (like when I wanted to extend the dance time 30 minutes longer than we had planned). The best part was that Jacob understood the vibe of the party and ALL of the song selections were perfect - I danced the entire time and had a ball at my wedding! My Uncle Ron, who is known for never dancing, even joined us on the dance floor for a few songs. I cannot recommend Live Oak DJ enough for your event! read more

I am so excited to write this review! We hired Ray to be the DJ for our wedding at Mercury Hall on November 29th, 2013. Ray was AMAZING!! I am super picky about music and had chosen a specific playlist and timings for the processional, the handfasting, and the recessional, as well as the dinner music, the first dances, & some of the dancing. Ray took it all in stride and executed PERFECTLY. I got so many comments about the music being awesome and the dancing never stopped the whole night! The guests had an absolute ball and I couldn't be happier with his choices of songs to keep the party going. I'm an indie, 80's, dance/techno person, but Ray also was a super great sport to coordinate with my mom secretly to pull off a Texas Country surprise where they busted out cowboy hats and country songs - SO MUCH FUN! He came early, looked great, had everything set up beautifully for the outdoor ceremony to the point that I still don't even know where the speakers were - it was like music was just playing from the heavens above. He had the sound JUST PERFECT and the mics worked really well also. Ray recommended some simple white uplighting to accent the windows at Mercury Hall and I'm so glad we said YES to that as well - it really added a lot to make the perfect ambiance. DJ Mike Marischen played our 10/5 wedding and was one of the best vendor decisions we made. The amount of prep work he put into our event was mind-boggling. We had a preliminary meeting with him before deciding to book him, followed by a long planning meeting in which we discussed playlists, musical styles, day of timeline, requests, etc. He let us make our own playlists on Spotify and send him links, and then he organized our picks by energy level and priority. Our ceremony and reception both occurred at Mercury Hall, an inside/outside venue, so Mike brought two sets of equipment, one for the outside ceremony and cocktail hour, and another for the inside dinner and reception. He brought a portable mic for our officiant and a second mic on a stand for our readers at the ceremony, as well as a portable mic for speeches during the reception. He announced dinner and dessert and other events. Basically, he kept the whole event moving without ever becoming intrusive, and he did an amazing job of choosing songs based on guests' reactions and preferences. His massive amount of prep work made our wedding day experience completely stress free, and we've had guests ask after the fact for our playlist. Add in the fact that his prices are among the most reasonable in town and that he's the nicest guy ever on a personal level, and you cannot do better than hiring Mike. read more

I recommend Live Oak and especifically DJ Ray Lopez for any young people looking to have a more upbeat dance time, yet a very professional MC. We booked DJ Ray for our Austin Wedding in Nov 2012. We were planning the whole thing from out of the country, so we had to plan most things at a distance. DJ Ray was awesome at being able to met us when we were in town as well as maintain contact via email. and the tools they have on their website allow for you to put all your info online. The day of, DJ Ray setup no problem all by himself (we had extra setup for the ceremony & reception, plus a screen for a slideshow). During the reception, DJ Ray was great at moving people around and setting the stage for whatever was going on (with help from our day-off wedding coordinators, which I recommend having one as well). The best part IMO is that DJ Ray gives the whole thing a very young vibe which gets people out dancing and keeps them in the dancefloor. I've never been at a wedding where the dance sections had to be stopped (usually people get bored and sit down on their own). Believe it or not, most wedding DJs will play the whole song out! I'm sure Ray was doing things to match our personality and can accomodate other preferrences as well. Overall, it was a great experience having him and I recommend him to everyone else! read more

DJ Jacob Noack ROCKS! Definitely one of the easiest and best choices we made during the whole wedding planning process. We hired him the same day of our first meet because we knew we could trust him to help us achieve the energy and soundtrack we envisioned for the big day. Not only is he responsive, organized and personable, but genuinely listens and cares about your requests. He even took the time to come out for a site visit when a lot of other DJ's could have just showed up the day-of and winged it. Though we were pretty selective with our song picks, Jacob did an awesome job reading the dance floor and throwing in tracks that kept the energy up and everyone dancing. It was like a live "Genius" to our song list. Beyond that, he even helped us mix our first dance song which started with a singer-songwriter tune transitioned into a two-step and then ended with Gangham style. And even though it Texas-size stormed on our (yes, outdoor) wedding day, he managed everything beautifully. One of our biggest fears other than the weather was an empty dance floor and Jacob worked his magic to keep everyone out there until the-very-end! We recently used Live Oak DJ for our wedding at Green Pastures. After doing a lot of comparisons we saw that Live Oak had great reviews and a great price. The DJ for our wedding was DJ Ray, and he was a pleasure to work with. Easy to communicate with over email, accommodating for our face to face meetings, and an excellent DJ. The Live Oak website has a feature where you can pick out songs that you definitely want to hear, or definitely do not want to hear which was great for a person who can't stand songs like Cotton Eyed Joe or the chicken dance. We met with Ray twice before the wedding and gave him some of our favorite songs and other types of music we liked. Ray helped us pick out some of the songs needed for other parts of the wedding - first dances, intro, etc. (pro-tip, pick short songs for your first dances). Other than a handful of must-play songs, we just gave Ray an idea of what music we liked and he went from there and did a great job. He started with great music that everyone could dance to and when the older people had gone home he took it up a notch. It was a fantastic wedding and Ray did an amazing job! read more

The quick responses, willingness to do a phone interview, professionalism, and thoughtfulness of Live Oak quickly grabbed our attention. We worked with DJ Mike, and he was absolutely wonderful!! He listened to what our needs and likes were, and really cared that it was perfect. He met with us twice, which was way out of his way, and he would have met with us as many times as we needed. His years of experience, and attention to detail helped him get things perfect. He arrived very early on our wedding day, set everything up beautifully, and accommodated sound for our ceremony. The reception was AWESOME! He played exactly what we were hoping, kept the flow going perfectly, made announcements, and everything just worked out way better than we ever imagined. We LOVE DJ Jacob!! We cannot say enough wonderful things about DJ Jacob and Live Oak in general. Shay was so easy to work with and helpful in coordinating the DJ, and then when it came to party time, DJ Jacob rocked it! We would highly recommend him to any- and everyone. DJ Jacob made every effort to find out exactly what music we liked, what we had envisioned for our wedding day, and what kind of music would suit our guests. He hit everything SPOT ON - we could not have asked for a better DJ! We were constantly getting compliments on how great the music was and how much fun everyone had dancing at the reception. Mike Marischen was the DJ at our wedding and he is not only the best DJ, but also an amazing creative partner, and a true asset to any wedding / party / social event. He is a consummate professional. He met with us three times before the event to get a real understanding of who we are, what type of music we like, and what type of party we were looking to have. That alone was very impressive. On the day of the wedding though, Mike showed up several hours before he was needed just to make sure everything was set up perfectly, and be there in case there was anything we needed. Most importantly though, he really knows to get the crowd amped. The wedding started at 4 PM, and he had the dance floor rocking until 1:30 AM. Friends of mine were dancing so hard they had bruised feet the next day. Plus, people kept remarking how flexible and responsive he was in regards to requests. We used David Miranda for our wedding at the Hyatt Lost Pines in March. We are not from the area, so we did the vast majority of the planning long distance. We did make one site visit 6 weeks prior to the wedding weekend, and David made an extra effort to make sure to meet up with us in person. The whole process was incredibly easy and stress-free. We used him for both the ceremony and reception...we gave him very general ideas for most of the event with a few specific song requests. He was even able to find a special version of one song we wanted to use! I could not have been more pleased with how it all came together. He was able to get the wedding started on time and keep us on our timeline for the night. He was professional and friendly throughout the whole process. The coordinator at my venue said that he made a special visit with them prior to the wedding date, which helped everything run smoothly on our wedding day. Mike was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. He was extremely flexible about meeting times and locations, and was sensitive to our competing priorities as the wedding date arrived. He had any song you can think of, and was willing to download all of our requests. We had a few unique ideas about the song list, and he was amenable to all of them. On the day itself, Mike was a rock star. He handled all of the announcements and emcee responsibilities very professionally, and came to us to make sure we were okay with any requests from guests. The dance floor was full the entire night, over-flowing at times, and Mike made sure the party kept going from start to finish. In terms of pricing, you won't find a better value. Mike took care of our cocktail hour at a reduced rate compared to the reception, and also handled our uplighting at the cheapest price we found. I was referred to Jacob at Live Oak DJ by a wedding planner and I am SO grateful! Jacob went above and beyond helping me record a special version of "Because you Loved Me" for my dance with my Father (Even meeting me on a Sunday in the middle of moving into his new home!) in order to get the song just right. He did such an amazing job editing it and my Father and I were very touched. It was truly special. He did just as wonderful of a job the night of our wedding too. He wasnt one of those DJs that thinks he is on the radio and constantly chatters on the microphone. He knew exactly when/how to move the guest from event to event & room to room to keep the flow and timing of the festivities right on track. We hired dj Bradley Payne over the phone (we live in PA and got married in Austin). I highly recommend his service and that of Live Oak DJ. Our goal for our wedding was to throw and awesome party. Brad helped us make that happen. I didn't realize how important a professional DJ could be. He got everybody dancing and incorporated so many of our favorite songs. I had several comments about how fun the wedding was and how everyone had such a good time, and I know a lot of that was because Brad kept everyone dancing. He managed to work in a lot of genres, including hip/hop, country, oldies, etc. He was very professional as well. He showed up way before I (the bride) did and had everything set up for the ceremony. He brought dance floor lights too, which I didn't think were necessary but they helped the mood. My husband and I booked DJ Ray with Live Oak DJ for our March 2014 wedding and we were very happy with his services! We met a couple of days before the wedding to finalize our music details and he was very personable and attentive to our ideas and preferences. Ok, I would give Mike 10 stars if I could!!! Or 100 stars! Five just doesn't seem like enough for the great job that Mike did. Our wedding was earlier tonight and that's how awesome he was that I wanted to make sure I wrote a review. I am a detail person and had researched lots of DJs, none of which had really convinced me that they were right. One of the DJs that I did like was booked on our date and referred us to Live Oak DJs. I am so glad he did!!!! My hubby (so cool to say that now!) and I aren't really music people and didn't really have specific songs that we wanted. Mike met with us a couple weeks before the wedding with a great questionnaire that helped us realize what we really were looking for and he then executed that to a T. Mike Marischen exceeded our expectations. Good music was second to good food on my wedding priority list. For us, a crowded dance floor is the best sign of a fun wedding and for that we needed a good DJ. We gave Mike a decent selection of songs we liked and from there he knew our taste and not only did he play our favorites but other songs we loved that we hadn't thought about and what a pleasant surprise that was for us. Our guests loved the music and danced all night. Mike is not only professional and great at what he does but he's also the sweetest sincerest person and we felt he cared as much about our wedding being perfect as we did.
